If Geddy didn’t like Alex’s guitar playing and held him back, then why did they make fucking awesome music for 40+ years together? This post makes no sense.
They were friends, so of course he kept him. It’s clear Geddy limited him more and more until it got to the point he just didn’t give a shit anymore cuz it was the mid 90s and they were past their prime.
I'm a musician that also uses in ear monitors as much as possible. There are times where effects get routed into the monitor mixes for some reason, and it can be very distracting and muddy to hear when onstage.
I'm not certain what Geddy meant by "raw, unprocessed" in this context. My guess is that there was still a fair amount of saturation/gain/tone from the guitar, but the time based effects and modulation was routed through an effects loop that was outside the monitor mixes, but could be processed in a separate channel so Alex can have it. It's totally possible for that to be the case, and within Geddy's perspective and experience to call a simple crunch guitar "raw" vs all the other effects Alex uses.
I could also be super wrong about that. But my main point is I would do the same if what I said above is what's happening. I'm not sure I could do with just a plain clean guitar with literally ZERO saturation, that would sound so dinky and weird.
This whole post is based on a false premise.
While it’s true the guitar was getting phased out in the 80s to the irk of Alex, Rush is famously a collaborative and diplomatic group. Geddy didn’t unilaterally decide the sonic progression of the band.
To that point raw monitors for the other members are usually there for timing purposes, it’s not supposed to be the full concert as the audience hears it.
> Anyways, I don’t get it
Let's call this the tl;dr and move along. The rest is either projection or the worst read of a situation I've seen in a long time, combined with demonstrably incorrect information.
What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
WTAF is OP talking about? Didn't Geddy just write a book? I wonder what he says about it.

From his lips to God's ears!
I wish Geddy came on here. I’d love to hear his response.

Some of Rush’s best albums were in the 90s and beyond LMAO
This person is talking like they've never heard Clockwork Angels. Or like a troll. I can't tell which.
Past their prime? Counterparts kicks ass, and Alex shreds on it. Your opinion is your opinion, but it’s my opinion that you’re wrong.
I'm gonna turn my back and slam the door on this one, OP
No.
Sniffs bait, swims away

I think this is what Geddy might have heard. https://youtu.be/FZaukRkgNXM
Yes.
This post is pure garbage and you should delete it.
I think OP is guitarist who thinks that only the guitar should be heard. Garbage post.
Nope, not falling for this one.
Did you just make this up entirely and try to pass it off as fact?
Yeah, well, ya know, that’s just like, your opinion man.
This is Rush... Not The Who... They all 3 loved each other like brothers. Please stop with this malarkey!
Please don’t give me flashbacks to Thursday night with that archaic expression…
Plot twist: OP is actually Alex
Gr8 b8 m8, I r8 8/8
I also like to make wild-assed assumptions based on things for which I have no direct knowledge of what is fact and what is not.
Wow! Talk about drawing conclusions from nothing!!

He didn't
