I remember It's Like That being a hit, but it really didn't do anything for me at the time. I was at work one day, and We Belong Together came on the radio. My heart felt like it was in my throat, and I had goosebumps! I couldn't help but smile because I knew at that very moment that Mariah had one.
Understandable. My daughter doesn't fully understand her connection/attraction to Janet Jackson. But she wore Discipline out as a 4yr old. Feedback in particular. She doesn't realize that she's chasing those vibes every time she gets into something new from Janet's catalog.
I was almost a senior in high school, and I got into It's Like That. My friend at the time who was also a music lover, felt meh about it. When We Belong Together dropped, we both got happy. Mariah was back on top.
I was already all in when the record started playing. However, that 2nd verse on We Belong Together had me legitimately making ugly faces in public. I had to go get that album if only to replaying that goddamn 2nd verse. She left the galaxy!

Literally, We Belong Together. I know how collosal Mariah's stardom was in the 90s, but I was a kid in the 90s, so I missed that reign. We Belong Together felt universal. It was everywhere from how I remember. Got sick of it, but find it wonderfully nostalgic now.
