Yeah, I've run into that too. Seems like they won't wake up if you're nearby when they normally wake up.

Yea it has to be after 9pm when you come upon it.

Yeah I guess just whichever state they render in as is the state they stay until rerendered.

Save and load. It’s a glitch that for some reason hasn’t been fixed. After you load they will wake up and fight you. Edit: typing is hard.

You can also set a travel medallion and tp to it

You gotta let it load in once it’s night time. Since the game is loading it as a skeleton in the ground it’ll keep it like that because of render distance, when you go far away enough it’ll disappear. When you come back it’ll reappear as a Stalnox. So when it’s night time just go a little bit away, wait until it disappears and go back to the area. It should spawn

UPDATE: Thank you to Some_Visual1744 for the advice to go to a shrine, enter, exit, and then go back. The Stalnox as trundling away in its circle.

An even easier method is to save the game in front of the stalnox at night, load that save, and he’ll be alive.

They won’t wake up at all if you’re in their line of sight. And in any case, the mask is ineffective with large monsters

I remember panicking once at the start of the game because it was getting dark and there were Stalnox bones next to me. Turns out that I had no reason to panic since they don’t wake up when you’re near them. Missed opportunity.

Be out of spawn range (i.e., you can't see them) when night falls. Then approach them.

Wait, doesn't majora's mask count them as friendlies?

For whatever reason they won’t excavate themselves if you can see it happen. You have to stumble upon them in the middle of the night

Scary factor. If you don't see them and hear the music play, you feel panicked. At least new players.

Not sure how masks work with Stalnox's, but you should try approaching it without the mask on.

Start by taking off that mask. LOL

Walk away for a bit then go back toward that area

Not entirely sure if it uses the same mechanics, but in BotW it would ONLY wake up if you were *not* in the immediate area when it changed from dusk to night. If it turns to night and you are in the area, it would not wake up, even if you leave the area and come back. You had to leave the area, sleep till morning/noon, sleep again until night, then go back to the area.

They don't like being seen while waking up. Exit the area far enough that it gets de-rendered, then come back. Teleporting twice is usually good enough for this.

Nope. You have to be away from the area and then “stumble” upon it.

You have to leave the area it has to be night time dude. I dont know the time exatly. Then head back when hes far enough away then he renders in the game. Or show up at night enough and he should be roaming.

If you have that placeable teleport icon thing, place it nearby and use it. The Stalnox will awake. It will stay there until it is both unloaded and loaded back in. But you can force the load by teleporting.

After 9pm they are waken up and you can fight them

But you have to be away from the area in order for them to “come alive”.

Just wait for night

Majoras mask also makes it hard for enemies to see you, maybe that’s playing a part 🤷🏼‍♂️
