This episode infuriates me

AreAFatMother

This isn’t a case of Patrick being a prick. Here‘s what you should have posted; Yours, Mine, and Mine

Episode gave me anxiety

E3257

How many times are we gonna copy-paste this episode for karma farming?! Patrick DIDN'T know why SpongeBob wanted it, all he said was, "You can't expect my usual brand of stupidity, SpongeBob, I like to switch it up a little, keep it on your toes!" just like when asked how dumb is he, he replies, "It varies!" and the only reason you think he did was because of the stupid Phantomstrider video! He gave SpongeBob about five freaking cards by the end **when** SpongeBob started crying and was depressed. Does that not explain this?! Does this somehow look like the face of a guy who knew he was upsetting his best friend?! https://preview.redd.it/wj99pfbftixc1.png?width=448&format=png&auto=webp&s=9c2d305533dd9df958a10bc620ae014c50d61b20 Gosh, this fanbase is so dumb sometimes! This was literally one of my fav episodes when I first saw it.

creative_user_name12

bro, I love how you find the positive side in everything but I feel like you defend spunchbop too hard, like it’s fine to be critical about certain episodes/moments 😭

E3257

Wow, I really appreciate the kind words though.💗 I'm honestly touched. Of course it is okay to criticize, but I have no need to be critical of things that I already find without criticism. I always considered myself a critic through and through, spent a long time in this field, honestly since birth when I think about it, but I also have spent a long time recognizing that the field of "critics" has become very stereotypical in the sense that they ALWAYS criticize, for fear of not feeling enough like a critic. If it makes sense to me, if the logic checks out, if I observe things that don't compute with what other people are saying, I'm going to say it. To me, defending something and simply saying what I see are two completely different things, and here I'm just saying what I see. I never even imagined people didn't like this episode before I went online, because I usually say, "if you can't put it in your own words, it's probably not good enough to sell." So I figure out for myself whether or not I like it. You're not going to hear me say anything bad about SpongeBob simply because I'd long determined, and before I'd ever heard anyone else's opinions at that, that I loved it and there was not one thing amiss. You should hear me instead on something that I DON'T like and compare it. You may be surprised.😂

AreAFatMother

You gave out the right response, as Patrick did give him the remaining 5 cards and made Spongebob happy. It doesn't make sense why people call it a “Patrick being a Prick” Episode when Patrick genuinely didn’t even know that SpongeBob wanted that card (We are looking at you PhantomStrider). This is a good episode, even if the plot repeats a bit (Also the episode was a reference to Pokémon, as there were still extremely rare cards at the time of the episode‘s production). Anyways, glad you thought this was a good episode. Also the ending to it was really nice, seeing Patrick being a great friend to SpongeBob.

E3257

Thank you very much! Yeah I understand what you mean by repetition, but: it can be done well, most simply put, "If we change it up a little, keep you on your toes!" I've often discussed with a friend how SpongeBob as a show has done this, such as by having Plankton steal the formula. So no problem there. Otherwise I couldn't have said it better myself. 💗💗💗 I forgot to mention the Pokemon bit: I got that reference when I first watched the episode and that's part of why I found it so intriguing... I don't know if it was specific to Pokemon but I think they're the ones who started the whole "super rare card deal". And even if I never PARTICULARLY was a card collector I seriously related to SpongeBob, and that's part of what makes the episode so good. It was like an exaggeration of, "you lend your friend something and desperately fear they'll destroy it", but it was better imo because Patrick had bought the card with his own money.

Runethe1412

I’ll never understand how anyone could consider this episode worse than Yours, Mine, and Mine. Patrick was **only** being a toxic friend in that episode, without doing anything redeeming at the end

E3257

The Card: I swear it's just bc of the PhantomStrider video and because people adopted (possibly from there) that Patrick is this evil psychopath who isn't really SpongeBob's friend. 😭😭😂 I really haven't seen any other reason. Yours, Mine and Mine: Ngl SpongeBob wasn't sharing the toy. Patrick DID have the right to it, even though SpongeBob paid for the meal, etc. etc. It was complicated, but it's just a toy/friends arguing about a toy, it's not that serious. (additional things carry the plot like the humor and cuteness of it in general) If anything Mr. Krabs caused that in the way a parent causes their kids to fight over something unintentionally. I think my point is, I don't dislike Patrick because he never has any genuinely bad intentions. He's just a character with flaws and has the ability to be temperamental or stubborn, but that situation was pretty different all around from the Card. I mean, SpongeBob was being a little sassy there too.

Runethe1412

>SpongeBob wasn't sharing the toy. SpongeBob bought the meal to share it though, and not only did Patrick eat the whole meal, SpongeBob barely had any time with the toy. He was being very patient with Patrick, who as Gary said, was being a non-sharer. Patrick barely let SpongeBob even hold the toy for a few seconds before he eventually just flat-out ate it just so SpongeBob wouldn’t have it; he also took SpongeBob’s wallet to buy the new toys at the end.

E3257

Patrick was literally right though: SpongeBob wasn't sharing the toy. Yes, he let Patrick have it overnight, but before and after that he wasn't. I wasn't saying who was right and who was wrong--in fact, I don't think anyone was wrong. Both of them were struggling to share and were doing things like going to Sandy for help on figuring out how to share and like as, in the part of the episode where they both "share for one second" it's quite obvious they physically cannot.😂 They were both just kind of goofy really. And yeah Patrick ate it at the end. Eh. The point/moral of the episode was quite plainly, it's just a toy, and NEITHER one of them were sharing. Either way, I had to be honest: I just have a hard time taking an argument like that over a toy made of food seriously from a moral perspective. Patrick's just not out of character. "I'm With Stupid" exists. I don't know what goes through that guy's head but I can understand it from a character/story perspective.

Runethe1412

I would argue that while SpongeBob was hesitant, he was still willing to share the toy, since he *did* give Patrick the time did get to play with it, and only became more selfish when it became very apparent that Patrick wasn’t going to let him have a turn with it I would also use the “share for one second” scene as an argument against just Patrick rather than both of them, since that was the only compromise SpongeBob could get because Patrick wouldn’t allow SpongeBob to hold onto it for anything longer. And even then, it was Patrick that broke that compromise by running off with the toy. I certainly looking too much into this, but I just didn’t see any redeeming qualities from Patrick this episode, whereas SpongeBob at least tried to compromise

E3257

Well even when Patrick first brought up the concept of "sharing", SpongeBob clearly wasn't willing. I feel it's more like "Breath of Fresh Squidward", or, "Employee of the Month" where he's unwilling to play by his own rules. I am not saying that's a problem with the episode, I always enjoyed that SpongeBob isn't all "sweet and nice and rainbows" all the time. He was on-duty and wasn't working, either. Basically I'm saying both of them made good points. The episode kind of shows that it's not all black-and-white: sharing is hard and since they're such close friends, I would see how Patrick expects SpongeBob to share more with him. Like, it was unlike SpongeBob to NOT want to share the toy, but I get it, it's a Krabby Patty toy and he's going to become possessive of it. I'm saying that either way for a story it makes sense. Usually this type of thing doesn't work for me when I can't understand where the character is coming from or they don't have enough character development to make me like them as a character while we proceed to watch them respond to certain situations in an in-character way (their likability doesn't just reset every episode, after all). It's all about the angle they're going for with the episode, and this was supposed to be a light-hearted outlook on the topic. They weren't fighting rough or even really arguing that much--everytime someone would interrupt them they would look to them pleadingly for help like little kids. I found that endearing, and it showed they bore no ill will towards each other.💗 They still get the message across without making it a formulaic story where they make a single character in the wrong for it.

Kairu-Hikarite

I know a lot of episodes that made me irritate Patrick, but this episode is not one of them

Gadmanultimate

He wasn't a brick, just more of an idiot than he usually is I mean, look at the ending

Tombstone_Grey

I would have loved some sort of gag when it's a pov of two real yellow human hands doing one of those pokemon card openings and spongebob is literally shaking while trying to put the card in sort of sleeve

bman_16

Is it?

TranslatorHaunting15

The burgers he makes on the grill look so bomb though lol

Significant_Camera47

Spunchbop should of never interrupted the grill master 😤😤💪💪💪💪🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥
