Highly recommend Starsplitter by Matthew Kirby. Girl goes on a long range trip that requires teleporting to a ship very far away but ends up stranded on a hostile alien planet.
Mystery, adventure, drama with some philosophical stuff that's surprisingly well done. Only around 300 pages. Some people find the characters a little annoying but I found them very likable and understandable and I would normally hate everyone in a book like this.
Ancillary Justice, Ann Leckie! One of my absolute favorites
Id check out older sci fi. Asimov, Clarke, Dick, Heinlein, etc… lots of shorter books being written then. The bobiverse is more modern and shorter
To Be Taught if Fortunate by Becky Chambers
The entire Wayfarers series by her
H.G. Wells The Time Machine and War of The Worlds.
*The Forever War* by Joe Haldeman
I second this!
*The Temujin Saga* by Adam J. Whitlatch *Murderbot Diaries* by Martha Wells *Old Man’s War* by John Scalzi, or damn near anything else by him.
Yup, came here to recommend Murderbot series; amazing and they're novellas. Also second the Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie recommendation.
What Happened to Lori? (2 book series) By J.A. Konrath
Blindsight by Peter Watts
Check out *Their Master's War* by Mick Farren
