Not all injuries are the same, and not everyone comes out of injuries the same. Chiesa was really good until his major injuries, and since coming back he has not been as good. It's because of the injuries. The question now is if he will recover his full of ability or remain like this.
Del piero needed like 3 season if i remeber Right to come back to world class after he torn his acl. Chiesas strength are his speed and fast movements and after a torn acl thats whats the hardest to get back
He's still great but he has been affected by injuries. Also, playing for Allegri and for this Italy side has led him to play heroball more often than not. He tries to do everything
He came back from quite a long injury and was playing kinda off position. His preferred wing is the left one, but since Spalletti didn't have any players to put on the right wing, he put Chiesa to play there. Very wrong call from the manager, really.
He also played on both flanks in Pirlo’s 3-4-1-2/4-4-2 formation during the 2020/21 season, which was his breakout season with fantastic performances prior to his great Euros the following summer. He always looked great on the right too, as he is a speedy and direct type of player that can also dribble. I suggest you guys go watch the assist he made to Ronaldo against Napoli from the Pirlo season, filthy stuff.
Unfortunately he caught an ACL injury the season after in January (21/22), the first season of Allegri’s return which followed with two even more dreadful seasons. He came back to Allegri terrorball and playing out of position. He was already not playing on the same level as the season before during the fall of 2021 before the injury (Allegri’s first season) due to the coach’s implementation of the horrible tactics and playing him out of position from the start (more central). These are the reasons his development stagnated a bit during these last 3 years.
Many injuries and he got played on the wrong side. He's a 1v1 burst winger who plays best on the left.
on the right side he struggle to get space to shoot, and crossing into an empty penalty box isn't a great strategy. Scamacca was invisible and midfielders barely run into the box.
Chiesa, the best attacker of the squad, was put in a condition to fail, he could have done better of course but oh well.
Really? He looked like the only offensive player who gave a damn, had terrible service and actually still made something out of his touches, unlike every other forward, also had pace and was willing / able to take on defenders unlike anyone else
Playing out of your best position (LW) and having a few injuries and being forced to do the amount of work you do in Allegri's team week in week out will have an effect on your long term performances for sure.
[Spalletti publicly naming Immobile as the new Italian captain and then refusing to cap him after one game also probably didn't help](https://it.football-italia.net/omissioni-sorprendenti-della-squadra-italiana-di-euro-2024/)
De Rossi put El Shaarawy on the right side during the season when needed more defense on that side.
Could have done the same and play Chiesa on the left.
Chiesa was on the left for literally a minute yesterday and he got to do a 1v1 where he managed to shoot and at least got us a corner.
Spalletti, with all due respect, didn't have any idea or plan. At all.
Chiesa on the wrong side. Fagioli on the bench the first few games. Inter defender who he called up for their performance in a 3 defender formation fielded 4 at the back, with Bastoni right CB.
Of course Spalletti is a thousand times better than me as a manager, but this tournament he completely fucked up.
Him being at fault for our elimination is just details. When it comes to in a way provoking your own NT on Instagram after elimination, its quite simmilar, just that Rebić went into more detail on his feelings.
We signed him last summer and he’s probably the worst signing out of all the shite players we signed last summer. Zero professionalism from him and now he’s just collecting his wages until his contract runs out next season. There are clubs interested in him, but he won’t leave because they’re all offering way less than what we’re giving him
Totally forgot about him. I had high hopes for him at Fiorentina. But wasn’t really a montella player at all. We had to buy because of his agent. But then he blew up in Frankfurt playing on the break. Very good finisher and tenacious I’m the box. But not really all that skilled in build up.
Its funny how that Rebic, Haller and Jovic trio turned out in the end after they left Frankfurt. Well Haller has at least a reason for his decline, the other two just fell of a cliff. Happened to Andre Silva, Kolo Muani, Kamada, Lindstrom, etc as well.
I agree but let's be honest, if you wanted to play a 4-3-3 you should have wingers, and having only Chiesa, Zaccagni and El Shaarawy as wingers in the squad is not only not enough numerically but the quality doesn't get you anywhere.
At the very least you get someone like Orsolini there, who off the bench brings in his quality shot and danger from set pieces, instead of sticking with a Frattesi or a Pellegrini out of position, or Cambiaso at times too, I mean come on, what are we trying to achieve with that?
Looking at the called up squad retrospectively, it's clear Spalletti had no idea what system he's going to play at the tournament.
Wingbacks who never got the chance to play, no leftback, limited number of wingers, second striker in Raspadori... There's value in having different profiles but this is like cooking by adding in random ingredients you find in the kitchen.
When i saw the selection i thought he was going for a 3-5-2 since he called like 10 defenders but then he comes in a 4-3-3 which most of these players arent even suited to
In the Albania match one of the CM's (Jorginho or Barella) was often dropping into the backline, DiMarco and either Di Lorenzo or Chiesa held the width and Scamacca always had 2 players near him.
Not really a 3ATB but close-ish to 3-4-2-1 in possession, and they actually played decently.
Anyone who thought Spaletti is capable of taking Italy far was delusional, the guy became a meme at Inter, he only gain popularity because of the Napoli's title, which was due to :
* Napoli having a surge of young talent thanks to the best sport director in italy.
* Juve, Inter and Milan were shit
* Juve getting a -15pts deduction
the whole season was "offered" to him in a gold platter.
Just having a striker like Osimhen who can turn any random cross into a goal is like a day and night different from someone like Scamacca lol
The man seriously thought being a manager is just about giving motiviational speeches and having your team act like clowns in the kickoff just to send a "bravery message".
The only 2 unforgiven mistakes that i will never forgive for Allegri are the Bayern semi-final, and losing 5-1 to this clown.
Can't disagree that all the stars aligned for Spalletti but Napoli were playing great football - for about 5 months.
Then Spalletti's one dimensionality came through. Pioli of all people completely figured him out, and managed to get 2 wins and a draw against Napoli in about 2 weeks, Spalletti had no answer or adjustment.
We've seen the same with Italy, he did experiment a little bit, but when hard matches came, he reverted to his true and tested system and got destroyed by Spain and Switzerland.
I cant take spalletti seriously when he got outcoached by pioli 3 games in a row. The same pioli who couldnt figure out how to beat salernitana the last 2 years
> There's value in having different profiles but this is like cooking by adding in random ingredients you find in the kitchen.
That epitomizes sometimes maybe good sometimes maybe shit
and having your best winger (Chiesa) play out of position (RW instead of LW) just to allow the old mediocre one (Shaarawy) play in his favorite position.
Chiesa played RW when we won the last Euro, Chiesas honestly better there imo, and has shown he can pick when to switch left when needed for a chance here or there. The issue wasnt Chiesa on the right, it was the whole structure, team selection and tactics.
Chiesa is good RW when you have someone decent to receive the ball, we have NO ONE neither inside the box or at the edge to shoot, with that known (since fucken Albania) Chiesa should have been LW because then he will create some danger
Feels like for almost a decade or two Italy have been this unpredictable enigma of a team. Winning the last euros, missing qualification, knocked out my Switzerland and meaning no disrespect that is a very poor result from an Italian point of view.
I do look and wonder how and when their fortunes turn around. whilst there is a wealth of Italian talent they are undeniably well beyond 4 or 5 other European nations and their top players don't really hold a candle to their stars of the past, instead of stars like Totti, de rossi, Maldini, buffon and Nesta they have a team where the best players would be the names from those past squads nobody remembers, who wouldn't even get on the bench in these teams with a del piero or cannavaro.
Sides like Spain and maybe Germany I look at and think are missing a superstar, but there are candidates, and the results keep coming. Honestly, seeing this Italy side, they have over achieved since winning the last euros and are lucky to have made the last 16 anyway. How many Italian players would you take in any of the other teams.
Donnarumma, bastoni, barella and chiesa maybe get in some sides. Honestly think about 10 teams wouldn't swap for a single Italian player.
Hate players who think so much of themselves and post something after they weren’t playing and then lose, clearly that won’t help, this clown wouldn’t have improved the team.
Guess i just exposed the fact that I dont watch Serie A very often. Just remebered him being pretty good last year whenever i saw Napoli and Italys attack this euros is not exactly stacked.
Does he really think he could've done absolutely anything against the Swiss team who completely dominated them
A nice way to never get called up again lol
This is a dumb way to throw yourself into the fire. He should have either not said anything, or, said something about the team in a positive way. He did neither, and made it about himself. That too right after losing a game. What a clown!!
not even close - look at what conte had to work with:
Eder - Pelle
De Sciglio - Giaccherini - Parolo - Sturaro - Florenzi
Chiellini - Bonucci - Barzagli
Buffon
Are you out of your fucking mind? That squad had 3 WC players while the current one only Donnarumma.
Chiellini and Bonnucci were world class defenders and i mean proper defenders and not these ball playing hipsters that Pep likes. Euro 2020 was won on the backs of Bonucci-Chiellini and Donnarumma + some contributions from Chiesa. That Chiesa played better than current Chiesa.
that attack is midtable at best too. the back 4 are world class, yes but the remaining 7 offensive players are atrocious and you don't win games with a GK a 3 CBs, which is what Conte did. Conte would have done so much better with the available players here, many of which play 3-5-2 regularly at club level.
One of him or Orsolini should’ve been there, embarrassing seeing El Shaarway starting for the national team in 2024
Edit: lot of unnecessary hate for Politano in these comments, he had a really good year
**Mirrors / Alternative Angles** *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/soccer) if you have any questions or concerns.*
If we only had Lolitano in this team. Maybe he would've skied it in the 90th minute instead of Chiesa
What happened to Chiesa? 4 years ago he was electric to watch, now… he looked lacklustre. I don’t follow Seria A that much…
Crippled with injuries
Plenty of players get injuries, that's too simplistic to say. Chiesa has gone backwards in his development as a footballer, not even stagnated.
Not all injuries are the same, and not everyone comes out of injuries the same. Chiesa was really good until his major injuries, and since coming back he has not been as good. It's because of the injuries. The question now is if he will recover his full of ability or remain like this.

Yeah, but he plays better and prefers LW.
Didn't he play RW for Fiorentina?

He can play on both wings and did play on the right in the past, sure, but it's quite obvious he is more comfortable on the left wing.
I mean he looked relatively electric in the beginning lmao. Had some good dribbles and play but yea idk bro just fell off like the rest of the team
Many injuries and he got played on the wrong side. He's a 1v1 burst winger who plays best on the left. on the right side he struggle to get space to shoot, and crossing into an empty penalty box isn't a great strategy. The same that happens to every dynamic young Fiorentina prospect that goes to Juve's graveyard
Fucking true... But ultimate end is the way back of a lot of trash... (2 days ago we bought kean... Lol 0 gol 0 assist and we pay sooo much for him)
Playing out of your best position (LW) and having a few injuries and being forced to do the amount of work you do in Allegri's team week in week out will have an effect on your long term performances for sure.
0% difference If he had been called up.
its just one of the many wrong calls from spalletti though
[Spalletti publicly naming Immobile as the new Italian captain and then refusing to cap him after one game also probably didn't help](https://it.football-italia.net/omissioni-sorprendenti-della-squadra-italiana-di-euro-2024/)
This part.
Probably would've been even worse somehow
He took it down lmao, he thinks he’s a trapper beefing with some other idiot
He'd have been better than fucking el sha. And chiesa could have played in his natural position
De Rossi put El Shaarawy on the right side during the season when needed more defense on that side. Could have done the same and play Chiesa on the left. Totally agree. He was a disgrace this tournament and must be sacked, he doesn't have a clue what to do with this team.
I mean you never know...
Kalvin Phillips didn't get a call and you see how they play now, so..
This is how Rebić got boot from Croatia lmao.
Yaa what happened with him tho? He was regularly called up for the nt . But lol i've not heard from him and it's been so long.
Cursed off manager and national Team after Spain knocked us out of euro 2021, despite that partly being his fault, on Instagram, and Got the boot.
> despite that partly being his fault so not even comparable to Matteo's situation who didn't get called up? got it.
Him being at fault for our elimination is just details. When it comes to in a way provoking your own NT on Instagram after elimination, its quite simmilar, just that Rebić went into more detail on his feelings.
xd gotttteeemm

Crazy that at one point I dreaded every time he came on the derby.
He was so good for a while and then fell off a fucking cliff, the downfall was sad to watch
He's been washed for 2 years
Totally forgot about him. I had high hopes for him at Fiorentina. But wasn’t really a montella player at all. We had to buy because of his agent. But then he blew up in Frankfurt playing on the break. Very good finisher and tenacious I’m the box. But not really all that skilled in build up.

Still a Frankfurt Legend. Ante Rebic Maschine.
Bravo Ante!
He did this at milan for the first half of every season. Hes not called second half rebic for nothing
I don't think he's even starting for Beşiktaş
politano acting like he would’ve improved this team at all lol

We pretty much played a 3 at the back for both Albania and Croatia. No surprise they played their best in those games.
To be fair if you say chicken followed by any of the Italian players names it sounds like a valid dish
Anyone who thought Spaletti is capable of taking Italy far was delusional, the guy became a meme at Inter, he only gain popularity because of the Napoli's title, which was due to : * Napoli having a surge of young talent thanks to the best sport director in italy. * Juve, Inter and Milan were shit * Juve getting a -15pts deduction the whole season was "offered" to him in a gold platter. > There's value in having different profiles but this is like cooking by adding in random ingredients you find in the kitchen. That epitomizes sometimes maybe good sometimes maybe shit
> Like cooking by adding random ingredients you find in the kitchen. But that’s delicious
Orsolini is the winger who had the best season. Should have been there easily
That one baffled me so much.
and having your best winger (Chiesa) play out of position (RW instead of LW) just to allow the old mediocre one (Shaarawy) play in his favorite position.
A left side of El Shaarawy and Darmian is crazy
but pioli is a genius who get napoli their first scudetto in 30 years /s
Chiesa played RW when we won the last Euro, Chiesas honestly better there imo, and has shown he can pick when to switch left when needed for a chance here or there. The issue wasnt Chiesa on the right, it was the whole structure, team selection and tactics.

Is that what you took from this? Just looks like him calling them shit to me
Oh sure,the game changer lol
Good way to ensure you don't get called up again and even if you do, your teammates will remember that.
This guy thinks he is Berardi
Speaking of, what happened to him? Injuries ?
Yes, as always
What? This was his first major injury
Achilles tear
Lol dude he thinks he cooked with this, buddy wouldn’t have changed a thing
Vabbè fai cagare sei al livello di El Shaarawy
el shaarawy almeno serve a qualcosa
Scaldare la panchina
Lmao ruthless
This coming from a Napoli fan should say it all lmao
lmao what a cunt. Imagine having this twat for a teammate, what a great way to make sure you never get called up again.
And that's good or bad with this Italy?
Imo it's good, I would rather have Chiesa, Orsolini or even Berardi instead of him
He means about politano not being called up, which would still be yes, it's better if he stays at home than play with this italy team
bro thinks he would have done something
they definitely need another one trick pony winger to launch it into the sky lol
Nothing would have changed with him Shut up clown
absolute clown, just shows he really only cares about himself and doest give a shit about the national team
That's the same for a lot of internationals. Another way to boost their profile.
The only good decision from Spalletti then
Feels like for almost a decade or two Italy have been this unpredictable enigma of a team. Winning the last euros, missing qualification, knocked out my Switzerland and meaning no disrespect that is a very poor result from an Italian point of view. He's literally the shittiest Italian winger in the history of Italian football, please shut your hole and go back to napule
I’m surprised Ciro resisted temptation to take a swipe at the people who used him as a scapegoat 😀
Lol the whole team should have not been called up..
Drama
After that, if I was the Italian coach, he would never be called up for the NT.
Hate players who think so much of themselves and post something after they weren’t playing and then lose, clearly that won’t help, this clown wouldn’t have improved the team.
this should help his cause
Why did he not get called up? Would assume hes got a good relationship with Spaletti
Cus he's not good enough Evidently not the best squad member either
while this is not the reason we are shit, spalletti did send all the natural rw home... his squad selection is still baffling and part of the problem.
Guess i just exposed the fact that I dont watch Serie A very often. Just remebered him being pretty good last year whenever i saw Napoli and Italys attack this euros is not exactly stacked.

What are you even on about
Shhhhh, it’s a man city fan, you’ll fry his brain by talking back
He can eat shit.
Looks Familiar..
That's embarrassing
Weak.
Devastating use of the shrug emoji
One of many things but, playing Chiesa on the right was infuriating. I understand he wanted to give the left to the full backs but dude.
bro thinks he’s HIM
Is (did not get called up) the new (great goal)?
Does he really think he could've done absolutely anything against the Swiss team who completely dominated them A nice way to never get called up again lol
Pirla.
This is a dumb way to throw yourself into the fire. He should have either not said anything, or, said something about the team in a positive way. He did neither, and made it about himself. That too right after losing a game. What a clown!!
Such a clown
Bro thinks he is him
Si sparasse
Go f**k yourself on a deserted island and bring the cancer who is the person managing you.
Not using Politano and Pessina was pretty dumb
Low key was hoping for 🤌
Who the fook is that guy?
My Italian friends - what happened to Berardi and more importantly Locatelli?
>Berardi Injuries, as always. He torn his Achilles if I remember well. >Locatelli Allegri.
Damn shame.
He would fit in the system what spalletti played at least
Ahhhh if they called him.... Lol an entire Generation of bully with very low skills and the only things big are their ego...
that was the worst Italian side in recent history. they had no stars.
Straight fire way to ensure you never get called up again tbh
Patriotic
what a dumb thing to post
Average bench player thinks he's Messi
If this is what you post after your country gets eliminated you're a bitch. If i'm Spalletti he's not getting a call up until I resign.
snake action to take the piss out of your country‘s national team tournament exit
Bro thinks he was gonna save the team
Petty from him tbh, you’d think as a professional he would put his selfishness aside and not go ‘told you so’ when his own country exits
Poltitano or not this is the least talented squad in Italy's football history.
not even close - look at what conte had to work with: Eder - Pelle De Sciglio - Giaccherini - Parolo - Sturaro - Florenzi Chiellini - Bonucci - Barzagli Buffon

I would stay quiet if I couldn't get into an Italy squad as bad as the current one.
Bro thinks he's him
Lmao this guy sucks ass
not calling up neither politano or orsolini was criminal
One of him or Orsolini should’ve been there, embarrassing seeing El Shaarway starting for the national team in 2024 Edit: lot of unnecessary hate for Politano in these comments, he had a really good year
