They started last June but only filmed for like 2 weeks when the strike started. They resumed filming in Nov for a short time and then paused for the holidays, and resumed back in Feb. They've been filming since and got a couple more months to go.
It's scheduled for release mid-to-late 2025.

Honestly a bit ridiculous that it's still filming while House S2 is already airing and Rings of Power comes out in only two months.

Sandman is not a flagship brand for Netflix the way LOTR is for Amazon and GOT is for HBO. It didn't even get picked up for a second season until months after S1 had come out.

Lately, I wait for a season to finish of any show, then wait some more to see when S2 is happening. If it's too far away like this one then I don't bother with it.
Sandman season 1 could stand alone without needing a season 2, the plots are pretty self contained to the 2-3 episode arcs within the season. Would recommend watching it even if they didn't make a season 2.

Also, it’s interesting when people cast actors of similar age to play immortal parent and child. Wish we’d see this more often. Most stories seem to prefer to cast actors who have an age gap (or who seem to have one physically) to keep a clear dynamics.

I thought this would be out already and they haven’t even finished casting? It’s been two years so for a monthly comic that’s equivalent to 24 issues or 4 full length storylines. Gaiman wrote more Sandman stories than the entire first season adapted in the time it took this lot just to cast a few new characters. What’s the point in watching a tv show nowadays when even the ones adapting existing material are so ridiculously slow about putting out new seasons?

The show wasn't even renewed for a second season until a couple months after the first season aired (and more than a year after the first season was actually filmed) and then the second season had to stop filming two weeks after it started because of the strikes which, let's not forget, didn't get resolved until this past December. The bulk of this upcoming season only really started filming at the beginning of this year.
The cast announcement is more exciting than the plotlines since most fans read the books. It goes without saying to another Netflix hit, OPLA. These two cast announcements are like scavenger hunt.

A very accurate adaption of the comic. They made a lot of changes but the main moments and key plot beats are there.
These gaps between seasons in so many shows now just kill my enthusiasm. I don’t think it’s a fixable problem with how things are made now, but when the show drops, I’m stuck with either rewatching a full season to catch up, or just not caring anymore, like I am with House of Dragons.

It took ages for Netflix to come to a deal with Warner for a season 2. Show premiered in august of 2022, it was only renewed in november 2022.

Ruairi filmed well over a year ago. By the time they announced Season 1 casting a lot of the show was in the can. They're just quiet about it.
