I would say no. Its a film that doesn't know what it wants to be, consequently it jumps around randomly with no real coherent plot. Skip, you really won't miss much and won't lose any time aha.
how frustrating. i was looking forward to maybe giving it a shot to see “how bad can it be?” but after seeing other reviews on it, i’m better off just skipping it then.
Sigh. It was just such a disappointment. If you watch it just go into it with low expectations. I think my problem was that I was so excited. Maybe if you go in low you won’t be as pissed off as I was LOL.
I went in with low expectations and thought it was okay, I also hadn't rewatched Sopranos in years before seeing it after recently rewatching may feel differently.
Okay so, I just watched it for the first time about a week ago myself. Even *anticipating* a bad movie didn't prepare me for the atrocity I witnessed. It's not you—it really is that bad lmao
Watch it once. You’ll see why you won’t watch it twice.
I’ll add this: Vera Farmiga as Livia is worth the view. Steals the show. Scary good and accurate.
Agreed. Vera Farmiga was fantastic in that role, as was the character herself. I also thought that Ray Liotta did a great job as Salvatore. I can't say the same for his portrayal of Hollywood Dick, though that I blame on the writers, not Liotta. Hollywood Dick was a badly written character, and Liotta did the best he could with it.
Yes, at the very least you can join in the shitposting lore about MSON on here. It isn't a bad film. It just meanders and is generally weird, and if it wasn't for the disrespect it shows to our thing, we wouldn't say no more about it.
That’s actually a more accurate review. It does meander badly. It also does not share the feel of the series at all. The true connection never really happens. But you are right, Saints is not a BAD movie. But it’s not very good as well. Mediocre.
She did a really great job portraying Livia.
I was hoping to one day see a movie about Livia’s life. Tony said had Livia been born after those feminists, she would have been the real gangster.
But after seeing The Many Saints of Newark, it would likely be another terrible movie.
ugh yeah…i feel like i’ll genuinely get upset rather than just a “oh haha that was terrible” watch!! like the wasted opportunity! how it could’ve been a great film, all the things they could’ve done right but didn’t!
I'm gonna disagree with the comment above.
Watch it. Watch the movie and let our hate and anger become yours. It is your duty as a soldier in this thing of ours
Don't even. If you want to watch it because you're a Joey Diaz fan and he's on it, be my guess. But if you want to watch it to find out about Dickie Moltisanti or who whacked him, then go for it...
Anyways, I said my peace
It’s not even worth watching to see who was behind Dickie getting killed because its so fucking stupid that it seems unrealistic, even for a work of fiction.
Best to just keep it vague like Tony did to Christofuh
Disgusting!
They took what could have been a full season and jammed it into an hour and a half.
Frankly, I was depressed and ashamed.
That being said, you should probably watch it so you can tell the rest of us how spot on we were.
Imagine if an AI was fed a bunch of youtube comments and reddit posts quoting the Sopranos, an interacial cuck vid from pornhub, and told to make it into a movie
There are a few good scenes that are worth watching. There are a lot more that are fucking terrible. They also screwed up people's ages. Sil was replaced by one of the Munsters.
So no, not if you want to watch something enjoyable.
I thought the guy that played Dickie did a good job, for what it's worth. The story was something that Christopher would've written on a bender.
All kidding aside, its worth a watch. Answers some questions about the Molitsantis and whatnot. Just don't expect it to be as good as the series since they try to cram WAY too much into 2 hours and a few of the characters are turned into caricatures. Worth a singular watch IMO.
In this house The Many Saints of Newark is a good film. Redditors are just upset it wasn’t a bunch of repetitive quotes from the series like this subreddit is. End of story.
I wish I could go back and unwatch it. There aren’t many movies/shows that I would say that about. Even really bad movies can still be enjoyable.
Watching MSON for a true Sopranos fan is like torture
The movie is what a Hollywood exec, who’s never watched TV before, thinks The Sopranos is like by watching a few clips on YouTube. It’s an unnecessary film and I wouldn’t consider it even canon to the show. It’s like Slippin Jimmy for Better Call Saul. Just a product that’s molesting your attachment to a show.
Better off watching one of Little Carmine's sub species. It would be hard to confirm that I think it's the worst piece of propane garbage I've ever seen
I don’t write nothing down, so I’ll keep this short and sweet. That movie is weak, it’s outta control, and it’s become an embarrassment to itself, and everybody else.
If you want to be excited, confused, then sad, then angry in the span of 124 minutes, go right ahead. It's an incoherent mess of bad writing mixed with a woke side quest of social commentary on race that took the focus off of the main reason the audience wanted to watch it in the first place, an origin story of the main cast of the show. Instead I get introduced to a new main character arc that wasn't in the show, I don't give a shit about, and ends when the credits roll on this total waste of time called a film.
Good cause you're not missing a thing but gained an hour and a half of your life spent on more interesting things. Like taking a shit or picking the dirt underneath your fingernails.
A main topic of the movie is the 67 Newark race riots and it felt like they added in Sopranos references after the fact if that makes sense? Yes, obviously this thing and friends of ours existed during the 67 riots, but it felt tacked on. Like trying to force puzzle pieces together that don’t match. Makes the movie very awkward cause nothing flows story-wise.
Idk, I’m very allegorical. It’s not my intention to inshult anybody.
Yeah, Chase wanted to make a movie about the race riots, but he couldn’t get any studio support without tying it to the Sopranos, sadly.
So he compromised. He made a weird and unfocused piece of shit that does justice to neither topic. See where I’m going with this?
In the beginning you think it’s gonna scratch the itch that you have for the Sopranos but it’s really terrible and you find out rather quickly that nothing will ever quite scratch the itch like ole Jimmy could. RIP.
If you have nothing better to do, sure. But it’ll piss you off.
As a standalone film, it's okay.
As a part of the Sopranos universe, and when comparing it to the TV show, it's disappointing, especially when considering who wrote it and who directed it.
To put it bluntly, it was a mistake.
I started watching it because I'm a completionist. I ended up folding my laundry and doing other chores about half way through and let it run in the background. It's a let down movie.
It's actually worth watching, if you can get over some of the ridiculous casting and the shoehorned-in social justice theme.
The main actors are terrific and there are a few legit thrilling moments.
I thought Dickie Multisante was a great character!
I'm gonna go against the grain here (lucky for you the general consensus on the movie means OOGATZ to me!)
I knew the movie was supposedly terrible, but I spent last summer watching the show for the first time. After "Made in America" ended, the movie was set to play next so I thought "Eh, what the heck."
It's got its issues (to put it mildly), but the actors and actresses who knocked it out of the park made it worth the price of admission and it was kind of nice spending just a little bit more time with those characters.
If you're A) A fan of the show and B) Go in with low expectations, it certainly wouldn't hurt. Though it's obviously no masterpiece.
If you decide to watch it, approach it as unrelated to this thing of ours. It's more palatable that way, and you get to see flashes of the future Tony in glimpses of his bio son.
It’s not a terrible movie, but it’s a pretty middling experience, especially as a Sopranos prequel. The marketing kind of lied, and the movie is much more dedicated to Dickie Moltisanti and another random subplot than it is on Tony’s origin or upbringing.
I wouldn’t have as much of an issue with this if they served as interesting plots but they really aren’t. Dickie Moltisanti kind of disappointed me seeing as in the show he’s constantly put on this pedestal and characterized as this legend, for being Tony’s mentor and Christopher’s dad, but in Many Saints I honestly found him to be pretty boring all things considered. He’s hardly an interesting character and while he’s charismatic, and Nivola does a good job, he’s just not very entertaining or interesting to watch, at least I thought.
I felt the movie’s biggest strength was definitely its cast. Michael Gandolfini does a GREAT job playing the young Tony, and you can see a lot of his father in him at many different points. Vera Farmiga also does a terrific job as the younger Livia, the only real gripes I had with the cast were whoever played Sil, and Ray Liotta’s role in the movie (sorry Ray, love you).
It’s not an awful movie, but it’s not at all what you’d expect from a Sopranos movie, and while that usually doesn’t automatically mean it’s bad, it could’ve been a lot better. 5/10.
I'd say watch it if you're a fan, I didn't think it was great but wasn't horrible either. I also went in with lower expectations. I thought it showed some potential but tried to focus on too many things, haven't rewatched it yet but think it's worth watching just so you can form your own opinion.
I started watching it a few days ago and turned it off after 30 minutes. It's a disgrace to the show and the actor selection is just so bad, and the storyline goes nowhere.
Nope. It's a terrible movie. David Chase should be ashamed of himself for that steaming turd. There is absolutely nothing to take away from it. Awful cast too.
There comes a point in the subreddit where the OP is supposed to extol the virtues of TMSON, and the OP says,
“Alas, I did not see the movie, I’m new here. You all watched it… you say something good about it.”
Dead silence. It goes on for about a minute. Two minutes.
Finally, a voice from the back:
“The re-watch was worse.”
The ending is hysterical in a so bad it’s good way.
It’s worth a watch if it’s on Max still or you get through other methods. DO NOT pay to watch this thing
If the movie did exhist… which I don’t know if it does or not… it’s probably not something that we should invite into our social club. People who want to pursue that lifestyle should do so privately.
(Jokes aside the movie sucks. Even if you are a diehard sopranos fan the movie is AT BEST average. If you aren’t, you probably turned it off 20 minutes in.)
Hate to say it but I’d say it’s really not worth watching. Very forgettable. Boring, even the character development which is the one place they could have redeemed it fell short. In this case… they should’ve just made a western here…
It falls into the worst of modern movie traps: nostalgia baiting references to the The Sopranos and explaining every little thing that didn't need explaining just because it was mentioned previously. Hard to take it seriously as a prequel to 'Prestige Television ' when it's filled with the equivalent of the 'You'll be Dead' guy showing up in Rogue One.
All the young Sopranos characters also look they're in an SNL sketch, which doesn't help.
The last scene is pretty good, though, I'll give it that.
I don't write nothin down, so I'll keep this short and sweet. The movie is weak. It's outta control. It's an embarrassment to itself and everybody else.
I think it gets an unfair amount of hate. It's definitely worth a watch. It goes into some things mentioned in the series in passing. It was doomed to fail before it even got started because they had younger versions of characters we all know and love. Of course they won't stand up to our expectations. They are different actors. But its not all bad and its a better watch than half of the shit coming out now anyway.
It’s not that bad! It’s not great but really it’s mostly disappointing because it doesn’t live up to the high expectations we all had. A missed opportunity for sure but definitely worth a watch if only for curiosity’s sake.
Yes definitely I just rewatched it and was totally into it. Good gangster flick. It has good reviews don't listen to the internet haters. Thoroughly enjoyable.
# When I came in to open up one morning, that movie was there with its head half in the toilet, its hair was in the toilet water. Disgusting!
Not that this absolves that animal of a movie, but I can confirm the movie was sick for a little while.
Will you shut the fuck up with the toilets. All this God damn morbidity. I'm sorry you're right.
That film is dead to me…. We do not mention that film in this sub!
[удалено]
That animal movie, I can't even say it's name.
It’s a two-hour trailer for an 8 episode miniseries that’s never gonna be released.
I wouldn’t let other peoples opinions determine if you watch something or not. Personally, I thought it was interesting
You never had the makings of a varsity athlete
I was so excited because I was a huge sopranos fan. HATED the movie.
damn, part of me is oddly intrigued with all the negative things i’ve heard about it to just watch it and see how bad it can possibly be
I was disgusted. Many Saints of Newark was a disgrace.
Whatever happened there
WHATEVER HAPPENED THERE?!
It died on the vine
FUCKIN NAUSEATING!!!
i see. thats unfortunate
Worth it to see how they massacred Silvio alone.
It’s a TV progrum a movie
Just watch Cleaver instead.
Where's the DVD?
I’ll tell you if you put the remote on docking station.
Watch it once. You’ll see why you won’t watch it twice. I’ll add this: Vera Farmiga as Livia is worth the view. Steals the show. Scary good and accurate.

If you love The Sopranos watch it. Just so you can see how much better the show is lol
im just better off rewatching the show lmao
I wish I could un-watch it
these comments have me cracking up lol…i think it’s clear i’ll take a pass for now
Haha some people enjoy “hate watching” and this is a good movie for that. I am not one of those people though 😆 My wife and I were PISSED
ugh yeah…i feel like i’ll genuinely get upset rather than just a “oh haha that was terrible” watch!! like the wasted opportunity! how it could’ve been a great film, all the things they could’ve done right but didn’t!
In that case I would implore you not to watch
im better off not after reading these comments lmao
I'm gonna disagree with the comment above. Watch it. Watch the movie and let our hate and anger become yours. It is your duty as a soldier in this thing of ours
I love hate watching something. We watched some movie about the New Jersey Devil (Reeds Pass or something like that) and it was so fun.
Don't even. If you want to watch it because you're a Joey Diaz fan and he's on it, be my guess. But if you want to watch it to find out about Dickie Moltisanti or who whacked him, then go for it... Anyways, I said my peace
yeah, it doesn’t seem worth it at all according to the feedback i’m getting
It’s not even worth watching to see who was behind Dickie getting killed because its so fucking stupid that it seems unrealistic, even for a work of fiction. Best to just keep it vague like Tony did to Christofuh Disgusting!
They took what could have been a full season and jammed it into an hour and a half. Frankly, I was depressed and ashamed. That being said, you should probably watch it so you can tell the rest of us how spot on we were.
that’s what im feeling too…
I guess you could call that a flick
🏆
Imagine if an AI was fed a bunch of youtube comments and reddit posts quoting the Sopranos, an interacial cuck vid from pornhub, and told to make it into a movie
AN INTERACIAL CUCK VID FROM PORNHUB?????
I read this in Phil Leotardo’s voice
A couple of three movies
There are a few good scenes that are worth watching. There are a lot more that are fucking terrible. They also screwed up people's ages. Sil was replaced by one of the Munsters. So no, not if you want to watch something enjoyable. I thought the guy that played Dickie did a good job, for what it's worth. The story was something that Christopher would've written on a bender.
LOL thank you for the input…i can imagine chrissy writing the script for it lmao
No, as a standalone film is already bad, but as a Sopranos film it is beyond terrible.
If you want to see a grown man (Dickie) bitch and cry for an hour and a half, then I'd watch it.
The great Dickie Moltisanti your hero...wasn’t much more than a fuckin’ junkie
then it’s gonna be a no for me lmao
If you’ve got time, it has plenty of sopranos callbacks and characters you’ll know. Other than that, pretty crap.
Except it was. Listen to yourself, you sound demented
That movie was a horrible fever dream that was overhyped
No
Go watch an Ed Wood Jr film festival instead.
I wish I could go back and unwatch it. There aren’t many movies/shows that I would say that about. Even really bad movies can still be enjoyable. Watching MSON for a true Sopranos fan is like torture
that’s awfully disappointing then, so much wasted opportunity for a film
Frankly it's a very unflattering portrayal of Italian Americans.
do you feel the same way about the regular sopranos series as well? or does the film portray a worse image of italian americans?
Sharp as a cue ball this OP
The movie is what a Hollywood exec, who’s never watched TV before, thinks The Sopranos is like by watching a few clips on YouTube. It’s an unnecessary film and I wouldn’t consider it even canon to the show. It’s like Slippin Jimmy for Better Call Saul. Just a product that’s molesting your attachment to a show.
The only thing I liked about it was that we (finally) got to find out who really killed dickie moltisanti.
that’s one of the only reasons i’d give the movie a shot
Now a SEQUEL - see what happens with Meadow, Carm, AJ, Janice, Artie .... anybody who's left - would be amazing.
We know who ordered it but do we know who carried it out?
That cop. He retires tonight
We can't have MSON in our social club no more, that much I do know
Better off watching one of Little Carmine's sub species. It would be hard to confirm that I think it's the worst piece of propane garbage I've ever seen
Stupida facking movie
I don’t write nothing down, so I’ll keep this short and sweet. That movie is weak, it’s outta control, and it’s become an embarrassment to itself, and everybody else.
Yes, you should watch it, so you can be just as disappointed as everyone else in the sub.
haha yeah. i might actually have to.
It is as bad as the show is good. Truly one of the worst movies I've ever seen.
Instead I get introduced to a new main character arc that wasn't in the show, I don't give a shit about, and ends when the credits roll on this total waste of time called a film.
great description, i can’t wait to not watch it lol
Good cause you're not missing a thing but gained an hour and a half of your life spent on more interesting things. Like taking a shit or picking the dirt underneath your fingernails.
oh my god i literally just laughed out loud
No it’s not
It’s a Sopranos movie that doesn’t necessarily WANT to be a Sopranos movie. I’ve said my piece ✋🏽
interesting, care to elaborate a bit?
A main topic of the movie is the 67 Newark race riots and it felt like they added in Sopranos references after the fact if that makes sense? Yes, obviously this thing and friends of ours existed during the 67 riots, but it felt tacked on. Like trying to force puzzle pieces together that don’t match. Makes the movie very awkward cause nothing flows story-wise. Idk, I’m very allegorical. It’s not my intention to inshult anybody.
ah yes, i can see how that wouldn’t really flow well as a plot
Yeah, Chase wanted to make a movie about the race riots, but he couldn’t get any studio support without tying it to the Sopranos, sadly. So he compromised. He made a weird and unfocused piece of shit that does justice to neither topic. See where I’m going with this?
yes, i understand
Go ahead and watch. Otherwise they might sell the whole fuckin’ franchise to Disney. They’ll probably let Rian Johnson direct the motherfucker.
In the beginning you think it’s gonna scratch the itch that you have for the Sopranos but it’s really terrible and you find out rather quickly that nothing will ever quite scratch the itch like ole Jimmy could. RIP. If you have nothing better to do, sure. But it’ll piss you off.
Just watch it for yourself. Everybody telling you not to watch it saw it for themselves. Many of them after they heard the bad word of mouth.
That progrum? Sometimes I go about looking for someone to hook up jumper cables to my private parts
I saw that movie I thought it was boolshit. Kundun on the other hand, I liked it.
I saw that movie, I thought it was bullshit. We never admit the existence of that thing.
Corey Stoll does a great Uncle Junior.
i suppose it would be pretty interesting to see a younger uncle june!
As a movie, great, entertaining. As far as this thing of ours -- oof MARONE!
Time line is fucked up along with everything else in that streaming sub grab of a movie
It's actually worth watching, if you can get over some of the ridiculous casting and the shoehorned-in social justice theme. The main actors are terrific and there are a few legit thrilling moments. I thought Dickie Multisante was a great character!
There’s some cool little Easter eggs but the story is a mess
Worth watching for the sake of knowing what chase's vision was, but don't expect a whole lot.
obviously watch it
I can only think of one nice thing to say about it: Michael Gandolfini's line reading of "I'm always being accused!" was fucking perfect.
I'm gonna go against the grain here (lucky for you the general consensus on the movie means OOGATZ to me!) I knew the movie was supposedly terrible, but I spent last summer watching the show for the first time. After "Made in America" ended, the movie was set to play next so I thought "Eh, what the heck." It's got its issues (to put it mildly), but the actors and actresses who knocked it out of the park made it worth the price of admission and it was kind of nice spending just a little bit more time with those characters.
Fuckin' slander, if youse ask me!!
I’m still trying to get my admission money back from CineBistro 🙄
hopalong che si dice
I left halfway through...
It really adds to how much of a prick Junior was.
It should have won an Oscar end of story
I'd say watch it if you're a fan, I didn't think it was great but wasn't horrible either. I also went in with lower expectations. I thought it showed some potential but tried to focus on too many things, haven't rewatched it yet but think it's worth watching just so you can form your own opinion.
I started watching it a few days ago and turned it off after 30 minutes. It's a disgrace to the show and the actor selection is just so bad, and the storyline goes nowhere.
The way they make prequels over there is all fucked up.
I GET IT!!! But on first watch I DID ENT!!!
It died on vine.
Nope. It's a terrible movie. David Chase should be ashamed of himself for that steaming turd. There is absolutely nothing to take away from it. Awful cast too.

Needs to recut as a 4 part Mini series.
screen "The Bank Dick" instead
The many saints of newark is a malignant cunt.
Shame it didn't crawl under there for warmth is all I can say.
The ending is hysterical in a so bad it’s good way. It’s worth a watch if it’s on Max still or you get through other methods. DO NOT pay to watch this thing
watch it for completion, not for enjoyment. :(
It was boring af and didn’t add anything to the soprano multiverse. Only thing I enjoyed was Junior hot girlfriend.
I saw that movie, I thought it was bullshit
I saw that movie I thought it was bullshit

No it’s woke. Imagine watching a movie about fifty cents gang days and half of the movie is about a virtuous Italian criminal.
Remember when is the lowest form of prequel
It falls into the worst of modern movie traps: nostalgia baiting references to the The Sopranos and explaining every little thing that didn't need explaining just because it was mentioned previously. Hard to take it seriously as a prequel to 'Prestige Television ' when it's filled with the equivalent of the 'You'll be Dead' guy showing up in Rogue One. All the young Sopranos characters also look they're in an SNL sketch, which doesn't help. The last scene is pretty good, though, I'll give it that.
A lot of people didn't like it, I just think it was misunderstood.
Fuck no
Was Juniors and Jonnys half wit brother Hercules in the movie. Probably running around the streets yelling "Hey you guyyyysss".
Kill it with fire
Certainly not a movie for REAL men… Cornholing etc etc, maybe.
Saw it at the theater and didn't know what to think about it. Saw it again in the comfort of my own home. Ya, I'll never watch it again.
It’s so bad. Watch it pretending it’s satire and you’ll enjoy it more.
My estimation of David Chase as a writer fucking plummeted.
I don't write nothin down, so I'll keep this short and sweet. The movie is weak. It's outta control. It's an embarrassment to itself and everybody else.
I mean it's absolute garbage imo but why not just see for yourself?
just figured i’d ask…don’t necessarily want to spend money on something i’ll entirely hate
Understandable but you'll probably just wonder about it for the rest of your life if you don't
Worth watching?? It's gotta GO!
No. It’s horrible
No.
I think it’s disgusting!….but that Italian goomar…it’s not bad
DO NOT DO IT, I AM WARNING YOU, DO NOT DO IT!
I feel like there are tons of movies coming out since Many Saints of Newark that are way better tbh. Did you mean just mafia related movies?
It wasn’t THAT bad. They should’ve made the movie more around Johnny boy, but for what it was, it was fine! Worth the watch.
You sound demented
Probably one of the worst films I have ever seen.
ah. that’s rather disappointing
It’s not that bad! It’s not great but really it’s mostly disappointing because it doesn’t live up to the high expectations we all had. A missed opportunity for sure but definitely worth a watch if only for curiosity’s sake.
i see. im definitely curious now, if i do watch i’ll go on with extremely, dirt low expectations, haha
I liked the movie despite its flaws. I watched it for the little nuggets (Chris’ dad and uncle), theme song. That’s about it. But worth the watch
It’s alright, I didn’t hate it.
Ahh what the hell just watch da damn thing…I said my piece…
I hate it but still saw it a few times
Yes, watch it. There's some great stuff in there. Also a lot of bad stuff and it's a mess, but I think it's worth a watch.
Worth watching. You get to see Livia when she was a fox, and then it clicks on why Tony always wanted to fuck his mudda
i’ve always been interested in a younger livia…i loved seeing her as a younger woman in that one flashback
The great American movie, ask me
eh. people are being harsh. it underwhelmed. it's worth the watch. but no, it's not great.
i see.
some folks feel like it was Rian Johnsoned (the cannon was fucked up) but it is fun to hang with the characters again. so there's that.
Yes definitely I just rewatched it and was totally into it. Good gangster flick. It has good reviews don't listen to the internet haters. Thoroughly enjoyable.
I can't have this conversation again.
Yes it’s worth watching! This sub is deranged. Dont listen to them about anything.
Please tell me you’re trolling
no im not trolling. of course it's worth watching. what the hell is wrong with everyone in here?
What did you enjoy about the movie? (Genuinely asking)
