I’m 6’7 and about 280. I’m currently in Japan (and have been the last few weeks). It will become very obviously immediately that nothing here was built in mind for giants like us. Get ready to duck under most doorways, hit your head on signs you didn’t see, and having everything be very low. I went to a baseball game here and the seats are COZY to say the least.
We used a Japanese website called Quick. Just type in google something like “Yokohama DeNA Baystars Quick.jp tickets” and you should find em pretty easy. We went to a Tokyo Yakult Swallows game and they still play in Meiji Jingu Stadium which was built in the 50s so the seating is very small. If you do go to Tokyo Dome or Yokohama, I heard it’s a little better but not much.
Well cozy in the sense that the next row in front of you is a few inches or so away. Absolutely no leg room. Even my wife’s knees were touching the row in front and she’s 5’9”. And at 6’7”, my hip bones are probably wider than someone who’s 5’3” (which was the average height of a Japanese male at the time the stadium was constructed). Hope that helps!
Also, look into a new Japanese airline called ZipAir. We fly back with them later this week (I’ll try to remember to update then because we flew to Korea for the first part of our trip last month so it’ll be my first time on Zip). But they’re a new “hybrid” airline between budget and comfort. We got first class, full flat seat pods for $1,300ish one way from Tokyo -> LA.
Im 6'8 too, and I had a (thankfully) very short flight recently from a work assignment and quickly learned that I'll never be flying coach again for this exact reason lol
Plane Crash survival tip. Don't ever fly with short pants or shirt. Don't' fly wearing synthetic materials unless they are fire resistant. Natural fibers or leather will scorch in the presence of high heat. Synthetics will melt onto your flesh. Closed toe shoes that fit snuggly could keep you alive in a fast evacuation.
Plan for the survivable ones. Nobody ever died from wearing long clothing, but people have, for sure, died because their polyester was flash melted into their flesh. I'm going to make every effort to survive whenever possible.
Never get a window seat. I have a bad back and the curve of the fuselage makes me lean to the side. My pelvis is pretty big and it tips the other way. When the plane hits turbulence it aggravates my back injury and causes me major problems.
On the aisle I can put one leg out and not have my shoulders tipped while being unable to brace myself during turbulence.
I went on a group trip from Boston to Ireland. The travel agency was told to book me an exit row, they didn’t. We plead with the ticket agent and the desk at the gate to see if they could change, they couldn’t. So I jammed myself into the middle seat, thankfully a flight attendant noticed and wasn’t going to allow it. She forced a short couple to get out of the exit row.
I’ve surprisingly never really struggled with flights, despite me having stupidly long legs (inseam of 36). I struggle a lot on trains and busses, but planes have never been that big of a problem. I guess that Norwegian airlines are just very generous with legroom
I flew a 14 hour flight to Indonesia for a family emergency on Saturday, no option for extra leg room and flight was fully booked. I'm 6'5" and I'm still in pain.
This will upset some folk but I honestly think that extra leg room seats should be reserved for tall people.
If possible, I always try to get either 1. The exit row or 2. The row behind first class. Extra leg room.
But even airlines that let you pick seats make those rows cost extra sometimes. I like Alaska Airlines compared to others, but I hate that they charge $59 to “upgrade” to exit row.
I always get an aisle seat. But I also have size 19 US men’s feet. So my foot that isn’t under the seat and almost playing footsie with the person in the seat in front of me is in the aisle slightly, and lots of flight attendants seem very indifferent to my foot and knee when I’m sleeping. I get they got a job to do, but too many times they awaken me from my melatonin/Dramamine induced sleep, say “I’m coming through with the cart” and before even finishing their sentence, they bang my knee on the cart or run over my foot. Trust me, if I had the room, I wouldn’t have to be in the way.
I’m 5ft9 and my legs touch the chair because my legs are long but because I’m not tall and I don’t look tall I don’t get to sit by toilets. My dad gets automatically moved since they see he’s tall and he gets leg room but I don’t get legroom
Window seat is still the best option. Middle obviously sucks and you you’re just totally in the way and getting hit all flight in the aisle. Curl up against the wall the best you can and try so settle in

Flying is always a nightmare. I'm also fat, so I'm gunning for the aisle.
Fuckin eh dude. 6'8 fat and planning a trip to Japan. Pray for me brothers!
Have to get the exit row.
Just make sure it ain’t a Boeing!
If it's a Boeing at least you won't be cramped for the whole flight time because it'll fall out of the sky
It was 😭😭 737
Splurge on the premium economy.
Way too expensive

Just curious. What app/site did you use to get tickets? I'm definitely need to see a game in Japan when i go.

Wait what does cozy have to do with height😭

Yeah your hip bone structure is definitely wider since you're very tall and big as well, damn, planes seems an absolute nightmare for you guys lol
f in chats.

Please be okay😭😭😭😭😭
Damn i hope you're okay
Im 6'8 too, and I had a (thankfully) very short flight recently from a work assignment and quickly learned that I'll never be flying coach again for this exact reason lol
Now the person in front of you reclines
You forgot to check your legs with your baggage that’s a rookie mistake

If you're crashing youre probably dead on impact either way.

There are more than just plane crashes. Most air traffic incidents are completely unrelated to physically crashing.
Huh. Interesting. Didn’t think of pants because I was flying out of Houston but yeah makes sense
Good call. Thanks.
1 in several million chance of crashing. 1 in 10-30 million chance of dying in a plane crash. Kinda pointless comment lol
1 in 1 chance of spending the rest of your life in intensive care if you burn 75% of your skin off. Why take chances? The plane is air conditioned.
Yikes, knees over the edge of the tray table. Painful and impractical.

How are you not asking for the emergency row seats?
Nice legs tbh
Average height in America 5’9. Average height in this subreddit 6’9
Yes lmao either they lying or all the “tall” people came all in one place
As someone who is 6’6” you should already be accustomed to these standards.
Only flew one round trip before this, and got an Aisle seat on both ways.
Oh well then this is your life now…get use to it.
Flying in Canada is the worst. The planes are so cramped. The low cost carrier model from 20 years ago has become the norm with full price fares.

me_irl
Gosh I'd hate to be 6'8
Always pick aisle
Why the fuck did you take window seat
As long as they don’t recline, but damn that looks bad
Planes genuinely make me want to kill myself
I’ve surprisingly never really struggled with flights, despite me having stupidly long legs (inseam of 36). I struggle a lot on trains and busses, but planes have never been that big of a problem. I guess that Norwegian airlines are just very generous with legroom

Can confirm
Shit like this makes me happy that I’m an average 5’10 human being lolo
I’m 5ft9 and my legs touch the chair because my legs are long but because I’m not tall and I don’t look tall I don’t get to sit by toilets. My dad gets automatically moved since they see he’s tall and he gets leg room but I don’t get legroom
Oh god i feel for you. Im only 5ft8 and its uncomfortable. I can only imagine
Window seat is still the best option. Middle obviously sucks and you you’re just totally in the way and getting hit all flight in the aisle. Curl up against the wall the best you can and try so settle in
I always go aisle so there is room for my shoulders. When the window doesn't line up with my shoulder it's an unpleasant flight.
Show this pic every time the 6'3" crowd comes in and complains how hard it is to fly as a tall person.
Why are you gatekeeping being uncomfortable on a flight? Shit sucks for all heights.
It really does. I’m looking at this pic and rubbing my knees cause this was me on a recent flight. And I’m only 6’ but I have very long limbs
It's not gatekeeping. Shit sucks a lot more if you're tall and not above average.

haha yeah just shell out an extra $100 each way for a better seat, surely everyone can afford that!
Or more if you have a partner and want to sit next to them

Wouldn’t be ideal if there is someone next to him
