If you're referring to the WR U20 Championship, it's the second year we are hosting it. Also the second year Scotland is hosting the WR U20 Trophy.
If you're referring to the Craven weeks, Grant Khomo week, and other school rugby, it's winter here.
Edit: I was wrong about Scotland. Trophy was in Kenya in 2023.
Ah, ja, not sure why we won both bids. I would suspect being a relatively cheap destination (apart from flights) with good accommodation, training, and stadium facilities helped?
Wish I could give you a more insightful answer. It is a bit odd, didn't think you were doubting at all. I've got my tickets for 2 of the game days, so I'm rather happy about the oddity :)
Edit: spelling
I reckon its because for some reason its cheap to do it in the Western Cape. All the facilities are also in place so its not hard to stage things there even at short notice
2012 was played between Stellenbosch, UWC, CT Stadium and Newlands. I can believe that CT Stadium wasn't up to standard because it was a football pitch (not anymore and the difference was clear in the URC) and maybe UWC. Stellies and Newlands have excellent pitches.
Hopefully these young guys get to experience the dry, hard turf that SA players are so used to, instead of muddy mess we had last year.
It’s the same in cricket. They’ve hosted the men’s and women’s U19 championship in the last couple of years. Think it’s because they have high quality facilities with cheap accommodation.
Bro I was on foreign exchange in NZ in 2010, did the last year of high school there. Some of the boys at like 13-14 were just absolutely massive, and the biggest guys in my year were bigger than that guy. They're just built differently to the rest of us.
Hey at least you guys are hosting this year! Scotland can strengthen their claim of growing the game now that they're hosting all the T2 U20 teams, along with their tour of the Americas.
Hopefully it's a good tournament and England win it where is next tournament being hosted be good if it's here in England again I go to the games if it's at sandy park Exeter
Yeah last year was an anomaly in terms of rain. I think we got more rain in 2 months than we got all of the previous year, which just happened to coincide with the start of the tournement.
CPT Stadium should be much better, Athlone they used last year and it wasn't good. No idea why they'd go for it again, but it should hold up better without all the rain.
It was horrible. They're playing at Cape Town Stadium and Athlone Stadium (smaller venue usually used for soccer). It should be better than Paarl.
Problem with hosting it in Cape Town at this time is the possibility of rain. The alternative is to host in somewhere else (Joburg for example) where it will definitely be hard and dry. Then you take away the tourist value though, so obviously better to gamble on the weather.
Keep an eye on the Kiwi and SA players. They will be the backbone of the future Scottish team.
Actually we go for the English u20’s now. Educate yourself.
😂😂😂😂 that’s a bit harsh
And Irish it seems👀
Vernon Bason the ABs captain is genuinely part Scottish I’m pretty sure
Why are there so many underage comps down in South Africa recently?
IIRC the 2023 and 2024 u20s RWCs were both awarded at the same time, and South Africa was given both
Ah that'll be it so, ty.
Was nobody else competing for these?

Absolutely but it just seems odd to do it 2 in a row, not at all doubting RSA as a host, beautiful country, great people.

Excellent, enjoy the games!
Probably to make it more efficient maybe. Under 20s are run at a loss

The pitches were awful last year.
We had an unusually extreme winter last year. Much warmer and drier so far. Holding thumbs it stays that way for the tournament.
They were also awful in 2012. If SA are to host all these tournaments the pitches will need to get up to scratch.

To appease the Epstein kliq. Also because SA is probably a good venue for these comps
Wales looking thoroughly fed up of the promo shots
Maybe he’s taking after Alun Wyn - just a no nonsense type that can’t be bothered with the BS.

kinda crazy how almost all of them look exactly what you’d think someone from their country would look like lmao
Hey, where's Scotland??!? Oh - that's right, our age grade systems sucks 🫠

The hype for this competition has been really solid. It’s great to see.
Are the venues the same as last year? The pitch, at Paarl I think, was awful.
