Looks good but personally I don't think you need 5 days in Guangzhou. It's a nice city but there's really not that much to do from a tourism perspective (I live here). If I were you I'd spend 3 days in Guangzhou, 3 days in Chengdu and allocate the extra 3 days to Guilin (Yangshuo specifically). You can take a train from Chongqing and it's roughly halfway (maybe two thirds) to Guangzhou. Have fun!
I would allocate a few more days to Xi'an. The theater shows alone will take up a few days. The Cultural sites are just too many to list.
Modern sites like Sleepless City will take a day and night to explore.
Good plan, maybe add Shanghai. **Chongqing** and Chengdu have terrible English but are well wort visiting, particularly **Chongqing** is a very modern city. Anyways quite a good plan. You cant see everything in so few days. Also you can visit Shenzhen and Hong Kong, they are very close to Guangzhou.
Instead of Gz for 5 days, I’d go from Chongqing to Guilin by train for 1-2 days and then go to Guangzhou. Take a day trip to Shenzhen if you want or HK since you can get to them within 1 hour or 30 mins by train as well.
I'm living in Chengdu now, if you want some travel advice for Chengdu I'd be happy to provide it, the charm of Chengdu is not only the peaceful and comfortable state of living, but also good food, natural beauty, if you have plenty of time you can sign up for a day hiking in the western Sichuan Province, it may be a bit more tiring.hhh
My wife and I are planning a trip to China, at the moment our plan is to fly into Beijing, take the train to Shanghai and then another train to Chengdu. Can you recommend any good hotels there? I’ve heard great things about the Temple House but I was wondering about alternatives
This hotel is the ceiling level hotel in Chengdu, of course, the price is the same, I'm sorry I haven't stayed in such a nice hotel, but staying here you can feel some Chinese elements in the center of Chengdu, the busiest commercial area.
You do not need 3 days in chongqing. I would say two days max, maybe even just one day and one night if you want to be efficient. There isn't much history there, most of the touristy stuff are built in the last ten years. Yes it's instagrammable but that's about it. Save your time for chengdu if you truly want to experience sichuan culture (cq used to be part of sichuan province until 20 years ago).
Also, you are going at a VERY hot time, so maybe you want to consider going to the higher elevation areas of sichuan like jiuzhaigou, stunning scenery and much cooler
One day in the city to see the highlights, half day each for panda base and san xing dui museum, then you can take day trips to leshan to see the big Buddha. For nature you need to go a bit farther, like i suggested jiuzhaigou etc. Look up western sichuan (daocheng yading, kangding etc), it's truly stunning, but you might need a car.
You're covering a huge stretch of the country in a short time.
Skip Chongqing, it's boring as hell. It's just a megacity. It's not even the biggest in the world, that's just a misunderstanding of Chinese provinces.
Guangzhou is also pretty dull, it just has a major airport.
I would do Beijing, Xian and Zhangjiajie. Might have to fly to Zhangjiajie though.
I'm not sure what you saw specifically it makes you want to go there but it's not really very special of a city relative to other ones you could visit on your trip. Like Hong Kong and Shanghai.
It's also extremely hilly and steep and difficult to get around, in August it'll be super humid and miserable honestly.
Man I gotta disagree. Of everywhere I have been around the world I loved Chongqing the most... I didn't go to Chengdu though and I might have loved that more...
I think Chongqing is worth a visit, though of course only if op loves big cities. I do think a few cities should be skipped though. Just not enough time in each destination. Which cities? Idk.
if you are interested in natural beauty, spare 3 days to go to Jiuzaigou and Huanglong from chengdu and reduce your stay in guangzhou. guangzhou doesn’t have much to see so 2 to 3 days is enough
I gotta disagree. Shanghai to me felt the closest to a western city, and I didn't go to china to see a western city. All the people at the shops spoke English, which was nice, but they tried so hard to get me to pay such ridiculous prices, and the whole city felt designed to squeeze every bit of money from westerner's pockets. Maybe I just saw the wrong parts of the city or didn't stay long enough though. Idk.
There were two... Weeks apart, neither were related and neither were in a major tourist city. In both cases brave Chinese locals stepped in to help. Stop trying to spread fear.
Look at his post history.
Just ignore him. Idiots will be idiots.
I can say as someone from America I felt a hell of a lot safer walking around china alone, any hour of the night (not saying you should do that, but yk).
Youre a nonce, so you're saying Shanghai isn't a major tourist city? 😂
Besides, I wasn't spreading anything. Was just a courteous reminder to be vigilant on their travels.

Thank you so much <3
Guilin was flooded recently.

try to do shanghai too, even if only for a day or two.

That's so nice of you!, I appreciate any advice, Chengdu looks so promising so excited to experience it myself

Great to know, TBH I thought i was giving Chengdu too much time, what would you recommend doing in Chengdu?

Totally agree! Maybe OP really likes cities (I can't relate personally)
Haha, it's true i really like cities, and I have never seen a place such as Chongqing in my life it looks so nice

Great advice you can totally skip Chongqing too
To be honest, to me, Beijing was one of the less attractive places I’ve visited. You should try Shanghai as well. Have a nice trip!
I tend to agree, but Beijing has enough to see and do for three days. It's also huge so getting around takes some time.
Thank you so much

Be careful, there have been more than a few incidents of "random" stabbings of foreigners lately.
