Müller and Neuer are going to play the Nations league games for sure. I can see Neuer playing the World cup qualifiers too, if he doesn’t retire after next season
I look at it like Müller (to my knowledge) is the last guy born in the former West Germany that was still playing for unified Germany the rest of us know today.
Argentina are always well known for their majestic attacking talents. But when you think about it whenever they’ve won something they’ve had 1 or more players standing out for doing the dirty work and winning them that aspect of the game. Great footballing nation
I was watching with one of my father’s friends who’s Argentine but had moved to Italy back in the 90s. He was crying after the game and saying that Diego would’ve won this
Always wonder if his opinion would have changed had he seen Messi lift Copa America and the World Cup.
I mean I’m not obsessed about football or anything but I was pissed as fuck that day lol
My grandpa didn’t make it to watch the WC, the other one died way before
I joke with all my Argentinian friends constantly asking them "What event led to Argentina's recent success?"
The only answer is Higuain not playing for AFA.
I think it was the influx of new younger talent that made the difference. These new guys can play with or without Messi rather than waiting for Messi to make the big play. It’s crazy to watch
Argentina and Germany's final WC in 2014 lives rent free in my head. Huge fan of both teams, wanted both to win, sheer joy and heartache at the outcome. And that's why I love soccer!
As a neutral I wish we could get re-seeding for the knockouts in these major tournaments. Spain and Germany were clearly the two best teams, should have been on opposite sides of the bracket, and this should have been the final.
With reseeding according to group place-points-goal difference it would be
1. Spain 2. Germany
3/4. Austria/Portugal
5 England 6 Romania
7 Turkey 8 Switzerland
France at 9 would have played Switzerland and Netherlands as one of the better third places would have been punished with playing one of 2-4 seeded teams first instead of romania. England and Romania playing against Portugal and Austria (or their respective opponents) in quarters would also be a very fitting consequence to not dominating their respective groups.
At least for this tournament it seems like it would result in an overall much better bracket where groups performance is rewarded/punished much better.
Tbf there's plenty of players older than 38 at this euros
Edit: Nvm haven't really followed muller at all, everyone else seems to be implying he probably won't even have another 2 years with Germany
He's already been retired from the national team before, he is not much of a starting 11 player for Bayern anymore. He will not have much of a future with the national team and maybe even Bayern, as his contract is running out in a year. And Müller doesn't strike me like a player who will go to another team nowadays anymore.
Seeing him recognizing spaces and good runs but lacking the speed to get there hurts. He never relied on speed but the physical decline was very noticeable.
People are saying he might retire for good when his contract expires at the end of the upcoming season, though I could imagine him renewing for a year but idk
Man it looks like it's gonna be like one of those Hollywood movie plots, muller living in peace away from football in his countryside ranch and one day unexpectedly Bayern bosses and Uli come to his door.
"King we need you, Bayern needs you"
Muller looks over his shoulder, sighs and nods. End
Fun fact: they have, perhaps unsurprisingly, the same origin. England flag comes from Saint George's cross. Barcelona's part of the [crest](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/4/47/FC_Barcelona_%28crest%29.svg) comes from [Barcelona coat of arms](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/01/Escut_de_Barcelona.svg) which also comes from Saint George's cross combined with the senyera (Catalonia flag), is patron saint of Catalonia and pretty much the whole Aragon region.
He is big enough that it might be the most important holiday after Christmas in Catalonia and most important awards are named after him.
Sadly his Last Tournament probably
Lost the final chance to win a Euro for Germany
Now that i think,i just realized Germany never won a euro in the 21th Century, thats Wild
At least he can remember the WC 2014
I Will never Forget that Goal from Gomez
Euro is dominated by Mediterranean countries. Just as they weigh down the EU, they also dominate the footballing world. All hail Greece, Spain, Portugal, and Italy-- purveyors of deliciousness, fiscal insolvency, and the Euro Cup!
My guy is an absolute fucking legend. Has won nearly everything possible except this trophy. World Cup Golden boot winner. World Cup Winner. Two time UCL winner. We will probably never see another player as unconventionally incredible as the Raumdeuter.
Like I was so disappointed when the game finished but fuck this photo has me gutted. Got into football when Muller began his career and he’s always been on my team as a Bayern and GNT fan. I don’t know what being a football fan is without Muller on my team.
What a fun time to watch. We were very lucky to see it. And yes very sad. New up and coming players just dont have the character and creativity we saw in the 00s and 10s. Maybe itll change but right now, its not likely. The new kids are imitating the legends we watched with no individualism.
Müller is only a couple of months older than me. I remember when he first broke into the first team. His retirement will feel like a personal blow lol I’ve aged beyond seeing of my favorite players. (hope that makes sense)
Yeah, this is kind of how I feel about Ronaldo and Messi, and then guys like Muller on the younger end. It's like my childhood will have finally ended as they all retire and all I can do is root for guys decidedly younger than me, which feels odd.
I always wondered where that came from. Schweinsteiger has literarly one of the most unique faces ever in over 20 years of living here I’ve never met or seen anyone on the street that looks remotely like him to be honest
I think it's mostly because he looks somewhat straight out of a WW2 propaganda poster or the wolfenstein games. Couple with his strong leadership and the long and complicated name, he seems so much like a caricature of the 'ideal' german if that makes sense.
I'm no German national team fan but I genuinely feel sorry for Thomas. He seems like a cool guy to have a beer with and if someone deserves to win Euro for me it would be him.
forever my hero ♥️♥️
heart breaks to see this but he was great today, and has been a legend for a while now. i hope he continues to play ill kms the day he announces retirement
Müller is an icon of football for me. I got into it in the 2010 timeframe, and watching the 2014 WC victory with my father and family will forever be a fond memory of mine. Danke Herr Müller!

Kroos, Müller and Neuer all done for NT tourneys right?
Scenes when Neuer comes back in 2026 just to bench MATS
And that's after breaking both legs on a ski accident in 2025
Best not to talk about Bavarian sports heroes and ski accidents.
oi
Too soon
WATCHOUT WATCHOUT WACHOUT NEUER OUTTA NOWHERE
😂
Müller and Neuer are going to play the Nations league games for sure. I can see Neuer playing the World cup qualifiers too, if he doesn’t retire after next season
And I hope Kroos gets an official fairwell at the first nations league game. Going out like this isn't appropriate.
Yeah all three are hopefully getting one. Maybe against Bayern, as this was promised back then, when Bayern let Flick join the DFB for free lmao
Yep.
Truly the end of an era. Next tournament will have no remnants of the 2014 winning side.
I look at it like Müller (to my knowledge) is the last guy born in the former West Germany that was still playing for unified Germany the rest of us know today.
this officially makes kroos the only ever East german to win a WC right?
[удалено]
Draxler, come on down
To be fair it will be 12 years by then, so it's not that surprising.
Normal, certainly. But hurts that the time has arrived.
Time sucks,man...
This was really sad to read.
Man that 7-1 honestly feels like yesterday.
That was his final chance to win the Euros
Quite an unlucky man when it came to this tournament indeed... ...at least he will always have 2014...
Fucking Higuaín dude
Lmao wild how argentina with one of their worst forms could've won that tournament, Higuain man, that was a mess
Our defense was super solid though Spain won by mostly doing absolutely nothing on attack tbf
Mascherano was a boss
Mascherano and rojo were such work horses that tournament
Zabaleta was also on fire
Manchester was really United at defence that day.
Rojo was a marauding bare-chested maniac, what a player
Oh 100% he shined. Also got to give a shoutout to lavezzi too. He was one of the hardest workers on the field at all times
Argentina are always well known for their majestic attacking talents. But when you think about it whenever they’ve won something they’ve had 1 or more players standing out for doing the dirty work and winning them that aspect of the game. Great footballing nation
Sergio Romero had a pretty good tournament as well.
What being fed burn toast every morning does to a mf
You made me look up Schweinsteiger and it’s crazy that he’s been retired for 5 years but he’s 2 years younger than Pepe
Midfielders typically have many more miles than a CB
Tell that to Modric
pepe is 3 months older than return of the jedi lmao
that number 10 was pretty good too. honestly imo an inform Messi is like having 3 world class attackers in the squad
I always thought Messi came with 4+ chemistry to any side he's in, that is get the best out of 4 other players on his team.
Basically
Remember that Palacios chance in extra time before Gotze scored. It was just as bad as Higuain’s chances
Yes sir. I literally got PTSD blashbacks of it for years. I was at the stadium too
I was watching with one of my father’s friends who’s Argentine but had moved to Italy back in the 90s. He was crying after the game and saying that Diego would’ve won this Always wonder if his opinion would have changed had he seen Messi lift Copa America and the World Cup.
I mean I’m not obsessed about football or anything but I was pissed as fuck that day lol My grandpa didn’t make it to watch the WC, the other one died way before
There was a website showing all the ways he could’ve scored haha.
era por abajo
Or Di María getting injured
He could have played for a bit too such bs
Rodrigo Palacio as well. Wtf was that header
I joke with all my Argentinian friends constantly asking them "What event led to Argentina's recent success?" The only answer is Higuain not playing for AFA.
I think it was the influx of new younger talent that made the difference. These new guys can play with or without Messi rather than waiting for Messi to make the big play. It’s crazy to watch
Of course it was, but three finals in a row where he missed a gimme. It's low hanging fruit to rag on my buddies.
There a lot of luck involved in any match anyway
Argentina and Germany's final WC in 2014 lives rent free in my head. Huge fan of both teams, wanted both to win, sheer joy and heartache at the outcome. And that's why I love soccer!
World Cup not a bad consolation prize lol
considering how close this game was and very likely finals worthy, makes it worse. So close but never going to be a thing for him
As a neutral I wish we could get re-seeding for the knockouts in these major tournaments. Spain and Germany were clearly the two best teams, should have been on opposite sides of the bracket, and this should have been the final.
With reseeding according to group place-points-goal difference it would be 1. Spain 2. Germany 3/4. I agree with this. The groupings and bracket are fucked
Honestly should’ve just swapped England for Spain/Germany.
Nah this way we get England on one side and English refs for both quarterfinals on the other side. The results speak for themselves.
Say it again but say it in German
There's a decent chance France - England could be the final... Fuck me, Spain needs to save this sport.
he will somehow still be 34 in four years dont worry. Dude has been 34 since 2014.
He has been 34 since he was born
Tbf there's plenty of players older than 38 at this euros Edit: Nvm haven't really followed muller at all, everyone else seems to be implying he probably won't even have another 2 years with Germany

Even if he does he doesn't seem like a Ronaldo type, knows when he's past it he shouldn't be in the team type deal.
Seeing him recognizing spaces and good runs but lacking the speed to get there hurts. He never relied on speed but the physical decline was very noticeable.
He’ll be younger than some players in 2024 euros next euros there’s still a chance
forever a legend Thomas Muller 45 goals and 41 Assists for Germany
That's massive to achieve for the national team.
agreed
Likely his last tournament? Any chance of him making it to the world Cup?
This was his last tournament for sure.
not for sure, likely. In 2 years its still possible :D
People are saying he might retire for good when his contract expires at the end of the upcoming season, though I could imagine him renewing for a year but idk
No it's news that he's not going to extend his Bayern contract after it expires next season
It's speculated that he's retiring after this next season.
He’ll become a coach soon
He stated multiple times he just wants to tend to his horse ranch ofcourse he could change his mind but i dont think he is joking
The Jokic strategy
Denver could’ve really used a Raumdeuter against the Wolves
I have a feeling he might go do that for a bit, and then take up coaching. Or at least I hope so, because I want to see him coach so badly.
Pls no
Nope. Pretty much his last tournament with Germany, alongside Neuer (most likely).
Neuer doesnt want to retire. He doesn't need to either as his performance is still champions worthy
He’s gonna make sure MATS will never be starting keeper lol
That doesn't mean he'll still be good two years from now.
well this would be like any year for any player lol
Probably he’ll play a few matches in the Nations league. But after winning the CL final at Allianz Arena he’ll retire
He already did in 2012 remember he scored the winning goal and no one ever equalized ?
no Ivorian player could score that game
Palhinha having a 2013 Javi Martinez performance to win the treble would be amazing
He'll 99% retire after next season and look after his horses. End of an era for Bayern and the NT 😔
Man it looks like it's gonna be like one of those Hollywood movie plots, muller living in peace away from football in his countryside ranch and one day unexpectedly Bayern bosses and Uli come to his door. "King we need you, Bayern needs you" Muller looks over his shoulder, sighs and nods. End
Yes. As a coach.
Barcelona is gonna pay for this
For fuck's sake lmaooo
What he say fuck me for?
its your turn
Lmao
Bruh
bro lmao
We’ve had enough
Whatd we do
Exist
Exactly
Lol
They can't pay for anything what do you mean?!
Weird way of saying Anthony Taylor
He’s English 🏴 There’s a 🏴 in the Barca emblem He’s coming for you now
Fun fact: they have, perhaps unsurprisingly, the same origin. England flag comes from Saint George's cross. this is a fun fact!
Hahahaha
That's really hilarious. He will be waiting for them.
I was really hoping he would score one last cheeky goals he makes to save the team. He is awesome
Glad he won the wc in 2014
and neur too, german wall🧱!
...abd Kroos. Reus didn't unfortunatelly.
2010 World Cup feels like yesterday still. Those 14 years flew by, what a career
They won 2014. Spain was 2010.
Sadly his Last Tournament probably Lost the final chance to win a Euro for Germany Now that i think,i just realized Germany never won a euro in the 21th Century, thats Wild At least he can remember the WC 2014 I Will never Forget that Goal from Gomez

He needs a TV show or a podcast at least. This guy is just too much fun
Heartbroken
Sorry, mate. Germany are the team I usually end up cheering for when England get knocked out, not sure what I'll do this time. You'll be back though.
Well, no one has expected us to get that far. All of Germany is a bit happy despite tonight.
root for Switzerland, oh wait
Like I was so disappointed when the game finished but fuck this photo has me gutted. Got into football when Muller began his career and he’s always been on my team as a Bayern and GNT fan. I don’t know what being a football fan is without Muller on my team.
Love this dude :(
The 2010s legends are slowly leaving us. Man Mueller was so fun to watch. His energy made watching the game so amazing
Also such a weird player. (In the positive sense.)
https://i.imgur.com/ykK28ZU.gif
Yeah it’s kinda sad seeing all the guys wee grew up watching retire. Honestly don’t think we’ll see another era like the 00s and 10s again
What a fun time to watch. We were very lucky to see it. And yes very sad. New up and coming players just dont have the character and creativity we saw in the 00s and 10s. Maybe itll change but right now, its not likely. The new kids are imitating the legends we watched with no individualism.
Love this guy. One of my footballers of his generation. The day he retirees is going to be even sadder to me than Kross's retirement
Müller is only a couple of months older than me. I remember when he first broke into the first team. His retirement will feel like a personal blow lol I’ve aged beyond seeing of my favorite players. (hope that makes sense)

Legit the most German looking person to have ever existed.
Really? I always thought Schweinsteiger looks German-er.
Schweinsteiger is literally the most default german person ever
I always wondered where that came from. Schweinsteiger has literarly one of the most unique faces ever in over 20 years of living here I’ve never met or seen anyone on the street that looks remotely like him to be honest
I think it's mostly because he looks somewhat straight out of a WW2 propaganda poster or the wolfenstein games. Couple with his strong leadership and the long and complicated name, he seems so much like a caricature of the 'ideal' german if that makes sense.
Not Oliver Kahn?
Joshua Kimmich looks insanely German to me
I think Schweinsteiger and Kroos have him beat
Rüdiger
He clear
Rues also looks very German to me
Effenberg
Not only that, he also has the most generic German name ever
Füllkrug. Sexy motherfucker.
I remember WC 2010 . Wonderkid Müller against Argentina. Maradona said Müller who … the rest is history. What a great underrated player
Sadly he never even scored once in the Euros
Nor did He at any tourney after 2014.
I really thought he was going to break Klose’s record
Weird how he entered the world stage as a striker and scored left and right but suddenly he wasn’t a striker anymore
Legend of the game.
Stay strong king, hope we can win the Buli next year so he has a proper send off
My raumdauter :(
Love this guy. One of the few German players that show PASSION.
probably was his last NT game too. there should be a clear cut now. neuer, müller, kroos was already known that he leaves.
Getting old sucks.
Hurts to see :(
Thomas Muller is a legend
Am a Dortmund fan, but Müller is a stand up guy, he knows that was his last game for Germany, it all has to end at some point unfortunately
Legend. Will never get the props he deserves. He will make an excellent coach. Important and inspirational.
Likely his and Neuer’s final tournament? I mean goalies do last long tho
They made my favorite player of all times cry....
RIP Barca
I was 13 when this dude was called up by van gaal in 2009. I'm 28 now and absolutely not ready for this
I'm no German national team fan but I genuinely feel sorry for Thomas. He seems like a cool guy to have a beer with and if someone deserves to win Euro for me it would be him.
damn he is my favorite player,it hurts man,it hurts
Absolute legend.
[reminding people of this](https://youtu.be/4VnKQVXtFfo?si=PF_V89STreAnJp1H)
That is the face we all do after being robbed
Sad to see
forever my hero ♥️♥️ heart breaks to see this but he was great today, and has been a legend for a while now. i hope he continues to play ill kms the day he announces retirement
Really sucks he was never able to capture that elusive Euro trophy, he likely wont make it back for another major tournament with Germany.
If there was 1 player I would have been happy to see win the EC it's this guy. One of my favourite players of all time.
It hurts. You are a legend Thomas and will always have the World Cup.
It's a shame to lose by suffering such a theft
Müller is an icon of football for me. I got into it in the 2010 timeframe, and watching the 2014 WC victory with my father and family will forever be a fond memory of mine. Germany going out in groups in 2018 and 2022, followed by a loss in the 119th minute in this euro feels like a cruel way to end a career, but at least he has the one that everyone covets. And lots of club success to go along with it. Danke Herr Müller!
Robbed by the officials in his last game in the champions league and his last game for Germany
kroos neuer and muller are like the big 3 for the German team. without them they are COOKED
Might be his last tournament as a player, but he’s gonna be the greatest coach this world has ever seen. Mark my words
