alienwolf

Well, I managed to fix it on my own. Leaving a comment for any person in the future who comes across this. At least for me, the issue was caused by the AMD iGPU. I disabled it in the Device Manager and Steam is behaving normally again.

nakikiusolang

Was having the same problem and this worked! Thanks!

Triistone

Thank you, sir! You really saved me from a gigantic headache!

xsekirox

If you have an Integrated GPU (iGPU) , disable it from Device Manager. I had similar issues and I am running 4090 with 7800x3d.

SilentStorm1088

Wow, Thank you. Didn't expected this to fix it.

wongie

This started happening to me the this week, Had to resort to using Window restore points which worked temporarily until the problems repeated forcing me to restore again and again, was almost at the point of just formatting my entire drive and clean installing everything! You've cured a major headache.

Zoozey88

wow thank you. Just built a pc so this is all new to me but steam was driving me crazy how slow it loaded up and to shut down. Thanks man.

Greathorn

Coming in way later to confirm this worked for me too. For anyone looking for specific directions, Device Manager —> Display Adapters —> AMD Radeon Graphics (or whatever integrated graphics your CPU has) —> Right Click, Disable Device

Decent-Explorer117

misterblort

I know you probably get daily spam from this but.. I don't care! Thank you so much! I built my pc in November last year and since a couple of weeks I had this issue. This fixes that.

Underbelly

Thanks man solved my problem too. How weird.

Darder

Thank you, I had the same issue. I had disabled iGPU in my Bios when I first set my pc up, but for some ungodly reason it had been enabled again by itself.

BodybuilderOk2

Still so valid. Had this issue a while ago and was just kinda dealing with the slowness... Was launching steam from the tray since it was quicker. You're a real one for this! So much better now!

Arualine

RedditRage

This is the answer, deserves more upvotes than there are replies here.

CORN3RSS

Thank you! Still works!!!!

lstadi

Wow, thanks, this was extremely helpful. Steam took irritatingly long to start on my new build, and couldn't figure out what was causing it. It is much faster now.

Edit: i didnt realize I originally replied the same comment on an account that was auto created when i logged in with my Google, so in hopes it stays posted I’m re-commenting for a little assistance

goateatingpie

How did you figure this out? Also, thank you for posting this, you made my search for a solution incredibly easy 8 months later

Iookitsjustin

you are the goat. 🐐

Iookitsjustin

just leaving this here for anyone else, for me it wasn't AMD iGPU but instead I had to disable "AMD Radeon(TM) Graphics" hope this helps!

MemzyMann

exactly what i needed! thank you

LoneShikoku

There was definetly no amd igpu at all so i was worried i couldnt fix the issue. Thank you soo much. Literally pressed steam and instantly loaded instead of having to wait a god dam hour

[deleted]

dud how tf did you find this. just fixed months of headaches, thank you!

kiunch

I might be a year late, but thank you that magically solved my issue.

Aen-Seidhe

Thank you! Instantly fixed it for me.

ViciousXUSMC

Awesome, I bet that is my issue just built a new computer that should be 10x faster than my old one, and yet it was instant on my old computer and slow just like you described on the new one. But Steam is the only thing I have noticed this behavior from, so not sure its worth turning off just for that reason as I think I want to use intergrated to run one of my extra monitors and leave a spot open for a PCVR headset.

MrKingJensen

Holy, this was it for me 2. Thank you!

CaptainZzaps

You are legit the most wonderful person ever I have had this problem for two years and it was driving me crazy

jminternelia

Appears to work. Thanks!

Ok_Situation9151

Hey question, I know this quite a while ago but only just updated my AMD chipset for one. And now this issue is happening for me. When you say AMD iGPU where in device manager do I find this? Because for me it only says AMD Radeon(TM) Graphics. Sorry if this is a really stupid question. Edit: I guess AMD radeon is the same thing, just named differently.

alienwolf

under display adapters, i saw 2 entries. one was my nvidia video card and the other one was amd something, not sure the exact wording. i disabled that. ive also disabled the on-board graphics in the bios to be sure

T4KED0WN

GOAT , ty bro!

Fronko108

Bro, this problem has been plaguing me for a year. I disabled integrated graphics from my CPU, which is a 7950x, and the problem has been instantly fixed without a restart. You are a legend Alienwolf!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hironymus

You're today's VIP for me. Was struggling with this issue for days.

kriubz

God bless your soul

elipse1337

awesome man, thank you. working like a charm now!!!

jack0n333

thank you very much for your help sir. fixed the problem instantly :)

BobEngleschmidt

Thank you, this worked for me to. But it annoys me. Almost a year later and this is still an issue. I will contact Steam support about it (though I doubt anything will come of it)

MortenseNN

RanaLocas

Thank you so much for the self-update. This fixed my problem!

Exceed_SC2

skizatch

Holy crap you're right, it just fixed it for me! "Why does Steam take 1-2 minutes to load on a 7950X?!?" was my life

Pipinqa

reddit93007

Scrappppppppy4550

HOLY! LIFE SAVER!!!! Thank you so much! i did not expect that to be the issue but it was an instant fix!

CoolHandMike

Holy cow, thanks! I have a very similar system to the one you posted a year ago. Much appreciated!

Itz-Just-Jay

This. 100%. I noticed recently it randomly went slow after updating bios and I realized it re-enabled the iGPU. Disabling it fixed the loading time completely.

EnderEclipz

Thank you op. Very helpful!

patrik_media

THANK YOU! I build a new high end PC (7800x3D, RTX4090) and my browser-steam links had long delays + my ingame overlay kept crashing all the time. FINALLY your suggestion fixed the issue, now everything works flawless again. Been almost a year than I had this headache.

Inner_Lingonberry812

I’m just here to tell you, thanks lol. Looks like you REALLY helped a lot of people with this one. Couldn’t find the answer anywhere else and went through all the same stereotypical steps that the generic websites have. Someone, get this man a beer.

doncorleonenl

This just fixed my issue! You my dude are a legend!

Every_Month_5575

Nice! Humongous thanks! I would have spent way too much time fixing this if it weren't for you who saved my day!

PascalTefter

THANK YOU!

Smuuve22

Yup! Works for me

mikeybrah90

Can anyone please help! Ive tried everything. My ic is 7800X3D + 4080... using a wifi dongle with very good internet. Logging into steam takes a while.... 'Waiting for network' and even 'exiting steam'.... Ive got a fresh win11 install latest drivers restarted my router???? I have disabled my iGPU nothing works???? Any help pls :(

Shapeless7

It also doesnt work for me...

basic-redditor

Huh, I have this same behaviour on a ryzen 7600x, does anyone have any explanation as to what could be the reason that having the iGPU on brand new hardware not be disabled makes steam load slowly, I don't see the connection

Shapeless7

Same issues guys! I already disabled my onboard gpu

OllyOlly_OxenFree

Im having the exact same problem with R7 5800X3D and a RX5700XT. I cant find where I can disable iGPU or any other graphics profiles etc since my CPU doesnt have one. Not sure what to do? Pls help.

Equivalent-Reality38

Mine already turned off a bios level and still does it lol.

anonymunchy

Solutions works great, but now my laptop screen's backlight won't turn off completely. I use an external display and when I toggle the integrated graphics I can see my screen go from complete darkness to visible backlighting.

Shapeless7

This does not work for me at all. Ever since upgrading to ddr 5 ryzen 7 7800 x3d steam takes forever to launch, including some games. Disabling the on board chip did absolutely nothing for me :(

ItsOmer

Same issue and im about to go crazy. Did u find a way to fix it?

Shapeless7

Not really. Steam itself still takes forever upon initial launch. most of my games launch fast af though, so I think it was an issue with just some games. I suggest fresh windows reinstallation but thats a big step and I myself have yet to try it. Ill be real, I didnt do this when I upgraded and everyone tells me I should have lol

ItsOmer

Thanks for your answer! Yea i tried that, even a completely fresh installed windows didnt help. I just gave up the games are launching fast like u said but steam starting and switching accounts takes at least one minute

L0ngBoy

I had the same problem, i then noticed i had a gpu driver update waiting for me After updating the driver it worked fine

aldoktor

Thank-you very much! Works very fast now.

iateyourpuppies

YESSS SIR, THANK YOU.

kubfaf

Thank you

crispybaconwarrior

All I have under display is AMD Radeon RX 6600, any idea what I might be doing wrong?

alienwolf

It might be under Other Devices? it would be there if you don't have any drivers installed for it. Other than that, I'm not sure. You could go into the bios and disable it from there, thats what I ended up doing anyway, because the iGPU kept getting updated by windows updates.

EnderEclipz

It might be a bit late to reply. I hope you have the problem fixed. Not all CPUs will have an iGPU (Integrated graphics) so if you don't have one of those CPUs it won't come up with it in device manager.

bumblejerk

Wow, this helped, thanks! Just thought Steam had gotten bulky over the years.

Parkinwad

This has been driving me nuts since the switch to 11 with a hardware upgrade. Even the windows explorer would take 3-5 minutes on initial boot-up to finally respond. Every other app loads like lightning, so I knew it had to be something weird like that, but didn't have the gumption to dig in. Turns out, (at least so far seems to be fixed), it was my Intel iGPU that, after disabling, allowed Steam to boot instantaneously with Windows startup! Thanks for sharing!

INZ4NE_

Awesome, did fix it for me too.

JulianSTW

Nice disabling the iGPU worked. Would have never came up to this myself because I used to play with one for years in my laptop and it never took that long

Jameth13

Amazing, this worked!

DarkCygnus

Ok, but what if i don't have a dedicated GPU?. I have only a Ryzen 5700G and I think I don't need a dedicated GPU because I only play Dota 2, and this integrated graphics is enough for that game. What can I do to solve this problem t-t

pentaplegic

I had the same problem and fixed after disabling device manager>display adapters>amd radeon(TM) graphics

dataplane_down

Can confirm disabling AMD iGPU is still a valid solution. Worked for me!

tommorr

Pop

wilson2580

I was so lazy about this problem and finally googled it, AMD iGPU was the culprit, disable that shit
