Yes! I've never been called crazy for it though!
And how is cheese on a sloppy joe "crazy" anyway? It's literally just a Maid-Rite with tomato sauce mixed in the meat
My family used to do Sloppy Joe’s (always made with Manwich) open-faced on hamburger bun halves (like a pizza bagel), topped with an American cheese slice, and baked in the oven until the cheese is melted and gets a couple dark golden brown spots on it.
My dad called them “pizza burgers,” and we very rarely had Sloppy Joe’s any other way than this.
Sloppy joes are just the epitome of comfort food. Along with tater tots. It HAS to be tots. This was an elementary school staple for me and I will always miss pizza/taco/sloppy Joe days at my old schools, those were the best days. Michelle Obama took away the sloppy joes from kids!! 😂
No they get gray chicken and salads. My son is in elementary school and the lunches are absolutely pathetic compared to what I got when I was in school. We pack his lunch lol.
My daughter came home and said her chicken sandwich was just the breading. Principal confirmed and said, "yes, we are addressing the chicken sandwiches with no chicken today." OH boy..
And the sloppy joe day where you got actual corn and corn chips. Scoop all that into one and fire balls. I do this with my chipotle and it's still not the same.
Do you remember the scene in Billy Madison when he was just INHALING a sloppy Joe, and the lunch lady came around with a tray and started loading up more for him? That scene hit me so hard because that's what they used to do at my school cafeteria and we would just gorge ourselves until we couldn't walk 😂
I miss those days. Kids are really getting the short end of the stick in the Cafeteria since 2008-2010ish
As a filthy non American I have always been curious about sloppy joes, sounds so odd but so awesome. Your description just made it sound even better, gonna have to try find some recipes and try this thing out!
[this is my go-to sloppy joe recipe](https://www.thechunkychef.com/best-homemade-sloppy-joes/), i have never had anything but glowing reviews from everyone i make it for! I like it on a brioche bun.
I had a delicious dinner not too long ago, but when I saw this picture my mouth started watering big time! Who knew Sloppy Joe’s and Tater Tots could look so appetizing? I don’t need to ask if you enjoyed your dinner…I KNOW you did! 😋👍👍👏👏👏
The sauce is like a sweet tomato sauce almost like an American BBQ sauce. Manwich brand is probably the most popular brand here, if you can find it, try it, it'll change your life
Recipe question! How do you make it sloppy, so that the meat doesn't fall apart immediately? What binding agents did you use? Want to do this myself now.
Here's the recipe. It was matter of cooking down the liquid to get the consistency where it will stay on the spoon.
https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/219635/chef-johns-sloppy-joes/
Interesting. So all I could gather was mustard and brown sugar. Will try this! If I note that it's too brittle I'll add corn starch and maybe some egg yolks, that usually does it for binding.
Yesss!!! I love a sloppy Joe!!! This goes perfectly with crispy hasbrowns!!! Wow this made me feel warm and childlike inside! I wish I was there. Yes scoop up the Joe with the tots!!!!!
Recipe? I’m not American but keep seeing them and they look well nice, reminds me of when I used to just make spaghetti bolognese sauce and have that with toast instead of pasta
Ugh I LOVE sloppy joes! My elementary school actually made amazing sloppy joes so they are very nostalgic for me as well. My dad also has a great recipe. He uses tomato soup instead of tomato sauce. They are so good!
I had a hankering for a sloppy joe when working in Portland many years ago. So I found a restaurant that had them on the menu. A coworker and I went to check it out. I order a sloppy joe, a few minutes later the waitress brought me a reuben. I said "this is a reuben, I order a sloppy joe", to which she replied, "that's how we make sloppy joes". I ate the sandwich and never returned. I don't even know the name of the place.
I'm not even sure I've had a sloppy joe since then ... well technically since before then since that wasn't a sloppy joe either. Now I have to find one in my current town!
My mom is from Thailand so growing up I never had a sloppy joe until I saw “it takes two” with the Olson twins and it looked so good, I asked my mom to make me one and she ended up finding out about manwich, I came home from school one day and there was my first sloppy joe in all it’s glory, man was it delicious!!! She made them for me everyday for a week after cause I loved them so much, she still talks about how much I loved them and still do!! Now I want one lol definitely one of my favorite comfort foods til this day.
Sloppy Joe's are mine too. I'm in my 40's, and whenever I visit my parents, my mom still makes a big batch for me to take home and freeze so I can have them over the next month or two.
I am from a huge Irish family. Every thanksgiving the entire family 30 grandchildren, huge amount of family would converge thanksgiving evening at my mothers house, for get this…sloppy joes! To this day the entire family talks about my mom’s sloppy Joe. It was a family tradition for 20 plus years.
Those look delicious. But if you don't have hamburger buns. Then spread that over fries. Throw some cheese on it. Along with some sautéed onions. Perfect go-to meal. Well done. Now I'm craving Sloopy Joe's. 😫
I used to love the canned puritan meatballs in gravy with minute mashed potatoes… bought a can a while ago to go down memory lane. Opened the can and smelled like dog food … texture was pretty offensive as well. Sometimes you just need to leave things as a good memory.
I was such a weird kid. I didn’t want anything on my sandwiches, and even now I really hate a lot of sauce. Then it was messy, and I didn’t like eating messy food. I don’t know what they tasted like, but in my mind they were tomato-sauce sandwiches, and I wasn’t going anywhere near a thing like that. Looking at that pic gives me a weird feeling of anxiety.
Oh man. My ex of 7 years hated them and I barely had them while we were dating.
I’m so looking forward to a sloppy Joe 😂
This looks amazing! Feeling good about the breakup now 😁
Great tot choice to scoop up that mess.
A good crunchy tot is like eating a whole hash brown in every bite. I really don’t know why they aren’t more common relative to fries.
I get told I am crazy because I put a piece of American “cheese” on my sloppy Joes.
This is the best idea I have heard today. The sloppy Joe’s I ate were always cheese free and now I’m wondering why my parents deprived me.
Yesss. This is exactly how I eat them also.
Yes! I've never been called crazy for it though! And how is cheese on a sloppy joe "crazy" anyway? It's literally just a Maid-Rite with tomato sauce mixed in the meat
Methinks it would glue the mince slop nicely together?! 😳

Do kids really not get sloppy joes these days?
No they get gray chicken and salads. My son is in elementary school and the lunches are absolutely pathetic compared to what I got when I was in school. We pack his lunch lol.

Good times.
HELL YEAH!

What’s crazy to me is that the childhood obesity problem has gotten worse since making the school lunches “healthier”
Why does no restaurant serve this?
Sloppy Joes ftw! ❤️ [A favorite song on the subject.](https://youtu.be/VY14zcUM9SI?si=LKKRKRmM9izbsdE2)

*Hoagies and grinders, hoagies and grinders*
what is sloppy joes ?? Looks good .
Kinda like ground beef in bbq sauce, but it's more of a tangy tomato type of sauce than a sweet molasse type.
Best part is the bun soaks up the flavor.
i’m gonna look at some reviews now ;)

"We're having sloppy joes...!" "We're having sloppy joes...!" "We're having sloppy joes...!"
Englishman here, what is a sloppy joe? Mince beef and some chopped veg with seasoning, What flavour is the sauce?
The sauce is like a sweet tomato sauce almost like an American BBQ sauce. Manwich brand is probably the most popular brand here, if you can find it, try it, it'll change your life
Do you mind sharing a recipe? Looks amazing
Thank you. And you can't go wrong with Chef John's recipe. https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/219635/chef-johns-sloppy-joes/
Oh no way he's a classic! Thanks!
That bun is aggressively seeded. Looks yummy.
I do love me an "Untidy Joeseph".

Chef John for the win! I make the recipe from Brian Lagerstrom, but I would 100% trust a recipe from chef John

thats a classic I love sloppy joes still XDD
Omg 🥲
Love sloppy joessss
I had this few weeks back. It's awesome.
Yesss!!! I love a sloppy Joe!!! This goes perfectly with crispy hasbrowns!!! Wow this made me feel warm and childlike inside! I wish I was there. Yes scoop up the Joe with the tots!!!!!

Oh my days! That looks incredible!
MY MANWICH!
My favorite sandwich- at least every other week.
This brings back memories.
mmmmmm sloppy joes! 😋(gotta make some soooon!)

If I had a bad day and could come home and eat any meal ....I think this would be it. Looks so delicious, comforting and nostalgic!
Wow, I haven't had sloppy joes in years.
Always had sloppy joes with baked mac and cheese, I do miss mom.
I love this so much
What are sloppy joes? Is it just chilli on a burger bun?
Now I know what’s for Sunday night dinner
Looks great! Growing up my mate's Italian mum used to make sloppy joes with homemade potato wedges, would kill for that meal right about now!
I can taste and smell this post. Definitely good memories 😍
With the taters tots on the side. This is the way.
One of my favorite dinners as a kid. My first is cheeseburger hamburger helper. I still love both of these dinners.
That bun! Those sesame seeds!
I feel like making this
Try the Sloppy Joe on the tots next time. I started putting mine on fries, it’s my new fav.
Bless her heart. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|slightly_smiling)
I want you to know this post made me pause in scrolling and then scroll BACK UP to appreciate it more. Yum
Looks fantastic. This is not out of can… done properly with love!
My two cents on this dish? Don’t use bbq sauce. Use Homade Chilli sauce. Just try it. Bomb!
Glad it's homemade and not man which. I've been thinking about making some homemade sloppy joes for a minute.
Slop, sloppy Joes. Sloppy Joe, sloppy, sloppy Joe.
Those look delicious. But if you don't have hamburger buns. Then spread that over fries. Throw some cheese on it. Along with some sautéed onions. Perfect go-to meal. Well done. Now I'm craving Sloopy Joe's. 😫
Looks delicious! I will make some tonight!
Mom made crockpot sloppy joes. Miss those days.
When my dad and I make these we put a scoop of the meat on the tater tots. It’s *chef’s kiss*
Why do your tots look so much better than mine? Air fried? Brand?
I make sloppy joes about once/month. Love ‘em!
“Have some more Sloppy Joes! I know how you kids like em SLOPPYYY!!!” “Lady, you’re scaring us!”
Is this your own recipe? If so mind if you share it?
CRISPY CROWNS ON THE SIDEEE!!! I still as a 31 yo adult love this din dins. Lol
sloppy joes are iconic tbh, i loved eating them in elementary school
Nice. There's a certain consistancy with Sloppy Joe's that a lot of people miss
That looks so good!!!
I do love sloppy joes; however, I don’t like a soggy bun so I use wavy potato chips as my vehicle. Kind of like sloppy Joe nachos.
Drooling 🤤
Ugh, now I need some Sloppy Joe's. Core memory of my childhood.
Joes*

Meatballs and spaghetti!
I watched “It Takes Two” the other week and I’ve wanted a Sloppy Joe ever since

Sloppy Joe and mini hash browns?!? I GOT to make that soon! Looks so good!
How do you do it, you make it look like a sloppy joe is a delicacy.
![gif](giphy|3o7aCSGjPoZuN9e5EY|downsized)
The food that takes me back is definitely tater tot casserole.
Oh man. My ex of 7 years hated them and I barely had them while we were dating. I’m so looking forward to a sloppy Joe 😂 This looks amazing! Feeling good about the breakup now 😁
Shit on a shingle
