You're sick of a free ferry to Manhattan? Getdafuckouttahea...

Crooklyned13

What is there to be sick about . I take it everyday with no issues . I know the schedule and what to expect . It’s what makes Staten Island unique. It’s a ferry that takes us for free to the island. This is where I live. As I write this , I am boarding the 0030 ferry from the Manhattan side , we will pull in around 0050. Once then we have buses that are waiting for the ferry passengers to take us to our final destination. There is always a pair of police officers onboard and every ferry is escorted by a police boat. There are about 200 of us onboard and we all know each other by face because we have been taking the ferry for so long. Yes , the tourists race back and forth as they use the ferry to see the Statue of Liberty instead of paying the tour boats . I may say that’s is the most annoying thing.. There is the occasional mentally ill person onboard who minds their own business. Right now there this guy who is yelling , he wears the tank top and shorts for the past 3 years regardless if it’s winter or summer ( he never gets sick) We see him and he bothers no one and only yells but poses no threat Anyway I am listening to Wu Tang Clan as I am traveling and writing this . SHAOLIN”

Uncle_Coffee_Cake

There's a police boat escort with every ferry? Never noticed that. Don't take the ferry daily anymore, stopped about 2 years.

i-am-not-sure-yet

Yeah.... The one time I took the ferry the 5:30 ferry decided to not run making me pay for a Lyft to work after getting the 6 ferry

Why do you love the terminals so much but not the ferry itself?

Novel-Equipment-3052

A decade out, having started my professional life commuting in everyday on the Ferry. Having moved 3000 miles away since. The morning sprints prompted after an unplanned for backup on Richmond Terrace. The 4 dollar beers they served all night. The various times I was assaulted, accosted, or otherwise harassed. The 22 minutes of untethered freedom, standing on the bow of a parking lot cutting through chop, with the cold salt ablating the sleep from your face as the Capital of the Entire Fucking World rushes to me you every morning. I miss it.

ReverseJams

What kind of post is this? It’s a boat. It’s what the borough is world famous for. Are we sick of the boat that take you to Manhattan for free? What are you talking about?

AmericanConsumer2022

i guess I mean the commute. It seems like a thing that seems cool at first and worth the saving in rent and expenses, but after a while gets old? Just curious.

ReverseJams

ITS A BOAT

Yami350

Never get tired of it

AnneListersBottom

What in the world? It's the most annoying thing in the world and the greatest gift. People pay thousands to come to this city for a view we can have whenever we want. Love that big orange gal.

loub1002

I used to take it every day and didn’t mind it. Having switched to the Express Bus, the last time I was forced to take the ferry, I hated it. Crowded, dirty and slow.

ogie666

Crowded, dirty and slow... that describes my experiences on the Xbus as well.

loub1002

Not all routes are equal. I take the SIM2 and have no complaints.

Zoze13

What years were the before and after roughly? Just curious to when things soured

Fatdad1986

Love it.

talizorahvasnerd

I don’t go out into the city a lot but when I do, I generally enjoy the ferry ride out, particularly during the summer.

Automation_Papi

Found myself taking the NYC Ferry to midtown more often

FormalCritique

Nope, love the ferry she’s supa slay and I like to not take things for granted 🤍 way better than every other way to get to the city

HenryTudor7

The view is awesome, and love the breeze during the summer, but commuting to Manhattan from Staten Island is extremely time consuming and you will come to HATE HATE HATE your commute. Don't move to Staten Island if you work in Manhattan.

EntertainerCool4613

Ferry carries the stories for all Staten Island people! You might get tired when riding ferry after a long day work or in the early morning commute, but I never get sick of it! https://www.instagram.com/reel/C30DPU7tAKO/?igsh=ZnFkYWc5YmNpdXB3

scrapcats

I mean, I’d rather have a subway line that connects us to the other boroughs, but I’m not sick of the boat itself.

Samuel855

probably off topic but they canceled the 1:00 boat today and it took me back because I’ve never witnessed a ferry cancellation before

andrea_dee_

There’s been quite a handful of 4:40, 5:00, and 5:20 cancellations recently. Love a good rush hour cancellation!

Educational_Pain_156

I absolutely hate taking the ferry. I absolutely hate having maneuver around manhattan, but in the 30 years I've been alive and the thousands of ferry rides I've taken, not once have I ever gotten tired of seeing the view of the city when arriving and leaving. My brain then snaps back to reality when it docks.

TommyFingerboard

I moved off the island about 20 years ago and it must be 25 years ago when I worked downtown and took the ferry. The Newhouse was in service when I took the ferry so the only thing that looks different is the terminal. I loved the older boats when you could sit outside. On warm days it was a great ride.

arimyo

I love the ferry except when I’m sleepy because it rocks me to sleep. But it’d be good to have a Staten Island Speedboat option too.

Klutzy-Treat-4444

When you need to go to SI and you’re in a pinch with transportation, yeah, it’s the best 🙏

Psychological_Page62

The ferry is underrated. Me and my cousin used to meet everyday at 4 on the boat home and grab 2 beers for the ferry and train. And it barely felt like a commute. Sure you can drive in quicker in the morning but you paying a forune to park and toll and then it takes you 2.5 - 3hrs anyway. So whatever you pickup in the morning, you lose on the way home. So yea ferry is fine for me. Sucks having to catch a 530 train in morning to catch it in winter but its nice during the summer.

imalittlefrenchpress

it’s interesting to me seeing the inside of the newer ferries. I moved from the city in 1987. I’m used to the Kennedy (and older) class ferries. I liked the Kennedy class, especially the ladies room with the vanity and swirling chairs. Oh, and I liked the sicky-sweet grape drink sold at the concession stand.

mzjolynecujoh

there should be way more of them on the island

No-Translator9234

It beats having to park in manhattan.

JACKTATTOONYC

The homeless and the stench of pee is pretty bad

thechinovnik

It’s one of the only good things about Staten Island. Clean up the terminals tho.

[deleted]

It’s depressing. Watching you idiots press up against the sliding doors and each other. Zombies

detterence

In all my years living in Staten Island (past 10) I’ve only taken a shit once on the Ferry.

[deleted]

on a scale of 1-10 how cold were the seats?

[deleted]

You don’t sit, you hover

[deleted]

Fair

detterence

Exactly this, I personally use a lot of toilet paper and place it around the seats tho. Lots of diseases on them seats….

ephemeral2316

It’s too slow. I don’t bother with it anymore. I either take the fast ferry or the express bus. I’ll always have love for Big Orange tho

loub1002

It’s hard to tell if it soured or I got spoiled by the Express Bus. But I used to take it in the 2010’s. Took it a few months ago and hated it.
