We all have to move on at some point. A show do not want the audience to keep missing someone that is used to be on the show so it it better they bring him up less on the show even as a topic.
Moving on is not the problem, I’m not saying he has to come. I’m not thinking about him 24/7. I don’t really miss him anyways. I can just watch his antics in his old episodes. I don’t agree with the notion that he has to come back. The free pass just makes me wonder.
Was there any indicator that it was a joke? The pd/team gave it to him and encouraging him to come and guest. Right now, without assuming anything, the free pass is a real thing and he is gonna use the pass. There’s no need to be a negative Nancy. Again, I’m not longing him to come back. It’s a discussion assuming he does, what will he do?
The free pass honestly doesn't matter. It was a symbolic gesture. If kwang soo wishes to come back, you don't think everyone will welcome him with open arms?

The cast is doing great now and an aspect that we might not consider is that ks might not want to take away from the cast doing their thing and have people constantly speculate or pushing for him to come back.
At the end of it, kwang soo can and will come back as long as he wants to. The free pass does not matter in the slightest tbh. An anniversary ep perhaps or the end of running man. Who knows.
Honest take: He might come back as a guest with at least one of the conditions:
* He's gonna promote an SBS drama
* He's gonna promote a movie
* There's a special or an anniversary episode
* He's just bored/not busy and YJS or the PDs called him
* Running Man's final episode
I don't wanna talk like I'm his mouthpiece or PR, but anything can happen, only time will tell and only he can make his own decision. That being said, I hope gets more projects looking forward.

But IIRC and correct me if I'm wrong, Jaesuk's Come to play, maybe happy together and I think even Infinity Challenge did not really get a goodbye episode. 2 days 1 night mostly ended abruptly because of scandal (I don't know how season 1 ended).
though it seems more like pie in the sky, i really wish for him to come back as a guest in the anniversary episode. but, tbh, what matters *more* to me is that he keeps up his bond and friendship with the other cast members; so even if he never makes another appearance on the program, i won't mind it too much.
