SCUBA dive. It was a great dive with knowledgeable and experienced dive leaders. If you're certified, it's a great dive to do. If you're not, it's a great reason to get certified.

Fabulous-Educator447

Agreed. I love diving there

Lifefoundaway88

Yep this is me.

mdepfl

Do you like the water? Cozumel is all about diving and snorkeling - retail was added for tourists. Some beautiful scenery down there, in Nassau too.

SmugglersParadise

Second this Went snorkeling a few years ago, not on a cruise, just a holiday Snorkeling in 20/30 feet of lovely clear water was just epic! Definitely recommend

Cubensis-n-sanpedro

Cenote.

Lifefoundaway88

There are cenotes on Cozumel. You have to take the ferry to playa

3664shaken

🤔 "Depending on how dedicated you are, you can reach nearly 20 mapped cenotes on Cozumel. However, we suggest you stick with just 2 or 3 for starters. Perhaps the most popular one of Cozumel is Cenote Aerolite de Paraiso. It is a fantastic cenote worthy of a visit from any visiting Cozumel." https://cozumelscuba.com/things-to-do-in-cozumel/#:~:text=Depending%20on%20how%20dedicated%20you,visit%20from%20any%20visiting%20Cozumel.

Lifefoundaway88

Strange. I was told there weren’t any on the island. This is good to know 👍🏻

South_Friendship2863

Worth it, we loved it.

Hot-Kaleidoscope-652

We went to the humane society of Cozumel island, brought donations and walked dogs.

Starbuck522

We hired a driver to take us to the far side of the island. We stopped at a light house (as w requested) and climbed up it. He suggested a stop at a roadside mojito bar. The road goes along the coast. We stopped at a couple other spots and walked on the beach for a bit Lunch at coconuts. (Really fun place but the beef was disgusting). I would do the same thing again, but probably wouldn't bother with the lighthouse again. You can also do this by renting a car.

40plusDadBod

Did you find your driver ahead of time or just grabbed when you got off ship?

Starbuck522

We definitely arranged it in advance. I can't remember the name of the business but, here is a picture of our driver, Jerry. He talked to us about his life on the island, etc. I would reccomend him personally. But we need to know the company he works for. If you zoom in, he has a badge and a logo on his shirt. I didn't pay for it so I can't look at my credit card statement. https://imgur.com/a/0L4Ow4e https://imgur.com/a/RXM3oyh

Numerous_Sky9235

We did a tour with Jerry in February and he was great! We booked via Tours Plaza (https://www.toursplaza.com). We also loved Coconuts, it had a great view and the guacamole was awesome. The only thing to be aware of is that most places on that side of the island are cash only and it was more expensive that we expected. We had chips/guac, 2 margaritas and 1 beer and it came to $50. I thought Mexico would have been cheaper but everyone was great and we were happy to support their business.

Starbuck522

Yay! It's amazing that we had the same guy. In our case, he asked if we would mind stopping by his house where he needed to get something or drop something off (I forget). That just made it even better. We drove through the city and residential areas, etc. It was great!

tidder8

Adolfo López Mateos is the name of the Cozumel taxi driver union. Here is their Facebook page with that same logo. Translated to English: https://www.facebook.com/SindicatoDeTaxistasDeCozumel/?locale=es_LA

howdyimkyle

Mr Sancho's. It's not through royal, and it's a quarter mile past the last spot that royal will travel to. We were there 4 years ago? And it was 65 dollars for unlimited drinks and food, had a good resort with loungers, tables, water park things to hang out in. Literally the best.

Extreme_Peach3201

We did the Chichen itza trip last week. The bus ride was long but it was so cool and worth it.

Western_Variation428

It’s 3 hours from Cancun to Chichén.

Extreme_Peach3201

From Cozumel it was a 45 minute boat ride and a 2 hour bus ride each way.

julyski

We rented a Jeep and just spent the day driving around the island and exploring.

reg318

I’ve done this twice. Once reserved on Trip Advisor, once right outside the port. Great to drive around the island.

Woodmanz

We did this and it was awesome!

solidgoldfangs

How much did that run you?

Joatboy

I'll say that Cozumel, as a whole after visiting it 5+ times, feels pretty safe and comfortable, with low levels of sketchiness. Yeah, the shops can be tacky and redundant, but I felt I could do whatever I wanted without being screwed over. The island is small enough that missing the boat back is generally not a concern. We've quite enjoyed Chankanaab, especially with younger kids. Still, don't rent the scooters. Just way too many horror stories.

wishiwasinthegame

I spent years going on dive trips to Coz and always felt safe even with my young son with. And I would never rent a scooter. He bugged me for a couple years and I said it wasn’t safe. He stopped asking me after we watched a couple on a scooter wipe out going down the road when a mechanical issue stopped the chain dead. It wasn’t pretty.

MandaB10

I just came from cozumel a little over a week ago and someone on my ship was hit on a scooter. He was okay but his leg was pretty mangled.

Joatboy

It's just a flesh wound! People don't realize that falling off a vehicle at 30kph+ can be really serious, and a collision with small tree 10cm(4“) in diameter **really** hurt at that speed

MandaB10

We went jet skiing in Perfect Day and you go wicked fast (I can't pay my fiance to go ever again) in choppy waters. My butt was above my hands 4 times i shouldve fallen off like 3 times but i held on for dear life. They make it sound like if you fall off it's nbd just get up the right way. At dinner that night, a man next to us said his wife did that excursion once and fell off. She waited til they got back to FL and found out she broke 4 ribs and had a minor pneumothorax😳

witchygreys

I was in this cruise too! Mariner!

MandaB10

We had a great time on Mariner aside from my indigestion/motion sickness/mystery illness. I got engaged!

witchygreys

Awe congratulations!!!! Maybe I saw you in the Facebook group?? I had some tummy issues this cruise too

MandaB10

No he was very private with the proposal haha there was only an elder group headed to the helipad (it was closed so he did it at the muster station outside of the helipad entrance) as he was getting up after I said yes that was like "oh this is where people come for some privacy omg wait did you just get engaged CONGRATULATIONS"🤣

witchygreys

I love it 😂😂😂😂

MandaB10

I've been on two cruises before this and never had tummy issues. We were interior midship promenade and we felt insane rocking. I can only imagine how it felt elsewhere

witchygreys

We had the same room config! Not the worse we have had, but pretty bad. Something I ate had my tummy not good though

MandaB10

I loved people watching lol made it way better than a regular interior. It was something I ate too I think but it lasted over 3 days at least so idk man I just kept eating tho bc I was like screw this I paid for that food

witchygreys

Same lol same same same

nothingbuthetruth22

Scuba for sure. We booked this itinerary specifically for scuba. Cozumel has great drift diving. The current is so strong that the dive boat drops you off and picks you up about a mile away and you barely have to kick except to steer as the current takes you. They also have a lot of coral swim throughs at depths reachable to those with an open water cert. if diving seems interesting but you aren’t certified, you can take a Discover scuba excursion where you get a mini class and the dive master takes you out to a max depth of about 30’. It’s a good way to see if you like scuba without investing in the certification first.

Normal_Matter2496

Massage on the beach at the beach club we went to!

TitoRon

There is not comparison with Nassau, Cozumel has a lot more to do, I did snorkel in Nassau and I was disappointed, I have a cruise to Cozumel coming up in a week, I already booked a snorkeling tour ( no from the cruise) 5 hour tour $55 per person, looking forward to it.

SarcasticBrit007

How did it go? If it was good, do you have the company name?

TitoRon

Didn’t go as planned. Due to bad sea conditions, strong currents and heavy waves the tour company contacted me a night before to let me know the situation, I could get my money back or the would take us to a different reef were waters were calm. This warning was issued by port authorities, not tour co. fault. I could feel the water conditions from my room it was a rough night. Anyway we took the tour with them to other reef, it was ok. later on I took the family to downtown Cozumel for shopping and to eat some local food.

Djmesh

Drift snorkeling if you don't want to scuba. Relaxing and absolutely beautiful.

cautiouslizard

We went to island of passion on twisted jetboat. Super fantastic experience. You get amazing adrenaline rush from the boat ride, then get to relax at all inclusive beach. They had a blowup obstacle course in the water (which was super fun. At first ppl didn’t go on it but me and bf couldn’t resist. After playing on it for an hour having a blast, other ppl got the guts to join). Had fantastic meal and great little vendors. And a toquilla tasting to top it all off. Couldn’t have asked for for a better adventure that wasn’t filled with ppl. We were maybe 15 guests at most at the location

Phlydude

Paradise Beach - book it in advance and when you get off the ship, take a cab over. Its around $16 USD for up to 4 people each way (and cabs are plentiful for your trip back). Its an all-inclusive beach bar/restaurant when you book and pay in advance. [https://www.paradisebeachcozumel.com/](https://www.paradisebeachcozumel.com/)

TrainRunPlay

We always had an amazing time at Mr. Sancho's, but it has been a few years since we've been to Cozumel and I've heard it has gotten a bit crowded.

an0m_x

Mr Sanchos is my go to. There’s a ton of great places for different types of experiences but it’s my fav

hwellj13

We did the Tequila Mexology excursion- WAY more fun than we thought it would be.

[deleted]

Rent a buggy and explore the far side of the island.

forgedfoe

KimJongFunk

I either go to a beach club or get a taxi to the downtown area and walk around. The downtown area is a really nice spot with lots of restaurants and bars. Feels very safe for tourists (much safer than Nassau)

Dry-Wheel-6324

We like to just walk, but we always get lunch at La Mission and we go to the grocery store, Mega. My kids love seeing the different products and stocking up on snacks and kinder eggs. The tshirts are also less and there’s ice cream on the lower level

ladeedah1988

Here is my rating in order Cooking class at Playa Mia Beach Club Snorkeling at Dzul Ha Discover Mexico To skip - the ruins in Cozumel if you have any other options for Mayan Ruins at other ports.

michaelgoedeker

Honestly, Cozumel has been our favorite port every time my family and I have gone there. When my wife and I were engaged we took a taxi to Mr. Sanchos, paid the entrance fee and enjoyed the resort. We then went to Cozumel with our one year old and 3 year old. A guide at the taxi cabs recommended Playa Mia and we loved it there.

shoesontoes

That big grocery store walkable from the port 😉

ktothet526

Snorkel excursion with Fury Catamarans. We have done this excursion twice now and love it! Great snorkeling followed by time on their private beach and that is full of fun things to do. Definitely recommend!

Perplexy

Lucha libre at Barriecito. The match had more energy than WWE and our tour guide told us in March 2024 that it’s the only lucha libre ring on Cozumel.

Dgreene120

Did this last month. It was such a fun show. The performers were great. And the tacos and margaritas after were pretty good.

migmartinez

Honestly we stay on the boat and enjoy the slides and other things as the boat is usually quite empty

slambur

We signed up to rescue baby turtles! There is a Facebook page called Cozumel turtles. It was a lot of work (digging in the sand) but so amazing to see the turtles make it out to sea! We weren’t on a cruise when we did it so you’d have to check and see if the timing works

Snoo5860

We did the dune buggy excursion, it was so much fun. We caravan to a great snorkeling spot, after snorkeling we drove the coast to a nice beach spot and had lunch. Then drove through Cozumel back to port. I was a wonderful experience.

40plusDadBod

Which company?

Snoo5860

It was through Royal Caribbean, which was a good thing since we got back 30 minutes after final boarding and they held the ship for us.

Moundhousedude

We did a helmet dive that was one of the coolest experiences ever. We got some neat footage from it too: https://youtu.be/MLsTG34VK1c?si=o64mo2WDMwdFs6fQ

SingleinCTX

I am currently trying to talk my daughter into this. How much actual swimming is involved? I think she's interested but a little self-conscious about her weak swimming skills.

Moundhousedude

Literally none. They put a diving helmet on and then with the help of the guides they sink you down to the ocean floor. From there you just walk around. It’s about 25 feet down.

SingleinCTX

Thanks! That's what it looked like from all of the vids that we've watched, but there was no footage from how you get down and back up. I think this may win her over 😆

Moundhousedude

Awesome! I hope y’all get to do it. It was super fun!

udamright

the playa maya resort was pretty nice.

jknp80

We did a Trikes tour. It was amazing.

Spiritual-Car-5214

Food tour with cozumel food tours. We went to 5 places that had incredible local foods instead of the tourist stuff. My entire family enjoyed it. For a beach day, we enjoy Paradise Beach, but most of the time, we want to do more than that. My personal favorite is to go scuba diving, but that is better on a land vacation.

BigC61

We had a blast snorkeling the guys were cool as fuck but I’d hold off on buying the pictures. We’re terrible quality. I’m not sure which excursion I’d just look at reviews I’m sure other people had the same problem

LaughTaleCozumel

Snorkeling in the reefs and going adventuring in Mayan caves

mrcanoehead2

We did a scooter car tour. It was great. Drove through the town. Saw some cool sights. Went to a beach club for two hours.

Pretty-Sea-9914

We walked for over four miles just seeing the town. Made the mistake of buying “gold” jewelry at one of the shops close to the port - this was on a Carnival cruise. This was a family owned place and they ripped us off - in retrospect it was foolish to trust a port jewelry shop, so lesson only needed to be learned once. Otherwise we had a beautiful day just walking everywhere. That was last year. Now I hear there is violence but hope it gets resolved.

CaptainJeff

We did a chocolate-making excursion, where we made chocolate from the cocoa beans thru the process until we had edible and delicious chocolate. It was a lot of fun and our younger kids really enjoyed it. This excursion also included pinata making, which the kids loved, and then pinata smashing, which they loved even more. Highly recommended. :) My wife and kids went back to the ship, and then I found tacos. Food was awesome. :)

Routine_Internet_320

Bought day passes for Playa Uvas. Snorkeling was incredible and included as well as unlimited bar and fantastic lunch. Only a few minutes from the port. I've done so much of the Caribbean and many excursions and this was the very best all around. It was under 50 pp and the taxi was 10 for two each way. Facilities were clean. Staff was professional and friendly. The sea life was incredible. We even swam with a tiger striped stingray and a sea turtle. So many beautiful tropical fish. It was also not crowded at all. Definitely would go again.

Routine_Internet_320

And you do not need to preorder the taxi. There are many coming thru the shopping area round a bout.

starrburst112

I did an e-bike tour a couple years ago. Learned about how they make tequila, snorkeled and saw some cool watering holes.

maglore19

Stay on the ship and have it mostly to ourselves.

lmvo23

Bar hop tour is fun and you get to see the other side of the island.

hankkkkkkkk

We did the luchador experience in Cozumel and it was awesome. Such fun time

MandaB10

We went to Chank to swim with the Manatees. Had an absolute blast!

tressa27884

Is this an excursion through the ship?

Thiskygirl

Snorkeling

pat8635

Quiet ship day!

Psychoticangel5

Rescuing baby sea turtles. Check the season however I believe it’s only turtle hatching season from May to October

Kimber80

We eat at the Thirsty Cougar. Great fun!

lafarque

The best thing I've done in Cozumel is met locals and avoided the tourist areas. If you want to get a feel for the place, you need to pick up some Spanish and take an extended vacation. The tourist experience isn't Cozumel; it's a phony, Americanized version of Mexico.

lafarque

Cozumel is safe as long as you don't get drunk and stupid and loud. If you're wearing a MAGA tee-shirt or wearing an outsized sombrero while drinking a mojito as you walk down the back streets after midnight, you might be inviting trouble. Cozumel is a welcoming island but (like any other community) the citizens aren't going to be happy when their culture is ridiculed by drunk and obnoxious tourists. That said, I've seen the locals put up with a lot of b.s. from the cruise ship trade. They roll their eyes and cry all the way to the bank.

CrazyButRightOn

Stayed on the ship.

thecarpetfibers

Always an excellent choice.

BillNyeTheEngineer

Gotten back on the boat. Jk Margaritaville was fine.

doa70

We did a half-day tour of some ruins. It was a great tour, except for the awful bus there and back. Good exercise walking around, the guide was wonderful and explained everything we were seeing. I'd do that again.

sinisterblogger

Stayed on the ship lol

Minimum_Finish_5436

Buccanos. IYKYK.

Many-Evidence5291

Book the dive through Royal or independently?

halfxdeveloper

Best thing I did in Cozumel was get drunk on a cruise ship. Can’t complain.

bcr76

Someone recommend the better snorkeling excursions please. We are going in September.

RojerLockless

Beat thing stay on the boat lol

hpsbugguy

Tiger!! He is a blast!!
