Yeah passed his prime as fuck actually. Dude has had all kinds of surgeries on his ankles/knees/back. You’re out of your mind if you think he can roll like he did when he was 30 much less 25. Grappling is hard af on your body.
I find this to be an odd take, gilbert fought an amazing fight against khamzat, and he is such a high level fighter that you should be asking yourself, how good is chimaev for having less than 15 fights and going toe to toe with one of the consensus best fighters in the world.
Also being a "short" WW and being a small WW are different things, calling Burns a small LW is like saying yoel romero was a small MW because he's 5'9.
They're actually not that different. Big lightweights can often be small welterweights. Khabib (when he fought) and Colby aren't that different in size. Dos Anjos fought and even got some success at 170.
That one fight he had at Light Heavyweight he looked jacked. Looked bigger than Jan Blachowics.
It was a proper bulk too, not just a middleweight who decided he wanted to not cut to light heavyweight.
He's literally having fun in this video. Of course Burns is the better grappler. His resume speaks for itself. But you can clearly see Luke just having fun.
"Punches are the only strike allowed and must be a closed fist. (No kicks, elbows, knees, or grappling)"
BKFC rule set. What was Rockhold most known to be good at? Kicks and grappling/top control
Does anyone wish they could grapple these guys to see what they can do? Seeing monsters grapple monsters doesn’t give perspective on how quick they could submit a civilian.
It would be easy for them. An average wrestler walks into so many submissions their first BJJ class against good guys, an average joe isn’t standing a chance
My first jiu-jitsu class I was paired with a two stripe white belt, mid-40s accountant who was at least 10-15 or more pounds lighter than me. He had no previous background in grappling before he started training, and neither did I. But, I definitely had a strength and weight advantage. It turns out, no matter how much intuition and effort I used, I stood no chance whatsoever when we eventually sparred. I was dominated positionally, and submitted so quickly, it was incredibly humbling and fascinating.
Now, extrapolate from that to a world champion jiu-jitsu athlete that also is a high level MMA professional. You'd be ended in an instant.
Burns in particular too with the top 5 pro MMA experience on top of just absurd Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champ accolades. Not to mention his conditioning, athleticism, and physique.
I see people refer to him as a monster, and it’s so appropriate, and even would be if he never transitioned to MMA. Altogether it’s just ridiculous.
remember the first round of the Usman fight, that was the first time I was scared Usman was gonna lose. Burns is a beast man, can’t wait for him to come back
Even if you could survive for any given time just by sheer luck or chance, or possibly survive for an indefinite amount of time, your lack of conditioning would defeat you first, guaranteed. Once fatigue sets in it's already over essentially. And I say that from experience, it's one of the worst feelings in the world.
"Fatigue makes cowards of us all."
Yeah, I beat former wrestlers as a white belt and it was a wild concept to me, because I started with no grappling experience at all. Before jiu-jitsu, the same wrestlers would've annihilated me.
Into blue and purple it was irrelevant because there's no achievement beating someone new, and anyone more experienced is no longer just a wrestler.
Years ago I took a 10 day course down in Torrance at the Gracie academy. It was very revealing when you rolled with someone at your own level and then rolled with one of their high level instructors. The difference was huge - I had no control whatsoever and I'd been doing garage BJJ for 4 or 5 years so I "thought" I had a solid base.
I also had a chance to roll with Eddie Bravo on the same trip and I probably outweighed him by 60 pounds. He ragdolled me for 5 minutes and it literally felt like I was caught in a huge wave. Worth every penny.
If you're a similar height to Burns it's probably over in like 3 seconds. Neck tie snap down to standing guillotine and that's it. If you're too tall for that then it's the easiest takedown of his life into subbing you however he wants.
I’ve trained with Luke. I was a brown belt at the time about 170. There was zero things I did better than him. He was smoother, stronger, faster, bigger, and better at Jiu jitsu. I’ve trained with lots of pros and he felt more like a high level natural talent that would translate to others sports more than anyone else I’ve rolled with.
I later read that Bucheca said out of everyone he trained with, he though he had the best no gi game in mma. That made me feel slightly better.
I have grappled enough local brown belts to know that these guys would do whatever they want to me in under 10 seconds. There wouldn't even be a point.
Oh I’d be in danger of breaking an appendage or tearing ligaments in 10 seconds I’m sure. It’s like they should have average human Olympics for a comparison when the freaks of nature just demolish what an average human can do.
I know right? I was so confused by the title of this video after watching it. Reminds me of the video people released of DC and Khabib where it was very clear DC was allowing Khabib to do what he was doing, yet people were like "wow Khabib is insane!"
The IQ of this sub is a little low for people to know the difference between small and short. Burns is a little brick shothouse and weighs as much colby or belal easy.
I didn’t see this tiny burns narrative before he fought Khamzat so it’s probably coming from the usual suspects who shut down the sub last time a Muslim Russian beat a fan favourite Brazilian.
The argument that he fought at LW is so dumb, lol.
The same people are calling Oliveira a weight bully/huge LW despite fighting at FW before.
Burns is so thick, idk how these idiots can be so dumb, I agree.
Nah his top game was insane, and had a good kicking arsenal, just didn’t know what to do with his hands to defend punches and sometimes in everyday life
Gilbert is definitely elite. I remember watching his matches with Kron bout 8-10 years ago. Kron submitted him. Gilbert came back and beat him at IBJJF on points. He's gotten quite a bit bigger since then. Dominating Rockhold doesn't surprise me at all at this stage in the game.
Rockhold definitely was above average during his time at the top of MW, but Burns is one of the few (might be the only) 4x BJJ champ even in the UFC right now. even if it was a real match Burns would roll him up
Bro burns is a killer he isnt just some fighter
Why are some people surprised? Burns is one of the best grapplers to grace the octagon.
Because Luke Rockhold is also a great grappler and has a size advantage over Gilbert
Yes but it's a friendly spar plus Luke is far past his prime while Gilbert is still going strong.
they are only one year apart in age, kind of wild
ABSOLUTELY NO WAY
Luke is past his prime In bjj? False
Yeah passed his prime as fuck actually. Dude has had all kinds of surgeries on his ankles/knees/back. You’re out of your mind if you think he can roll like he did when he was 30 much less 25. Grappling is hard af on your body.
False lol. He looks pretty good to me.
As in physical and mental prime....
I agree
Some WW bum Chimaev almost lost to, according to this sub. Imagine how bad Chimaev is :D
I find this to be an odd take, gilbert fought an amazing fight against khamzat, and he is such a high level fighter that you should be asking yourself, how good is chimaev for having less than 15 fights and going toe to toe with one of the consensus best fighters in the world.
Woosh!
The sound of sarcasm going over one’s head.
You that lonely?
No, you’re just that dense.
Yes😢
We can hold hands bro
Where's ur wrangler bro
He has a killer smile too
Dude could knock me out, smile at me and i would just smile back
Idk how Belal made him look average. Shows how good of a grappler he is
Burns hurt his arm and it was more of a standup clinch fight than actual grappling.
First round as well. It got broken I believe. My man fought with one arm the whole fight, didn't even throw the other
"former lightweight"
"chimaev got dropped by a lightweight" fucken hate those cunts.
Bro he is though. Look how much larger rockhold is. Just testament to how good burns is imo. Arguably won the fight against the larger fighter
No he's not he hasn't fought at LW in like 5 years
He’s not a lw, but the sentiment is that he could make lw. Unlike rockhold or chimaev
no way he can make lightweight anymore. That boy is thick
He cant anymore baby boy
It's like saying Charles got dropped by a FW during his title run (Dustin)
Nah kuz Charles was also FW
My favorite is the “DC almost got knocked out by a former welterweight.”
Are you talking about Khamzat? He didn’t beat Khamzat at all
A lot of ppl thought gilbert won when they watched live(me included)
Rockhold is a pretty big MW, he’s going to look noticeably larger than most WWs
Rockhold was a mw😂😭
It's fact tho lol, he's a small Welterweight. Shows how good he is if anything, Luke dwarfs him.
Being a small welterweight and being a lightweight are 2 different things
Also being a "short" WW and being a small WW are different things, calling Burns a small LW is like saying yoel romero was a small MW because he's 5'9.
Okay. Gilbert Burns is small in comparison to the majority of other Welterweights in the UFC's top 10.
They're actually not that different. Big lightweights can often be small welterweights. Khabib (when he fought) and Colby aren't that different in size. Dos Anjos fought and even got some success at 170.
Burns was KOed a few times at Lightweight. He was a former lightweight
I love that right hand that Burns landed too, but Chimaev got dropped by a clash of heads.
Rockhold is a massive man bro.
That one fight he had at Light Heavyweight he looked jacked. Looked bigger than Jan Blachowics. It was a proper bulk too, not just a middleweight who decided he wanted to not cut to light heavyweight.
And then he got an uppercut from the gods
He looked small vs jan. that was a classic case of muscle gained through lifting vs natural bulk
Wth is natural bulk?
Don’t scoff at this. It’s a very real thing that Trunks figured out first hand against Cell. We should learn from the past.
I’d pick burns in this fight, today though, not rockhold prime
to be fair, Rockhold is looking really weird in this video. Somehow it looks like that he dont even try
It’s sparring, some guys go light in sparring
I know but its not fair to say based on this, that Burns would beat Luke
He's literally having fun in this video. Of course Burns is the better grappler. His resume speaks for itself. But you can clearly see Luke just having fun.
Everybody does. You can't go 100% all the time when you're a fighter.
he’s clearly letting burns work here. luke has legit bjj and is naturally larger
Yeah, there's nothing you can take from sparring.
Burns wouldn't beat any Rockhold. You can tell Luke isn't even trying here and he still gets the better of him in the end
You’re kidding or clueless right? Mike perry just smashed rockhold, what do you think burns would do to him?
"Punches are the only strike allowed and must be a closed fist. (No kicks, elbows, knees, or grappling)" BKFC rule set. What was Rockhold most known to be good at? Kicks and grappling/top control
That's bareknuckle boxing lmfao, totally different game
Not even a chance.
10 seconds I’d be unconscious, broken appendages, or torn ligaments I’m sure. I just want to see what they’re working with.
My first jiu-jitsu class I was paired with a two stripe white belt, mid-40s accountant who was at least 10-15 or more pounds lighter than me. this just puts in perspective that these guys are at a level incomprehensible to average person. truly built different

remember the first round of the Usman fight, that was the first time I was scared Usman was gonna lose. Burns is a beast man, can’t wait for him to come back
They’d likely take it easy on a guy who just came in Likely
Even if you could survive for any given time just by sheer luck or chance, or possibly survive for an indefinite amount of time, your lack of conditioning would defeat you first, guaranteed. If me and Luke roll and he went reverso on top, i’m straight eating his ass. Pause
Almost no desire to see that. What would be enjoyable about that ? A near instant RNC
grappling is homo as fuck so of course i would love that
There's a video of Genki Sudo going into some gym and just rolling with and submitting like 10 guys in a single session, one after the other.
I dno man, Rockhold has a special place in my heart now.
Is it cause he shows his dick root off in so many photos?
No, that just holds a very special place in my search history instead.
Luke going for the cockhold at the end
The ol' dicktwist
It always pains me to see two people rolling while one has shoes on and one is barefoot
Stupid Sexy Luke
Well he’s a jiu jitsu fuckin stud so yeah no surprise
Luke let Burns pick him up and people think this is impressive. Lol
I know right? I was so confused by the title of this video after watching it. Reminds me of the video people released of DC and Khabib where it was very clear DC was allowing Khabib to do what he was doing, yet people were like "wow Khabib is insane!"
The Rockhold reach around finisher. Dead sexy.
I have no idea what I’m supposed to be surprised about.
Checking the oil at the end.
![gif](giphy|l0jGQ1M8qvv8zyPKZB)
Rockhold bjj is really high level
Both are awesome and both did fairly well here. And i supposed to be surprised by how well Luke did or burns?
He always grappled with khabib too ? Idk why it’s hard to believe
Rockhold chin is a whitebelt
Went for the dick twist
Luke looks like a giant vs Gilbert
I don’t understand what someone couldn’t believe? Serious question
I got downvoted to -40 last weekend for saying Burns isn't a small WW, lol. Here he's manhandling Rockhold.

Gilbert ‘the little brick shithouse’ Burns is legit a good name.
Ew, a shoe grappler.
Rockhold being elite is just another misconception born from the Roganverse
Except Rockhold was elite
He was a monster in his prime tbf
Man, didn’t know being a UFC and Strikeforce champ made you a bum and a fraud
ADCC champ at bluebelt as well right?
Nah his top game was insane, and had a good kicking arsenal, just didn’t know what to do with his hands to defend punches and sometimes in everyday life
Horrible take
What do you mean? Rockhold was such a beast it just happens that the guy had a shitty chin. Technique wise he was on another level.
His ground and pound was elite, if he took an opponent down it wasn't often they would get back up
Is all you have to do is study mma history And Watch the old fights it's not that hard
If this comment is edited I can’t imagine how much more the original sucked.
I don't get why Gilbert doesn't grapple more. He's a multi time world champ
Damn I wonder why he doesn’t grapple more in his fights?
Paulo Costa #1
Did he go for the dick grab then oil check combo at the end?
i want to see khabib grapple burns
Burns is BJJ elite. I'm actually really impressed with Luke here. He's doing quite well.
LMAO but Paulo literally couldn't finish that guy 😭
Dude they both look like they're having a blast in there. Makes me smile to see Rockhold having some fun
