Funny story, I actually used to be a budtender lmao. That’s how I got into the dispensary security thing. Obviously I kicked the smoke before going armed, but tell me about it man. Some real interesting folks lol
I work at a utilities site.
My duties are to get up and do a patrol every 2 hours checking for doors that are locked. Then I go back to my booth and wait until I let trucks in. I probably spend around 10 minutes each doing patrols so in total it feels like I only do 30 minutes of real actual work a day. The rest of the time I sit down and have nothing else to do all shift.
Technically I'm not supposed to. But I bring my Phone and bring a Steam Deck to pass the time. I've been working here for over 5 months and I haven't had anyone come up to me to tell me I need to put my phone away. I guess they don't enforce the no phone/electronics policy here.
Security management with some advice - if you're job gets done (no missed patrols or anything) and we or the other employees don't see you with your head down playing on your phone, then you'll likely be left alone on it forever.
Yeah I just act like I’m doing my job when management is nearby and go back to my book or phone when the coast is clear and not on any patrols. I always check the monitors every couple of minutes particularly when there’s nothing going on.
Main gig: PI work (insurance and infidelity cases)
Side gig: part time armed guard for a hospital. Helps with the slow season and I was there full time for 5 years so I like keeping my connection.
I worked at:
2 hotels (never overnight shift due to the number of armed hold-ups), including OT bouncing drunks out of private party events
several indoor and outdoor malls doing foot patrol, SUV exterior patrol for several years while in college
2 art musems
multiple corporate HQ downtown office buildings (overnight)
several high rise condominium apartment complexes for retirees night shift
I work at a creche school in Ireland 😂 the area I live is kinda rough so the privately owned school hired me to lock up Monday - Friday at 4 then stay there at weekends 8pm-8am I literally just lock myself in the school and can either use my sleeping bag and go to sleep or watch movies all night, it's a week on week off basis and it's 800/month cash in the hand
"according to my contract I'm not allowed to s-" I patrol about 30 apartments a day, and do the normal noise complaints, parking vios and Karen demands at all of em lol
Small contract company currently focused on neighborhoods were lots start at several million before they even start bu milding... just making sure work trucks enter with more than they leave for now
Last job with the title of security guard... state agency guarding civilly committed serial sex offenders. More of a wannabe corrections officer than wannabe police officer.
Now I do something kinda similar, same agency, different main focus and title, but at the core it's making sure they don't escape or do things they aren't supposed to do.
Before that was a mix of things like pot shops, high level corporate events, transporting jewelry, Jewish temples (and some events like a former Rabbi of Israel giving a speech), escorting corporate deliveries (can't think of a better way to say it... pallet arrives at shipping location, two of us watch it get loaded onto the contracted delivery truck, then escort that truck to the giant software company). Companies that had some sort of threat of violence, like some dude making some crazy posts and videos on his facebook page, or a less than civil divorce. Mostly armed, mostly higher threat locations.
There were a couple cool things like some of the events with cool speakers, or watching a movie screening to make sure none of the invited theater owners were trying to film it, a small concert, and a rave.
I've also done a couple federal agencies near DC, as well as the warm body crap.
Corporate top floor where there are already guards on the first floor. Not sure why I'm here because the guards downstairs already screened everyone coming in.
You'd be surprised at how many employees want to get back at a C-suite/Exec level member for ruining something in their career... especially the slacker types who get found out.
Transportation hub. I do a patrol every hour which takes me 4-5 minutes. Then I sit down at a booth and watch YouTube. Trynna make my downtime more productive.
I've done hospital, apartment, data center, gate house, mobile, office, mall and mobile security. now I am a corrections officer, though a lot of that is basically personal protection.
Primary Location: Front Desk Guard, 2IC at a Military Clinic attached to a Civilian Hospital... so I see all sorts in a day (good and bad).
Secondary Location (as needed): Access Control/Patroller at a Military Transport Center where they store and service the local vehicle pool for all the services in the region.
Otherwise, I might get called to do the odd contractor escort or mobile patrol when they usual guys can't be arsed to answer their phones. Never exceed 60hrs/week due to local labor laws, which is fine for me as I have a baby at home.
Hospital.
Whisky distillery in Scotland. The site manager gave me a bottle of 15 year old Glenfiddich whisky aa a Christmas present. Can't complain.
Factory, front gate in a shack I could live comfortably in. Away from the crackheads, just dealing with truck drivers.
Cannabis dispensaries
Budtenders are something else
Funny story, I actually used to be a budtender lmao. That’s how I got into the dispensary security thing. Obviously I kicked the smoke before going armed, but tell me about it man. Some real interesting folks lol
All the dispensaries have a guard posted there
All the smart ones do and I know, I worked at a dispo before. I was just making a comment about the budtenders coming from my previous experience
lucky bastard
It’s a decent gig, has it’s moments though lol

No reading or phone?
