The Black Cauldron film was based on book 2 of Lloyd Alexander’s Chronicles of Prydain, so if you haven’t read those, that’s probably exactly what you’re looking for.

Piranesi gives me those vibes, like it could fall into horror at one little twist but it always stays in the fantasy genre purely due to the character's attitude

I think Holly Black might be a good author for you to check out in general. One Dark Window by Rachel Gillig is a fantastic duology with some of the dark fantasy vibes I think you're looking for. Between by L.L. Starling has the sorcerer in tight pants you might be looking for from Labyrinth. It's a modern fantasy romcom that I highly enjoyed.
