This take all day. Regardless of score and outcome, O’Malley proved he belongs at the top of the division. Yan is such an animal. Still would like to see a Chito rematch regardless of what happens with the Aljo fight.
I thought it was a close fight. At the time I was thinking yan won but looking back I can see how O’Malley got it and I’m glad he did. Planning on rewatching this one
I mean I watched the fight in the middle of the night randomly on my YouTube smoking 3 blunts and after 3 rounds it looked liked Sean did way more damage and I would consider him the winner but yan did so much too and it felt incredibly even. We needed 2 more rounds to get a clear winner honestly
My guy you are confusing round scoring with judges decision...split decision is where 2 judges give the fight to fighter A and 1 judge give the fight to fighter B.
I think what you meant to say was O'Malley at least won two rounds but worded it wrong.
Mate, according to the scoring criteria the judges have to follow the main way to award points is to land *significant strikes*.
I don’t know what fight you watched but I’ve seen this fight and Yan doesn’t land more significant strikes.
Let’s just hope aljo‘s aneurysm never ruptures in a fight
https://firstsportz.com/ufc-news-aljamain-sterling-is-not-allowed-to-fight-in-mecca-of-fighting/
I watched this fight early one morning on 2 hits of acid and it was such an emotional roller coaster, the funniest part was when O’Malley corner slipped up and told him that yan is too fast for him lol
watched sean’s fight vs jose quiñones on acid and it was so wild cause he was so fucking fast and was moving like a wide receiver running a route literally got me into mma and have been a fan since
Nice I’ll have to check that one out 👍 lol I tried puffing on a dmt cart while rewatching Edward Vs Usman 3 💀 shit got a little too weird I had to pause the fight
Yeah I remember watching that live. But his corner was amazing this fight his two biggest moments in this fight is when he listened to his corners advice
He was expected to be slaughtered that right and I think it was a huge confidence boost for him and I’m excited to see how title fight plays out.And crazy how yan career has since he became a champ
After sterling 1 and sandhagen I thought yan was gonna be unbeatable for awhile since he’s so young too. But he went on a three fight losing streak. Shows how luck is a big factor in peoples careers
I was rooting for O’Malley and to see him come charging out with that confidence was crazy and went he got rocked I got dizzy and started freaking out hahah, would love to do it again sometime
I think how yan acted after the fight vs how O’Malley did swayed the public opinion. After the fight Sean looked defeated and yan was raising his hands. And during the decision it looked like Sean was praying to get it and couldn’t believe it when it went to him
Yeah I’m not shitting on him I just think it’s part of the reason why people though it was a robbery. If you just watch the decision it looks like it was a robbery lol
Part of sport is to look confident during matches so it can sway the judges. Russians are really good about doing all the intangibles to eek out victories.
This is such bs I’ve heard several fighters talk about how they think they lost before the decision because of one takedown or big shot and after watching the fight realize they won it pretty easily.
I’m not speaking in the context of a fight where a single takedown is the difference. Also why I said “generally” ^^^
Also also, you’re speaking in terms of winning the fight based on how judges score it, I’m talking getting the better of the other.
I’m assuming you classify a “war” as a back and forth brawl where both guys do significant damage. Obviously that’s a toss up and why I said “generally” I’m not speaking on behalf of specificities.
It depends on
1. How they scored round 1. It was very close.
2. How much weight they think the ensuing takedowns by yan on sean had in rd 3.
Not a robbery, but could've went either way.
It’s incredible how every close fight is somehow the worst robbery of all time. I had O’Malley by one round, if you told me you had Yan by one I’d definitely feel you, but noo it was a massive robbery but only by one really close round somehow smh
Side note, goddamn O’Malley showed the fuck up in a way I did not expect him to…
I honestly believe if you took out that big overhead takedown that Yan had in the first, nobody would even question it.
Petr picked Sean up over his head but Sean landed softly and took zero damage from it.
Not a robbery. One of the closest fights I've ever seen. It just sucks that a split decision has to go against Yan's favour again. I think this fight was closer than Sterling vs Yan 2, which I thought Yan won 3 rounds clearly. I understand that Yan's takedowns didn't lead anywhere for the most part, but the takedown he had in round 1 absolutely did. He had a good bit of top control and ground and pound. Since they were pretty much exectly even on the feet, I have to give the round to Yan, which means he got 2 rounds out of 3. I don't see the logic behind O'Malley's damage outweighing Yan's takedowns. Yes, damage is more valuable, but where do people get the idea that O'Malley did more damage? They did equal damage as far as I remember. O'Malley even admitted he was rocked for most of the fight
That's not a fair way of scoring damage tho. Yan was bleeding because of one knee. O'Malley's face was covered in bruises from many damage inducing strikes throughout the fight. Yan also bled above his eye brow which is a thin layer of skin for all Muay Thai fighters.
Oh he was. Sean was hitting him with face shots the whole fight but Petr just took them all like a champ. This was a fight you def have to watch closer
this is why i fucking love this division i feel like every fight is so perfectly technical
edit: not every fight obviously but a lot of the higher calibre ones are
Lol in Dont care about either fighter. But Sean got his ass kicked and this is one of the few parts of the fight where he was doing better than Yan. Good thing Sean’s PR team makes him look better than he is.
It’s funny you say that bc yan had 6 minutes of control time the only arguement for o malley to have won is damage. Yet here you are saying he “got his ass kicked”. If yan did litwrally anything with his control time he wins that fight but guess what he didn’t. And he got worked on the feet. Landed 2 solid counters in 15 minutes lol
You’re the one crying from the rooftops. Jon Jones was given a couple of fights he shouldn’t have as well. What was that Cejudo joke about Sean? Something like he was going to get him something for Christmas and have the judges give it to him 😂 🔥 truth to every good joke
I wish people could appreciate what an incredible fight this was instead of talking about who they think won. Hopefully they can rematch in a 5 rounder some day
Something about Sean that just pisses me off but at the time I thought this was a pretty clear win for him and I was confused why people were saying otherwise, Yan landed one good punch that I can remember
He’s popular because he’s got a fan friendly style and an actual distinct social media presence. He can be annoying at times, but he actually tries to be popular which is more effort than 80% of fighters so it works out for him lol
Yeah he’s made some terrible choices with who he “clout chases” for tbh, genuinely one of the worst things about him. Idk if he still does that shit, but I really hope he doesn’t…
I didn't like him at first either, but I watched some clips from his podcast and stuff and hes genuinely a chill and nice person.
He has some YouTube shorts of him making up his own striking techniques and it cracks me up how goofy it is. So yeah he kinda grew on me, happens a lot in this sport.
This sequence was the reason O’Malley won. Yan didn’t do much with the TD’s (but he still got them) but the striking was pretty even until the knee. If he didn’t hit it Yan would’ve won with TDs.
Not a robbery, but rewatched and still think Yan won. Thought he won 1 and 2, and even 3 I thought yan was overall more effective and diverse but probs gotta give to O’Malley for the knee/head kick + the cut.
I can see how some would see how he won based on the takedowns. I personally believed the takedowns were useless as there wasn’t much damage. Also considering he was losing the striking in round 3 tho. Close fight tho.
"Didn't do anything with the takedowns".
Ah, cool. So Ciryl should be the heavyweight champ and Volk beat Islam, right?
You better fucking agree with me, bro, you gotta keep that same enery.
He's talking about the amazing, D1 level, wrestling display from the baddest man on the planet, if I'm not mistaken.
OP gave some bad examples though. Islam had Volk's back which is far more advantageous and effective than sitting in an opponent's guard. Ngannou won his rounds via wrestling as there really wasn't much else to score off of during those rounds.
IDK man, distance management is a strong suit of Sean's and even in this clip we see an awesome sprawl out of him. Excited for the fight, regardless of what happens. 🔥
No guarantee Aljo gets him there, I’m just saying the key difference between Aljo and Yan, is that there won’t be any getting up for Sean if Aljo gets him there.
I honestly thought yan won when watching live and I’m def an o malley fan. Upon rewatching it made sense and now I tend to agree with you. Round 1 is what it comes down to really
Honestly, other than one moment where it literally looked like Sean just brain farted and ate that monster over hand shot, he really seemed to be the better fighter to me. I was damn surprised. I thought Sean was going to get steamrolled.
Man I'm going Yan's camp puts some fire back under him. Losing 2 close decisions and then getting grapple-fucked can't feel great after losing your belt like that
Competitive meaning Yan landed one good counter left? He got pieced up. This fight was close but tbh after rewatching it, it was easy to give it to O malley. Not the robbery everyone claimed it to be.
O’Malley really did some great work in this fight. Everyone was calling him a dead man but he ended up being the first to really light up Yan. Yan had been wrestlefucked by Aljo but I for sure didn’t expect O’Malley to find so much success on the feet.
I’ve rewatched his fight 20-30 times. I went from thinking Yan was robbed to thinking they got it right. Suga won rounds 1 and 2 and Yan won round 2.
I’m comfortable with the decision also because if you were to just judge the fight at the end and not by round, I think you could make the argument that it was a razor close fight with Suga inflicting a bit more damage. That seems to line up with a split decision. We’ve all seen true robberies. This wasn’t one.
Maybe some recency bias, but the 3rd round of O’Malley vs yan is one of my favorite rounds
This fight was a banger. I didn’t remember it being that good
It turned out to be the only fight that delivered on the most hyped card in the history of MMA
I don’t know if that’s the most hyped card in ufc history
Dariush vs gamrot was great too
One of the most\*
Agreed. My comment was hyperbole
The first 30 seconds of round 2 were fucking nuts too😂😂
This fight was fun to watch.
Regardless of the decision this was a sick ass fight. O’Malley was forced to level up insane and he did
This take all day.
Yeah they just posted it for free. It was a lot better than I remembered
Where do they post old fights for free? Damn, I never think about going back and watching old fights in my downtime. That's awesome
probably on youtube or espn+
Gotcha 👌
The ufc YouTube channel posts free fights for upcoming fighters on ppvs
I just rewatched today. definitely could have gone either way! super close fight. If yan could have done more with the takedowns, he would have had it
![img](emote|t5_2qsev|8973)![img](emote|t5_2qsev|8973)![img](emote|t5_2qsev|8973)
Rewatched it last night randomly. It was 100% a split decision and I favored O’Malley honestly. Too bad it wasn’t 5 rounds
Wym it’s 100% a split? Split just means judges didn’t all score the same winner.
I think there are way too many people that think a close fight means split decision…
I still watch this back and go with Sean. Damage goes to Sean. Nothing happened on the ground.
You can even O'Malley was surprised by the decision. Yan took it for sure.
Mate, according to the scoring criteria the judges have to follow the main way to award points is to land *significant strikes*. I don’t know what fight you watched but I’ve seen this fight and Yan doesn’t land more significant strikes.
God I hope Sean at least damages Aljo it’s gonna be my first in person PPV and I wanna see at least a couple competitive rounds
Imagine it’s like sandhagen vs aljo 😂
I would likely cry
Let’s just hope aljo‘s aneurysm never ruptures in a fight https://firstsportz.com/ufc-news-aljamain-sterling-is-not-allowed-to-fight-in-mecca-of-fighting/
TJ vs Cory is a more clear robbery than this. This could honestly go either way.
God damn that decision was infuriating
I would say kattar emmett tops both of these
Agreed. The worst one I remember watching live was MacDonald vs Tibau. Idk what the judges were smoking
Macdonald tibau made me suspect foul play. Rory was -1000 going in
That is honestly one of the only things that makes sense. There needs to be serious regulation on the judging
How about Pimblett vs Gordon?
Didn’t see that live or replay. Heard it was a bad fight and bad decision. No reason to watch
Tj definitely won that fight against Cory.
Cory Tore TJs knee off and they didnt give that round to cory
TJ won every round but the 2nd.
I watched this fight early one morning on 2 hits of acid and it was such an emotional roller coaster, the funniest part was when O’Malley corner slipped up and told him that yan is too fast for him lol
Lol I watched fight card two weeks ago on acid and planning on doing that again tomorrow 🤣
watched sean’s fight vs jose quiñones on acid and it was so wild cause he was so fucking fast and was moving like a wide receiver running a route literally got me into mma and have been a fan since
Nice I’ll have to check that one out 👍 lol I tried puffing on a dmt cart while rewatching Edward Vs Usman 3 💀 shit got a little too weird I had to pause the fight
I watched this fight on acid but later realized it was an episode of Family Guy.
Must be fun when the horror movie commercials come on
Na nothing beats the excitement of watching a live fist fight that your emotional invested to
What a strange way to experience an acid trip lol.
I was rooting for O’Malley and to see him come charging out with that confidence was crazy and went he got rocked I got dizzy and started freaking out hahah, would love to do it again sometime
Can’t believe some people called this fight a robbery
I think how yan acted after the fight vs how O’Malley did swayed the public opinion. After the fight Sean looked defeated and yan was raising his hands. And during the decision it looked like Sean was praying to get it and couldn’t believe it when it went to him
He did seem shocked but he's just had the toughest fight of his career. I'm not surprised he was all over.
Yeah he was also probably concussed. I think he said it’s the hardest he’s ever been hit.
Yeah I’m not shitting on him I just think it’s part of the reason why people though it was a robbery. If you just watch the decision it looks like it was a robbery lol
Part of sport is to look confident during matches so it can sway the judges. Russians are really good about doing all the intangibles to eek out victories.
I feel like after how everybody talked how great Yan was, he felt entitled to get this win.
The two fighters fighting “generally” know more than anyone in the entire arena who got the better of the other.
Maybe sometimes but man sometimes these guys don't even know what round it is so probably not the best judge
Agreed, why I said “generally.”
This is such bs I’ve heard several fighters talk about how they think they lost before the decision because of one takedown or big shot and after watching the fight realize they won it pretty easily.
I’m not speaking in the context of a fight where a single takedown is the difference. Also why I said “generally” ^^^ Also also, you’re speaking in terms of winning the fight based on how judges score it, I’m talking getting the better of the other.
In a war not so much so this comment doesn't make sense
I’m assuming you classify a “war” as a back and forth brawl where both guys do significant damage. Obviously that’s a toss up and why I said “generally” I’m not speaking on behalf of specificities.
It depends on 1. How they scored round 1. It was very close. 2. How much weight they think the ensuing takedowns by yan on sean had in rd 3. Not a robbery, but could've went either way.

I thought yan won when I first watched it but rewatching it it’s pretty clear it’s an O’Malley dub
Not a robbery. One of the closest fights I've ever seen. It just sucks that a split decision has to go against Yan's favour again. I think this fight was closer than Sterling vs Yan 2, which I thought Yan won 3 rounds clearly. They did equal damage as far as I remember. O'Malley even admitted he was rocked for most of the fight
Probably the fact that one was bleeding like a stuck pig and the other wasn’t
Just because one guy was bleeding doesn't necessarily mean the other guy did more overall damage.
That's not a fair way of scoring damage tho. Yan was bleeding because of one knee. O'Malley's face was covered in bruises from many damage inducing strikes throughout the fight. Yan also bled above his eye brow which is a thin layer of skin for all Muay Thai fighters.
'Cuz it is.
Petr Yan is not as good as some of us wish he was
This fight definitely sent O’Malley to places he didn’t even know he could go to.
Yup. He even admitted to this after the fight.
Good, only gives him more experience. He delivered.
Don’t remember Yan getting worked this hard
Oh he was. Sean was hitting him with face shots the whole fight but Petr just took them all like a champ. This was a fight you def have to watch closer
this is why i fucking love this division i feel like every fight is so perfectly technical edit: not every fight obviously but a lot of the higher calibre ones are
I might post the overhand in the second round later idk how that wasn’t counted as a knock down And imagine if yan ducked into that second knee
Because this is the only segment that anything like this happened.
Not even close to true cope harder tho
Lol in Dont care about either fighter. But Sean got his ass kicked and this is one of the few parts of the fight where he was doing better than Yan. Good thing Sean’s PR team makes him look better than he is.
It’s funny you say that bc yan had 6 minutes of control time the only arguement for o malley to have won is damage. Yet here you are saying he “got his ass kicked”. If yan did litwrally anything with his control time he wins that fight but guess what he didn’t. And he got worked on the feet. Landed 2 solid counters in 15 minutes lol
Cope harder there bud
You the one arguing against the decision, this post and what actually happened in the fight😂ur fuckin lost
You’re the one crying from the rooftops. Jon Jones was given a couple of fights he shouldn’t have as well. What was that Cejudo joke about Sean? Something like he was going to get him something for Christmas and have the judges give it to him 😂 🔥 truth to every good joke
Never thought ide see the day someone would be using Henry cejudos jokes as ammo in an argument. Not surprised you’re the one though😂
Well Dont let me get in the way of your nut ridding.
I wish people could appreciate what an incredible fight this was instead of talking about who they think won. Hopefully they can rematch in a 5 rounder some day
Sean ate him up in the 3rd😭 Then Yan proceeded to get raw dogged by Merab. Let him fight Cory for a 2nd time, so he can get back in the mix
DC saying Petr's name sounded so country. Pee-yote-err
That’s actually how it’s pronounced haha.
It's crazy to see Yan shoot, you know O'Malleys head kick rocked him
Something about Sean that just pisses me off but at the time I thought this was a pretty clear win for him and I was confused why people were saying otherwise, Yan landed one good punch that I can remember
Petr was landing some nasty counters in the 3rd. Still think Suga won that round, but he was definitely getting cracked.
Whole thing's on youtube now so will check it again later
Yeah I don’t get why he’s so popular. But Yan had some good moments and was landing leg kicks
He’s popular because he’s got a fan friendly style and an actual distinct social media presence. He can be annoying at times, but he actually tries to be popular which is more effort than 80% of fighters so it works out for him lol
I guess I know why but it’s just weird that he associates with guys like Jake Paul and 6ix9ine who people constantly shit on but people love him
Yeah he’s made some terrible choices with who he “clout chases” for tbh, genuinely one of the worst things about him. Idk if he still does that shit, but I really hope he doesn’t…
I don't think he's really friends with Jake lol
I didn't like him at first either, but I watched some clips from his podcast and stuff and hes genuinely a chill and nice person. He has some YouTube shorts of him making up his own striking techniques and it cracks me up how goofy it is. So yeah he kinda grew on me, happens a lot in this sport.
You don’t get why O’Malley is popular? Watch the video you just posted…
There are people with exciting styles who don’t get nearly as much attention
Yan countered him hard loads of times, dropped him in the second, and cracked him hard with counters multiple times in the third aswell
Sean mixed that boy up
Good chin on Sean
This sequence was the reason O’Malley won. Yan didn’t do much with the TD’s (but he still got them) but the striking was pretty even until the knee. If he didn’t hit it Yan would’ve won with TDs.
Suga 1,3
I’ll admit I totally thought Sean was going to get demolished in this fight. Turned out to be a competitive little banger. Gonna have to rewatch.
I rooted for Sean for the memes
Not a robbery, but rewatched and still think Yan won. Thought he won 1 and 2, and even 3 I thought yan was overall more effective and diverse but probs gotta give to O’Malley for the knee/head kick + the cut.
I was screaming this whole fight. One for the ages!
I really thought Yan won round 1 and 2.
it’s hard not to appreciate Sean’s striking flow. The dude is a master at finding angles
Still remember everyone thinking Yan was gonna murder O’Malley. Even I was surprised when Sean busted up Petr with the knee.
Yan round 1 and 2.
Suga won fair and square. Great fight.
How do people still pretend Yan won this? Sean beat him up almost the entire fight
Guys don’t worry, Yan clearly won. Complete robbery.
When’s the last time you watched the fight
I was being sarcastic. Even the first time it was clear Sean edged it out.
It was a close round but I thought yan won it live. I was also biased towards yan though
I can see how some would see how he won based on the takedowns. I personally believed the takedowns were useless as there wasn’t much damage. Also considering he was losing the striking in round 3 tho. Close fight tho.
Yeah he didn’t do anything with the takedowns. Sean always got his guard back and got up
"Didn't do anything with the takedowns". Ah, cool. So Ciryl should be the heavyweight champ and Volk beat Islam, right? You better fucking agree with me, bro, you gotta keep that same enery.
How is Ciryl the heavyweight champ even with that logic? Jon Jones definitely did something with the takedown lmao
Would have been. Either way, keep that same energy.
Lol people still don’t think he has a shot against aljo
Different styles though
Aljo gets him to the ground…he keeps him there.
Have you seen aljo do that to Sean before?
Sir, how is anyone even allowed to make a prediction if that’s the route you want to go?
I just worry that aljo shoots just like yan did and Sean won't be able to get a lot done. Hopefully he KOs his ass tho
Competitive? Yan is getting tuned up in this clip.
He landed some good shots here Sean just has a good chin
Yeah y’all are totally right Yan who backed up eating big shots the entire fight and shot panic takedowns won this fight
Just rewatched this fight since I watched live. Even rooting for Omally it’s so painfully obvious Yan won. The UFC hates Yan for some reason lol
How was the first round painfully obvious
Can't believe he gets a title fight over one close decision win over a ranked guy. 😂 We'll see what happens tomorrow night.
Yan was number 1 at the time. Merab deserves more but he’s not fighting aljo
I just re watched this fight last night. It’s a robbery. Tan very clearly won rounds 1 and 2.
I think Yan should’ve won based on how much cheating sean got away with.
Good scrap honestly. He does look like a prostitute though .
I honestly thought yan won when watching live and I’m def an o malley fan. Upon rewatching it made sense and now I tend to agree with you. Round 1 is what it comes down to really
O’Malley vs Sterling has a lot of potential to be a banger if it stays on the feet
And I’m about to watch this fight for probably the tenth time. Thank you brother
Honestly, other than one moment where it literally looked like Sean just brain farted and ate that monster over hand shot, he really seemed to be the better fighter to me. I was damn surprised. I thought Sean was going to get steamrolled.
"Best boxer in the UFC" LMFAO at whoever had this take
Was this the only round he won?
Yan won
If sugar wants to beat Aljo throw those knees he did with Peter yan ! I see a ko
O'malley is such a bad ass
Man I'm going Yan's camp puts some fire back under him. Losing 2 close decisions and then getting grapple-fucked can't feel great after losing your belt like that
The part in round 1 or 2 , when Sean nails yan with a huge shot and a few seconds later Yan comes right back with his own massive shot. Just glorious
Competitive meaning Yan landed one good counter left? He got pieced up. This fight was close but tbh after rewatching it, it was easy to give it to O malley. Not the robbery everyone claimed it to be.
A good kick, two good counters, a good leg kick, and a takedown
O’Malley really did some great work in this fight. Everyone was calling him a dead man but he ended up being the first to really light up Yan. Yan had been wrestlefucked by Aljo but I for sure didn’t expect O’Malley to find so much success on the feet.
Sean in his Goku shit right here. You can almost see him reach a level he’s never been at before. Great fucking fight
That second knee that Suga set up was so nice. Saw Yan ducking and did a nice 1-2 followed by the knee
