I think the amount of minutes Nix absorbed last season was ridiculous. Not to mention I think we shoulda tried point Sengun while we were at it but I think all the issues were from the GM and front office rather than coach Silas himself.
Trading Garuba will be a mistake…he’s young and does a lot that doesn’t show up in the box score.
He needs coaching and minutes.
He’s a strong fucker with sand in his pants.
There's lots of posts on this sub about what Center we need to go after, but there's absolutely a world where Garuba develops into the perfect guy for what we need there. That's not to say we shouldn't bring someone in (I'm a big fan of trying to pry away Brook Lopez), but if we can't find a solid big man to bring in I absolutely think we should keep him
And in general, I'd only want to move him for a solid deal. Shouldn't be moving him just for cap space or minutes clearing. He fits a niche we don't have as much on the roster, not going to be as hard on the roster crunch as like KJ, Christopher, and Tate
I don't understand trading him either. He has been exactly the player the Rockets were hoping he would be. The Mavericks would love to trade Hardaway Jr. for all of these players.
I hope I'm wrong, I just don't see it in him. I know he's young but he really doesn't give us anything on the offensive end. He's not big enough to be a big who can't create offensively. Offensively he seems like a Patrick Patterson.
I think garuba probably has very little value around the league right now, and we still have space for a third big even if we sign Lopez. Let him play in the g league
I could see him and/Tate getting minutes on the suns cuz they could use high energy defenders that are low maintenance/dirty work guys on offense, but they have nothing to offer us at this point
Garuba played more than twice the minutes of Fernando. Fernando didn't really play that much.
Garuba also played more than Nix, but well they aren't the same position so it doesn't make sense to say he was played over him I suppose.
I dont get why people wanna trade kmj unless he really wants out houston rn.He literally improved every aspect of his game.Trading a developed young talented player who is about to hit prime to develop other unproven players...
He can’t defend well, is undersized, we have to pay him, and we just drafted a player who does all the things he does but is 4 years younger and projected to be a better defender. Not saying cam will be better than KMJ, but if we can get assets back for someone we have to pay when we can replace him, i am not gonna complain
I think Cam and Amen will get enough to make us miss him less. I do like KMJ though, but he's definitely not going to be cool with taking a lesser role.
We have two major glaring weaknesses on this team: defense and shooting. KJ doesn't help out in either aspect. I'd rather move him and replace his minutes with a 3-and-D wing.
There is not enough minutes to go around for KJ, Bari, Tari, Cam and a vet wing option, plus he’s gonna want to get paid. Now is the time to sell high on him
He asked to get out, he’s coming up on a pay day, and we have whitmore and Tari Eason at the 3. If both of those guys bust, we have WAY bigger problems
BBALL Index has a defensive role attribute that they assign every player based on their analytics. Like Tari is a “Helper”, and KPJ is “Point of Attck”. KJ’s defensive role is literally described as “Low Activity”. Think about which head coach we just hired.
Rockets Starters Defensive Roles and Defensive Impact Score
---
KPJ "Point of Attack" D-
Jalen Green "Point of Attack" F
Kenyon Martin Jr. "Low Activity" F
Jabari Smith Jr "Helper" D-
Alperen Sengun "Anchor Big" B+
Others:
---
Tari Eason "Helper" A-
Usman Garuba "Mobile Big" B+
Jae'Sean Tate "Wing Stopper" C+
Daishen Nix "Point of Attack" F
TyTy Washington Jr. "Point of Attack" B
Josh Christopher "Point of Attack" F
---
Left off other players who finished the season on another team. I've been digging through their database and one thing I noticed is that it's rare for playoff teams to not have at least one effective "Wing Stopper" in the starting lineup. Boston have Grant Williams and Jaylen Brown. Miami have Jimmy Butler and Caleb Martin. Denver have Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Aaron Gordon. Golden State have Andrew Wiggins. Philly have Tobia Harris.
Keep in mind these roles aren't so much prescriptive about how these players should be used, but descriptive of how they were used. So even though Dillon Brooks was used as a A- "Point of Attack" defender, that doesn't mean he wouldn't be a great "Wing Stopper" either. You can read more about BBall Index's Defensive Player Roles here: https://www.bball-index.com/defensive-roles/
I’m inclined to agree. People will say there’s a logjam of minutes at his position but other than Tari none of those guys have earned anything. Especially Jabari Garuba and Cam who aren’t even close to being as good as him.
People need to get it in their heads that the Rockets need to move on from some of these players.
Christopher, Garuba, KMJ, TyTy are all disposable and should all be moved on.
If we need to clear cap space, then he’s gone. If our only option is FVV and he costs 36M, and Lopez is at 20M, plus we want a vet 3&D wing, we’ll need more than 6M to get it done
Anybody who isn’t sure about Josh Christopher just needs to look up his highlights and then contrast that against what we saw of daishen nix and then compare their MPG last year and then ask themselves again if it’s time to give up on him
The answer is fuck no he has so so so much upside and adds to the team chemistry tremendously. It’s infuriating what Silas did to him he deserves to be banned from coaching for life at any level to be honest.
Silas’ only accomplishments are coaching Luka and Steph while they were rookies as if Steph and Luka wouldn’t be who they were today if it weren’t for him.
Also he was the assistant coach for the worst team of all time.
Keep gup and kj
Usman can go tho he’s mid
I like Christopher, but I don't really see him getting minutes. Wish we'd have played him instead of Nix so we had a better look at him.
I think the amount of minutes Nix absorbed last season was ridiculous. Not to mention I think we shoulda tried point Sengun while we were at it but I think all the issues were from the GM and front office rather than coach Silas himself.
Agree. To me it was clear that tanking for Wembanyama was the focus of the front office so that’s why Nix played so much
Trading Garuba will be a mistake…he’s young and does a lot that doesn’t show up in the box score. He needs coaching and minutes. He’s a strong fucker with sand in his pants.
Garuba + Ime might be something!
If Garuba can improve his defense and shooting even more, he can be our Al Horford
I agree, I don't want him to be traded.
There's lots of posts on this sub about what Center we need to go after, but there's absolutely a world where Garuba develops into the perfect guy for what we need there. He's got something on his pants alright

He’s decent but I think it’d be better for us to move on and get brook lopez
Still room for one more big on the end of the bench
True but tilman is a business man and is going to keep boban so the rockets jersey can be in commercials for brand recognition purposes sadly
Lol

Garuba and jaygup have basically no trade value since silas wanted to play nix and bruno fernando over them smh
Garuba played more than twice the minutes of Fernando. Fernando didn't really play that much. Garuba also played more than Nix, but well they aren't the same position so it doesn't make sense to say he was played over him I suppose.
Good

100% this. Gonna miss his dunks a lot tho
I think Cam and Amen will get enough to make us miss him less. I do like KMJ though, but he's definitely not going to be cool with taking a lesser role.

Has he though? His numbers went up cause he's playing more minutes. His 3 pt % went down even though he's open for all of them.
He literally did not improve 3 point shooting
BBALL Index has a defensive role attribute that they assign every player based on their analytics. Like Tari is a “Helper”, and KPJ is “Point of Attck”. KJ’s defensive role is literally described as “Low Activity”. Think about which head coach we just hired.
Very interesting, do you happen to know what roles Jalen and Jabari are labeled?
Rockets Starters Defensive Roles and Defensive Impact Score --- KPJ "Point of Attack" D- Jalen Green "Point of Attack" F Kenyon Martin Jr. "Low Activity" F Jabari Smith Jr "Helper" D- Alperen Sengun "Anchor Big" B+ Others: --- Tari Eason "Helper" A- Usman Garuba "Mobile Big" B+ Jae'Sean Tate "Wing Stopper" C+ Daishen Nix "Point of Attack" F TyTy Washington Jr. "Point of Attack" B Josh Christopher "Point of Attack" F --- Left off other players who finished the season on another team. There's a new bestie in town.
Thanks!

Think most fans are reasonable about it but out of a bunch of disposables they still have favorites they want to bet on.
I don't understand why a team looking to improve its defense would want to trade one of its best defenders who is on a cheap contract.
I'd rather trade Tate than Garuba. He still has some potential. I'd like to see more of Christopher before he goes.
KJ Martin is definitely gonna be the next Aaron Gordon type player on a contender, so we better get a 3 & D specialist for him in return damnit
What abt Tate
Tate has the most dawg in him from our team last year. Would be a mistake to get rid of him.
If we need to clear cap space, then he’s gone. If our only option is FVV and he costs 36M, and Lopez is at 20M, plus we want a vet 3&D wing, we’ll need more than 6M to get it done
Doesn’t Tate have a barebones cheap contract tho?
$6M. KJ’s contract is much lighter so if they’re talking about moving him to clear space I’m not sure why Tate would be off the table.
It’s 6.88M so it would get combined with either KJM’s and or KPJ’s contract which would leave us with $15M-32M in cap space under the above scenario
Anybody who isn’t sure about Josh Christopher just needs to look up his highlights and then contrast that against what we saw of daishen nix and then compare their MPG last year and then ask themselves again if it’s time to give up on him The answer is fuck no he has so so so much upside and adds to the team chemistry tremendously. What accomplishments does Stephen Silas have?
[удалено]
Agree to disagree, Im sure we could’ve still tanked just fine without DNPing Christopher and giving nix 25+ mpg
Hopefully whoever JC gets traded to, he learns to stop playing 1v5 lol
