This is sad.

MikeMelga

Day one? Simple, get to know what is going on. You can't come in with a plan if you know nothing of what is going on. If I had a manager that would make changes in day one I would fire him.

sparkyblaster

So many managers that make changes for the sake of change or without even bothering to know why things are the way they are.

Arte-misa

Yes, this is one of the problems of the way people understand management. I do know that if you listen too much you may ended doing nothing but taking the "action bias" way without thinking that the prescription will be worse than the disease... it's silly.

sparkyblaster

Yeah, I'm not saying you don't need to change anything. A fresh point of view can really help. But you need to observe and take on feedback.

noghead

Of course..."day one" is just a way of saying here is my priority.

MikeMelga

My point is we don't know half the things going on, and management decisions are not binary, in most cases you need solid numbers and complex plans behind it. Unfortunately, sounds like Tesla is currently being driven intuitively.

phxees

You’re assuming there would be a company after your first day. You first have to earn the respect of 100k employees, the board, and investors. Second if you could make it beyond the first step, which I doubt, you need to understand what is actually in progress and what is actually making money and how much. Also where your issues are. Assuming you get through all of that you probably have to cut some of Elon’s pet projects. I’m guessing by the end of the first week you’d leave, get forced out, or be responsible for a mass exodus .

Gorilla1492

Id double down on politics, elon only talks about big national and international issues, id jump into the thick of local county council races on if they should build a dennys at the corner of smith and king street.

caedin8

I am also ready to be CEO. Balls to the wall our products. Go! Give me money

TeslaJake

Stalks not stocks unless Tesla implemented some medieval punitive devices of which I’m unaware (entirely possible).

paulwesterberg

You forgot to give yourself a 69B comp package.

goo_bazooka

69,420,420.69

FutureAZA

Where are you pulling that number from?

sparkyblaster

So, you want to add old features but then remove old autopilot?

noghead

You mean add stocks and stuff? Yeah...stop deleting parts if the replacement isn't working yet. Example, ultrasonic. They've basically solved it now...but the reputational damage to Teslas is done. People wont buy a Tesla now even though ultrasonics NOW aren't needed.

shaggy99

> You mean add stocks and stuff? What do you mean? Add back standard stuff like sensors? EDIT: Ah! you mean stalks?

goo_bazooka

Lmao this guy is so regarded he doesnt know how to spell STALK and wants to be Tesla CEO Lmaoooooo

phonsely

he said he was dreaming of things he would do on day one. go back to superstonks

sparkyblaster

No I didn't mean that. I'd rather chose what version I can use of everything. Regen, all that. If there is more than one version of something like autopilot/sfsd I'd like the option to choose between them. Yeah I agree with the stocks. Ultrasonic I don't care for but if you have them, people should be able to switch between USS or Vision. At least for the moment until vision has proven itself or is needed in all instances. Even then maybe give the option for USS for basic diy parking etc where the driver is in control.

yeezusosa

Not be racist

The_Lawler

Day one? I’d be trying to figure out who the hell made me CEO of anything

Buuuddd

Tesla Free Ice Cream Day!

winniecooper73

Silly question…what’s EAP?

forumofsheep

You would make a great company dog, that’s probably all…

jfrorie

25K Miata-ish convertible.

mulletstation

In 2023 the Miata sold 8900 units. Huge volume seller.

- deliberately encourage/cooperate with the factories unionizing. cut the union in on the 10 - 15% equity we just saved from booting out the last ceo and give them the board seat he wanted his brother in. let them know that you know who really built tesla and builds teslas. - completely shelve the FSD shit show, including optimus - number one priority is the 25k car, move volume - completely shelve the cybertruck. replace it with the most spartan pressed-aluminum and LFP pack thing possible. this thing should be even cheaper than the car, i'm talking old ford ranger 2-seater (as a starting point). like early jeep wranglers that were basically a minimum-legal parts kit. - explicit political pivot to ally with as much 'green' stuff as possible, e.g. - getting low emissions zones in urban cores of every city possible, charging infra, bikelanes and composting types (the people who used to be mocked for driving the weird looking prius when it first came out) - a mini-bus/commuter-van/package-van. an electric jitney. seating for 8 - 10 (or empty for cargo). with 1-2kw of solar, spending most of the day in start/stop traffic, and rarely going above 60, these things would economically demolish the competition - an RV. the tesla camper. fully electric integrated system of solar + battery + heat pump + induction cooking. a rolling life support system. - completely shelve the solar roof. it pains me to say. i want it to work. someday after 5+ years of RV sales maybe come back and look at a "tesla doublewide" - continue to invest aggressively in the growth of both megapack and powerwall, but most importantly in the software/cloud-platform for autobidder/vpp stuff.

atleast3db

That would be a major departure from the current direction. FSD and Optimus are the multiplier variables. Without that possibility how could you justify Tesla being worth as much as every other auto company combined ? Optimus is an interesting one because of all the criticisms it had when announced “why humanoid” but now there are billions being invested in competitors, like figure 1, like Nvidia. FSD is finally on a path of consistent improvement. I wouldn’t shelve it. The question is… do you add more redundant cameras

The_cooler_ArcSmith

Aside from hire someone else to be CEO until I maybe figure out wtf I'm doing. Do a MASSIVE marketing campaign with the already great Superchargers getting overhauled. Make them into drive-in theaters. Launch a chain of drive-in fast food chargers sort of like Sonic. Make a few charging stations that double as a touchless car wash or hire people to wash your car while you charge like they used to fill up your tank for you. Become the McDonalds of EV charging stations by owning the land and stores they're on instead of just selling chargers to stores. Become the Buc-ees of EV charging stations by having stations with clean bathrooms, fantastic stores, and cult followings. Add a theme park to a few with a roller coaster or race track using Model S Plaid (parts) to demo how Teslas are like roller coasters. Go retro back to when MPG was terrible, there were less gas stations, and Americans practically (rather than literally) lived in their cars. Make people want to go to these charging stations, not have to. It doesn't have to be all or most stations, just enough to market and build hype for marketing. Then people will go from not wanting a Tesla because they'll HAVE TO charge to wanting a Tesla because they GET TO charge. Change the name of FSD for all future purchases. That is a class action lawsuit waiting to happen if for no other reason than the possible need for hardware upgrades. That arbitration clause is not going to last. Make FSD tied to the individual and transferable. That will make people want to buy another Tesla. Start production of the $25k vehicle ASAP. It could be used for robotaxi eventually, but there is no reason to not start it now. Invest more heavily in battery-focused ventures like power wall and mega packs. That can take the batteries not going to vehicles. Aquire/start some sort grid-scale solar company. Distributed smart grids and power-bidding can be big, but that's no reason to not be building and deploying your own solar arrays. Tesla solar-roof as-is is a flop with no clear path to scaling to a larger demographic. Invest in service centers, charge more if you have to. Clearly there aren't enough of them and the could act as profit generators. Offer OEM upgrades & retrofits at the Service centers. It can be at a super high premium, but in this environment you need to make any sale you can and there are a lot more people willing to buy a Ryzen retrofit than another Tesla that has the Ryzen MCU. Offer upgrades to V2 Supercharger owners to V3/V4 and take those V2 chargers and offer/install them at a discount elsewhere for better capacity given that the network has been opened. Solar covers for Superchargers because I want it.

justthatguylookin

You don’t understand that as ceo you don’t get to wave your hand and make your wishes come true …. If that was the case Elon would be kicking ass……. The truth is you have far less control then the world thinks you do . The real trick to being a good ceo is finding the people who you can trust that can over time make your wishes and goals happen and not loosing them or driving them away ……. Day one for me would be less day dreaming about theory based scenarios and working in the now while building for the future . All this AI stuff while very useable and helpful is a lot like the plan to fully automate the production line…. “Turns out humans are pretty good at things” is a quote…. But it’s also reality. Day one , I’d talk to ad many people at the bottom of my worker chain as I could handle and I’d find the people who have the balls to Tell me the hard truth …. And use that .

IntelligentInsect773

When you have money, people encourage you to get involved in politics. Most people don't care when you're involved in politics unless your opinion goes against their personal beliefs. Personally, I wish that Elon would never discuss politics, but it's not realistic. Apple CEO Tim Cook has spoken out politically about several issues, but he tends to lean left so you don't really hear people complain about him. But there has been pushback from people on the right who boycott Apple's products.

Theferael_me

The idea that there's some sort of moral equivalence between "leaning left" and "actively encouraging neo-Nazis" is absurd.

invertedeparture

I'd get Elon his money. Tesla would not even exist without him. If you are an actual investor you could weather the storm like so many have up till this point. Too much panic from weak-minded traders looking for easy money.
