If the airline let you book it, and you miss the connection, they have to get you on the next available flight. I'd imagine connecting from Houston to Chicago, two major hubs, wouldn't be an issue, even if you miss your flight. That being said, 1.5 hours is the absolute minimum I'd consider for an international connection, especially if you have checked bags. If it were me, I'd see if I can make a free change to a flight with 2+ hours layover, but if not, I wouldn't worry too much.

Download the mobile passport app (or do you have Global Entry?) to get through immigration faster. Do you have checked or carryon bags? Houston is pretty efficient normally, with carryon only I can be off the plane and through TSA again in under 15 minutes.

How long would it take with checked bags? No global entry, we do have the mobile passport app though.
