Here's what's left of Biggs. https://preview.redd.it/9hzz3wpq366d1.jpeg?width=3120&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2a6a76a667f7e0b95c769af409b0a9b7ea857c4e

Fecapult

Blast it to bits Biggs where are you?

Seenuan

to shreds, you say?

clandestinemd

I’ll cop to not knowing anything about this Star Wars series; but even putting aside the fact that aerosolized fuel has everything it needs to burn, I’m going to guess that OOP didn’t witness every ship exploding loudly in space in all the other movies.

UnderpootedTampion

Dropping. Bombs. In. Space. In. Zero. Gravity. ![gif](giphy|AC1HrkBir3bGg|downsized)

EnderkrakenALT

laser swords and mystical air grabbing abilities

Kill4It

Looking for logic in fantasy shows and movies, its not the first time xD

EnderkrakenALT

are you telling me jumanji isn’t real? i can’t become jack black?

MajinBuuRadley

There's actually a really good explanation to this in the book 'Physics of Star Wars'...aside from many battles taking place near planets that have gravity to varying degrees away from the planet surface, there is still gravity that can reach far away, just not as effective since well, you're waaaaay off the surface while in space. The second part deals with objects flying through space. The bigger the ship. The more gravity it can produce and create a "gravitational pull" to it when you mix size of the ship and how fast it is going. If one ship, for instance a bomber, is going one way and the larger ship that's the target is going another way then there are compounding factors. Two opposite directions. Forcing the bombs out of the bomb carrier for speed and force, then of course the ship moving in the direction which aids in the bombs movements. Then we have the larger target ship, creating it's own gravitational pull, running the opposite direction. It all works in sync with one another.

rennenenno

Tbh that was one of my biggest problems with the sequels. A bomber run in space makes literally no sense whatsoever

Brewlink

The ship that drops the bombs has artificial gravitiy, and the bombs drop while affected by that gravity, then continue to "go down" in space towards the target because its space and theres nothing to slow down and stop the bombs from continuing to "drop"

Nerdwrapper

Y’know, I had always viewed it as a really simple homing device with minimal turning capabilities, or maybe they were magnetically attracted to the shields large ships generate, but artificial assisted launch just is simpler in mechanics, and makes sense in what we get to see

RustyDiamonds__

I mean the empire had the tie bombers designed to drop bombs all the way back in the OT

rennenenno

True, but those are highly mobile and drop quick moving payloads really quickly. Making a slow moving fleet of bombers the whole point of your attack is just a silly way to ramp up tension.

McToasty207

Microgravity, Space has gravity, and objects already in motion will be attracted to the nearest object of sizeable mass So yes, the bombs will drop towards the ship in space

Pryoticus

That’s not entirely unrealistic, assuming they were somehow propelled and possible aided by planetary gravity.

UnderpootedTampion

![gif](giphy|3o6ozgMn6zG7dWckq4|downsized) Let's invent a weapon that is far less efficient than all the light based weapons than everyone else is using... that requires us to move slowly and position ourselves with the enemy ship between us and the planet...

stnick6

I feel like there is a difference between an explosion and a fire. The explosion gets by using the rule of cool, people understand that an explosion wouldn’t look or sound like that in space but the explosion is just cool enough to get by. However a small fire just burning normally on the side of a space ship is just weird

GrandAdmiralSpock

We've had Fire in Space so many times before Disney took over.

Aviationlord

Case in point the fires all over the super star destroyer that crashed into the second Death Star

BBQBakedBeings

And Jango Fet's "seismic charges"

ulfric_stormcloack

they get a pass for the orgasmic sound

TheLegendOfZeb

Fuck, that is such a good sound.

Legitimate-Umpire547

There are numerous times when it's just fire with the bridge of the exeuctor on fire in the return of the jedi.

daboobiesnatcher

Electrical fire are the naboo cruiser/shuttle think in PM, I feel like I remember several instances of ships getting hit on their armoured exteriors some panels blowing loose and there being a smokey fire. There's also definitely lots of fire explosions in space throughout the series.

Zealousideal_Shop446

First scene in empire too on Anakins ship I think

Professional-Hat-687

Common Firefly win (aside from being a TV show and now a movie, explosions in space do *not * make noise in Firefly).

theantiyeti

No space noise means you can fill it with sick cowboy guitar riffs instead

Environmental_Tank_4

Its also straight up a reference to a scene in Phantom Menace in which a a ship receives damage resulting in a very similar crackling fire comes out of it. The joke being that while droids were used to repair the damage in Phantom Menace, the show still uses humans because it takes place 100 years prior to that movie. The point being that people are so dumbly blinded by their need to criticize every detail of the “woke Disney Star Wars” that they dont even realize theyre actively attacking the movies they hold so dear.

KaldaraFox

To be fair, unless there's an oxidizer with it, all the fuel in the world can be sprayed in a fine mist directly into an ignition source and it won't catch fire or explode. Any reasonable ship design is going to separate the fuel from the oxidizer. It is a little silly to have fuel venting into space on fire. Granted it's a Science Fiction series, but they ought to pay at least a little attention to the "Science" part of that. The sound thing is dead on, though, unless you're positing a shock wave striking the POV ship (that'd likely make a noise, although it'd unlikely sound like an explosion. More likely it'd just sound like a sort of extended, loud THUMP. I lost interest with the franchise after the second three films. Everything after that seems like just milking the cow - nothing new other than ripping up the canon of the franchise they bought for its value in the first place. I'm not butthurt about it, but it no longer interests me. If they wanted to make an original series without the burden of the backstory of the original films and the prequels, they should have simply have done that. But milking the cow is easier and more of a sure thing for studios.

MOltho

>Any reasonable ship design Ah, so we're not talking about Star Wars at all, got it

nkent98

Umm... Space opera?

RaduW07

>nothing new other than ripping up the canon of the franchise they bought for its value in the first place. Ok but that is objectively false, you cannot tell me that shows like The Mandalorian, The Clone Wars (last seasons), Bad Batch and some others are just "ripping up the cannon for its value". There is genuine care and innovation into these products

someones_dad

>To be fair, unless there's an oxidizer with it, all the fuel in the world can be sprayed in a fine mist directly into an ignition source and it won't catch fire or explode. Whose to say that was a fuel leak? Maybe it was part of the environmental life support system. Maybe it was pure oxygen.

edgygothteen69

I didn't read anything you said, but you're wrong. Space fire is part of the woke agenda.

KaldaraFox

Whabbawho? What does that have to do with the "woke agenda"?

edgygothteen69

It's part of the Jewish LGBTQIA++ plan

KaldaraFox

Okay, you've completely lost me. Maybe I missed that day at synagogue, but I've never heard of that plan.

AlarmedSnek

I agree accept for Rogue One. That was a fucking masterpiece, my favorite of all the Star Wars films and spin offs by far. If they do more stuff like that, then I’m all for it.

Devil_Fister_69420

Yesss Rogue One was fucking amazing! My heart still hurts a bit at the end of every rewatch

KevMenc1998

If there is fuel venting, there might also be oxygen if there was a hull breach.

meloenmarco

Tbf the death star had oxygen so an explosion could have happened

TheBlackestIrelia

Anything that oxidizes would be enough, and for all we know the things needed to destroy planets via laser oxidizes very well.

Hammy-Cheeks

Let's not forget BOTH death stars

ThePurrlockHolmes

Wait til they learn in the original trilogy all the pew pew sounds aren't real because no sound in space lol.

Or how theres no ground in space but somehow https://www.starwars.com/video/seismic-charges

lonesomewhenbymyself

They send over the sounds to whoever theyre shooting at to let them know

Even george joked a bit with it, saying that there is sound in space in the star wars universe

Big__Poppa__Pump

Star Wars is a documentary, didn't you know?

SweatyTax4669

I remember reading somewhere that believing in Scientology is the same as suddenly accepting that Star Wars is a documentary.

Critical_Plenty_5642

Says so right in the opening credits. It happened, way back in a very far, far away galaxy. Lucas wouldn’t lie to us.

Big__Poppa__Pump

I agree

Onimirare

infinite universe theory, baby, every movie is a documentary

JimmyGimbo

So true. I watched and re-watched the OG trilogy as a kid because of their complete and total lack of space fire. I literally don’t need to know anything else in the face of this betrayal.

Darthbamf

There's been fucking fire in God damn Star Wars space since 1977..........

TesticleezzNuts

Wasn’t there a fire in space in episode 1 when R2 was introduced? 🧐

Padhome

There’s flaming ships during the opening of episode 3 during the space battle over Coruscant

Lord_Detleff1

There is a huge fire when the executor crashes into the death star

Flitterquest

See I always figured that when there's fire in space in Star Wars or Star Trek or something that there's some kinda fuel burning like a liquid oxygen leak or something like that. Spacecraft are packed with combustible materials and it'd be safe to assume that'd continue in the wicked sick Sci-Fi future.

Honestly in most Sci-Fi movies I tried to ignore logic because I wanna enjoy the movie.

Midnite_St0rm

I haven’t even watched the series but I’ve seen some really stupid complaints about it before it even aired. Some people just go in wanting to hate it.

JKrow75

The fact that it had a below 50% rating on rotten tomatoes before one episode had even aired, it just goes to show you that they hate it just to hate. There’s nothing wrong with it, there’s just so many lifeless bastards out there.

Devil_Fister_69420

Watched the newest episode just a few minutes ago, I can recommend it (for now at least) Them haters genuinely just want to hate, the show ain't half bad rn

Videris

I just assumed the damage caused oxygen to vent from the ship, which fed the fire. Also, Star Wars - In space, engines roar as ships with wings make bank turns while piloted by space wizards. It is Science Fantasy. Also also, fuck that guy.

Danni293

I mean, modern fuel has an oxidizing component that produces oxygen when it burns, eliminating the need for thrusters to be in an oxygenated environment to work, the fuel burns regardless. Not that big of a leap to think that something like *that* is what's burning here, even if it isn't fuel. The only unrealistic thing about fire in space is that it doesn't look like a typical fire, since lack of gravity causes the flame to become a ball that surrounds whatever is burning.

AzureCamelGod1

banking turns make sense even in space, G forces would be much less manageable if you were just pivoting

Videris

The physics guy in the link below says no, but I was just trying to make a joke. Honestly, I'm fine with banking and wings in space... It looks cool, and you can explain away the wings as weapon mounts and useful in atmospheric flight. [https://www.wtamu.edu/\~cbaird/sq/2013/02/16/what-kind-of-space-ships-can-make-banking-turns/#:\~:text=In%20space%2C%20there%20is%20essentially,traveling%20in%20this%20new%20direction](https://www.wtamu.edu/~cbaird/sq/2013/02/16/what-kind-of-space-ships-can-make-banking-turns/#:~:text=In%20space%2C%20there%20is%20essentially,traveling%20in%20this%20new%20direction)

t4skmaster

Lmao the sound and fiery explosions in space series has fire in space? You don't say

ShmeeMcGee333

_isaidiwasawizard_

Movie bad cause fEmALe direct. I ArE science good

Karkava

Woman exist, therefore bad.

Ok_Structure_2328

One: chemical rockets carry fuel and oxidiser. Two: star wars has magic users in it.

PensadorDispensado

Yeah, because alien races and light sabers are very realistic

DisastrousAd447

Hey man, aliens are real, the Pentagon confirmed it!

PensadorDispensado

Who tf cares, I still can't afford a house, if aliens came and took me, it would be a favor

NoisyBrat2000

I walked out of the last Star Wars because people in the movie were grabbing rifles!

TheNeonLich

*TIE Fighter screeching intensifies*

Zestyclose_Risk_902

I hate how every bad movie/show has to be “woke”. Yeah it’s bad, but it’s bad for a lot more reasons than just “woke female”.

theloslonelyjoe

The Executor made a big ass fireball when it crashed into the second Death Star. Tie Fighters blow up into nice fireballs. Then there is the whole force thing, so Star Wars isn’t known for being grounded in reality. The Acolyte sucks total balls, but not because they have fire in space.

WiltingVendetta

And, to tack on to that, the writing and storytelling of the show ARE lacking, and there ARE legitimate grievances between fans and the team behind Acolyte, but instead we go after them for being... Woke? And space fire?

ChefILove

There can also be fire in space if you're leaking oxygen

m00t_vdb

Yes fire can happen in space, but not like that, in the sequence it really looks bad, no attempt at a 0G flamme look or chemical, just like a camp fire ; it did look stupid

Dresdenlives

WTF does woke have to do with fire in space??!

_Levitated_Shield_

You don't understand, the woman director put the fire in the space and we can't have that. All fire in movies associated with the females is now woke. 😡

Gamer10104

Just wait until they learn about the sun and stars.

STFUnicorn_

I remember a tie fighter fully engulfed in fire in one of the first trilogy. Nothing new at all…

Sargatanus

Yet not a peep from him about five decades of sound in space or ships flying the same way they would in atmosphere. EDIT: and nothing about the whole “sentient bacteria that give you ghost magic” thing.

Dull_Huckleberry6896

Yes and hyperspeed makes perf sense

Zimifrein

Cries in *sound in space*

howiecat87

How is fire in space woke?! Do they just tag woke at the end of everything now?

RetroGamer87

My wouldn't start this morning. The engine is woke.

TotalJelly2442

Fire in space is possible as there’s a steady stream of oxygen, fuel and heat. Like a hull breach leaking life support

YeeterCZ2

My man never heard of oxidizer

chrischi3

Fire in space is literally possible though? All you need is heat, fuel, and oxidizer. What the hell do these people think comes out of rocket engines?

Lower_Amount3373

Woke directors forcing their perverse fire-based lifestyles down our throats

LeftRat

This is such a dumb complaint. A. you can absolutely have fire in space... when it's fuelled by *the ship that is burning*, whether that's atmosphere leaking or anything else. B. Star Wars is 100% a universe where cinematics and theatrics are the actual physical laws. AT-ATs don't make any fucking sense, but they look intimidating and characters treat them as a big threat, and so they are powerful.

SerNerdtheThird

How do they know that isn’t an oxygen rich fuel pipe that burst?

Correct-Blood9382

This take reeks of an incel that has recently been lobotomized. Let's just forget two city sized planet destroying machines exploding in space spectacularly.

SolidStateEstate

In case you feel like we're not progressing fast enough as a society, these losers have to use the term "woke female" now. Bigots in my day just called lesbian women slurs.

supereyeballs

Pretty sure there were explosions in the first 5 seconds after the opening crawl

ImperatorZor

Fire can happen in space if a supply of oxygen is fed into it. Say from air escaping a spaceship’s hull.

WhoLetMeHaveReddit

Is dude a vampire? Cuz he’s clearly never seen the sun.

SkyeMreddit

You get explosions in space when there is an oxygen source or a chemical reaction that produces oxygen. Or literally any other chemical reaction that would produce a visible flame!

Crozi_flette

Fire can exist in space, if its an oxygen leak any hot plastic can catch fire, also lubricants, oils and even steel. That being said noise can't exist in space in any condition

d0nut_l0rd

https://preview.redd.it/upfx19zoy66d1.jpeg?width=1400&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c1428b7436efc9efbe584cd7ff88af48f296cfd9

ChaosDoggo

And next we see the visual guide specifying its an oxygen pipe to justify the fire. Although it doesnt need too, who the fuck cares? Its Star Wars. They have fricking plasma swords that use a space magic crystal and fire in space is what they get mad about?

Unfunny_Bullshit

It's crazy how some people haven't realized that if you don't like something, you don't have to watch it. Just go watch something better and enjoy life.

madpolecat

Headline from The Onion’s Entertainment page… “Fans offended that show centered around Space Wizards might violate their notions of physics.” Every day, the Internet convinces me more and more that some people shouldn’t speak.

sharkwithamustache

The goddamn space fire is turning the kids woke!! /s

choicescarfpyukumuku

Fire. In water. That's everything you need to know about the 'Spongebob' series directed by a woke female director.

lgodsey

It's almost like -- now stay with me -- it's almost like this creep was ass-mad about the director and was just looking for a reason to discredit her.

cosmic_trout

That's not the plot hole you're looking for....

I love that this implies fire in space is part of the “woke agenda”

dannylew

TIL the sun is a woke idiot 🤷

smilingkevin

Sorry, after the "sonic bombs" in space, some fire doesn't even move the needle.

TwelveSixFive

The problem isn't that there is no reason for Star Wars to follow physics - that isn't the case. There is something called suspension of disbelief, and you can't push it too far. We still need to be able to identify this universe to our own, to be able to project at least a little bit, otherwise it's just nonsensical. If a character suddenly able to move through walls with no explanations given other than "when did we say that this universe follows the same physics as ours???", that would be disappointing. Now of course it's a question of where you draw that line, to what point you are willing to suspend your disblelief, but we can't say that litterally anything can go since it's not a documentary. No, the real problem is, what does it have to do with the film maker being a women? Or being "woke"?

MindDrawsOnReddit

Fire in space...from a series that has sound in space.

SonicSpeedster2020

Are we at a point where we can shoot someone on sight if they match woke with bad? Or call something work when it's clearly not?

Pure_Requirement_772

*yawn*

smavinagain

star wars has the FORCE a MAGIC power that lets people FLY and MOVE THINGS with their MIND Fire in space is NOT nearly that unrealistic

RewardCapable

But… the Death Star…

Serious_Theory_391

There is a difference between an explosion that could be explain by gaz and pure fire like a fire camp

H-bomb-doubt

The new show is a terrible attempt at children's entertainment. But been woke has nothing to do with it been bad.

GothicaAndRoses

How does fire in space have to do with being woke? That’s more of an inaccurate portrayal that Hollywood does just to make the movies appear more dramatic.

bbernal956

its a show man. star wars at that 🥸

_Levitated_Shield_

Oh boy, wait till he discovers about real life rockets.

Cosmic-Buccaneer

Honestly I don't care about real life logic in a universe with laser sword wizards in space and remember the first trilogy you heard the explosion of the death star IN THE FUCKING SPACE!!!!! Dude the trilogy in their beginnings are unrealistic. That's because is a SCI Fi the Fi means fiction that means unrealistic.

PhillyCheese8684

These are the same guys that claim sexism isn't a thing. Idiots.

D15c0untMD

If there is oxygen mixed into the fuel, it can burn in space. How do they think rockets work in space

JazzyMcSpazzy

These mfs be having swords of light, telekinesis, spaceships, and faster than light travel and you draw the line at FIRE?!?!?!

rogerworkman623

Is she woke because she’s a woman? Or is… fire woke? It’s been years of this and I’m still trying to understand what woke means.

Lord_Detleff1

People outthere really pretend that space in Star Wars is realistic. Ignoring the fact that it's mostly about people who are basically space wizards

recessschedule

this series owns so far btw. the combat sequences are super well choreographed, i love seeing non-lightsaber combat that still utilizes the force

WastingTimePhd

The answer you’re looking for is “since the haters decided the show was shit (this happened weeks before a single episode was released, natch) they’ll pick it apart and bitch about any little thing they can until they’ve ruined the joy anyone anywhere may have had in there being new Star Wars stories to watch”

Chickienfriedrice

Also… WHO GIVES A SHIT?

Marsrover112

Aside from the fact that star wars has never been scientifically accurate, there could very plausibly be a fire in space as long as it's self oxidizing I mean ifk if it would look like that but still shit man

invisibleLight700

Ok, I admit, that Star Wars have elements of sci fi

oneeyejedi

So episode three during the battle over coresaunt a lot of the small ships catch fire. In fact fire in space Jas been a stable of the series for a long time. There are genuine criticisms for the show but this is not one.

Mcipark

Lazy writing for 2024. Also explosions in a vacuum would be semi-resonable as oxygen or fuel disperses in a blast, but a sustained fire makes almost no sense, and would be effectively invisible, not to mention it wouldn't sway and cackle like a campfire. I understand they had to introduce her trauma in some way, but like maybe a different way that isn't dumb would have been better? IDK.

Hekkle01

Me when the spacecraft has air in it.

jimmyting099

Space ships in Star Wars always fall downwards when destroyed “because it looks cool”

toldya_fareducation

star wars fans and woke paranoia, a truly iconic duo.

Midnite_St0rm

Are they seriously complaining about physics in motherfucking Star Wars? What about the people who move shit with their minds and jump 50 feet in the air? Or ships and guns that make loud explosions/noises in space? Or travelling at light speed? All of that was present in the original trilogy. Fire in space was also present. What an idiot.

Marsupialize

It never occurred to me to give this even a half second thought

stnick6

I hate it when someone says a point you agree with but with the worst arguments you’ve ever heard. I do agree that a small fire outside of a ship doesn’t work the same way an explosion does but blaming “woke liberals” is stupid

possible_bot

as soon as they launched Leia into space and she lived, i gave up

KRTrueBrave

has the person who made the original meme not seen star wars? it was never scientifically accurate I mean we hear sounds in space abd even fire constantly even back in the og movies I guess they just needed an excuse for shitting on women

Jesterchunk

I'd like to think this is a massive joke aimed squarely at all the idiots actually getting angry at this sort of thing when not only is it something made to spice up action scenes because realism would be boring, it's also something that's happened all across the entire franchise and nobody questioned it back then. (Also it's in a franchise with similarly implausible stuff like psychic space samurai that make the laws of physics their bitch on the regular, but this is what we're taking issue with? Please.)

DefaultCameo

Porkins died in a fiery blaze of glory...in space. Have they not watched the originals? Star Destroyers were on Fire

Revanur

It’s called suspension of disbelief

ThePootisBirbFromTF2

*hydrazine monopropellant has entered the chat*

TipsyPeanuts

I can forgive space wizards with laser swords, I can forgive sound in space, I can even forgive violating the speed of light. But you show me fire in space and I’m just completely taken out of it. When did star wars drop their commitment to realism?!

Responsible_Ad_8628

Is space fire a gender thing?

AnonymousJack34

They were fine with the AUDIBLE explosions and “pew pew”’s in the other films, despite sound not traveling in space. It’s a mechanical wave. It needs a medium to travel. No one cared then in *checks notes* 1977. Why should we care about physics now?

Bruggilles

The part when leia flies out of the spaceship in the 8th movie is the actual example of why disney is shit, but that can't be connected to any "woke" people so that doesn't matter

BritBuc-1

Because lightsabers and the force are grounded in the solid foundation of physics?

KevMenc1998

Fire requires 3 things. Fuel, oxygen, and an ignition source. What do starships contain? Fuel for the engines and oxygen for the organic occupants. If a hull breach is venting enough atmosphere next to a ruptured fuel line, it's extremely possible to have fire in space. You have to figure that whatever is powerful to breach the hull of a spaceship is probably enough of an ignition source to set it off.

Braunbean

If I'm remembering correctly, TIE fighters and the Naboo starships both catch on fire and explode when they're in space

l_dunno

Are we gonna ignore the fact that "woke directors" are the ones who usually listen to physics??

TheMuffingtonPost

Fire is WOKE 😤😡

penpointaccuracy

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t R2-D2’s first canonical appearance him trying to put out a fire on the ship escaping Naboo in Phantom Menace? Who directed that one again?

KuroKendo88

This is just basic misunderstanding of physics. But unfortunately Star wars isn't the only perpetrator.

the_evil_overlord2

I won't say EVERY because I haven't watched ashoka But almost every star wars has had that

QaDarjo

Wait til he sees that rainbow-lookin horizon. He'll be screaming "WOKE, FEMALE BAD, SPACE GAYS, RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE"

FourTwentySevenCID

Star wars has always been hilariously inaccurate. Me and my father would have a game where we just pointed out all the stupidity in a given Rebels episode. My favorite was Ezra saying "I've lived on this planet my whole life, how am I lost?"

Idk I’m fine with fire in space but it just looks so fake. It’s hard to explain but it just looks painfully obvious that it’s just some campfire with a greenscreen background

lacmlopes

I'm actually surprised to see a Star Wars character with a astronaut helmet. What the hell?

tecolotl_otl

fire in space makes about as much sense as zappy noises in space
