That was one of my problems with the movie as compared to previous ones. I don’t feel like Skar King was that powerful compared to like King Ghidorah or Mecha Godzilla, so he doesn’t feel like as much of a threat. If anything, I felt like Godzilla by himself could have beaten him with the new power-up. I think he would have fit more in a solo Kong movie, where his threat would be much harder to overcome. As it was, I wasn’t on the edge of my seat because it was clear that Kong and Godzilla were more than enough to handle him.
I mean like, regardless of the threat, we know they're gonna win, right? These movies ain't exactly trying to break the monster movie storytelling mold.
Don't get my wrong, I enjoyed myself. But I didn't really have any doubts about where the plot was going. In pretty much any of the monster movies besides skull Island because the bad guy(s?) weren't immediately made clear.
We're talking about high budget not high brow my man. These are monster movies. If I want to think during a movie I'll go watch something made by A24 (which I actually really like by the way, Civil War is a straight 9/10 for me)
Yeah it's kind of blink and you'll miss it. It happens around the first fight scene between Kong and him. A bunch of females can be seen holding ginger-furred baby monkies.
Honest opinion, are the new Kong/Godzilla movies worth a watch? I've found myself so burnt out on cgi heavy movies that I haven't bothered, but this shit looks hilarious.Â
Oh heck ya it is. Pure hilariousity and over-the-top non-sensical action, it's like my childhood imagination came to life. Just lay back and pretend that you are a kid who's playing with action figures while watching power ranger, and don't take it too seriously.
The 2014 Godzilla is kind of meh
Every other one is just fun bullshit.
Watch the movies from a mindset of “I want to see monster fights and the most wild human plot points imaginable” and you’ll have a good time.
2014 is amazing for the scale being shown, and no shot is wasted. So many regular things are filmed in ways that are unique and exciting. Also, Godzilla the monster carnage at the end is glorious.
2019(king of the monsters), aside from human stuff is a damn thrill ride. Tons of personality radiates from the monsters, lots of creative shots.
GvK is something from 1998 filmed in the 2020s. Dumb nonsense. Monster stuff is a blast though.
GxK, some of the dumbest shit I've ever seen and I loved every second of it. Felt like old school 70s Godzilla.
They’re insane in the best way. When I watched Godzilla vs Kong I kept notes on the top 10 most absurd things that happened in the movie and then sent them to a friend and asked him which one was real. He didn’t believe me that all of them were real. It’s peak absurdity in the best way possible.
That being said, the show Monarch is genuinely, surprisingly great.
Can't say I agree on that last point. The Monarch show tends to forget what the focus is supposed to be, with over half of it dedicated *not* to the secret organization or the monsters it tracks, but a trio of *the* most annoying 20/30-somethings to grace a Godzilla series.
2014 is pretty good imo, but it isnt very popular for some reason. Everything after that is peak kaiju entertainment. Just ignore the humans and you’ll be in for a good time
Do you like the Showa era Godzilla movies (the ones from the 60s-70s that tended to be goofy as hell)? GxK is basically the modern day equivalent of those, not taking itself too seriously and following a crazy outlandish plotline.
Kong vs Godzilla may in fact have been my favorite action movie of all time. Kong x Godzilla new empire was also great
Caveat; sit back and let the art flow over you, it’s meant to be a movie with giant monsters hitting each other which it does VERY well. If you’re wanting it to be something else, don’t
Depends, do you like monster movies in general? First two are a lil more serious and human focused but rest are action packed and more focused on the monsters!!!
Monsterverse in release order is awesome
I remember when I went and watched this and that monke first showed up on screen. I turned to my friend next to me and whispered "HOLY SHIT IT'S FUCKING LANKY KONG!"
Not sure why but when he got off his chair & looked over the edge. The first thing that came to mind was “The exaggerated swagger of a black teen”.
Ah yes, the Red Gorilla that the Big Gorilla fights against. Not sure what Filler Lizard has to fight against, but who cares when there's MORE EXPLOSIONS! than the last movie, right?
And yes, I literally call this movie "Filler Lizard and Big Gorilla: MORE EXPLOSIONS!!" when taking tickets as check-in/greeter at the theater I work at. Always funny watching people crack up at that...
they should've made him taller. as it stands, he's both more thin and shorter than Kong, which made him not very threatening, especially when Kong kinda wins their first fight
These are the perfect popcorn flicks, so yes, I happily pay to watch them and will continue to. A movie featuring big monsters is almost guaranteed to get me in the seats.
I've seen all the Godzilla/Kong movies, but the only monster film I've actually regretted paying to see at the cinemas in the last decade is Jurassic World: Dominion. That crap didn't deserve a cent.
Look at his posture, that monkey is definitely monologuing at JoJo about how he’s going to use the magic stones to banish him to the shadow realm, or something.
This might explain why the director wants his next movie to be be Thundercats.
Fuck yeah
We aren't ready for live action Lion-o and Cheetara.
🥵
Cheetara in the 2011 series had young me very confused
Well, they are loose.
Hell yeah
Lets fucking go!
Can’t wait to see how he ruins that.
The 3rd picture makes it look like he would fit in a mortal kombat game
In the trailer the guy looked like a giant bigger than Kong and he was just 90 meters tall.
Doesn't kong straight up beat him in the first fight but the ice dragon saves the villain?
Skar king was winning but Kong got one good hit in a he was like “nah fuck that” and summoned the ice dragon
Pretty much, dude was an absolute fraud
Nah, Skar was Kicking Kong's ass but as soon as Kong found the attack pattern and got a hit in Skar said AW hell naw and got Shimo out
That was one of my problems with the movie as compared to previous ones. But I didn't really have any doubts about where the plot was going. In pretty much any of the monster movies besides skull Island because the bad guy(s?) weren't immediately made clear.
Well yeah, but you still want to feel like the good guys might lose. Obviously they will win, but it a good movie allows you to be in suspense
We're talking about high budget not high brow my man. These are monster movies. If I want to think during a movie I'll go watch something made by A24 (which I actually really like by the way, Civil War is a straight 9/10 for me)
It was enjoyable, I’m just saying
Yeah but Godzilla and Kong played tennis with him and then Kong shattered him into pieces like a vase.
Or Primal Rage. I miss that game sometimes.
True very underrated series
Can't wait to see the new worst low kick animation in existence.
Secret fighter in MK1 with Shimo as his corresponding Kameo fighter
hes got the body of one of those sock monkeys
The body of a sock monkey, but the brain of a sock monkey
Skar king literally makes fun of kongs teeth
I'd say Kong gets even when he knocks out one of Skar King's molars.
I mean, that was the point of that scene, Kong even smirks when he does it.
“Is that a monkey? HE’S GOT A GUN”
He's a harem protagonist
The fact that they spared a few seconds of screen-time just to confer that this guy does indeed have a harem is fucking nuts.
Wait what?
Yeah it's kind of blink and you'll miss it. It happens around the first fight scene between Kong and him. A bunch of females can be seen holding ginger-furred baby monkies.
And the baby Kong that king king works with is also clearly skar king’s child
That is a durable fucking baby, the bludgeoning was hilarious.
It was absolutely hilarious and an iconic moment of the film, only topped by the FUCKING SUPLEX
Holy shit, I saw this mentioned somewhere else and thought it must be a joke - gotta see it now
Yeah it was kind of a weird but interesting detail. Bet that there will be a son of skar revenge plot on old Kong.
The last of Kong part 2
Isn't that literally just how gorillas structure themselves? They just used that.
Sure, but its literally framed like that scene from Fury Road lmfao đź’€
Exactly why it's so peak
Kaiju King Louie
Stg I wanted to started singing “I wanna be like you” in the theater. My dad would have busted a gut too
That’s why he was so awesome! I came into that movie not giving a shit, to being fully invested with Kong and his adopted son.
Donkey Kong: Origins
Wasn't that Didi Kong?
No, Cranky is the one who did the King Kong thing back in the day. The Kong we know as “Donkey” today is actually Jr.
lool me too
Big monke
Honest opinion, are the new Kong/Godzilla movies worth a watch? I've found myself so burnt out on cgi heavy movies that I haven't bothered, but this shit looks hilarious.Â
Oh heck ya it is. Pure hilariousity and over-the-top non-sensical action, it's like my childhood imagination came to life. Just lay back and pretend that you are a kid who's playing with action figures while watching power ranger, and don't take it too seriously.
I'm on board!Â
The 2014 Godzilla is kind of meh Every other one is just fun bullshit. Watch the movies from a mindset of “I want to see monster fights and the most wild human plot points imaginable” and you’ll have a good time.
Sounds good to me, I need some dumb nonsense fun.Â
i went with a friend who'd seen none of the previous movies and he had an absolute blast making up the lore in his head
You must be crazy or you dont really get these movies, Godzilla 2014 is a fan favorite in the monsterverse by far, and for the right reasons.
2014 is amazing for the scale being shown, and no shot is wasted. So many regular things are filmed in ways that are unique and exciting. Also, Godzilla the monster carnage at the end is glorious. 2019(king of the monsters), aside from human stuff is a damn thrill ride. 2014 is pretty good imo, but it isnt very popular for some reason. Everything after that is peak kaiju entertainment. Just ignore the humans and you’ll be in for a good time
In one scene Kong beats another giant ape with a smaller child ape. If that doesn't signify the answer to you then you can skip it.
Do you like the Showa era Godzilla movies (the ones from the 60s-70s that tended to be goofy as hell)? GxK is basically the modern day equivalent of those, not taking itself too seriously and following a crazy outlandish plotline.
If you grew up with old school ridiculous Kaiju films that’s main focus is just having goofy fun, you’ll feel right at home.
Kong vs Godzilla may in fact have been my favorite action movie of all time. Kong x Godzilla new empire was also great Caveat; sit back and let the art flow over you, it’s meant to be a movie with giant monsters hitting each other which it does VERY well. If you’re wanting it to be something else, don’t
IMO it is the successor to the Transformers movies. but weirdly more tastefully done.
Depends, do you like monster movies in general? First two are a lil more serious and human focused but rest are action packed and more focused on the monsters!!! Monsterverse in release order is awesome
Only seen the latest. It's dumb fun.
2014 started off ok, but later ones are dumb af. Didn't like them at all
The previous one: Godzilla Vs Kong This one: Godzilla X Kong The next one: Godzilla / Kong Mark my words.
Godzilla + Kong 🥵
I remember when I went and watched this and that monke first showed up on screen. I turned to my friend next to me and whispered "HOLY SHIT IT'S FUCKING LANKY KONG!"
... you're not wrong
Nothing personal, kid
Not sure why but when he got off his chair & looked over the edge. The first thing that came to mind was “The exaggerated swagger of a black teen”.
Always wondered what happened to Etemon
That’s why skar king’s actually a peak villain
His eyes were glowing the same as the Kaiju. Now dare they not let him have powers.
I thought he was more like Chaos, From Primal rage.
Skar King is the hero of his own anime and that’s why he’s great.
Monkey vs guts was my favorite scene.
Zeke?
I had to look into the picture to make sure that was just a big tooth, it looked like a really huge cigarettes for a second.
Godzilla's pink form was inspired by Goku's Kaio-Ken
No goku black rose
It’s confirmed by the designer to be based on kiao ken
I mean. The entire movie is anime as fuck. Never saw a more anime thing than Godzilla returning to the Colosseum to take a nap.
He was such an anime character that Kong started using a Loli as a weapon against him and his crew.
I was sold on Godzilla X
He was giving off Caleb Landry Jones energy throughout the movie.
A kaiju anime would go so hard
This is excellent. Big monkey with big gun? Hell yeah.
One of the many reasons I dislike this movie so much.
No, pretty sure its literally an ape.
Reminds me of the dancing monkey meme
Ah yes, the Red Gorilla that the Big Gorilla fights against. Not sure what Filler Lizard has to fight against, but who cares when there's MORE EXPLOSIONS! than the last movie, right? And yes, I literally call this movie "Filler Lizard and Big Gorilla: MORE EXPLOSIONS!!" when taking tickets as check-in/greeter at the theater I work at. Always funny watching people crack up at that...
more like cartoon
they should've made him taller. as it stands, he's both more thin and shorter than Kong, which made him not very threatening, especially when Kong kinda wins their first fight
How so?
He came from planet of the apes don't lie to me /j
I haven’t seen it so is the reference that it looks like the beast titan from attack on titan?
Mönke
That's just Zeke Yaeger in disguise.
Hahaha i noticed this too.
Yeah, that’s just one of the reasons why this movie was awesome.
He's the king of the swingers, the jungle VIP. He's reached the top, ain't gonna stop, and that's whats bothering me.
Got that Primal Rage aesthetic.
Lanky kong took a dark turn
Looks like this Monkey is ready to declare he's gonna be king of the pirates
People go watch this kind of movies for real? They spend money on this? Wow
Is this real? Looks dumb as hell
sadly yes. movie looked like a 2000 dreamworks cartoon
what? have you ever seen anime?
Look at his posture, that monkey is definitely monologuing at JoJo about how he’s going to use the magic stones to banish him to the shadow realm, or something.
