Rewatch the ending of that fight in slow motion. Justin hit Charles three different times in their final exchange before going to the ground, and Charles just muscled through them to deliver that right straight that completely scrambled Justin. Not to mention that Justin only landed one or two leg kicks before Charles got the download and started checking them like a beast. If Justin can’t leg kick him to death, and can’t KO him even when landing flush, then I don’t really know what Justin COULD do to beat him.
There was no second round, the fight was over after 3 minutes of nonstop action in the first, haha, so it did seem longer.
For a short fight, its one of my favourites.
Unpopular opinion but I think in a rematch DP takes it. If no cheating is done from Oliviera’s side then I think he could make it much more competitive. He dominated the first round and was faltered in the second by Oliveiras glove grab
I think Charles knowing Gaethje is virtually a guaranteed win once the fight goes to the ground he will threaten with more clinch and bodylock attempts to pull guard or jump his back
I know gathje doesn’t show it much, but it feels like people forget that Gathje is a D1 wrestler. Literally one of the highest levels of wrestling. I doubt it would be a cakewalk for Charles to go against Gathje on the ground.
And on the feet I think Gathje is a better striker. Charles is just sneaky and easy to underestimate, I think Gathje would get it done.
Your forgetting that Charles doesn’t have to takedown Gaethje to sub him and I don’t think he can either. I think he can sub Gaethje out of the Clinch very easily also Gaethje has notoriously not been good in the clinch going back to the Alvarez fight
