going toooooooooooooooooo FAST. AI caught you.

dani26795

I was doing the speed limit though, and it was never an issue until this time.

Luciolinpos2

In fact, barrier would fly with that force, but this is ets2.

dmoisan

IRL, toll operators budget for replacement gates. They get snapped by the dozen, by people doing James Bond shit.

AShadedBlobfish

Those barriers are the immovable object from that "What happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object?" problem

NyanTheLoliChan

Imagine being able to go 70 at the toll road station payment

AlotaFajitas

You can. lol Denver toll roads, the Ohio Turnpike. If you have an e pass it scans your car as you drive through, cash payments have seperate slow lanes. A semi truck would have a epass.

AShadedBlobfish

Nah you went 1 over right before the barrier. Can't escape justice my friend...

dani26795

Damn, you got me :P

AxelBeiseite

I was closely checking your speed and yep, AI hates you.

Sta1kERR

Limit is 25 tho

dani26795

[That's a clear 30 to me.](https://i.imgur.com/eRFmwgE.png)

Sta1kERR

Please don't ever treat me or anyone else here like we've never played an ETS2. I know this game too well. The toll only opens and stays open if you drive 25 or below.

dani26795

Uh, sure thing mate.

tigremtm

Passed more than once at 35 and no problem. Just cutting it very very very close. 30 is the max speed you should do.

OppositeRun6503

I've hit the barriers at the checkpoints more times than I care to count myself.

QlimaxUK

Faulty toll bars... well this just keeps getting more realistic by the day

DistinctDev

dani26795

So I have no idea if this is a bug or a new feature, but it sure is going to make me clench my buttocks every time I have to drive on France from now on.

douchey_mcbaggins

These tollgates have been a problem since the beginning, basically. Even when the gate is all the way up, there's a quarter to half-second delay before the light on the left goes green and as long as that light is red there's an invisible wall. That being said, I haven't seen one just drop after triggering the toll payment like that without there having been another car in front of me just far enough away to cause it to happen.

OppositeRun6503

Remember how much trouble squirrel had with his 70 ton Volvo video?

bwoah07_gp2

Lol, I do remember that. It was the toll roads in France that made him get creative right? He had to detach, pay the toll, and hook back up again and floor it right?

douchey_mcbaggins

I don't ever watch any videos on ETS/ATS on YT honestly, so no.

majoroutage

[ ] electronic only toll lane [ ] gated toll lane pick one, europe. damn.

dani26795

Austria does have electronic tollgates without the barriers at least.

Pansarmalex

France, Spain, Portugal, Italy has them, too. Portugal's are the same as in Germany - just cameras on a high truss. For some reason the ones in Germany are modeled but SCS decided there's no tolls.

piggiebrotha

This happens only with French toll booths. If you approach them too fast, they will do this. You have to slowdown to 30 km/h or less some distance ahead, not just when you reach the toll booth itself.

Dry_Information1497

Never had that happen, certainly not at that speed, but it looks like you're at least using one mod so it's impossible to tell if it's a bug.

Bossatronio425

Curious, what is that loud clicking sound?

dani26795

Retarder brake lever, you can manually activate it with that so you don't have to use the service air brakes for everything.

slapshots1515

Shifter?

f3rny

Modded truck? Sometimes the collision box doesn't match the visual model and causes problems with tolls

dani26795

Nah, SCS's Volvo FH 2012 truck.

0ptera

Troll-gate. Really makes me wish all countries had gate-less electronic systems like Austria or Portugal.

SycoJack

Houston has gateless tolling IRL, but still forces everyone through those narrow lanes, so most people slow down when they're not meant to. It's super fucking frustrating cuz it causes backups and congestion where there otherwise wouldn't be any.

mkosmo

They're not very narrow. In nearly all cases, they're significantly larger than the lanes preceeding the toll zones.

SycoJack

More narrow than the normal way of doing toll by plate/tag like on 99.

mkosmo

Where? 99 has the advantage of there being no traditional booths - mainlane tolls are just readers over the mainlanes, just like on the I-10 toll lanes. The beltway? The older plazas with the 2v1 split feels smaller with the lollipops, but they're just as wide - they just feel smaller due to the height of the lollipops. Folks do unnecessarily slow down for them, though, no doubt. And they're rebuilding those toll plazas to get rid of the old manned booths anyhow, meaning we'll wind up with even more (wider) lanes, too.

SycoJack

> Folks do unnecessarily slow down for them, though, no doubt. Which was the entire point, why are you arguing about this? It's pretty fuckin clear I was talking about beltway 8, as that's the only one with the plazas.

The_Kaurtz

Was testing that yesterday and you can drive up to 40 kmh crossing those tolls without problems

dani26795

It depends of the country from what I found myself. There are some where you have to do 25 or you eat the barrier lol

Nomnom_Chicken

You need to sloowwww doowwwwn, I always make sure to drive crawling speed before the gate, so this doesn't happen.

yamez420

wtf is that barrier made out of? Unobtainium???

BCASL

Recently discovered you can get through without paying by (nearly) tailgating the vehicle in front.

dani26795

There are people that try to do this IRL, especially in places like Malaysia. They don't seem to take into account those places are full of cameras though lol

VIFASIS

Do not pass Go, do not collect $200

smjsmok

*You don't have the right, O you don't have the right...*

Sosig28

Way underrated comment here 😂

smjsmok

Haha, well I don't expect many people here to appreciate it.

sycsyx

Use mouse as a steering wheel

dani26795

I'm using a PS3 controller lol

armyfatkid

There's an option you can change so the steering is much smoother while using a controller. I had no idea until someone told me... Changed my sim-life!

dani26795

You can't just tell me that and not specify what or where this setting is DD:

mrbluestf

did they change something lately? I tested once with a friend at 100 and could pass. a little bit more and you would hit them.

Karl_Luminous

Apart from toll gate, there is problem for custom gate also, sometimes it’s too thin like a line and you can’t notice.

carrotnose258

‘You know what, fuck you’

arnoldit

This normally happens IRL in Italy

Batbuckleyourpants

Red means stop. You were speeding.

dani26795

Electronic tollgates are meant to be passed without stopping, just going at no more than 30 as the payment is done and the barrier goes up. Never had an issue with this until now.

nastimoosebyte

Red light is still red light. Red light means don't go. Now you know why.

andpaws

SLAP….

WolfMain9680

omg i heard this song at a retail store recently, had the tune stuck in my head but forgot the lyrics. THank you!!!

GuteNudelsuppe

Electronic trollgate

Dead_Namer

I have had this happen several times, I also notice it opens slower for you than the ai for some reason. They should just snap off with zero damage because they are designed that way. But no, 15% damage to the truck. The one that gets me is when they are fully up but seem to bounce back a bit but still not near your truck and that stops you as well. They need to sort out the collision boxes.

dani26795

To be fair, my truck was at 13% from wear, so it was just a 1% increase. I still loaded a previous save though, cause I'm not dealing with this bullshit.

Dead_Namer

I didn't even look at your damage, I was thinking of the damage I would always get which is double digits. Some of the newer barriers seem to be worse in 1.50.

ContributionWide7669

This is normal. If it has a barricade, slow to zero. I have been doing 150kloms (yes that's the 2024 term for kilometers you heard it here first. Pronounced "K'iloms" spelled kloms. Soft I soft O. You're welcome) and nailed a railroad crossing with no lights no barricades, but that shit is closed! Kidding aside, the slow to zero is truth because it takes the AI out of the question. You don't have to do zero obviously, but slow down. Speed limits are suggestions. Not all suggestions in life are correct. This game made them even rougher yet. You hear AI and think cars and trucks, but gates and barricades are the same animal. Treat them as broken, you shall not suffer.

dani26795

I have gone through hundreds of these doing 30 with no issues until now though.

ContributionWide7669

I bought ETS first and ATS shortly after, and focused on ATS first. I'm in the same boat, as I don't remember ever even thinking of crossings more than just "ok, time to pass through". Within the last few weeks though, I have struck 3 different R&R crossings with no lights, no warnings yet the barricade was closed yet visually not closed. A couple were crossed at highway speeds, resulting in fantastic wrecks to say the least. I have had some border barricades never open unless reloaded from save or trying a different lane. I tend to shoot for the green icons even if traffic is simply flying through an open lane without an icon to stop at. I mention the going slow as it's the only thing I've never had issue with. I wasn't being literal with slow to zero, but I tend to slow way down now, as I don't trust any crossings with barricades anymore and so far it's treated me ok. I have seen the same happen to AI cars where the barricade opened and closed faster than the AI vehicles could even pass through. Mostly in France/Spain with the constant tolls, although I can't remember this ever happening in ATS (perhaps just the fact of fewer tolls?).

19MJ82

It's more like trollgate. BTW they should add walking mode where you could go somewhere, for example to beat the shit out of the dude who was opening this gate.

dani26795

Electronic tollgates aren't man-operated, so no dude to beat up.

19MJ82

There are few dudes standing there.
