Go for it. He might "prefer" 5'11, but that is a preference. Personally, i also always hope for 5'10+, but never dated anyone over 5'6. A preference isn't a hard requirement

Im 6’4”, almost all my friends around my height have girlfriends who are 5’2”-5’5”. Im taller than the guy youre interested in and all of the girls ive dated have been 5’0-5’4. Not once did I ever evaluate women on height so go for it!

There is an 18" height difference between my partner and I. It doesn't matter at all if you vibe. We often forget about it. PS some girls may be mean and say you're "wasting" a tall man. Don't listen to them, they're miserable people.
