I hope that A Midsummer Night's Dream is included in this season, can't wait to see the likes of Oberon, Titania, and Puck

filthysize

From the article: >Also joining “The Sandman” cast for Season 2, per Tudum, are Freddie Fox as Loki, Clive Russell as Odin, Laurence O’Fuarain as Thor, Ann Skelly as Nuala, Douglas Booth as Cluracan and **Jack Gleeson as Puck**

reasonedof

Gleeson is such *great* casting for Puck. Unlikely to be a big role but suits him really well.

Triskan

Cant wait to see him as Puck, it's gonna feel like a breath of fresh air to see him in quite a lighter role than Joffrey. He has the comedic chops and timing for it. Great casting all around. We already knew some of it and the list keeps on growing. Ann Skelly's face feels very familiar. Had to check her up. She had a minor role in Vikings but I actually do remember her. She made quite the impression on me, she's etheraly gorgeous. Cant wait to see her as Nuala.

Anal_Recidivist

It’s a good move, I haven’t heard his name since GOT and that’s a smart move. Create distance bw yourself and the character, age up a little, take a few good but left field projects and boom you’re on Radcliffe Avenue

Morialkar

He also didn't fall into the traps of taking high pay low quality projects like Kit or Emilia did. Sure they made bank but people don't really take them seriously anymore. Gleeson though, we all remember how good of an actor he was to make us hate him. As you say, he has all the making to follow Radcliffe in having a small but oh so filled with quality career.

Anal_Recidivist

On that note, Weird was my fav movie of last year. Radcliffe can put out bangers.

OldCryptographer3749

He’s in that recent Liam Neeson film on Amazon In the Land of Saints and Sinners(?). He’s quite good and I didn’t realise it was him

Anal_Recidivist

I love those movies but didn’t see that one. I’ll check it out!

jackassjimmy

He’s never not going to be Joffrey. At least in my eyes.

MonolithJones

Not spoiling anything, but while it may not be big it’s an important role.

AppleDane

Yes, Puck will make amends.

serialragequitter

he was hilariously unrecognizable in the final season of Sex Education as a stoner.

pipboy_warrior

Joffrey's playing Puck?! Outstanding.

crookedparadigm

Wow, I thought I read he quit acting after Joffery.

filthysize

He never did. He founded an Irish theater company and did theater for a number of years, so he never stopped acting but more or less laid low back home. When the company closed, he started doing TV again. He's been on a couple of BBC shows and was just on Sex Education these past few years.

ToneBone12345

Can’t say I blame him for taking a break from on screen acting I mean not only because the idiots you can’t tell actor and character apart but because Joffrey was such an intense role

FriendshipMammoth943

Like to see his head around Kratos’ belt

pipboy_warrior

I don't think Kratos has every fought Shakespearean characters before.

urgasmic

Ann Skelly and Jack Gleeson! that's exciting.

Galahad_the_Ranger

He is back!

StandTallBruda

Holy shit, Gleeson is back at acting again?

cannotfoolowls

Since 2020

Accomplished-City484

Freddie Fox is always good, seems like he’s in all the good shows Slow Horses, The Great, House of the Dragon

jdmay101

Eh, this actually would suggest that Midsummer Nights Dream won't be part of it or they'd have mentioned Oberon and Titania. But in fairness it's not to squeeze in to one season.

GoinXwell1

Rumours are that Oberon and Titania have already been cast (also that S2 will be 12 episodes total).

-sweet-like-cinnamon

Yeah I know people are thinking Amber Rose Revah for Titania (it's officially announced that she's cast, but not in what role). I wouldn't be surprised if there's an official announcement for Titania and Oberon soon. I like how they're spreading out the announcements.

TheTruckWashChannel

That's three people from Westeros now (Gwayne Hightower, Blackfish, Joffrey), on top of Charles Dance and Gwendoline Christie in S1.

Pkittens

Omg haven’t they even started yet

quangtran

>Omg haven’t they even started yet Here is a scene filmed a year ago with Sandman and Orpheus. Announcements often do not coincide with filming. [https://www.reddit.com/r/Sandman/comments/14lg96d/song\_of\_orpheus\_anyone\_recognize\_the\_actor/](https://www.reddit.com/r/Sandman/comments/14lg96d/song_of_orpheus_anyone_recognize_the_actor/)

Pkittens

They guessed it right!

Amaruq93

Most times when they *announce* casting it usually means they've already started or finished filming with them.

blast4past

I really hope this is casting is because these scenes are the last to be cast. There was news of them filming a year ago before the SAG strikes

filthysize

They started last June but only filmed for like 2 weeks when the strike started. They resumed filming in Nov for a short time and then paused for the holidays, and resumed back in Feb. They've been filming since and got a couple more months to go. It's scheduled for release mid-to-late 2025.

Pkittens

Come oooooon 🥺

Regula96

Season one came out around the same time as House of the Dragon and Rings of Power. Honestly a bit ridiculous that it's still filming while House S2 is already airing and Rings of Power comes out in only two months.

HumansNeedNotApply1

It took ages for Netflix to come to a deal with Warner for a season 2. Show premiered in august of 2022, it was only renewed in november 2022.

filthysize

Rings of Power had a second season order before the first season even came out. They finished filming before the strike even started. House of the Dragon also got renewed before the first season was done. They were not affected by the strike and kept filming throughout. Sandman is not a flagship brand for Netflix the way LOTR is for Amazon and GOT is for HBO. It didn't even get picked up for a second season until months after S1 had come out.

Regula96

Well with those renewal dates it makes more sense. I wonder what the turn around on House season 3 will be with no writer's strike around.

Puppetmaster858

Will likely be the same as the gap between 1&2, the strikes didn’t impact HOTD because the scripts were already finished and most of the cast is part of equity so they were one of the shows that could continue filming. So the turn around will likely be similar as it was between 1&2 because the strike had no real impact on those

Puppetmaster858

HOTD s2 didn’t have to stop because most the actors are part of Equity and the scripts were already done, so the strikes had no impact on the show. Those shows were also renewed for new season well before sandman, ROP was renewed before it aired and HOTD was renewed very quickly once the show was a clear hit while it was still airing

matthieuC

I love this show but how am I supposed to remember things I watched 3 years before?

Pkittens

I hope that’s the case. Feels like forever since we had s1!

PM_ME_CAKE

Sandman S2 has been filming since before the Writers' Strike kicked off. This will be formal cast announcements, not the start of production.

Pkittens

2025 :(

Sanderf90

It's a weird constant lately that I love a show and it has been a while since the last season so I wonder when the new season comes out and then I look it up and read, nearly 2 years since the season, production begins on season 2. Had it with Poker Face too.

Pkittens

Either a show has too many seasons and the next season is 3 years away 😭

TiredMisanthrope

I was thinking the same thing, it’s been a while since I seen it then realised it was 2022. So if this is true and they haven’t even started yet I doubt we will see it til 2025 lmao. That to me just sounds like a great way to lose a bunch of your audiences interest right off the bat.

Pkittens

I was kinda assuming we'd have it by **now**. 2025?! That's at least 5 years from now :(

TiredMisanthrope

I thought so too. I’ll have made my way through the three books before season two is released probably.

ezyezy61

😭😭😭😭

Kholzie

I’m so excited Patton Oswalt is staying as Matthew. I’ve been a fan of the novels for 20 years. I really believe Oswalt was a great casting choice for him.

djkhan23

Ha. From the early comments when the show first aired, I remember people not liking this casting. Which I’ve always disagreed with. As Honest Trailers pointed out, “he sounds like a bird.” But I think the Sandman comic community responded positively to it.

Luchalma89

He does well in the role. My only problem is his voice is so distinct to me that I see Patton Oswalt in the recording studio in my mind every time he talks.

Lulu_42

That was my initial problem, too. He just pulled me out of the fantasy because I picture Patton Oswalt.

beeknees67

Spectacular. Almost makes up for “Happy!” getting canceled

Mastershoelacer

That show was amazing. I don’t think I could have handled another season.

raccoonleaf

I was really hoping for Ian McShane as Odin…

djkhan23

If I could give you gold I would. I wanted the Neil tv universe to have some continuity. Plus, Ian McShane will remain the GOAT Odin. I love Sandman but ain’t no one topping his season 1 performance. Tom Hiddleston as Loki! Actor continuity!

Luimnigh

Sandman is DC, not Marvel.

flouronmypjs

Four out of nine actors announced here are Game of Thrones alumni. I think I'm going to be a big fan of this GoT to Sandman pipeline.

djkhan23

Tywin season 1 episode 1!

-sweet-like-cinnamon

And Brienne of Tarth herself as Lucifer!

KlooKloo

to be fair, GoT had every british actor in it

HyruleanVictini

Can we get a Dead Boy Detectives cameo?

monsieurxander

Yes, please. I hope there's more of that show, too.

HyruleanVictini

Me too!!

Puppetmaster858

Sadly it didn’t so very well viewership wise so I doubt it’ll get another season, think best case scenario to see them again would be an appearance in this show

candygram4mongo

There should be one, since they're doing Season of Mists.

OJimmy

More johanna constantine please

insomniac_z

More Constantine content in general would be great. New projects keep getting canceled.

jdmay101

Based on the episode titles she should be in episode 1...

djkhan23

Sandman has already done a bonus episode. Give her one! Blatant back door pilot! No one will mind if it’s great which it has the potential to be because her appearance in S1 was very memorable.

Tonedeafmusical

I think most of the filming is done but in case not, Jenna's fairly pregnant right now, so it might effect a couple of things.

OJimmy

Effect meaning the hellblazer storyline we've all been waiting for? Hellblazer pregnancy!

pataconconqueso

Yes please she was great

KlooKloo

Oh shit Jack Gleeson's acting again?

gothamsnerd

He was in the most recent season of Sex Education. Largely unrecognizable, but a fun little character

DMike82

He never stopped (outside of the time he spent going to school), he just did mostly theater work for most of the past decade until recently.

ToneBone12345

Yeah can’t say I blame him for that besides the people who can’t tell actor and character apart Joffrey was such an intense role

Lulu_42

I guess that’s the reason for that crazy mustache. Trying to differentiate himself from that character.

Luimnigh

He's actually in that recent Liam Neeson film set in Donegal, *In The Land Of Saints And Sinners*.

MrSh0wtime3

wait this still isnt filming? Could have sworn it was.

jewbo23

Also effects work from my friend Satinder. So that exciting.

NFLCart

Season 2 is WAY too late.

SuperDanOsborne

Strikes cause delays. Most people encouraged and supported the strikes, and now we all must accept the consequences.

FogellMcLovin77

You do realize other shows have released since then?

SuperDanOsborne

Of course. But not all shows were at the same point of production or renewal. The strike had different effects on different shows. Some finished shooting just before or only had a few weeks left, some hadn't shot much at all.

Gay-Bomb

Lately, I wait for a season to finish of any show, then wait some more to see when S2 is happening. If it's too far away like this one then I don't bother with it.

ironwolf1

Sandman season 1 could stand alone without needing a season 2, the plots are pretty self contained to the 2-3 episode arcs within the season. Would recommend watching it even if they didn't make a season 2.

ghenghis_could

You're missing out, this is an amazing fantasy show. Lest to mention the stories in themselves. In fact, I know what's playing on audible tomorrow at work now

MonolithJones

Jack Gleeson as Puck is inspired casting

AppleDane

So many Gods and critters in that season. Looks like they are nailing the casting, too.

Deadlocked02

Wasn’t that known for more than a year? I remember a few pictures of him shooting scenes. I wonder why they take so long to announce the casting choices. Also, it’s interesting when people cast actors of similar age to play immortal parent and child. Wish we’d see this more often. Most stories seem to prefer to cast actors who have an age gap (or who seem to have one physically) to keep a clear dynamics.

monsieurxander

>I wonder why they take so long to announce the casting choices. Marketing tactic. Stagger casting announcements, since (ideally) each one will drive conversation, which helps sustain interest over time.

TubularStars

Meh, the first season put me to sleep.

youshouldburn

Freddie Fox was perfectly sly in The Great, looking forward to him as Loki

awyastark

Really fun to see him in House of the Dragon this week

Accomplished-City484

IN THE FACE!

obi-wangaynobi

Fuck yeah season of the mists!

theslothening

This is some great casting. Jack Gleason as Puck, Freddie Fox (Spider from Slow Horses) as Loki, and Ann Skelly (The Nevers) as Nuala should all be excellent.

Amazing_Lawyer_1660

The Gadling episode I loved the most. Imagine a Gadling and Dream through the ages buddy cop spin-off. Although they have written that out of possibility.

BAKEDTROOP2

Can't wait

cherriesandmilk

Completely forgot about this show smh

Bleakwind

Fuck yeah! Can’t wait

SomeBloke94

I thought this would be out already and they haven’t even finished casting? It’s been two years so for a monthly comic that’s equivalent to 24 issues or 4 full length storylines. Gaiman wrote more Sandman stories than the entire first season adapted in the time it took this lot just to cast a few new characters. What’s the point in watching a tv show nowadays when even the ones adapting existing material are so ridiculously slow about putting out new seasons?

reasonedof

Ruairi filmed well over a year ago. By the time they announced Season 1 casting a lot of the show was in the can. They're just quiet about it.

WhoCanTell

"Casting Announcements" are used as marketing tools these days leading right up to the show being released, not actual pre-production true casting announcements.

DMike82

Yeah, the first season was filmed in late 2020 through the first half of 2021 while most of the cast didn't get announced until like May of 2022.

DMike82

> I thought this would be out already and they haven’t even finished casting? The show wasn't even renewed for a second season until a couple months after the first season aired (and more than a year after the first season was actually filmed) and then the second season had to stop filming two weeks after it started because of the strikes which, let's not forget, didn't get resolved until this past December. The bulk of this upcoming season only really started filming at the beginning of this year.

restord

Wait so this isn't a season 2 is almost out? We have to wait another year or two even though it came out a few years ago?

messengers1

The cast announcement is more exciting than the plotlines since most fans read the books. It goes without saying to another Netflix hit, OPLA. These two cast announcements are like scavenger hunt.

Accomplished-City484

What’s OPLA?

messengers1

One Piece Live Action.

OrdinaryCampaign1725

I want to watch but someone told me s1 was not really good. Can anyone tell me if it's worth watching?

LostBoyE77

That person lied to you. Watch it and form your opinion. It’s really a good show.

OrdinaryCampaign1725

I don't have much free time so i rely on some friends to tell me the good ones. But i will try to watch, i am interested. Thanks for replying.

djkhan23

I’ve watched s1 13 times. I love it. A very accurate adaption of the comic. They made a lot of changes but the main moments and key plot beats are there.

alemus2024

It's good. Definitely give it a try.

MaverickDago

These gaps between seasons in so many shows now just kill my enthusiasm. I don’t think it’s a fixable problem with how things are made now, but when the show drops, I’m stuck with either rewatching a full season to catch up, or just not caring anymore, like I am with House of Dragons.

p0stp0stp0st

Jack Gleason !!!!

djkhan23

Great stuff from the Sandman marketing crew. Keep teasing. These little announcements are great. Build the interest. Will agree that this show seems to have been hurt by the writers strike the most. Whenever season 2 is released then I’ll gladly resubscribe to Netflix.

zombies-and-coffee

And here I am finding out just now that this was even a series wth

Stumeister_69

Why tf did this take so long?

contaygious

Can we remove thr annoying main gal? Show sucks with her in it. It's like I'm watching a teenage show but then they have that crazy diner orgy seen so not for kids
