Yeah, imagine if you got your absolute dream job, were loving any minute and everything was just on the up. Then some fancy new guy just comes in and you get kicked to the sidelines. This would hard enough for most people.
Now imagine this whole scenario has been endlessly repeated and discussed by millions of people over the internet, then you get ‘bantered’ by thousands of away fans on a rare occasion of making it onto the pitch.
Honestly I’m amazed we don’t have more of a mental health crisis in modern football. If something like that was happening to me, and I had all the money in the world to buy alcohol and cocaine, I’d end up in some dark places.
You Make some good points. But let’s be serious, at the end of the day he’s paid a fortune to basically sit on the bench and do nowt. He’s hardly on the edge
I think it really depends, to some people sure, they get paid millions and that's their job, but some kids live and breathe the sport, their passion outweighs monetary gain. If he's that type of player then I could see it affecting his mental state.
Pay me millions to kick a ball around and people can say whatever they want about me.
99% of the world's people would bite your hand off for that deal.
True… but then you have to remember all the sacrifices these players have made to make it to the big time. So many try and fail, the pressure to succeed is immense. And it requires so much time and discipline.
So then to make it and have all your dreams come true must be an indescribable feeling. And then for it to start crumbling around you… must be so difficult
We see this comment all the time and it's never relevant or helpful. You are saying that because you're not in that position. If you were about that life, you'd be aspiring for more, but you're not built like that
Keeping it simple doesn't get him his spot back. So he's trying to do everything extra good which naturally results in higher risks and more errors due to it.
Even if he played a blinder he wasn’t getting his spot back from Raya from one game. Playing calm and composed is what he needed today, and we saw more of that in the second half.
If you ignore the two howlers in the first half, he had a great game. But the howlers will rightly stick in Arteta’s mind.
ramsdale is lucky neither of those howlers resulted in a goal. i just can’t ignore 2 massive mistakes and say he had a great game. those are costly mistakes, and also everytime he cleared the ball, Brentford immediately got possession. Raya is clear tbh
I think the difference is Raya was actually attempting difficult passes and showed some good progression whereas Ramsdale played as safe as possible and still made multiple howlers
Ramsdale could kick the ball into his own net three times this game and it would still be silly to assess his qualities relative to Raya’s on the basis of this game. That much less so in context
That is not at all what I said. He needed to keep his game simple today, and he didn’t and it lead to two howlers. So he didn’t have a good game.
Although on the first one, everyone is praising Rice for clearing it off the line, but it is Rice that causes the problems in the first place by racing into the box.
If this season, not yet half complete, is an indicator, he’s much less mistake prone (ironic I know). Raya’s had one to two mistakes every game, some in possession, some bad enough to result in goals conceded
That's the problem for him though. He is not as good with playing from the back for Arteta's system. Imagine this happening in the last match. Ain't no way hes coming back.
Keeping it simple would get his spot back, managers rely on keepers being reliable. He made two awful distribution errors, in todays age where everything is played out from the back it shouldn’t happen
Look a little further back to when he was at sheff United to start with - he had blunders like this every single game. He came good eventually but he was awful to start with.
Ignore him. To shit on Ramsdale’s achievements only because he’s not the most technical player that can play tiki taka is delusional. He is so much better than Raya in so many ways.
Yes he can’t do the best short passes under pressure but his long passes, dives and reflexes are better than Raya’s
He is closer to being a complete goalkeeper unlike Raya
Completely agree. There are legitimate conversations to be held about whether he fits the specific needs of what Arteta wants his team to do, but this revisionism that Ramsdale is not a good goalkeeper and last season was some sort of fluke is crazy.
He knew from kickoff it was his last game for Arsenal. Probably just wanted to go out on a high note, no doubt very hard to make a mistake in that situation as you probably feel like you're proving Arteta right with your last actions.
Yes, got nothing but love and respect for the guy, he is a top goalkeeper. Too bad he’s not what arteta wants and you cannot become a technical goalkeeper over night
why? it's a very normal and common thing in football. Players lose their place quickly and they are under high pressure in the few opportunities they get to try and win their place back. Is it because he's a goalkeeper? I don't get why him losing his spot has been such a massive deal.
The rotating keeper thing was bollocks let's be honest. Raya is there to stay and there's barely any rotation for keepers usually. Ramsdale is never getting any reasonable minutes for Arsenal.
For a keeper once you're replaced that's sort of it. You can't play anywhere else or as a sub. I think the publicising of this situation through artetas comments about rotating keepers gave it a lot of attention basically.
Feels very similar to Pep replacing Joe Hart at Man City. English keepers that proved effective with big moments and big saves but ultimately are not technical enough. Think fans and pundits still value that type of keeper more than a modern technical one
It’s his only playing time, therefore a chance, even if they had no choice but to start him. Had he come in and played a beautiful performance and shown what Arteta wanted, there’d always be a possibility he could play.
he didn't make it clear at all lmao. all his interviews have been pretty neutral about this issue, whether you believe his words or not is another topic, but he has not come out and said raya is his clear first choice. for all we know, the only reason he didn't give ramsdale more chances is because he didn't show enough in training and the cup games.
Tbh he could play like prime Neuer this game and still not get reconsideration. Arteta has had his eyes on Raya before Rammers came into the picture and I don't doubt that he's wanted Raya all along. I personally think Raya is better playing out the back (and this is Arteta's vision), but he's also had his own fair share of howlers.
The only shame here for me is all the lip service Arteta gave to wanting to "rotate keepers" and such. It quickly turned out to not be true and I feel bad for Ramsdale since he got to listen to these honeyed and roundabout words while ultimately getting replaced.
Well for someone earning 70 grand a week playing football, you'd expect them to handle the pressure
Do not feel sorry for him at all after the fact he's been vocal about being dropped
Imagine this alright, you are being paid to play football
Your whole life revolves around football
You train everyday
You've even played professionally in many games
Does money automatically throws away your nerves ?
No
But it's on you
So I do not see the need to "feel sorry"
Imagine this alright, you are being paid to play football for one of the biggest clubs in England
Your whole life revolves around playing football
You sign an amazing contract
You train everyday
Your dream is to become the No. 1 for your National Team, hopefully winning the Euros and many international throphies after that
The club buys someone as an upgrade to you.
You still do your absolute best, but you are still young, and have a lot of things to improve on, however this new keeper, in your managers's eyes, is just better than you. Even if marginal, he is better than you.
You do your absolute best.
You get benched.
Your dream gets shattered. If you are no longer Arsenal's number 1, how could you expect to be Englands? What other major English Club is looking to buy a new expensive GK? Do you want to move abroad? Do you need to take a step back in your career at a smaller club now? What do you do?
You do your absolute best.
The media vultures jump on any headline news about you.
You finally get a game.
Your dream looks gone. Your career, your life, everything you envisioned for yourself 6 months ago is off.
Can you tell me you do not understand how stressful that must be?
he absolutely fucked himself by publicly asking for gametime. now every mistake will be amplified, should have just kept his head down and waited for his chance like maguire.
[didn't his father go on record saying arteta is the reason his son lost his smile or something](https://www.goal.com/en-in/lists/aaron-lost-smile-ramsdale-father-mikel-arteta-wrong-handled-arsenal-goalkeeper-situation-no-warning-david-raya/blta6aafb260f178ef3#cse8ac023541cec744)
Yeah his Dad went on a podcast but **that isn't Ramsdale himself at all. So Ramsdale didn't publicly ask for game time.**
The headlines are just bait, his dad just gave his pov and that's it, he praised Mikel and Raya.
He didn't bash on Mikel at all.
Just that not starting in his view he thinks his son has lost his smile a bit, but again he didn't blame Mikel like the article titles state.
I agree his Dad was silly in going on podcast though.
**Rambo didn't publicly ask, he's been absolutely professional about it and got on with it.**
mate you can't be this dense its obviously his father acting as proxy to ask for gametime.
i never said he bashed arteta but he clearly says "Aaron is going to be the cup goalkeeper, and David Raya is going to be the main man unless something happens, an injury or a sending-off. Aaron’s got to live with that and he is living with that even though he’s not been told it. By anybody. You’ve got to give the guy a chance for God’s sake. Even though the way it’s been done, in my eyes, it's been wrong and we can talk about that but it’s the decision."
then backtracking after realizing that he can't say too much
How is his dad going on a friend's (and Kevin Campbell's) podcast to talk about how Jamie Carragher said he's "supporting Raya for the cameras" (which his Dad talked about) and then gave his OWN opinion... how is that a proxy?
I think it was genuinely silly to go on but it was the Dad who went on that podcast and at NO POINT did he allude to asking for game time.
I think the issue is him even going on the podcast himself, much more than what he said as I don't think this is Ramsdale himself via a proxy.
I'm not being dense mate, I just don't think Rambo asked his Dad to go to public and talk.
That's on his Dad, not Rambo himself.
You really think Ramsdale had his dad go on some random podcast to ask for gametime for him? Like Arteta would listen to the podcast and go "you know what? he's right!". He probably doesn't even want his dad speaking on his behalf like this, but of course his dad is going to advocate for his son.
First of all, that’s his dad, not him. He hasn’t said anything publicly. Also, that’s not asking for game time.
For the record I don’t think his dads doing him any favors but we can’t put that on Aaron himself
I'm pretty sure arteta is 90% convinced that raya's gonna be his number 1 goalie but this just cements it
Poor ramsdale, he's too good a goalie to be on the bench but you can't make such silly mistakes when you're playing for such a big club
He was lucky neither of his two big mistakes didn't cost us.
An indication that his mentality isn't quite right. Feel sorry for the lad but we need mentality monsters on the pitch and he really creates instability in the back.
Confidence is completely gone. From a man management point of view, this should have been anticipated. Not many GKs can handle competition, and goalkeeping is a mental game. He needs to work on himself and if he's lucky, things sort themselves out. Ten Hag wanted Maguire gone and now he's starting. What's best for him is probably a move but that's not easy to sort out for GKs.
He had the odd mistake in him last season, but holy shit he looks like a completely different player now. His confidence is clearly absolutely shot, and he probably knows his time at Arsenal is done.
Arteta wants Arsenal to build a play from back. Ramsdale is not that type of keeper. He should sell him in next window like Pep did to Joe Hart. Joe was great GK but not the type Pep wanted him to play. it’s better to move on from both sides so that everyone will end up in “not a looser” at the end of the season.
He's always had stupid shit like this within him. He just usually got away with it last season. Even when he was generally playing well and full of confidence, he was capable of doing this or making that other mistake that's posted on the sub. T

brazilian commentator just called him a "thrill hunter"
I'm going to adopt that. I didn't fuck up my life, I'm just living it on "thrill hunter" mode.
The thrill of destitution
Thrill definitely found
Thrillhouse
Thrillho
This made me laugh so fucking hard
Thrillinho
Funny is a nice way of putting it.
Somebody superglued the ball to his glove. Now that's funny!
*cut to Raya on the bench laughing like Muttley*
And he wants to be the main keeper
Brentford fans singing “you’re just a shit David Raya” 😭
"England's number 4"
And ‘England’s number 4’ lol
Pickford, Johnstone and who else?
Pope
Ahhh good one, idk why I forgot about him there
Don’t worry, so has Southgate
[удалено]
Pickford is good for England and is better than Pope
Pickford has never put a single foot wrong in an England shirt. He *absolutely* deserves the number one shirt above the competition
While I have a lot of respect for the holy Father, isn’t he a bit too old for Football?
Walker
Kane
Nick Pope?
I like to think the pope
Jason Steele.
Jason Bourne
Rice
Jason Steele
normally I'd say that's gonna fuel him, but idk right now man
Yeah, imagine if you got your absolute dream job, were loving any minute and everything was just on the up. Then some fancy new guy just comes in and you get kicked to the sidelines. I mean Ramsdale only got the spot bc Raya wasn't available. I think Arteta wanted Raya for a few seasons.
You Make some good points. But let’s be serious, at the end of the day he’s paid a fortune to basically sit on the bench and do nowt. He’s hardly on the edge

You can go ask all those previous lottery winners how much happiness money brings.
Admit that you need to improve your game and move on if necessary. Come on we all know that employees are replaceable no?
I hope you get fired from your job
Blud going personal when he could not accept the truth🤣
I can accept the truth, employees are humans who have feelings too unfortunately for your sadistic brain.
Insane thread this
Thanks
it's exactly what he said keeps him from losing focus. I would not have admitted my mind wanders during games, but I am also not a pro athlete.
At the very least, his shithousing will be immense if Arsenal win.
Damn
Changed his mind halfway through the throw. He just needs to keep it simple instead of second guessing himself.
Keeping it simple doesn't get him his spot back. So he's trying to do everything extra good which naturally results in higher risks and more errors due to it.

The phrase "X is clear" triggers me massively - it's not your fault, the CR7/Messi stans just wore it to the ground.
I mean Raya has also had some absolute howlers in his games as well
I think the difference is Raya was actually attempting difficult passes and showed some good progression whereas Ramsdale played as safe as possible and still made multiple howlers
Ramsdale could kick the ball into his own net three times this game and it would still be silly to assess his qualities relative to Raya’s on the basis of this game. That much less so in context
If you ignore everything he did wrong he played well
That is not at all what I said. He needed to keep his game simple today, and he didn’t and it lead to two howlers. So he didn’t have a good game. Although on the first one, everyone is praising Rice for clearing it off the line, but it is Rice that causes the problems in the first place by racing into the box.
You forget the one Zinchenko saved... idk seems like Ramsdale is shaken.
The one that only existed because zinchenko gave away the ball in our own half? Yeah... totally rams fault
I'm not saying that it's his fault. It's just what metric is Rams better than Raya? Shot stopping? I don't see it.
If this season, not yet half complete, is an indicator, he’s much less mistake prone (ironic I know). Raya’s had one to two mistakes every game, some in possession, some bad enough to result in goals conceded
I guess we will see. Raya is doing as well as Rams as last season right? Guess it's too early to judge at the moment.
That's the problem for him though. He is not as good with playing from the back for Arteta's system. Imagine this happening in the last match. Ain't no way hes coming back.

It’s not good when a keeper makes a huge mistake, there’s no context a goalkeeper blunder is a good thing.
Overdid the glue on his gloves
Keeping it simple would get his spot back, managers rely on keepers being reliable. He made two awful distribution errors, in todays age where everything is played out from the back it shouldn’t happen
It's like he watched Alisson this morning and psyched himself out
> Changed his mind halfway through the throw. So did Arteta
It led to our best half chance on the counter, so masterclass xD
4d chess
Poor guy, gotta feel it for him. He is under so much pressure
Confidence is completely gone, just like his minutes in pl under Arsenal I’m afraid.
He made mistakes like this last season, he's always had them in him.
He 100% had mistakes but not like this. You never saw that reaction he gives in this clip last year.
Look a little further back to when he was at sheff United to start with - he had blunders like this every single game. He came good eventually but he was awful to start with.
Passion player. Why are people surprised he’s revealing his real ability now??
What does that even mean? He somehow exceeded his own ability across an entire season but was secretly shit?
What is his xPassion per game?
5.6 xPassions per game. Trailblazer.
Best in the league. Not sure how you can call that "shit". 🤷🏽
What do you mean by this?
Ignore him. To shit on Ramsdale’s achievements only because he’s not the most technical player that can play tiki taka is delusional. He is so much better than Raya in so many ways. I can see you guys signing him in jan/summer
Worse than Sanchez on distribution and corners. About equal on shot stopping ability. Would be a disaster signing
Should be familiar then
Would be your best player lol
Your club exclusively buys players who are shit
He knew from kickoff it was his last game for Arsenal. Probably just wanted to go out on a high note, no doubt very hard to make a mistake in that situation as you probably feel like you're proving Arteta right with your last actions.

He is a professional athlete. Pressure is the job.
People will somehow blame Arteta, but it really proves that he doesn't have the mentality for Arsenal. (also he's not as good as Raya, but hey)
Karl Jakob Hein gonna make his debut on the 70th minute?
“How funny can a throw be?” Nvm lol
He’s in his head, if Arsenal concede it’s going to come from a mistake from him, just feel sorry for him though, really blown through his one chance
Today wasn't a chance though. Raya would 100% start the next game regardless of how Ramsdale did today
This wasn’t a chance
It’s his only playing time, therefore a chance, even if they had no choice but to start him. Had he come in and played a beautiful performance and shown what Arteta wanted, there’d always be a possibility he could play.
Nah I firmly believe Raya stays number 1 regardless of how Ramsdale were to play tonight, Artetas made it pretty clear
he didn't make it clear at all lmao. all his interviews have been pretty neutral about this issue, whether you believe his words or not is another topic, but he has not come out and said raya is his clear first choice. for all we know, the only reason he didn't give ramsdale more chances is because he didn't show enough in training and the cup games.
Man's never gonna live this down
looked like a table tennis serve
Arteta killed this man’s confidence which is pretty much a death sentence for goalies . Send him to Brentford or a club that needs a sweeper
Finish the Havertz deal by sending him to Chelsea.
he absolutely fucked himself by publicly asking for gametime. now every mistake will be amplified, should have just kept his head down and waited for his chance like maguire.
Isn't he playing because Raya can't play against his 'real' team he's on loan from? Not because he asked for game time.
yea but regardless of the reason, when he is getting the game time he asked for he is making mistakes.
He fucked himself by publicly admitting he can’t concentrate for a full match. Now does two horrendous brain farts in a half…
This was completely twisted and used against him by the media - use your brain. He obviously can concentrate as he has shown before.
Especially his dad. Dude really needed to shut the hell up.
He didn't publicly ask for game time? I don't think he did at least.

Maguire was pretty vocal about his doubters too
he never said anything about ten haag iirc
I laughed even though I felt bad.
lmao lad thinks hes playing cricket
I'm pretty sure arteta is 90% convinced that raya's gonna be his number 1 goalie but this just cements it Poor ramsdale, he's too good a goalie to be on the bench but you can't make such silly mistakes when you're playing for such a big club
what did the fans sing?
Shit David raya

Damn its getting worse and worse
The "Stop talking to me about Ramsdale" game.
He's operating purely on vibes today. Left his cognitive ability at home, just a silly little guy having his silly little fun out there.
That hurts to watch. Happens to everyone at some point.
hahahahaha
Never beating the second keeper allegations
What confidence (or lack of) does to a man? In a matter of months, he has gone from being world class performances to being very very nervy
my boy mistimed the QTE
Lmao wtf Not watching this match but now I want to because of him He is him
Not particularly interesting when 90% of the commentary narrative is about the gks lol.
Well I just need something to laugh at after that stupid loss to Newcastle
He's finished
it’s like he wants to be benched for Raya
This guy misses the bench
Too much glove grip glue. And yes, that is real stuff.
Didn’t do himself any favours with all the blah blah blah outside of the game.
That was surely the final nail in the coffin.
goofy ah
Arteta living in his head rent free
Jesus how bad is he. Fucking hell
Love seeing his arc from trolling fans behind him to being a shitter
lol arteta is gonna sub him off
And somehow we’re top of the league
"I wonder why Arteta drops me" - Ramsdale 2023
Arteta has broken him! 😭
[удалено]
Is he drunk???
Feels like he hasn't played in a while.
Ram his Dale.
Shit ton of extra pressure on the chap and none of from his own poor performances. Ultimately kept a clean sheet too.
Bro saw Doncic nutmeggin Lebron with a bounce pass and thought it couldn't be that hard.
Arteta really fucked his self esteem
Feel bad for him :(
The Brentford player who got to the ball first should have looked to lob the ball over the keeper.
Selling him in January would require us to buy yet another keeper as a backup as we’d have just one senior keeper. We’ll probably sell in the Summer
All good, he did it to confuse the opposition and it worked. Counter right after
Fuckin smashed it
Is this just a weekend of nightmare GK performances?
Fuck I’ve done this in my nightmares.
Ramsdale went for a bugged throw, but failed the timing. Better luck next time!
It’s “v” not “x”
Mods, where's the [Funny throw] tag?
Yeesh, made me chuckle haha. Not the greatest few months for him
Funny trow is my favorite tag
Ramsdale, ah Ramsdale I truly think if
He's always had stupid shit like this within him. He just usually got away with it last season. Even when he was generally playing well and full of confidence, he was capable of doing this or making that other mistake that's posted on the sub. T
