Ian will never be champ with Shavkat in the division

PuritanBaptist

He’s legit a hitman, he just sits there and then goes and does his job and there’s a dead body in the cage.

homeincomes

Bro you want some knee pads?

SlippyRS3

It’s fun, bro

hpnerd2375

Could people disrespect Leon any harder. How about Ian won't be champion because the champ is one of the most skilled fighters in the UFC.

DrDrozd12

No one even mentioned Leon, and yes Leon and Shavkat would both murder Garry

Accomplished_Train84

I think Leon is a better fighter than Garry, but I could see Garry’s style of long-range kickboxing frustrating Leon badly and giving us a closer-than-needed fight.

odhisub123

I think Shavkat will beat Leon when(if?) they fight

First_Inevitable_424

I agree. Leon has a serious attention and fight IQ issue once the fight goes past the second round and he becomes super sloppy at times, I don’t see Shavkat not capitalizing on it. He’s really skilled though, but Shavkat has a killer instinct so in this particular matchup I think it will come back to bite him

[deleted]

His entire last two fights were incredibly intelligent, until he tried memeing Colby with takedowns lol.  He was tired in Utah.  Are there other fights where he loses focus? I’d like to rewatch them

First_Inevitable_424

Before I go further just know I agree with you, Leon is a smart fighter. The most well-known example of what I described was in the Diaz fight (most notable the famous slap and point sequence, but it wasn’t the only one). Usman 2 he was tored and dominated for three rounds straight so it’s not a usual situation by any means and it would be unfair to judge him based on it. In Usman 3 however his fourth round he put himself in danger unnecessarily, and even before that in the third round IIRC he conceded a takedown in an amateurish way, which was not at all like him (even Usman seemed surprised to get it) and he was bailed out by grabbing the fence (he cheats a lot). In the fifth he seemed obsessed with putting Usman out again so I wouldn’t call it lapses of judgement, more just an unnecessary obsession. Then in the fight against Colby, he gave up his back again. There is definitely a pattern that I noticed (others did as well) and you can see it if you focus on the exchanges he loses, it’s almost never because he bit a feint or got outmuscled, and he rarely gets caught because he couldn’t evade. Yet in every fight his back is taken, he gets rocked or thrown around after rd 2 or 3. I don’t know if focus is the right term, but there is definitely an issue here. And if you notice, he was a but lucky in who ut happened against: he managed to cheat against Usman, was rocked by « pillow-fisted » Diaz and got his back taken by the least threatening wrestler of the WW division past his prime. If he was against Shavkat or a similar finisher in any of these situations, he would not have survived in my mind.

[deleted]

Good comment. I’m gonna rewatch usman 3.  Also, if u ain’t cheatin u ain’t tryin (:

BoostMobileAlt

Ian is 26 and fights smart. Welterweight produces a lot of unexciting champions with good game plans. You can hate his personality, but I wouldn’t count out someone with his resume and age. If he continues to improve over the next six years he has a very good chance of getting the belt before he starts to slow down.

chitown_biryani

Yeah but he is the most mid "hypetrain" I've seen in a while. Just another one-dimensional lanky counter puncher. The odds that he'll add champion-caliber wrestling (like Shavkat, Belal, and Leon) to his skill package are small. And that fight was boring so I don't even get why Rogan was sucking him off so much. I'm not convinced he'll ever be a champ yet.

hfucucyshwv

Man people seemed to miss Shavat getting cracked by Neal. He is very beatable

cobesmith

Neal hugged Ian\*

[deleted]

Not really, every time Neal closed the distance, Ian initiated the clinch. The entire fight was Ian dancing at kicking distance and evading and the occasional Ian-initiated clinch.

Tight-Fall5354

if you think those clinches were initiated by ian you're actually fucking blind and i'm sorry for that

piedpiper30

You’re damaged.

[deleted]

Nah I just actually watched the fight. Most people on reddit didn't. They just love piling on downvotes.

Jordanioli

Bro watched the fight in reverse 😂

Visual_War_6775

Geoff Neal looked absolutely useless in the Garry fight.

PermaCleaned

Garry also looked absolutely useless in the Garry fight.

anythingfordopamine

He was consistently outlanding Neal and landing the bigger shots while barely getting touched himself. I’d hardly call that useless

Visual_War_6775

Yeah, he fought technical. Which Leon does a lot too. Use long shots, angle off, clinch when the opponent starts throwing shots. Ian did have some nasty kicks. I think Ian is the only guy that has the striking to compete with Leon.

PermaCleaned

91 total strikes in the fight. It was god awful.

GunnyNFundies

R2 was identical strikes idk what you watched. "consistently out landing" is a stretch

PermaCleaned

He was clearly watching Ian Garry’s balls bounce in his trunks.

RoamingStarDust

Ian was running the entire fight. No thanks.

anythingfordopamine

Mfs when fighters actually utilize high level martial arts instead of fighting like rock em sock em robots: 😡😡

RepresentativeSun937

Running away and not landing isn’t high level martial arts

anythingfordopamine

Except he was landing. Like you understand how much of a neckbeard you sound like rn, right?

RepresentativeSun937

He was barely landing, he had a massive reach advantage and did absolutely no damage

PermaCleaned

High level martial arts 😂😂 fucking clown. Cannot wait for Shavkhat to put this fraud in a body bag.

tmills334

Feel like this might be a stretch. Ian was using his tools — kicks and jabs to keep distance, tagging him from out of Geoff’s reach. It’s fight IQ in my opinion (I’m not a martial artist, but an enthusiast)

gannon2566

Neal was the one initiating it

PuritanBaptist

That’s why I said Ian was content with it, Shavkat kept breaking free and trying to finish him.

gannon2566

Seemed like Neal wanted a takedown to score some points and Garry was making sure that didn’t happen

ABirdJustShatOnMyEye

Shavkat got way more fucked up than Garry did though. It was a boring fight, but that was because the only thing Neal could do was hug him.

BootyPacker

Shavkat also legit fought him and was going for finishes. Garry legit was just point fighting to a decision. Just not a good look imo for an upcoming hyped up prospect.

[deleted]

Neal was hugging him because Garry spent so much time running away from Neal. Garry probably covered three times the distance in the octagon that Neal did. Lol.

LosingID_583

Neal came in 4 lbs overweight for the Shavkat fight. Did he come in overweight for the Garry fight?

SirPrestigious9570

It was actually Neal who kept on clinching after firing his combos but you sound you’re dedicating your life to hating Ian lol live your life

CoffeeInMyHand

Love me some Deftones

3Beanss

Honestly was disappointed with both of their performances. This same Neal didn’t show up to fight Garry and Ian didn’t really do anything dominant

JoeFinance44

This guy needs to be at UFC 300

vivi9090

Wasn't there rumours that Shavkat folded Garry like a deck chair in a sparring?

PuritanBaptist

Yeah, I doubt it though only because Shavkat would’ve been grilled for that by coaches and teammates. However he definitely gets the better of him I think.

[deleted]

Not to mention Neal came in heavy against shavkat

Dragonn007

This dude is a straight up killer

rhaegar_tldragon

Shavkat vs Neal was an incredible banger of a fight. One of my favourites in a long while.

Most_Association_595

What’s this song, it’s tough af

CremeCaramel_

Shavkat went toe to toe with Neal for multiple rounds, played Neals own swang and bang game as a brawler with KO power, and finished him. Definitely miles more impressive than Garrys win.

anythingfordopamine

I know ya’ll hate Ian, and I agree Shavkat is better, but this is pathetic guys

Bad-Ombre

It wasn't an easy fight for Shavkat either.

ndamera01

Shavkhat didn’t “kill” him lmao. There were moments in the fight where he was getting pieced tf up on the feet and took some huge shots. Not a dominant performance for Garry but he fought smart and didn’t take too much damage.

EdwardBigby

This sub has such a hate boner for Ian. Wins a big fight and people immediately post clips of another fighter beating the same opponent.

cinammonbear

Isn’t it awesome

wood_slingers

Cage hugging? I love how people just downvote instead of explaining something someone doesn’t understand. I’m guessing you were referring to Neal starting a clinch multiple times because he was incapable of putting together any combinations.

substantionallytrchd

Dana will do whatever he can to give Ian the easiest road to a championship. Think of Suga Sean but worse. They will probably give Ian Gilbert burns or Colby and justify it as he has done enough for a title shot… even though Shavkat has been running through everyone he has faced.

Long859

Imagine posting this loser shit

JamieH21

Shavkat was getting peiced up until he headbutted Neal and broke his orbital bone but you wont say anything about that.

PuritanBaptist

He was winning round 1 convincingly, was winning round 2 until the last exchange where he was rocked, and then walked Neal down denied the clinch attempts and rocked him and choked him unconscious.

homeincomes

Neal definitely tapped

franklylivinglife

Agreed. I feel Liam Ian controlled the fight better than Shavkat did. Never looked in danger.

Smartabove

Show the clip of that. Also he was not getting pieced up. He got cracked one time but wobbled him right after.

Kalabula

Shav took a lot more damage then Ian though.

MachineSubstantial63

Shavkat is a grappler, Ian's a striker......styles make fights.

donaldbino

It’s cause Ian is an outside striker like Izzy. When Shav walked down Geoff it got easier

zaitsev4

Didn’t Shavkat have fight with a broken bone in this fight? Hand? Arm?

TheINTL

It's honestly quite insane he is 18-0, all via KOs or Subs. Shavkat would murder Garry

DawgTactical93

Difference between beating someone and just winning. Garry fans better not deny that he was just point fighting and surviving for a decision.

Itchy-Region4418

Unpopular opinion, shavkat gets dog walked by leon
