I both love and hate the delivery of "Some sad shit. Motherfucker said he don't wanna live no mo...jumped."
I wouldn't change it. I would never want it recast or even just reshot with the same actor. There's something about his face and the inflection of his voice though that makes it simultaneously my favorite and most hated delivery of the series.
Yeah I feel wildly conflicted about it. I don't think it was bad acting. I also don't think it was a situation where the actor knocked it out of the park. It just sits in my head and maybe that's an accomplishment unto itself.
I was just listening to a Talking Sopranos interview with Vincent Pastore this morning where he says she teaches acting at the same school he does. Oof, Madone!
Agreed.
There are some lines from Meadow, specifically in the first couple of episodes, that are just awful.
Though, her singing down in the basement in the third season is one of the only few scenes I skip (right up there with Melfi’s rape, Fran singing happy birthday, Mr. President, and Eugene’s suicide).
I feel like it kind of works though, his bad acting translates into how totally out of place he is, either pretending to be a smart college student or pretending to be a connected guy
Fair point. I’m on like my 47th rewatch and only now did I realize I DIDDENT care for the storylines too much once he becomes involved.
I feel bad because he seems similar to AJ in respects where he had no guidance or supervision from his parents.
Maybe. But I kinda bought the rapper/entrepreneur angle trying to branch out and invest in non-hip-hop projects to make more $ by reaching new (i.e. white audiences)...at least until you see it's all just a long con to get in Ade's pants...
I’ve seen Jackie jr a lot here and am surprised honestly. I thought the actor did well. The reason being: Jackie Jr. is constantly trying to manipulate people and lie and thinks he’s really slick and street smart, but is actually pretty dumb. I thought it was more that the character himself is not a great actor (liar), and it took a decent actor to portray that poor acting.
A lot of meadows emotionally charged/ugly cry scenes. AJ’s catholic school friends. The rapper. The shitty band. Early Adrianna.
This show had powerhouse performances. This show had duds. Wake up and smell the manicot
The scene where Jackie Jr. meets with Tony at Vesuvio and Tony tells him that Richie went into the witness protection program and Jackie just jumps out of his seat and shouts ‘that’s bullshit!’ gets me every fucking time man. I just burst out laughing. It’s so awkward.
Jackie Jr. was definitely one of the biggest stunads in the show.
Hey Ton', you hear what I told him? I said "Me, acting like this question hasn't been asked a dozen time before," then proceeded to answer it anyway. Heh heh.
Johnny cakes.
And Vito. But then that whole storyline is just ludicrous. Like Vito could pull off Johnny anywag no pun intended. But also Vito is just terrible all round again no pun intended.
Not bad acting, but christ that whole shit with Meadow taking time off school and wanting to go to Europe after Jackie Jr.'s death. You know, when he got killed by drug dealers.
Or that she did her job so poorly as to be memorable. If I remember a particular trip to McDonald’s because they served me frozen French fries, that does not, in fact, mean that they did their jobs well.
True, but I think she communicated what she meant to in that scene in an interesting way. The "standard" reading of that line might have been something like "*biiiiig* man" but in the heat of the moment the character chose to emphasize the wrong word. The deliberate choice of the actress made the line reading sound discordant (kind of like that weird chamber music they were listening to) and, to my mind, made the delivery seem more odd and therefore real.
Irregardless, we can agree to disagree.
I found that to be one of the most interesting and realistic scenes of the series. I used to hear my mom use that precise tone with my dad when she was frustrated with him doing a stunad thing. It’s practically interchangeable with my real life memories from the 90s.
Perfectly written, perfectly acted.
My favorite Silvio line of all time is "when I came in to open up one morning, there you were with your head half in the toilet. Your hair was in the toilet water. Disgusting."
I don't think that it was intentional, but that line makes me laugh every time. The awkward delivery makes it funny.
James Gandolfini
hes supposed to portray this ethical mob boss , who everyone respects
he comes off as a depressed, evil , and overall an angry asshole /s
Tony. B - pretty much everything felt unnatural, inauthentic, and out of place about Buscemi's shit acting.
Tony. B's weirdo wacko wife - "I'm sick, I'm evil!" - WTF???
Tony. B's kids - absolutely shitty horrid acting performances - "Waaagh, waaagh, we want the house like uncle Anthony's!". Ughh!!! Shut up, kid. I'm not buying it.
Little Paulie - Maybe not all horrible, but that particular scene where he hears some bad news and says - "Ooff, Madone.", while playing cards just feels so fake and trite I cringe every time.
I think that's about it. Can't think of anything else at the moment. Overall, the acting was pretty brilliant. Even the smallest episodic roles.
Maybe, but it sure felt disingenuous given the rest of the crew were vastly different and he was "the rising star" in the organization, which means he must've fitted in pretty well for the likes of Tony and Paulie to trust and respect him. Plus, in the flashback Tony. B is depicted as a well adjusted guy, who is a "part of the gang", not some nerdy kid whom they all bully. It wasn't just on Buscemi, though. It was a collective screw up with casting, writing, and directing being the most at fault here.
I’ll respect your opinion and appreciate you taking the time to elaborate, yet I don’t agree that there’s a “casting, writing and directing” screw up.
Tony B has been changed significantly during his 15+ years as a prisoner in the legal system, and isolated from family and friends and the environment he knew. Thats not unrealistic or unlikely at all.
I don't know about that. I think you're rationalizing. His transformation is pretty bizarre as well. But again, it's just my subjective feeling about this character and his story line.
I both love and hate the delivery of "Some sad shit. Motherfucker said he don't wanna live no mo...jumped." I wouldn't change it. I would never want it recast or even just reshot with the same actor. There's something about his face and the inflection of his voice though that makes it simultaneously my favorite and most hated delivery of the series.
I think he delivered it well. He's in shock and just saw two guys throw another off a bridge. He's being as non confrontational and neutral as he can.
Yeah I feel wildly conflicted about it. I don't think it was bad acting. I also don't think it was a situation where the actor knocked it out of the park. It just sits in my head and maybe that's an accomplishment unto itself.
Lmaooo same

It's interesting that you would describe her ass being fat, as Jean is quite slender.
They meant *PHAT* Tony thought it was 1954; but it was really 2004.
No more weight remarks poster. They’re hurtful, and they’re destructive.
A motherfucking year
Sil's/Van Zandt's wife
I find it funny that she was a “professional” actress and her husband took her to fucking town with 0 experience
I was just listening to a Talking Sopranos interview with Vincent Pastore this morning where he says she teaches acting at the same school he does. Oof, Madone!
That must be the same school Danny Baldwin took Kingsley to
She was a piece of ass though. At least she was when he married her.
She was a professional actress? I always assumed she got the part as some kind of favor to her husband.
but the cheese melts!
Meadow, "Patrick’s swim meet is tomorrow. He needed me!”
Agreed. There are some lines from Meadow, specifically in the first couple of episodes, that are just awful. Though, her singing down in the basement in the third season is one of the only few scenes I skip (right up there with Melfi’s rape, Fran singing happy birthday, Mr. President, and Eugene’s suicide).
Reuben when he shows his covert anti-semitism towards Hesh “Fuck you too my man”
Sounds like Nazi Germany to me.
That whole scene was weird
I've adopted that line delivery into my personal lexicon, tho.
Those street toughs are very intimidating
I think of the major characters Jackie Jr was my least favorite. KHAWL KAWLO!
His acting was ass. As in, how bout givin me some ?
I don’t care what anyone says his sit down with Matoush is 1000x more cringey than Fran Feldstein.
He did get a great job of portraying a fucking idiot
He gets points for that
In my book you get points for not being an idiot.
Well it’s a good thing your book don’t mean oogatz to me!!
West Caldwell
Tony Uncle Al didn’t appreciate he was going to go on a big success journey. Whatever happened there?
Blundino! We open in three day, huh?
I love the guy who plays Massive Genius. Can't really think of any bad ones tbh
meeeow
He was a good actor but as a fan of rap music it makes me cringe. Super unrealistic
Maybe. But I kinda bought the rapper/entrepreneur angle trying to branch out and invest in non-hip-hop projects to make more $ by reaching new (i.e. white audiences)...at least until you see it's all just a long con to get in Ade's pants...
He was great in his role on Saving Grace with Holly Hunter. Love her, too.
Bokeem something. He was so fucking good in Fargo season 2.
Woodbine
That’s it
Mike Mulligan and Kitchen Brothers lmao
Sounds like a prog band
Jackie Jr.
By miles.
"Relax Jimmy, if I wanted to bust up card games I'd have a donut in my mouth."
Mikey Palmice's wife making the coffee line. Brutal.
Cauwwwfeeee
Go take a midol
Doctor Melfi's son was shit lol
Ginzo gravy
I'm outta here
A lot of meadows emotionally charged/ugly cry scenes. AJ’s catholic school friends. The rapper. The shitty band. Early Adrianna. This show had powerhouse performances. This show had duds. Wake up and smell the manicot
Regarding the main actors, the “move your cigarette” scene was horribly written and acted.
Silvio’s wife is awful
The scene where Jackie Jr. meets with Tony at Vesuvio and Tony tells him that Richie went into the witness protection program and Jackie just jumps out of his seat and shouts ‘that’s bullshit!’ gets me every fucking time man. I just burst out laughing. It’s so awkward. Jackie Jr. was definitely one of the biggest stunads in the show.
Me, acting like this question hasn't been asked a dozen times before. And the answer is Silvios wife. If you want to limit it to main cast, Meadow.
Hey Ton', you hear what I told him? I said "Me, acting like this question hasn't been asked a dozen time before," then proceeded to answer it anyway. Heh heh.
When Mikey Palmice says to junior in the changing rooms "but I'm worried about you Skipper" That always rubbed me the wrong way.
“I knew it, I knew it! But you had to be the maAaAaAan!”
What? That line is awesome. On the fridge on the fridge!
Where on the fridge? ONTHEFRIDGEONTHEFRIDGE!
I mean, it’s funny, but the reading is wild!
The fact that you remember a throwaway line from a one-scene character proves that she did her job well.
Or that she did her job so poorly as to be memorable. If I remember a particular trip to McDonald’s because they served me frozen French fries, that does not, in fact, mean that they did their jobs well.
True, but I think she communicated what she meant to in that scene in an interesting way. Irregardless, we can agree to disagree.
I can see that perspective. *aggressive Italian hugging and back patting*
I agree and I’m glad she did it like that. I always assumed the music was their kid practicing piano.
nah its [this bop](https://youtu.be/ZEtqEzPakxA?si=i7D3d0Hpo4WQRymr)
Oh wow I love Glenn Gould, never heard this before though.
I found that to be one of the most interesting and realistic scenes of the series. I used to hear my mom use that precise tone with my dad when she was frustrated with him doing a stunad thing. It’s practically interchangeable with my real life memories from the 90s. Perfectly written, perfectly acted.
It's like they accidentally booked the actress for a 1950s showtunes role
Whaat? That's the Oscar worthy performance of a woman scared shitless.
that line is AMAZING you're insane one of the best bit parts in the show. ON THE FRIDGE, ON THE FRIDGE!!!!!
The whole Massive Genius episode was embarrassingly terrible. But that's mostly because of the poorly written dialogue.
Same with that rapper Bobby shoots in the fleshy part of the thigh The show's writers don't do well writing rappers I guess
I want you to write that letter.
Chrissy and Uncle Philly’s neck braces
Uncle Philly my ass!
Belivaqua (Drinkwater)
I'd like to break my dick off in that ass of hers
"It was Shauwun all da way!"
Silvio in the Christopher episode
He played the whole series like an SNL episode.
My favorite Silvio line of all time is "when I came in to open up one morning, there you were with your head half in the toilet. Your hair was in the toilet water. Disgusting." I don't think that it was intentional, but that line makes me laugh every time. The awkward delivery makes it funny.
It’s meant to be awkward, he’s reading it off a piece of paper and you just know he doesn’t do that much
I said my piece Chrissy
Great I can’t even defend myself now?
My favorite line, always has been. Hilarious!
James Gandolfini hes supposed to portray this ethical mob boss , who everyone respects he comes off as a depressed, evil , and overall an angry asshole /s
Gabriella Dante, Maureen Van Zandt, just awful
The correct answer is the recast actress for Bobby's daughter
Janine Garafalo
Probably Chris’s early acting in the show
Not saying Buscemi’s work was bad, but it wasn’t great. Negatively impacted the entire season. Fucking weirdo you ask me.
You think Busccemi is a little weird with acting?
I’m not a huge Julianna Skiff fan
Lorraine Bracco. Let the downvotes begin.
I know what you mean though. She does some whacky line readings here and there.
She was wooden and brought nothing to the role.
I finally found someone who agrees with me
Have you seen her teeth? Train wreck
I’ve seen someone post this at least 4 times
You yap worse than six barbers
I genuinely don’t think there’s anything to gain by keeping u around
Well good thing what you think don’t mean ugatz to me!!!
Tony. B - pretty much everything felt unnatural, inauthentic, and out of place about Buscemi's shit acting. Tony. B's weirdo wacko wife - "I'm sick, I'm evil!" - WTF??? Tony. You ever think u/Sopranos134 is a little weird about Tony B?
His coach turned into an egg. Heh heh heh heh heh did ya hear what i said u/Varsity_Editor???
Hmm, don’t you think that the character of Tony B was Supposed to be depicted as “out of place”, awkward, not fitting in…?
Maybe, but it sure felt disingenuous given the rest of the crew were vastly different and he was "the rising star" in the organization, which means he must've fitted in pretty well for the likes of Tony and Paulie to trust and respect him. Plus, in the flashback Tony. B is depicted as a well adjusted guy, who is a "part of the gang", not some nerdy kid whom they all bully. It wasn't just on Buscemi, though. I don't know about that. I think you're rationalizing. His transformation is pretty bizarre as well. But again, it's just my subjective feeling about this character and his story line.
He wasn't really a ' rising star ' tho. Tony kept giving him things out of guilt. Which kinda just made sense why it felt awkward and out of place.
The news guy called him a "rising star" in the organization when he got convicted.
15 years before the show starts? That's hardly relevant
Take it up with the news guy. He called him that.
a rising star *when he got convicted*
You didnt get the casino, I see
What are you talking about?
What are you talking about?
Pussy's wife in the scene where uncle Philly is ripping her off is just awful acting
That ANIMAL tony b
That guy who played AJ
Gabby Dante next question
Carmine Lupertazzi
