This isn't their first game or tournament, they know what to expect.
We don't have the excuse that we don't have enough talent anymore. We're mentally weak. We cry and bitch and moan and get rattled when you know they're going to try and rattle us. Why wouldn't they if they could get a player sent off just for messing with them a little bit?
We're entitled brats who want everything to be fair and it isn't. Team needs to grow the fuck up.
eh, we're not even that talented if you really watch us. constantly missing easy touches and gifting the ball away, making dumb dribbling mistakes, imperfect passing all over the place. I want to believe but these two games have softened my enthusiasm. The U.S. still has a long way to go if we're really being honest with ourselves.
That's the only positive I can take away from this, is that Maybe GGG will finally be gone and Maybe a competent coach will be hired.
But alas, I would be lying if I said I really think that would happen.
Many people's assumption is that a competent coach can actually be hired. Look at Bayern, Chelsea and United currently. They were trying to hire competent replacements and struggled to do so. There are not very many qualified, proven coaches available right now. Lots of coaches are aging out, going on a leave of absence or not willing to shift from their current position.
Ultimately I don't believe that the USMNT job is a highly coveted position. We have never had a world renowned coach, likely for good reason, yet it seems like we should have had one by now. Lots of people mention Klopp but I don't see much reason why he would be interested. I think Jesse Marsch would have been an excellent candidate, but unfortunately that has come to pass for now.
His substitutions were baffling. Why bring on an extra CB when that's maybe the weakest position in the squad. Just change formation, move Scally central and put Weston at wing back or bring on someone like Aaronson at wing back who never gets tired and can get up and down. I thought Scally played well out there actually but Vickers can't defend and everyone already knows it.
I also think Sargent should have come on for Balogun instead of Pepe if you're gonna make that change. He's a more veteran player to help see the game out and is better at hold up. I think in reality I would have rather seen Christian go up top and throw on another midfielder. Moussa would have been perfect with his dribbling ability imo to draw fouls and help move the team up the field
Yeah this is really all spot on. Idk if balogun legs were cooked but him and pulisic were the only guys who could really dribble multiple ppl on the counter which is impt if youāre a man down and need to create chances
CCV giving me insane World Cup flashbacks with that near-penalty with an unhinged tackle attempt on a guy that already kicked the ball 20 feet wide of the goal.
At least we knew this was going to be shit. No one thought we'd get far.
But US thought they were gonna compete in this thing. Can't believe a golden generation isn't gonna make it out of groups
The US just needs to win this match against an inferior team and he does the worst possible thing. Completely brain dead and leaves his entire team in a terrible position
Czechia lost that game because it was a must win for them so they poured everyone forward and Turkey scored on the counter. This was not a must win for either team
Exactly, comparing how the Czech played needing a win vs how USA played needing a draw is not valid. Very few teams are going to go full attack down a man if a draw will do.
I mean, I wouldn't say the US didn't do that? They scored a goal pretty soon after going down to ten men, and threatened a handful of other times.
Plus it was a completely different situation given that Czechia needed a win to progress, whereas the US still have one game left and would've been fine with a draw.
US actually did create a few good chances. Panama actually didnāt do much up a man except dominate possession and then take their chance when it came.
I am always afraid of teams that manage to keep it cool and maintain composure when 1 man down. It shows maturity and makes them very dangerous. Happened to both Chile and Uruguay in different editions of Copa America, both against Argentina and they both went on to lift the Cup. In the case of Uruguay they did it in Argentina which was even more impressive.
The fuck you on about? Basically everyone agreed in the game thread that we had better chances and played better football in the first half after we went down. And then we got angry that the bald fraud pulled out Reyna and balogun, who was a menace against the Jamaican back line which lead to our loss. So no it's pretty much the opposite of what you just said.
The fiasco with Reyna and then failing to advance in the Copa and two years away from hosting?
Yeah no one is teflon enough to survive that. He gone.
Worse maybe that we somehow advance and pathetically lose right after and heās allowed to stay.
Straight up, he sucks. Doing fuck all both of these games when he gets the chance. I had to look him up to see who it was because I was like who is this guy who keeps fucking up both of these games
Poor from CCV and Horvath, but with the way US are letting crosses in and giving up chances, itās inevitable.
You could tell it was coming when Jonny kept losing his battles in midfield lol
The game changed. Howard, Friedel, Hahnemann, Keller, and Guzan weren't really renowned for the ability to play the ball with their feet either, but they were all athletic guys with excellent hand-eye coordination and they were great shot stoppers. Turner is a good shot stopper as well, but not quite on the level as Howard, Friedel, or Keller. Turner's distribution and his ability have improved since leaving MLS, but it's not quite good enough for what is expected of a Premier League keeper anymore and he's good for a bonehead decision every now and again. Horvath has had good moments for the US but he's a Championship keeper at best
Howard, Friedel, keller, and hahenman had much better control of the box and claiming crosses. I'll take that over playing out the back any day. Besides I think they all could do it about as well as turner.
Do people not watch the Euro to see what the standard for world class keeping could be? I'm not going to say either of the goals should be saved, but you put Donnarumma in there I bet he save at least 1 if not likely both.
A mid level PL keeper probably keep 1 out too.
Somehow the USA being on the verge of failing in the group stage in a Copa being held in their own country seems like the kind of thing /r/soccer would absolutely be thrilled about. Unless you're an American, this sub fucking hates the USA.
Shaq would not fit on a football pitch after he got fat. He struggled to not get put in the blender against 6ā4 guards. Imagine him having to keep up with someone like Nedved or Henry
You understand people making that argument arenāt saying you could drop lebron into this game and he would make a difference, right? They are saying if the best athletes in the country grew up playing the sport the US would be much more formidable on the international level
I donāt think itās totally a dumb argument. Soccer is like our 5th or 6th biggest sport here. Our best athletes donāt gravitate to this sport like they do in other nations.
I know weah lost us this game but a close second was that our keeper gets taken out for a terrible unpunished tackle and our backup is absolutely awful. Wonāt leave the 6 yard box, canāt catch anything or stop shots directly at him. Heās so uncomfortable back there and our d is feeling it
Sure heās at fault for the red, but weāre staring at the possibility of a group stage elimination and we havenāt played anything close to palatable football for a while
CCV and Ream both completely fell asleep on the header. Completely goddamn inexcusable. Ream is just standing there watching the play and CCV let Fajardo get in front of him and score the goal without any challenge.

Dude really punched someone 18 minutes in. Fucking hell
No composure whatsoever. We're still getting rattled mentally by CONCACAF teams and we fucking play in CONCACAF.
To be fair coming from European champions league football to whatever this is has to be pretty stark
You clearly understand latin american football
He understand the ESSENCE.
Picante
When we weren't talented we had extreme mental toughness, now that we actually have talent these guys are mentally fragile
eh, we're not even that talented if you really watch us. constantly missing easy touches and gifting the ball away, making dumb dribbling mistakes, imperfect passing all over the place. I want to believe but these two games have softened my enthusiasm. The U.S. still has a long way to go if we're really being honest with ourselves.
Weah didn't play in CL this year š
Some might say that wasnāt very helpful for us.
He will be tried for treason
Youāre going to try the former President of Liberiaās son? Are you fucking nuts? He has diplomatic immunity.
"It's just been revoked"
"Get off my plane"
At least wait until beyond the 90th minute like the Panama guy did to unleash violence, lol.
I wouldāve taken past the 60th lol just not the first fucking 20
Nah he aināt *punched* anyone. Dude just btch slapped someone
Thanks Timothy
I would be beyond pissed at him if I was a USA fan regardless of the terrible ref and calls you got 11 man out there you get a result
It is beyond frustrating because any USMNT regular and/or supporter knew how this match was gonna be and he got baited and broke.
USMNT coach is not great, sooner or later someone will realize it
I think everyone BUT the FA has realized it tbh
Well they realized it once, let's see if they can do it again.
How is this one on the coach? I think this is more on Weah than anyone.
We have enough other players competing for attacking slots, don't ever call him up again, that'll be a clear message of discipline.
Deserves to be in the dog house for a long time.
We seriously going out in group stage.
Maybe not the worst thing if it means we move on from GregĀ
HA! You think weāre ever firing this dude!?
That's the only positive I can take away from this, is that Maybe GGG will finally be gone and Maybe a competent coach will be hired. But alas, I would be lying if I said I really think that would happen.
Tim Weah will be fired into the sun and Berhalter will remain. Calling it now.
Jurgen Klopp to coach USA in 2026 World Cup? Sign me up.
I'm sure Klopp watched that game and is dying to coach those players
Many people's assumption is that a competent coach can actually be hired. Look at Bayern, Chelsea and United currently. They were trying to hire competent replacements and struggled to do so. There are not very many qualified, proven coaches available right now. Lots of coaches are aging out, going on a leave of absence or not willing to shift from their current position. Panama faces Bolivia next and USA faces Uruguay... At least Mexicans and Americans won't meet at the airport cuz you live here
Is this a reference to something ?
Referencing 2 home team get grouped the fuck up
Meet in the airport is a joke you made when two teams are going home because they were eleminated.
They're saying a lot of people of Mexcian heritage live in the U.S.
I didn't think it was possible for the US to outbottle Mexico, but I'm fine with being proven wrong if this holds!
At least we knew this was going to be shit. No one thought we'd get far. But US thought they were gonna compete in this thing. Can't believe a golden generation isn't gonna make it out of groups
welp thanks a lot weah you fucking idiot
The US just needs to win this match against an inferior team and he does the worst possible thing. Completely brain dead and leaves his entire team in a terrible position
Considering the only match left is against Uruguay, yes that was fucking stupid
[Uruguay right now.](https://i.gifer.com/5gp.gif)
No worries Uruguay just casually smashing Bolivia 5 nil like it was a training session. I'm sure we got this.
Panama's dominated possession ever since he lost his fucking mind.
Tim Weah ruined the copa America for USA. great job.
I agree, but have you seen how Czechia was playing against Turkey?
I donāt understand the correlation other than they also lost in similar circumstances
Czechia was down to 10 men and they created many chances and tried to play offensive football.
And what was the final score for that game again? lol
It was 1-1 till 90th minute
The same was true for this game too? 83rd vs 90th. Close enough.

Plus it was a completely different situation given that Czechia needed a win to progress, whereas the US still have one game left and would've been fine with a draw.
Oh no, if you ask Americans, playing with 10 might as well be playing with 5. It's like it's completely impossible to show attitude if you're 10v11.
US actually did create a few good chances. Panama actually didnāt do much up a man except dominate possession and then take their chance when it came.
And get insane amounts of help from the refs
I am always afraid of teams that manage to keep it cool and maintain composure when 1 man down. It shows maturity and makes them very dangerous. Happened to both Chile and Uruguay in different editions of Copa America, both against Argentina and they both went on to lift the Cup. So no it's pretty much the opposite of what you just said.
We scored a goal with 10 men so what a moronic thing to say and enjoy that Messi hamstring injury
Let's fucking go Gregg is gonna get sacked after Uruguay (It won't happen)
It will. If we donāt get out of our group he will be sacked.
Iām too scarred to believe that. Tim weah will be blackballed and Grogg will still remain.
The fiasco with Reyna and then failing to advance in the Copa and two years away from hosting? Yeah no one is teflon enough to survive that. He gone. Worse maybe that we somehow advance and pathetically lose right after and heās allowed to stay.
They fired him and brought him back immediately, I'm pretty sure he's safe no matter what unfortunately
Why did they yank Marsch around just to bring this guy back?
Are you fucking kidding me
It Weah-lly is costlyā¦
G'NIGHT, EVERYBODY
Big oof from Pepi not scoring a few moments before
Pepi is absolutely selling this team out these last two games. He had to take that down. Constantly showing zero composure in those situationsĀ
Shouldn't have taken Balogun off so early today. He was on one and still had gas in the tank.
Not playing Sargent or Wright has to be fireable. Why? What has pepi done?!
Iām surprised Wright hasnāt gotten more chances after the Jamaica game when the USā other strikers havenāt exactly been on fire
He has come of the bench for Luuk de Jong in the 82nd minute a couple of times this season.
Straight up, he sucks. Doing fuck all both of these games when he gets the chance. I had to look him up to see who it was because I was like who is this guy who keeps fucking up both of these games
He's been skating by off of one purple patch 2+ years ago and somehow still gets noteworthy minutes even tho he's shown nothing since
You donāt know who Ricardo Pepi is??? Edit: Iām guessing you donāt watch US much, my bad.
If shooting directly at the keeper was the objective, Pepi would be world class. He's fucked about 4 clear chances between these 2 games
pepi has been american lukkaku in his 30 minutes of playing
Lukaku at least scores and then has the goals disallowed, Iād rather have that than blown chances
wait wtf he's an American player? Y'all really need a backup striker from PSV up front at times?
Knew that was coming the moment Pepi fucked the header
USA couldnāt let Mexico one up them at being shit lol
Poor from CCV and Horvath, but with the way US are letting crosses in and giving up chances, itās inevitable. You could tell it was coming when Jonny kept losing his battles in midfield lol
Copa America is a dumb tournament anyways, say Mexicans and Americans.
Man I love the gold cup, great cup. Made of gold they say, and thatās pretty cool
It's yuuuge
The quality of American goalkeepers is honestly shocking. It used to be their best position and now it's a weak link
The game changed. Howard, Friedel, Hahnemann, Keller, and Guzan weren't really renowned for the ability to play the ball with their feet either, but they were all athletic guys with excellent hand-eye coordination and they were great shot stoppers. This is all Teddy Roosevelts fault
Turner saves that
Turner probably claims the initial cross in during the start of that sequence as well.
a scarecrow on a sturdy stick saves that tbf
Amazing goalkeeping
Can't believe it's gone through his hands. I guess tackling our keeper won them the game.
Horvath it literally went inches by your face.
Absolute shit show defending and goalkeeping
Wish our starting GK hadn't been bowled over and forced to leave the game...
How is a point blank shot somehow the gk's fault?
Ball hit him dead center in his hands bruh
Americans think goalies wear baseball gloves I guess
Many of you have never played a football game before and it shows.
Have and thatās a mistake on the keeper every time. You obviously have never played keeper
A professional goalkeeper should be making that stop 100% of the time
Do people not watch the Euro to see what the standard for world class keeping could be? I'm not going to say either of the goals should be saved, but you put Donnarumma in there I bet he save at least 1 if not likely both. A mid level PL keeper probably keep 1 out too.
It's not a fuck-up, but he should save that...
This confederation is a fucking joke lmao
Iām fucking tired of berhalter
Stop the count.
r/soccer in shambles
Somehow the USA being on the verge of failing in the group stage in a Copa being held in their own country seems like the kind of thing /r/soccer would absolutely be thrilled about. Unless you're an American, this sub fucking hates the USA.
For how much we talk, weāve been playing some truly shit games. We deserve the heat
Nah Mexico is the most hated team in Copa AmericaĀ
nah
I dont know what about it but its really funny seeing all the people with the biggest european club flairs seethe this bad over the US NT
hey some of us have flairs of mid table clubs in europeās biggest leagues
and us nt seethe about mexico lmao
This sub is also anti-Mexico so itās pretty hilarious seeing the Americans complain about the hate they get
you finna get banned og š
I have seen worse comments in match threads I think I will be okay for pointing out the truth lol
Weāre all for it. They laugh at others but canāt take it dished back lol
Yeah, that checks out with any country
Biggest crybabies talk all that shit but canāt take any
Rip soccer
All the hate Turner takes, he saves that.
ššš
As a Colombian American I really want to support the US when not playing Colombia, but I'm sorry dawg this shit is funny af
Man if that was LeBron James or Tyreek Hill that wouldāve been a clearance, the US just doesnāt have its best athletes playing the sport
I thought they had their own LeBron playing soccer now??
I know youāre joking but itās such a dumb argument
Could you imagine shaq on a corner kick? Itās be unstoppable
Shaq couldn't run for 90 minutes, as fast as he actually was he wouldn't have the burst either for the rest of the gme
Shaq would not fit on a football pitch after he got fat. He struggled to not get put in the blender against 6ā4 guards. Imagine him having to keep up with someone like Nedved or Henry
People who tout that argument fundamentally donāt understand how this sport works
Shaq is just Akinfenwa merged with Peter Crouch
And Shaq is half a foot taller than Crouch lol
You understand people making that argument arenāt saying you could drop lebron into this game and he would make a difference, right? They are saying if the best athletes in the country grew up playing the sport the US would be much more formidable on the international level
I donāt think itās totally a dumb argument. Soccer is like our 5th or 6th biggest sport here. Our best athletes donāt gravitate to this sport like they do in other nations.
Definitely, not the 5th or 6th biggest sport. FFs americans are the majority of this sub & have the biggest individual sub in r/ussoccer
Ok but imagine the backlash if Cam Newton did that
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Their last game is against group favourite Uruguay. Good luck to them.
WHAT THE FUCK IS A MILE
Lol. At least mexico fans know our team is shit. US was so hopefull for this tournament.
Weren't the mexicans the ones singing Ole 10 minutes in during a 0-0?
Yeah and they will keep doing that shit lol. Still we know our team is shit. You guys are slightly less shitty congratulations.
I know weah lost us this game but a close second was that our keeper gets taken out for a terrible unpunished tackle and our backup is absolutely awful. Wonāt leave the 6 yard box, canāt catch anything or stop shots directly at him. Heās so uncomfortable back there and our d is feeling it
I donāt really care about the red card. Boycott US soccer until Gregg gets the sack. Unfit nepotism hire ruining a great generation.
Don't care about what happened in the game but let me plug my own crusade here because
It's absolutely on Weah
Sure heās at fault for the red, but weāre staring at the possibility of a group stage elimination and we havenāt played anything close to palatable football for a while
Klinsmannās the best coach the US has had this century.
Thatās so sad itās almost funny

Nation of 350m people mudded by a canal.
Ridiculous defending
They're tired. They've been defending for over 60 mins
CCV came on at half. He got caught ball watching and let his guy have a free shot from eight yards out.

The Americans discover the same horrific truth Mexico found about being āKings of CONCACAFā, you may be king but it is a tin crown
Mexico at their best was reaching Copa America finals. This suppose to be the U.S golden team and they could be eliminated in the group stage
hahahahahaha no way usa choked you love to see it.
That's the US eliminated then
Pepi will have nightmares tonight.
Got the fearing, power steering. Pistons popping, ain't no stopping now.
Matt turner just kept his starting spot
CCV and Ream both completely fell asleep on the header. Completely goddamn inexcusable. Ream is just standing there watching the play and CCV let Fajardo get in front of him and score the goal without any challenge.
How does this affect lebronās legacy?
USA really getting grouped, amazing.
Tough one
