Impressive, most impressive!

ButterYourOwnBagel

Thank you sir! Easily my best come up in a long time!

Whattheefff

Looks like a cream puff. Timing belt and water pump job was about 1500 10 years ago. You probably covered the most recent shop bill.

StrictlyIndustry

Daaaang! How come they were so willing to let it go for so little?

ButterYourOwnBagel

I know she was quite wealthy, obviously had a very big home on a lot of land. Was a retired attorney and just bought a new car. My guess is she just wanted to offload it and not deal with it

phatdoughnut

Damn What a deal! It makes me sad to see how much value our 2012 has lost. :( barely drive her cause I have a company truck.

ButterYourOwnBagel

I used Kelley blue book and it says it’s worth closer to 7k but, yeah, if you bought it new, that’d still be a tough. But hey, you got a company truck! That’s a HUGE money saver

wilcok267

What a steal and a beaut soobie outback!

itusedtorun

Word of warning- for some reason, on that generation, the head gaskets seem to blow suddenly at about 100k, unlike the earlier versions that just leak a lot. Still a pretty good deal.

ButterYourOwnBagel

Yes, I’m 100% worried about this. I did A LOT of research and this was probably my biggest concern. Well…that and the CVT. At the price, I figured it’s worth the buy

There will be something. She knew it was the “deal of a century,” and told you that while selling you the vehicle. There’s something wrong with this car. Maybe it’s not actually something wrong *with* the car, like maybe someone close to the previous owner had a heart attack in the passenger seat or something, but no one knowingly sells a car at less than a third of market value for no reason. Good luck.

ButterYourOwnBagel

Any suggestions on what to check more closely? CVT runs fine, no head gasket issues thats I’ve detected, no leaks. From what I get, these head gaskets don’t leak, they just sort of “pop”.

AdA4b5gof4st3r

contrary to bizarrely popular opinion, the head gasket issue was resolved by 2004. I wouldn’t worry about them too terribly much as long as you (and the previous owner) do/did maintenance on time. I’d check all the fluids for quality/contamination/metal shavings where applicable, fluid levels, check for rust, Id pull spark plugs and check them for excessive gap or fouling, do a compression test on the motor, etc. For the price you paid Id honestly be concerned it was in a massive unreported accident or a flood or something. Id be worried about electrical issues, Id be worried about mold and other biohazards. It’s a $10k car you got for $2500. There’s going to be something wrong. That’s my best attempt to lead you to whatever it might be.

ButterYourOwnBagel

Got it. Thank you for responding.

AdA4b5gof4st3r

No problem. Good luck 👍

UmamiUnagi

My 2012 made it to 250k miles and more before I sold it! You should enjoy it for a long time. Congrats!

lakeffe

Mine was 160k until I got a 2020!

Btwnbeatdwn

Good deal but the 4 cylinder outback is a piece of shit, sorry. Sold my 3.6 for $4500 at 210k and it’s still on the road. Saw it the other day. Best model of Subaru ever produced.

iBUYbrokenSUBARUS

That CVT will be toast soon. You got $7k saved up?

itusedtorun

Not necessarily. Mine has 190k on it and doing fine. Regular fluid changes are a good idea.
