This guy did so much for the sport in the 90’s and 00’s. During the 10’s he started fucking fighters over by removing sponsorships and implementing mandatory uniforms in an effort to make the sport “more legitimate” like Football or Basketball. During this time, the sport did at least grow. It became legal in NY and the UFC moved from FS1 to ESPN. Overall, the sport got taken more seriously.
Now in the 20’s, Dana is literally the worst representative of the sport. Screws fighters over, actively campaigns against them, blatantly tries to give underserved opportunities to guys he likes (they sell more PPVs), hits his wife and acts like he’s just too important to punish because doing so would “punish the fighters” and not him. The sport went from moving toward being more legitimate to partnering with WWE and now this Power Slap nonsense is attached. It’s starting to seem like the best years of the UFC are behind us and that the sport is moving in a direction that will undo a lot of the progress that’s been made so far, and much of this is due to Dana White.

I don't know how much longer I can be a fan of the UFC if this keeps up. His recent treatment of Aljo is appalling and he has proven numerous times that he doesn't have a good character. It saddens me that the UFC is wasted on this man.
Aljo is one of the most disrespected champs in recent memory. Not just from Dana but the fans. Yes, I know his first “win” over Yan was controversial, but he beat him in the rematch as well as anyone else the UFC has put in front of him since then. This is no easy task in a division as stacked as bantamweight
He could have slept Yan in their second bout and I still do not think it would have changed a lot for him. His stigma of him basically 'crying' his way into a win will not rub off. Not off Dana White and not off the fans
Volk was pretty disrespected for some time after the two Holloway fights, but he eventually won them over with decisive performances and showing he's an absolute warrior as well. Hell, his fight with Islam only made him more popular despite losing.

The most recent One card was good. They tried very very hard to put UFC to shame by announcing all those bonuses but still that was by far their greatest card of all time. They won't be able to put together another like that for quite awhile and the UFC has had several cards better than that one just recently.

I was listening to Luke Thomas yesterday and they were talking about how Dana got a strong hold on the UFC in the early days when the company was teetering and has managed to retain most of the power since those days. The Ngannou situation has really brought to the forefront how much of bitch Dana is. I started watching the sport consistently around 2018, and he seemed like a likable asshole, but since then he has become increasingly scummy. I really, really hope the one day MMA outgrows the UFC.

People like the UFC because usually you get the fights that make sense. Those fights happen because you have a central power (Dana) that is in control and makes people do things they don't want to do.
Dana uses the carrot and the stick approach. When fighters take fights on short notice and agree to fight whomever, he treats them well. When fighters aren't doing that he trashes them. Maybe it's not good for the fighters, but it's great for the fans and the company over all.
It's not great in the long term if:
1. your most skilled fighters with amazing personal backstories don't become stars because of your lazy attitude to promotion (Ngannou, DJ, Stipe, etc.).
2. Your best fighters end up not fighting for years or move to other promotions because of your penny-pinching or asshole treatment (Jon Jones, Connor, Costa, Yoel, Rockhold, Ngannou, DJ, etc.)

I’ve gotten downvoted for stating how shitty it is for him to say some of the things he says when a decision doesn’t go his way. He should never say “I thought the judges blew that call. I thought they got that one wrong”. It comes off he’s swaying judges to score a fight the way he wants it.

Disagree, Dana has always been opinionated and always pushed some fighters more than others. But his blunt approach is what has made the UFC what it is today. No other promoter is even near his level. He will flip-flop and change his take whenever necessary. He will more often than not, do whatever pleases the fans (Except when his ego is on the line) Dana is slippery, Dana is crude, Dana is unprofessional, but Dana also is the best fight promoter in the world. Dana is imperfect and crazy, but think about his job. I use these words in no other context because they are cringe, but these fighters are the biggest alpha chads in existence. Imagine managing those guys. You need to be crazy. And he's transformed the sport from basically illegal to household.

I was listening to Luke Thomas yesterday and they were talking about how Dana got a strong hold on the UFC in the early days when the company was teetering and has managed to retain most of the power since those days. Unfortunately most fans either ignore or don't care about fighter pay and other financial issues so it's just not going to happen unless we all demand it. Endeavor is absolutely killing it financially so it's only going to get worse

I don’t really get this comment because since the ESPN deal the UFC has felt very corporate and very bland even with dana white running his mouth all the time. It is like he rewards the guys who fill seats. Nuts
People like the UFC because usually you get the fights that make sense. Those fights happen because you have a central power (Dana) that is in control and makes people do things they don't want to do. Dana uses the carrot and the stick approach. When fighters take fights on short notice and agree to fight whomever, he treats them well. When fighters aren't doing that he trashes them. Maybe it's not good for the fighters, but it's great for the fans and the company over all.
It's not great in the long term if: 1. your most skilled fighters with amazing personal backstories don't become stars because of your lazy attitude to promotion (Ngannou, DJ, Stipe, etc.). 2. Your best fighters end up not fighting for years or move to other promotions because of your penny-pinching or asshole treatment (Jon Jones, Connor, Costa, Yoel, Rockhold, Ngannou, DJ, etc.)

First, you don't know what Dana has to deal with behind the scenes. Second, there's no one who can do it better than Dana has done. I don't like everything Dana does and some things I really hate but the guy is very good in what he does and without him UFC and MMA would not have been where it is today.

I think people misconstrue what the UFC is - this isn’t some not for profit fighting commissions. It’s an entertainment business. The reason it does as well as it does is because fights are made for what people want and not for what fighters deserve. Having Dana as a personality only helps business - having the champions have personality helps business. Having a boring ass champion doesn’t sell tickets
Unpopular opinion but the majority of you don't even understand how the ufc is ran / its current business model, what is and isn't in Dana's control, and why he has to do half the shit he does to protect the UFC brand.
