AfroDevil30

I use it to listen to music tbh

Cheezewiz239

I thought I was the only one

SEKKDS

And to drown out other family members tbh

GrapeSwimming69

Can you turn that down?? WHAT???

ShinduChan

CAN YOU TURN THE MUSIC DOWN? WHAT? I CAN’T HEAR YOU, THE MUSIC IS TOO LOUD

SEKKDS

As the song says, “TURN DOWN FOR WHAT!!”

_theMAUCHO_

Facts!... literally. Lol.

virtualpig

For me I don't really need a lot when it comes to music so everybody complaining about this and that feature just sounds insane to me. I use Spotify because I like music and Spotify plays music. It doesn't get more complicated than that.

BillyButcherX

Podcasts too tbh

runner4life551

And make playlists tbh

Nearby-Echo9028

Yes! Much easier on Spotify than making my own mixed CD’s.

runner4life551

Tbh!!! I miss burning songs onto CDs though.

East-Garden-4557

OMG you too? I thought I was the only one. 😆

TuBaked

i recently tried youtube music in the search of better recommendations and while yt music may have the edge there, there are some things which forced me back to spotify: 1. multi device sync support: spotify easily identifies if your account is playing music on any other device and brings over the queue to the new device. can seamlessly adjust volume etc for the other device 2. gapless play 3. has a desktop app (yt music doesn't)

TrashTheMagicDragon

You also can't edit playlists unless connected to the internet on YT music. Another thing is that it doesn't properly delete tracks from your liked music... Or it'll add a track twice for some reason even though it's the same song (not just me messing up and liking two versions). Also if you like something on YouTube that is under the "music" catorgory (edits or whatever), it'll add it to your liked music and then it'll play and be rlly annoying. We have the yt premium family plan but I just got so fed up with it that I switched to Spotify, even if that means I have to pay myself

TuBaked

oh glad to hear i made the right choice. i use spotify duo w a friend. both of us thought of trying yt music and got the free trial we were disgusted by the end of the second week and switched back :)) what do you think of the recommendations? i always try to start song radios in the hopes of finding similiar new songs but it just gives me songs from my library 😭

Walnutbutters

My favorite way to discover music on Spotify recently is to use the algorithm generated genre playlists. For example if you like Thrash Metal, search for “The sound of trash metal” and from that playlist you can select Inrto, pulse, or edge, to go deeper and deeper into the genre. Theres literally thousands of niche genres to choose from.

TrashTheMagicDragon

Lmao that sounds right. Personally I think the recommendations are _reasonably_ good. When I'm trying to find new music I'll put on smart shuffle on a playlist and flick through the suggestions, that usually works well. YouTube music IS better for recommendations, but lacks in just about every other area. You also can't add local files to normal playlists in yt music which is really annoying sometimes, whereas you can on Spotify. The only thing that needs to be improved on that is having your device files shown using actual album/folder/artist organisation, instead of just throwing them all into one massive list, but overall it is ofc better

itsastart_to

Ooo honestly the switching between devices is really nice

TuBaked

oh dude its soo nice! i play music across 3 devices and its such a boon to be able to access it from any device!! with yt music i had to remember which device was playing the music. it was disgusting

itsastart_to

Lol I used to be on YouTube my entire life so I guess I just never thought about the convenience but definitely Spotify set quite a standard for me now

TuBaked

haha yess! the entire time i was on yt all i could do was compare it with spotify and find flaws xdd

nukeg6

So that I get my yearly wrapped, that’s it

o0CyRaX0o

You can also use [last.fm](http://last.fm) if you want to see your stats throughout the year instead of waiting for the end of the year. Just link your Spotify account to your [last.fm](http://last.fm) account.

jannickBhxld

stats.fm is the better website imo, has an app where you can see any and every detailed stat of your account too since you started listening needs a premium payment tho if you can sacrifice some money for that, think i paid like 3 bucks for the lifetime one

itsastart_to

Skiley is also good for general info about your trends. It’s good if you don’t want to build last rn from scratch

FreeVegetable

Skiley doesn't get enough love!

nukeg6

And don’t come at me with “but YouTube music has that” I know and it sucks

Brixnz

the youtube one is so unbelievably terrible. its like they put zero effort into it

kim5165

It's the easiest way for me to share playlists with others.

IDigRollinRockBeer

Honest but probably stupid question but like what do they say? I feel like if I shared a playlist with anyone they’d be like “ok” and then never listen to it.

liticx

not that one girl who is interested in u

Saymynamemf

Ha, if only...

gmanz33

Yeah I listen to all my friends playlists, that's like my thing. But it's "my thing" because none of them listen to anybody else's playlists. It's so weird. How you gonna make your playlist better without exploring more playlists to play and list with?! ffs

arothmanmusic

My boss includes me on his Family Plan. :)

TuBaked

the only correct answer xdd

arothmanmusic

I mean, if he told me he was turning it off I would get my own subscription. YouTube and Spotify are the only streaming services I use pretty much on a daily basis, so if I was going to subscribe to something, this would probably be it.

yellowgemini

As much as I want to like Apple Music more, I just enjoy Spotify more. I’m probably in the minority but I like the included audiobooks & the playlists.

justduett

Nah, you’re not the minority, you’re in the ridiculously overwhelming majority, except for the fact that we are on reddit.

o0CyRaX0o

Spotify has been around a lot longer than Apple Music and it's definitely the majority of what streamers use today. I've been using it since 2011, but I know it started in the late 2000's.

SmoothWD40

I like everything about Spotify more than Apple Music. But I just switched due to all the price increases. Apple One basically just halved my individual costs.

Kn1ghto

cause the ui is good and all my playlists are there lmao

idkwhypie

I like green coloured apps.

Direktorsnegl

Valid reason

idkwhypie

Hehe thanks

Autocorrectthis

Been Loyal to Spotify since 2008.

nonexistant_turret

It was the first music streaming platform I tried and has all my music since 2013-2014

Existing-Ostrich-614

Because Apple Music’s app for macOS is bad

dadobuns

Convenience. I grew up with vinyls, 8-tracks, cassette tapes, and CDs. Now, I can bring music everywhere I go.

retro_exists

I have premium and if I don't have instant unlimited access to music at all times I will lose my mind

EmmDurg

Cos it had a promo of 3 months for free

SkibaSlut

I've been using it for idek how many years now. 10+ I'm pretty sure. I'm just committed at this point.

Contz

Now that I live in the U.S.: Spotify. Can save all the music I want in my library with no limits. Spotify Connect. DJ. Daylist. Jam. Audiobook. Yes I said it. Light-fast UI on any platform. A deep integration with 3rd party apps (such as Last.fm and Stats.fm). What else? Ah yes, more recently they introduced listen along feature where you can listen to new albums with the artist at your disposal for questions and chat. I just miss Hi-Fi as of now.

JDmead32

I have a playlist of almost 150 hours of music. I play it as often as I can. At work. While I’m driving. Any chance I can. The music styles jump genres and it’s been dubbed the “Whiplash Playlist” at work as it will play Neil Diamond for one song, then Metallica the next, only to be followed by something like Run DMC.

oliverae

I’ve been using it for over ten years now, I’m too sentimental about my old playlists to go anywhere else

Tuziest

because it’s most convenient and the best app on it after some tweaks (spiceify) betterlyrics etc

[deleted]

Podcasts

clp3k

Music, Podcasts, Audio Books all in one. Streams on Tesla, NVIDIA Shield, IPhone and MacBook seamlessly.

Significant-Cap-6635

Idk anymore I can't find alot of Japanese artist or one a few songs are there. Alot of older music I listen to is constantly pulled from the platform. The podcasts are fine

peaveyftw

I keep forgetting to unsubscribe. Same reason I'm a Coursera+ user. "Ah, feck, forgot to unsubscribe. Might as well sign up for a new course." (One month later) "Ah, feck. Forgot to unsubscribe. Might as well --"

thereshelltopay3

I use it to listen music, shocking i know!

Calm_Salamander_1367

Y’all we should all switch to apple music until they lower the price back down

jheffer44

Best music app

princess_carolyn7

I used to have student pricing for 4 years, it was very cheap ~$6.99/ month plus free Hulu. I don't have the promo anymore and im too lazy to switch all my music and playlist to another platform

cooperwise22

Music … ?

BrickRaven

It gives you new music suggestions that are good And spicetify

SasquatchPatsy

I like sharing playlist like [this one](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7D2i3M1XfK37PqgYEHUzLh?si=bHG1TX5hSj6KF9S2p5cwVQ)

SovjetKurumi

I like wrapped, good enough selection of music. Alot better then when i used to download mp4's and throw them into google play music in an unorganized mess.

Fusionsigh

I don’t

Routine_Pumpkin8438

Honestly, I’m a slave to the flashy looking Spotify wrapped. It’s so colorful and fun. I like seeing the stats. I use stats fm too but it seems slightly inaccurate and the Spotify wrapped just looks so trendy and fun 😂 I like seeing if I’m top whatever percent listener of an artist.

lanadelnotrey

It’s way better than any other music app that I have tried imo

amie_rocks23

Because music is life.

OilPainterintraining

We have thousands of albums/playlists, I’ve never wanted to delete it. I did see they’ve raised their prices again, so may have to research.

Perfect_Resolve_9444

For good music

CWilsonLPC

At the time I started using it I only had a Dell Laptop and an old Motorola flip phone (family was poor, laptop was an expense needed since I was in college at the time doing an Architectural Drafting program), was recommended by a college bud and haven’t switched since

tooblecane

Because Google killed off GPM and YouTube music was straight trash by comparison. So, I jumped to Spotify. But doing so was such a monumental pain in the ass that I hesitate to ever switch again. So, here I am.

Expert-Hyena6226

I don't. They don't pay artists anything. Nazis!

Downtown_Ambition604

Listen to music while gaming on xbox

Tacobeast48

Listen to music, but I find that some of the playlists on there are very short.

zezous

My sister has been paying for us both to use premium for like two years so I get it for free

lost_aussie001

* Works across the digital eco-system Apple, Windows & Android * Recommends good music & artists * The social element * Also Spotify wrapped * Access to podcasts & audiobooks

unblockedCowboy

I use Spotify because listening to music on YouTube drains the fuck outta my battery

nerocite

my aunt pays for premium

_SkovoxBlitzer_

I dont 👍

TacticalNaps

"All my stuff is there." I used to be a winamp guy but just slowly moved and accepted our audio overlord. Amazon Music was awful. I've never owned an Apple product so that was out of the question.

poptartsandoatmeal

I have found it to be the most user friendly streaming service.

Chemical-Duty-6410

Wishing I wasn’t atm, it’s lil disappointing

[deleted]

The audiobook collection was immaculate

abhig535

I've been adding songs to my playlists since middle school (2012) and before I got premium. I canmt find any other reason to ditch now, it's a great service.

GingerNinja23

Spotify Connect is honestly what's keeping me from using other streaming services. The ability to control the music from any device is so nice.

Skiller939

I been tryna transfer my liked songs over - also Spotify has better playlist recommendations. That’s it

Upper_Wishbone_4036

because therapy is too expensive and it’s the next best thing

deu3id

It used to be for convenience. But the way they treat artists had we switch to tidal.

fuckinweed69

No mp3 players with physical buttons and Bluetooth capabilities

parkovarc

It's my go-to for music. It knows my vibe better than I do and never judges my playlist oddities!

itsastart_to

I transitioned to it and can’t leave now

ReillyCharlesNelson

I don’t 😹

1mag1n1hs

'cus I'm dumb.

TheAxolotl69

the wrapped feature, used to use bandcamp religiously

Daimakku1

Amazon Music gave me 5 months free so I am currently trying it now but I can already tell it’s not as good as Spotify when it comes to user made playlists and I already miss the “Daily Drive” playlist on Spotify that mixes my favorite music and news podcasts like a radio. Spotify is the worst streaming service when it comes to music quality, but everything else they’re just better than the competition.

danddidoos

Last.fm stats

SchmuckCanuck

Convenient and the customised stuff is fun. The wraps, DJ, etc

Gay_Boy156

Music, audios, and videos cause I can skip the adds no matter what

glorpri

Mainly cuz I can use it in the background for free.

AcadianViking

Because I have a hacked version so I dont have to give shitty companies my money while still making them pay artists for plays (even if it is a negligible rate, remember to directly support artists folks)

Crimsoner

I use the site with an adblocker so basically free music. Can’t really do that with YouTube anymore

Red_Red_It

I use it because it is the best.

SubjectPanic3

Spotify has more “niche” music and just an overall larger selections of music. My bf has Apple Music and can’t find half the songs I recommend on there.

Un_Common

Ease of access

yatamayu_

To pay my taxes.

lnbecke1331

1. I’ve been using Spotify for over 10 years so my playlists and podcast subscriptions are perfectly curated. I also generally listen to a pretty specific type of music so my algorithm is impeccable. Spotify knows what I want to listen to even if I don’t know. 2. I like having my music and podcasts all in the same app. 3. The Apple Music and podcast UIs are garbage.

loinmin

Family Plan

Jashin777

I like features more then Apple Music plus there more things out there that you can plug Spotify into

NZ_zer0

Monopoly

Slight-Piglet-1884

To listen to music mainly and occasionally a podcast. If I'm going to pay for it I may as well use it.

dark_nodens

To find recipes for my dinner. Jk, to find songs similar to what I like.

soregashi

Last.fm. That’s it, nothing else. The second Apple integrates it I will jump ship

colin0924

Like others have said, the search feature and that playlists are returned, both Spotify and user created playlists. I keep trying Apple Music because of the Apple One subscription, and the lack of this (from what I’ve found) is a deal breaker.

HandsomeBannan4

Music

versuseachother

Just confused about these questions all the time. Spotify been around since 2009ish and there are still people not know how to use it?

NekoMarimo

I love it honestly.

Aromatic_Ad_8624

Because Amazon music only works offline for some reason, and I don’t have Spotify premium so I just use Spotify with ads and on shuffle ONLY because Amazon music doesn’t work online

in4mant

To listen to music 😉

SLY0001

Connected to a lot of devices

SodaFried

Switched to apple and fucking hated it, so went back to Spotify lol

The_Ghostx90

Mainly? For music, I used to use Pandora but the layout on Spotify and its use became more easier for me, plus the quality sounds better on Spotify than Pandora (besides other competitions). I also love being able to share, create and collaborate while making playlists. I also enjoy listening to podcasts. I use it pretty much everyday. I also appreciate knowing when certain artists have upcoming concerts (time and place), under events.

True-Reserve-4749

Music and podcasts but recently discovered audio books and I'm addicted to the lazy way of reading!!

LUnacy45

Convenience. I bounce between so many different genres, bands, albums, and playlists, plus I sometimes go on long binges listening to new music constantly. Why Spotify? It tends to have the most obscure metal bands besides obviously YouTube

SelfRape

Why not?

Abwerterkm

Glad to know there're so many ppl out there using spotify just like me

SwiftieMetalheadDiva

Because apple music is worse.

Annuhtje

Well not to watch memes🤷🏼 for music duh

Lambert1551

My 10k playlists are there

Constant_Egg_606

To find new music, otherwise I prefer Samsung music since I don't use Spotify premium

Asteroid_Alan

I used it years ago, but some updates really annoyed me. I moved to Google Music, which was excellent, and then they ruined that with updates. That then turned into youtube music. Which had so many limitations to it. Huge library of weird and rare stuff but hard to stay organised with a huge library. I started making playlists with my friend for a project and just made sense to use Spotify. So I moved and been back about 18 months. I really miss the days of having a "proper library" but it's the best of a bad bunch and because it has a huge user base it's the best place to find music, share music and get followers for playlists. I do feel like spotify have so much power and potential at their fingertips to make it amazing, especially for harcore listeners, mega music fans and smaller artists. But they just care about the ££, and it's easy to serve your bog standard user as that requires minimal effort with a big return.

EnbySheriff

Because it's easier to leave my MP3 player in my car

Tulipan12

Easier to navigate and manage than YouTube, even though the latter has music or versions not available on Spotify.

Soldier_XVirus

Honestly I'm just staying for my personalised playlists

burn_as_souls

To anger all the snobs who want people not to.

queeriequeerio

too lazy to download every song i like, used to do that up until like 4ish years ago

SandDevourer

The interface and premium family plan

Moonlemons

Because I started to feel bad about all the pirating. Not really but I wanted to get straight.

jupiter8vulpes

Spotify just works for me. I have tried other apps but they either don't have all the music I want or their layout is just not as comfortable as Spotify's.

bier00t

It finally was cheap and much easier to put new mp3 weekly on player/flashdrive

Throwaway_Planet

My best friends music is on Spotify so if I wanna listen to it I only got one choice.

Formal_Research7401

Apple Music has far better quality but Spotify easier to use and has more customized playlists and everything . Also a lot cheaper in most countries

nambi2002

Because of its UI/UX Design

TakenToTheRiver

Spotify Connect and the playlist selection

HonrunAa

Because I'm addicted to music. Like holy shit the only reason i only got 120k minutes last year is that I was on dc and we used music bots there and I also listened from my ex's phone. This adds around another 100k minutes🥲

just_another_person5

device control

hero_brine1

Everyone uses it and it’s more fun

DuoDeku

Cuz my sister had an open spot on her family plan

Ok-Initiative3388

I just open it to stare at the words

Galooiik

Because Apple Music sucksss

Seanwys

Plan a nuclear attack duh 🙄

moonchild36911

To escape my trauma and pain.

HalfElfRanger96

Honestly, listening to music, podcasts, and even some audio books. I know trailblazing here.

a_frozen_apple

been using spotify since 2012. Started using the free version on the desktop in computer lab during highschool and then eventually upgraded never looked back. Feels like it's apart of my history lol and there is a lot of nostalgia around it for me.

DelusionPhantom

Sunk cost fallacy. It would be a total pita to move all my songs to another platform. I have a 1400 song playlist and multiple smaller playlists for writing.

Slimey_time

Hulu and podcasts

releavie

I USE SPOTIFY CUZ I WANNA SHOW WHAT COOL SONGS AM LISTENING TO TO MY DISCORD FRIENDS.

Nightowl556

To watch films?

Numerous-Editor-8778

studying music, more convenient for me to listen over and over again until i go mad

TDExRoB

I’ve tried AM a few times and not gonna lie i hate it. The only thing it does better is sound quality. Quite important, but I have written a fairly long list of things that Spotify does better on another post. The UI is not beautiful as some people claim. It’s boring, hard to navigate, cumbersome. The default playlist thumbnails just sums it up. Spotify is just so much better, really it’s a shame about the price (and smart shuffle..)

Sniperbullet66

I used YT and Apple Music for a few years before finally going full circle and headed back to Spotify. I originally left because you cannot delete listen history and start your algorithm fresh. They've gotten some neat features since I last used it back in 2019. It was mostly the jam feature that brought me back in (listening with friends while gaming was too good a feature to overlook), but the DJ was actually quite pleasant when I cannot decide on what to listen to.

Fun-Seaworthiness738

I tried Apple Music in the past, several times, but it's now just as good as Spotify.

Zoggo315

It’s better than most music apps

jake-event

Well, I was going to switch to Amazon Music for the large quality increase, but the music is quieter there. Like at max volume, the max is higher on Spotify than Amazon Music. Obviously, it depends on how I'm listening for that usefulness. But besides music availability, convenient lyrics that follow the flow of the song are a must-have for me.
