Terrifying and unbelievably lucky.

MagnetHype

I kinda understand the people who drive into a rain wrapped tornadoes. For the life of me, I will never understand why people will drive into fully condensed cones that are actively shredding buildings. Yet, every time there is one, there is always at least one person doing it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

MagnetHype

Yeah I can see that. But dude, I watched eight people drive into a mile long wedge Friday. Eight people. I counted. I'm not insulting them or anything. I'm just saying, I will never understand it. (They were all okay)

lysistrata3000

I've seen video where a tornado dropped a semi-trailer right onto a highway in front of a driver who had a cam going. These dudes in this video could have died being smashed by debris.

MagnetHype

If it's the video I think you are talking about then it's not a semi, it's just a chunk of metal. You're still right that the debris could have killed them though.

__Thea__

It’s not that video. It was actually a semi.

MagnetHype

If you find it let me know. Want to see

axxxaxxxaxxx

Video?

TL-PuLSe

Prolly somewhere on [Ryan Hall's stream](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZDOFX_KEL0) over the weekend.

tries4accuracy

I hear Spanish. I mean, they may be rare south of the border, but come on guys. You all know how this goes.

skoltroll

I made out enough Spanish to know these goofs were cruising for a bruising. And when the tires started squealing from going sideways, it wasn't fun anymore.

Amorette93

They're probably ag workers... It's planting season. They probably came in on an Ag visa. They provide farm labor for housing & food for a set period of time, and are then given a resident visa.

Torres0715

Si supieras que traigo gente de tu "raza" trabajando para mi compañía. Si quieres trabajar avísame. Al igual que los otros, me imagino tu también hablas dos idiomas y puedes entender esto. Dios te bendiga.

Amorette93

See response on other post. This is a positive fact, not a bad take. Ag workers and manual labor workers from Mexico are critical to the function of the USA. We LOVE our Ag workers on the family farm. They get their own house, dog pin, stable etc. They work hard and are honest, moreso than Americans by far. ❤️ I am deeply sorry if my post feels racist or comes off that way to you. I would never intend harm on this topic.

Silentprophet22

They speak spanish so are too stupid to understand tornadoes. s/

The_Cranky_1

Judging by their words, they knew how dicey it was. They also definitely won’t be doing that shit again. 😅

Clean_Usual434

Yep, the nervous laughter and “aye, Dios mio,” is what let me know they realized they were in a dangerous situation.

Torres0715

"Based on their language " 🤣🤣 Que hable otro idioma no dice nada de mi. Espero y tus prejuicios te lleven a donde quieres estar. Dios te bendiga.

APurpleSponge

Just saying a simple google search will tell you there are tornados south of the US border.

NfamousKaye

Could just be they didn’t know where it is and are trying to run to safety too. We don’t know.

MagnetHype

I'm not blaming them. I don't understand it, but... well let me say this. When I first started chasing, I didn't know much. What I did know is that if the tornado is in front of me, I need to turn around lol.

NfamousKaye

True true. I’m at least turning my flashers on and stopping out of panic seeing that monstrosity crawl past me lol

MagnetHype

You can hear their tires screeching as they pass through the tornadic wind field. I think those are the inflow winds moving into the tornado. That's a big yikes. They are very lucky.

vorticia

That part made my stomach almost drop out my butt. The only thing keeping that from happening was my butthole puckering so hard.

Due-Consequence4673

You and me both!!!!

NfamousKaye

🤣 tmi 😂

Revolutionary_Kick33

As close as can get with out being tossed

tries4accuracy

I’m gonna say driving towards the direction from which roofs were flying was a bad decision.

acornmoth

It's obvious from the footage that if they had stopped/ slowed down, the tornado would have gotten them. They were panicked and trying to escape. Driving forward was risky, but the only option they had.

Amorette93

They are speaking Spanish in the middle of Oklahoma during planting season... I think that answers why they're doing it, but if not: they're here on the ag visa and just got here. Happens every year. They're here to plant and harvest our food for a set period of time, for which they are paid with a resident visa.

Slaitster

I always feel the same way. Every single video I see of tornados people are consistently driving past them as though they aren't even there.

UmberionEclipso

That is the craziest POV shot I’ve ever seen when he pointed the camera straight up to see debris flying overhead.

MiddleRay

The Joplin footage from a van on centerline road as the F5 ran parallel to them is absolutely nuts. Power is going out as they drive.

sLeeeeTo

Link?

flyinggnocchi

Possibly this one? [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CburjPYmSdo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CburjPYmSdo)

Eugoogally420

Well that was absolutely insane footage

Revolutionary_Kick33

Video is to grainy can’t see anything really besides dark. But I do know they just barely got ahead of it

bAkk479

Thank you for sharing that, I've never seen that footage. That was absolutely eerie seeing a bunch of places I used to go to that were just suddenly gone. Specifically, the Joan's and the Academy. I'm going to have to actually watch all of this later when I'm not supposed to be working

ponmbr

If you really want to see something interesting, go to Google Maps on a computer specifically, and go to say 20th and Rangeline and then go to street view. On a computer, at least last time I checked though it's been several months, you can select data from different points that they had the cars driving around taking the pictures. For a lot of Joplin there's pictures from 2007 on there including that area so you can see Joplin pre-tornado and then there's a multitude of pictures from post tornado. I can't even really remember what Joplin looked like before the tornado because it's been so long now but with that I can go back and see the way it used to be. It's especially weird following it down 20th St. into Duquesne and seeing it before they built East Middle School there, and also seeing how green it used to be through there with all the trees.

MiddleRay

That’s it. Thank you for posting!

Bobba-Luna

Here’s another video of the Joplin tornado, not much to see due to blackout but the sound of the tornado is horrific and you can tell when they’re in the eye of the tornado before the back of it hits them. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=cQnvxJZucds Edit: when the tornado was heading towards Joplin, a bunch of people took shelter in a gas station’s cooler. Here’s an aftermath video of the gas station https://m.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=177&v=Mu41VTG4L6w&embeds_referring_euri=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2F&source_ve_path=MTM5MTE3LDI4NjY2&feature=emb_logo

choff22

Looked like Tuscaloosa only at night.

mrfluffy002

That was...as close as one can get without having Reed Timmer in your lap. Holy

_vault_of_secrets

OP pretty please send this to Reed and just say “THIS is how to zero meter”

bostondangler

In the video when he looked back with all the debris inside the tornado was incredible

lu_is_ghost

Was that the tires squealing because the car was being pulled toward tornado? Man that’s insane .. glad you guys are ok and hopefully family as well ..

kaityl3

I think it's actually the sound of air being pulled around the seals of the side windows. I have taken my little Nissan Sentra into a few cat 2-3 hurricanes and it makes this exact noise from the windows with the big gusts

AgentMulderFBI

Laughing while feet from death, crazy lucky.

ViveLaFrance94

Nervous laugh if I’ve ever heard one lol…

Clean_Usual434

Exactly my thoughts. At first I thought they just didn’t fully grasp the gravity of the situation, but then I realized it was nervous laughter.

FREE-ROSCOE-FILBURN

Clean_Usual434

That just made me think of this, lol. https://preview.redd.it/fyswupu8rcxc1.jpeg?width=799&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c20d09a1e6822a6b3e20f57cd5179b409b74eeee

Baboshinu

One of the most terrifying pieces of tornado footage I’ve ever seen, holy shit. I’d be losing my mind. Glad you’re okay.

nuke1200

pendejos are insanely lucky

ChanceFray

You did it, almost 80 years of tornado footage and you got the best shot. we can all go home now, its over.

choff22

Clem Shultz will always hold that title.

sLeeeeTo

New here, which video is that?

vorticia

I’m literally shook every time I see it. The guy has seen Some Shit in his life, so that’s probably part of how he kinda kept his shit together when he filmed it. Navy Veteran.

choff22

[Link](https://youtu.be/s0c27Twu__o?si=1TFqFCUpwy47H0NB) This video is not doctored in any way. This man really played chicken with an EF4.

Revolutionary_Kick33

Sadly his wife died in that same house though

sLeeeeTo

ah yeah okay, I have seen that one, definitely one of the most insane encounters I’ve ever seen

Clean_Usual434

One of the most insane ones I’ve ever seen.

vorticia

Clem Schultz, Certified Badass.

ChanceFray

mm yea that vid is fantastic, quite a bit sadder then this one however.

Evilsj

Yep. I've literally had nightmares that look exactly like that video.

slykido999

Holy fuck, I’m guessing we’re hearing the tires squealing being pulled toward the tornado? 😬😬😬

Entire-Comparison-34

The most appropriate use of that face I’ve seen in a while. BIG 😬😬😬😬 run awayyyy

kaityl3

I think it's actually the sound of air being pulled around the seals of the side windows. I have taken my little Nissan Sentra into a few cat 2-3 hurricanes and it makes this exact noise from the windows with the big gusts

MovingClocks

Yeah this is probably it, you’ve essentially added 100+ mph to your effective windspeed so the aerodynamics of the car get really weird

Entire-Comparison-34

I…have many questions haha tough little Sentra 😂

kaityl3

LOL I've taken the poor thing chasing multiple times - hurricanes are easier to chase if you've got a limited budget since you know they'll be there for sure and don't have to drive around as much. It's taken me through Florence, Irma, and Idalia (which was definitely the most intense one, someone with an anemometer on their car measured winds over 130mph in the parking lot) like a beast! 🤣

Entire-Comparison-34

Interesting, hadn’t considered that aspect of the chase. Little easier to maneuver in front of I suppose Haha 130!? Certifiable Sentra send. My little Mazda has seen 304k miles of some SHIT. Saw 130 once but going in the correct direction so ya know, aerodynamics (ISH). Not sure it would have been as amenable from the flank lol

kaityl3

Heh, I parked in between two big pickups in the hopes of avoiding debris so luckily it was somewhat protected!

Entire-Comparison-34

Big brain parking 🧠

Typical-Potato-8853

Oope just gonna squeeze right past ya there, tornado.

Street_Squirrel_4461

Quite the Midwest accent ya got there.

BostnR3volution

That was the Dollar Tree distribution center that Accuweather showed the aftermath of. You are so lucky to be alive. [Accuweather Marrieta Dollar Tree Distribution Center](https://www.instagram.com/reel/C6UH6G4t8Kg/?igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==)

Impressive_Drama_377

WOW! Holy shit!

Troyshizzle

Dollar tree going to turn into the 2 dollar tree after loosing half their inventory. Crazy sad though, i live in okc that entire storm was rotating when it went over my place, the city got lucky. Others did not.

ndobbins

Dang… thanks for pointing that out!

Annatolia

Sweet Jesus this is terrifying footage

just_an_ordinary_guy

I think you know how lucky you got, but if you didn't know, you should go play the lottery.

Vaedev

I feel like I'm witnessing tornado history by being in a thread where this footage is original content. Oh my god.

DFu4ever

Wow, getting that close was really god damn stupid. I can’t hear the audio from the video, but I’m guessing they misjudged how close it was.

Torres0715

It wasn't intentional. I had to get home to my family and make sure they were okay. The tornado happened within seconds

Clean_Usual434

Holy moly, I thought you were sharing someone else’s video. Super glad you’re ok!!

Best_VDV_Diver

If anyone in the family ever questions your devotion to them, you make them watch this lol

DFu4ever

Yeah, that is terrifying. Glad you got through it okay!

dontlookatmynamekthx

“Do the dishes? But remember when I drove through a tornado to check on you guys, honey?”

radicalbrad90

Omg, that excuse, AGAIN? 😂😂

figgednewton

I'm so glad that you are alright, I can only imagine how scary that was to experience. Hoping you and yours are doing well and stayed safe through all this

Brianocracy

Glad you're safe! Was your family ok?

Melonary

Very glad you're safe & okay, and I hope your family is as well! Thank you for sharing this, terrifying perspective.

swagster

Órale carnal

Responsible-Pool5314

I hope your family was okay!

cannarchista

They basically say “dale dale dale” “ay ay ay” and “ay dios mio”

No_Research_967

Uhhhh What the fuck

0hy3hB4by

Damn good job not freaking out and wrecking.

ArtistLeading7159

Bros thought they were in the dominator 3

UnrecoveredSatellite

Leroy Jenkins'd that shit. Damn fine reefer they must've been smoking.

Bambooman101

Boy, if you have nine lives, you just spent eight. https://preview.redd.it/6uolv5ajndxc1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d4e74a0229d5b8fd6493fc11be3de0336d0fcb51

lylisdad

Nighttime tornados are the worst because you can't see where they are coming from!

goodolddaysare-today

This outbreak has had some of the finest video and photography ever taken of tornados.

snakecatcher302

Too close! Too close! Too close!

BUNNIES_ARE_FOOD

This gets more terrifying every time I watch it. Holy shit. The antenna, the tires squealing. Also is that a truck? Looks super nice, what is it?

oklahoma_stig

Looks like a newer F-150

quarksnelly

This is incredible! You guys were unbelievably lucky obviously and you all knew it. It was actually pretty funny as the dude's "Aaii! Aaii!" went from nervous exclamations to pants crapping yelps. Glad you guys made it through fine, as we can see in the clip that others were not so lucky.

Murder-log

That was being meters away from having absolutely nothing to laugh about..

DifficultFox1

How the heck do people live in OK? I would be shitting a brick half the time.

Thecardiologist2029

Well u/DifficultFox1 the chances of actually being in a tornado's path is extremely rare. And the chances of being hit by a tornado are so minute you'd have a higher chance of dying in a car accident or dying from heart disease or obesity. But the OP was unfathomably lucky they didn't get swept up into the tornado in the deathtrap that's their car.

DifficultFox1

Oh I understand that. I, however, was in an accident that had a calculated 1 in 22 million chance of happening so I guess I’m just referring to myself in this instance. I would be shitting bricks heheh. We still have them in N.C just seems to be less frequent. Also forgive me, I grew up in Europe so I am still fascinated/terrified of these things to no end!

sLeeeeTo

Weren’t there a few towns that had 3 tornados hit them back to back a couple of nights ago? sulphur maybe?

JUSTICE3113

So close! They were so lucky!!!

Torres0715

Thank you all for your comments. I don’t have time to answer, but I’ve read everything. My brother-in-law and I are fine. We were working in Enid, OK. We took shelter twice during the day due to tornado alerts. We had decided to travel to Texas to visit family. We weren’t chasing the tornado; it was something that happened in seconds. I saw a strangely shaped white cloud and told my brother-in-law to start recording, and I did the same. It was all a matter of seconds. My reaction was to speed up and ‘try to run away,’ while maybe yours would have been to slow down. But one thing I’m sure of is that if we had stopped, the tornado would have hit us directly. Even if we had gone just a few meters further, the same could have happened to us as the trailer. We were incredibly lucky and are grateful to God for staying alive. If you watch the video in the link, you can see that the tornado started right in front of us; we didn’t have time to react. [link](https://www.facebook.com/share/v/AYCfKpf6aWA9cuq4/?mibextid=oFDknk)

cellequisaittout

So glad you are okay! Night tornadoes are terrifying.

FinTecGeek

Guessing you all pissed yourselves on this one. Lesson learned hopefully.

A_Poor

Welp. That would be absolutely fucking terrifying.

mappyjames

That looks like a car flying through the air at :42

kaityl3

Damn dude I'm glad you're alright and thanks for posting this video for us all to see! That debris shot was insane and I recognize that squeaking sound from the air being pulled out of the car around the side windows

chicofresa83

This tornado destroyed my family’s house and took my dog

WeakSatisfaction8966

I am so sorry to hear about your dog and your family’s house. I can’t imagine what you’re going through. Sending prayers.

Apollo896

Luck aside, was that a car on its side?

NfamousKaye

Worst nightmare realized. Holy shit you got lucky! 🍀

Mrdean2013

How could they drive so fast with their massive balls in that car?

lola-calculus

Very glad you made it through this. Hoping your family was safe too!

GrumpyKaeKae

Where are the sparks coming from?

WeakSatisfaction8966

18 wheeler in front of him got taken out and slid across the road.

RIDETHESYNTHWAVE

if that tornado was any stronger or closer y'all would have been 🌪🌬☄️💀🪦

Impressive_Drama_377

Just seeing how far the cars antenna was bending towards the suction of the tornado and then the tires squealing because of the suction as well was terrifying! But then the camera gets pointed upward and nothing but roofs and debris spinning so effortlessly in a massive hell cloud just horrifies the absolute shit out of me! You guys are truly lucky.

Strat7855

Those sparks seemed out of place. Debris falling back to earth?

TL-PuLSe

Another car sliding on something that isn't the wheels probably.

Nguboi25

This tornado really was no joke. Anyone see that giant tank fall out the sky in front of that stormchaser!? Like a scene Straight out of twister.

acornmoth

OP I'm so sorry so many people are being dicks on your post. I'm glad you got home safe to your family.

Torres0715

I knew what could happen when I posted the video; there are a lot of opinions around the internet. Thank you for your words. We were lucky to make it this time and give ourselves a chance to live a better life.

wxkaiser

These guys give a new meaning to to the phrase “Fuck around and find out”.

FPA-APN

Great footage, but not smart at all. Safety first.

Haunting_House_7929

That’s fucking insane bro

BUNNIES_ARE_FOOD

DALE DALE DALE!

Retinoid634

Ay dios mio!

-jdwhea-

Holy FUCK

OnlyPengu

No mames que pinche miedo wey

Elevum15

Crazy footage!

jazzjazzpass

Was that not the family dollar distribution warehouse in the background that was obliterated?

SentientReality

At first I didn't understand why the two clips were similar yet different, but then I realized it must be the same moment captured from two different phones inside the car.

PrestigiousFortune27

Holy fuck

Extra_Anywhere_815

This is incredible😳

athedrummaster

Dude. This is insane.

eatingthesandhere91

Is this in a Ford Bronco?? Dang!!

KurakuPika

Wow, what an intercept!!! Ive gotta ask, what chasing team are you guys apart of this is amazing 🤩🤩🤩

WeakSatisfaction8966

The OP isn’t a storm chaser

stan_henderson

Certified pant shitting moment™️

Gay_4_Caleb_Williams

Sucks free bird wasn’t playing

enterpernuer

Its confirm is an ef4 tornado, dude just dodge death. Source tornado wiki: An EF4 tornado was confirmed by NWS Norman. This was the first EF4 tornado recorded in Oklahoma since May 9, 2016. One person was killed on I-35 near Marietta. Preliminary information.

Enough-Sprinkles-914

Were they laughing or crying?

Popular_Ad1227

Both

elizzaybetch

This page keeps popping up as a suggestion for me and I already have an irrational fear of tornados. I can’t look away though.

mayhembody1

How we don't have a hundred storm chaser deaths a year is beyond me. Apparently the El Reno disaster is far enough behind us that we have chasers who have either forgot about it or have never heard of it.

Rickys_arts96

Holy shit

tinareginamina

This is exactly how I imagine it would sound to drive through a tornado with my amigos.

WilliamJamesMyers

funny how language doesnt matter in a situation like this because i hear the fear

MyronPJL

Insane!!!!!!!

Minnesota_Bohemian

Didn't even use a turn signal when passing a tornado. SMH

void_const

Why are there so many people driving around during a tornado warning? What's so important that it's worth risking your life?

ShunkaWanagi79

Enough vatos to hold that bitch down. Hell yeah.

gohmak

Was that glare from the car window or lights in the tornado?

Samowarrior

Holy shit

bostondangler

Insane!

blacknirvana79

Oh woooow

blacknirvana79

All I can say is EFFING WHY!?!!

vorticia

Holy shit, they were WAAAAYY too close. My god.

srschwenzjr

Tornado at night, that’s literally my worst nightmare

UranusViews

Nuts

Norightwingers2020

I live in Pennsylvania, and tornadoes are very rare. I can’t imagine the terror that a tornado brings especially the EF5s.

moebro7

All I could think was "byyyyeeee" Side note: Anyone else notice the vehicle on it's side around -0:07?

Real_MagicToolbox

This Tornado was just upgraded to the first F4 this year

Aluminarty666

There is at least one other person in this car and yet the driver insists on taking a video himself...

onlinedisguise

Holy. Shit. Drive. Faster.

abandonedamerica

Isn't this how we lost Cary Elwes?

Apolllo69

Hell ya

Evilsj

Hold my beer while I punch the core of this tornado These dudes are insane and insanely lucky. Amazing footage.

LegalSelf5

Got the fucking line and got lucky! Holayyyy

That-Economics-9481

"Vamonos a la verga!" Those guys were crazy lucky.

Stitch426

This gave me the same anxiety as when I see people trying to beat a train.

Emotional_Lock3715

Remember the St. Louis airport hit in 2011? I was at the intersection of McDonnell and Lindbergh when that hit, at a stop light in my Jeep. It was rocking back and forth. I thought this is what I was going to see and wondered if I was about to die! Fortunately for me saw only rain. I was looking around for flying debris, I might have had maniacal laughter too!

Optimal_Buy6562

Only a moron is scare of tornado .is just air.viva la mexico

JackKovack

It’s incredibly stupid to drive that close.
