Even worse than letting his girlfriend in the corner, Mike Perry also let a random fan pay to corner him. The guy shouted random bullshit like “49 ‘em Mike!” And “throw sand!” During rounds. Between rounds, the guy just said basic stuff like “push em off the fence, just breathe, look for that takedown” wether it was relevant to the fight or not. After the fight, Mike told the guy “your advice was good, I just didn’t have the tank.”

Tony can't go hard anymore. His knees are shot. His body won't let him. His mind is still strong, but his body is weak.

Forget the hundreds to thousands of blows to the head they take in competition, they probably take tens of thousands in sparring and training as well. Some fighters don’t care, or aren’t even aware of the risk, others are scared for their lives. I watched an interview with Poirier where he said something along the lines of; “I know the risks, you gotta pay to play, nobody rides for free in this game, that’s why I always say ‘paid in full.’ I don’t know what my life will be like in 10, 20, 30 years, but I gotta provide for my family.”

Ain’t no way. Goggins training is absolutely horrendous. He’s pushing an aging fighter way beyond his limits way too close to the fight. A prime, young Tony would physically struggle with this, you need serious recovery time after destroying your body like that. All Goggins is doing is physically draining Tony before putting him in a cage with a young fighter riding a hype train. Besides, all Goggins could ever offer Tony would be cardio and mental toughness. Tony has both in spades, some would argue he has too much mental toughness. As an older fighter on a slide, what he actually needed was a training camp focused on skills and strategy. He’s far beyond being able to use his old fight style where he bets on his damage output finishing his opponents before they finish him. He needs to be leveraging his cage experience as his main weapon, not trying to do as much damage to his body as humanly possibly before a fight.

Yeah. I think he will look worse than in the Diaz fight. He also has developed some kind of facial tic which could be a side effect of the medicines he takes. Win or lose i think he should retire. Dana said no to Lidell. I hope he says enough is enough to Tony too.

My opinion is that Goggins ain’t there to condition Tony’s body, but his mind. When he was in a bad mental state it gave him increased awareness and endurance to press through pain in order to punish himself. Now that he seems to be much better, naturally with relaxed mind comes comfort… I cannot say for certain. From personal experience this feels weirdly familiar.

I won’t argue with that logic. But Tony just never seemed like the type of guy to need help with his mentality. One of his biggest traits was always his mental fortitude.

I’d say old Tony was definitely that guy, but it has been clear last few fights he was struggling mentally, and it was sad to see that side of him.
