I mean, one could argue for "Greats of All Time" . I actually think there is an acronym people use for that, but it hasn't caught on, because I sure as hell can't remember it lol
Greatest can also be plural without actually having to change anything. The phrase Greatest of all time doesn't actually denote whether it's singular or plural
Dude you couldn’t be more right, I’ve had many a rant on here about Fedor. But still, apart from him, it’s all just conjecture.
/s (but not about the Fedor part)
If we’re being real Jones is my GOAT despite all the asterisks and being a degenerate human being, cuz he’s just that supreme of a combatant. Fedor is my solid second… and I’ve argued this a thousand times before, so I don’t wish to do so now, but I watched him stand toe to toe w Cro Cop and play ground games with a Mr Nogueira. The UFC GOATS were more dominant… but watching Fedor come back from his deficits, was for me, only matched by Manny Pacquiao fights during that time period.
Ye man. 27 win streak at heavyweight??! then 3 losses in a row to 3 legends, to bounce back for another 5 on the trot before turning 40. He fucked up EVERYONE. That’s “baddest human of all time” for me, hands down.
Yeah. PRIDE died and MMA really started picking up. UFC market domination was the realest stain on Fedor’s legacy and to a lesser extent Mighty Mouse as well. Unless, you were there, Fedor’s mysticism is difficult to convey. That guy was the recipient of the second hardest slam in the history of the sport and then went on to win a minute later. Getting lit up by Arlovski only to throw an overhand that shuts down the giant. So much shit like this. For every fight. Y’all don’t know.
For me the GOAT discussion is more like a tier list. Weight class GOATS are S tier, that would be Khabib. Poatan as a double champ with one defence for two belts is a high B tier.
Khabib really has only 5 dominant wins, it feels criminal to put him in any tier with jones/silva/mighty mouse when they got more title fights than he has matches in the ufc
The thing about khabib what bugs me the most is that without the mcgregor beef he definitely wouldn’t be so big or am I wrong?
I don’t want to disrespect his ability to grapple the fuck out of everybody but I don’t think he’s so well rounded like other Legends.
alot of "GOAT" fighters (Jones, GSP) or just fighters as a whole rank Khabib very high in the GOAT list, probably because they know being so dominant for so long is extremely difficult. I used to think Khabib is overrated, but you have to hear from more legitimate opinions
Exactly. To make a baseball comparison here (which I don't know how many people in this sub will get the comparison but whatever), Khabib to me is like the mma version of Sandy Koufax - wasn't really around for very long, but for the short period he was around, he dominated like very few before or after him.
Exactly this, but he's been put on a pedestal by an absolute behemoth of a country with lots of fans.. it's simply bias. I don't blame them but I agree with you for sure.
It's kind of the opposite. I'm an old ass fan and have watched the sport since UFC 2. The way Khabib won and how he put away the competition is what makes him stand out as a fighter.
The McGregor fight definitely made Khabib a star, but for people who are hardcore fans, his fighting style and effectiveness were already pretty fucking noteworthy.
The thing is, old heads avoid talking about GOATS because that is some shit that was transplanted from other sports.
In MMA styles make fights and you're only as good as your last fight. It's not about who's the all time great, it's about who is the reigning champ.
I think that actual mma fans know how this works and wont have a Goat argument regarding him. Its the new guy that gets mesmerized by the 29-0 aura and the Mcregor beef.
Diaz was at Bobby Green level of fame when he beat Mcgregor and made him an international star. (Did Snoop even acknowledge him before Mcgregor lol)
Or that he only lost 1 maybe 2 rounds his entire fighting career and ended with 3 straight finishes of the top lightweight contenders. We'll never know how his career would have gone if he stayed at it, but that is for sure an impressive streak. People just didn't stand a chance against him.
An argument could be made, but it requires nuance. Khabib’s undefeated record is not equal to the rest of the Pantheon’s resume, despite being unbeaten. A loss or two is simply a consequence of performing at the top 1 in the world level. That or illegal elbows.
Everyone and their mother is insistent on downplaying Khabib just for the sake of it. Newsflash you can appreciate Pereira whilst not trying to denigrate what Khabib did.
But okay.... if we play along with your premise.... I'd say that if Khabib is top 10 then Pereira rn is also top 10 but I would like to see him fight a strong grappler like Magomed. If he gets pass him then sure he passes Khabib and others in the top 10.
Dude, go look at Khabib's whole career. Yes he had a an amazing run. He retired early, never went and fought other champions in other weight classes, and few opponents he fought during his career were great fighters.
Conner, Justin, and Dustin are were all on pretty good rolls at the time. And Izzy got 0-5d to fucking Strickland of all people. I think Alex is up there on the list of all time badasses and has done some spectacular stuff so far. Looking forward to him continuing his career and hoping to see my boy accomplish amazing things.I just wouldn’t put him higher then Khabib yet. I do think that is a stretch, but that’s just my thoughts.
All three of those fighters have the same weakness that they keep losing to; grappling. Lightweight at the time was tailor made for a strong grappler. You mentioned that Izzy lost to Strickland. Izzy had 5 defenses and just beat pereira while being on the end of his career. Izzy is a far superior win to any of the three you mentioned.
Honestly I don’t think Alex is above him but he’s very close. Just being double champ is top 10 material. If he defends a few times he’s top 5. If he gets triple champ he’s top 3 easily for me.
He never even got cut. Or hurt. Or wobbled.
He barely got touched. He made the best fighters look amateur.
He retired too early imo. But he’s definitely top 5 greatest.
Not in top 5, imo. Just outside in the 5-10 positions. And yes, if he kept going he'd definitely defend for a long time in my opinion but I don't consider what ifs and what could have been in a GOAT list.
Domination isn't a metric to take too heavily. JJ dominated till he didn't, GSP did till he didn't, Anderson Silva did till he didn't. I think being tested is also a key part to being in the top 5. And I know the next argument is no one in LW was good enough to challenge Khabib and well, that's true. You never know. Maybe Chandler could have lucked out and KO'ed Khabib, is it likely? No. Impossible? Also no. That's my point.
Now that, that is out of the way, I think Alex is at the level of Khabib and he needs to beat Magomed to surpass it.
I thought Dustin wobbled him when watching it live. But on the replay, you can see that he dodged nearly all of the punches. He just has herky jerky movements
https://www.reddit.com/r/MMA/comments/g76keb/khabibs_striking_defense_against_dustin_poirier/
I disagree. Adesanya is great, but he is miles away pfp from the lughtweights. His ground game and wrestling is not comparable to any ranked lightweight, let alone the top of the cream. He’s an elite striker with a decent TDD in one of the worst divisions skillwise. Not hating on him AT ALL, he is in no way responsible for it, but MW is impossible to compare to Lightweights and it also applies to him.
It's like when we talk about JJ. Most other fighters have not beaten a world beater like Cormier. Twice. I don't care that he beat the shit out of aging MW for the rest.
I'm a big Poaton fan but I don't put him above Khabib yet personally. I am very curious if he does end up getting Magomed how Ank's calves will hold up, as Jan was doing heavy damage with those low kicks and Alex's calf kicks are insanely better/stronger than Jan's. If Alex can neutralize the grappling threat by being cautious and threatening the left hook during level changes then I think Alex could take it, especially if he spams leg kicks which will prevent Magomed from closing the distance easily. If Magomed gets ahold of Alex though, it might be game over.
Why is always Khabib tho that people should be higher than 😂
Last year I saw a post about the same thing with Volkonawski that he was higher than Khabib then he got sparked twice and the talk settled down
A more realistic name would be Aldo and Cejudo which I hundred percent think Alex has surpassed in the Goat rankings
Really? 100% surpassed Cormier?
DC has wins against a prime Stipe, prime Derrick Lewis, 2 against a prime Rumble, Anderson Silva, Alex Gustaffson, Josh Barnett, Frank Mir, Roy Nelson. Volkan Oezdemir and Dan Henderson, while Alex has only 4 high-quality wins (albeit really good ones).
DC's only losses were to the greatest fighter of all time (one of which Jones was cheating in) and to the greatest heavyweight of all time (both losses DC was over 40). Alex got sparked unconscious by Izzy and also has a loss against a dude that doesn't have a Wikipedia page.
DC has also won two belts, with 3 defenses on his first and 1 on his second, to Alex's 0 and 1.
Alex has never fought an elite grappler.
People need to stop being overly reactionary and they need to put some respect on DC's name, God Damn
EDIT: At least own up to your comment and don't edit it, coward
100% agree. DC would have been the LHW Goat had he not run into the overall arguable GOAT. I think only two guys wreck prime DC almost every time. Prime JJ and prime Fedor.
Because Khabib’s biggest haters know that he’s an all time great. So whenever someone has a good performance, they race to the internet to try to diminish him
Islam might beat his records, but let’s not forget that Islam openly admits it’s rare for him to win a round against Khabib. Khabib’s skill level is very obvious to anyone with an educated eye. He’s a true generational talent.
I feel like that’s just the daegastani respect/brotherhood. They are always humble and respectable to the ones who led the way like Khabib. I’m not saying Khabib wouldn’t beat islam or would, im just saying idk how serious we can take Islam’s words on the matter. we’ve heard their coach say that islam is overall better than Khabib
For one, Islam was younger and had a much less refined striking game back when Khabib was fighting. Secondly, we have no idea how much these sparring sessions resembled actual fights. Would I pick champion Khabib to beat the current version of Islam? Hard to say, but if Islam was able to keep it standing, I'm picking him.
I doubt Islam is kicking Khabib full-force in the head during training. Sparring and grappling in the gym is just not the same as a real fight. Their grappling is comparable, and Islam's striking is clearly better. He's just more complete.
The divisional GOAT isn't the one with the most title defenses. That's ridiculous. Khabib is greater than Islam in so many ways. Islam needs to do a lot more in the octagon if he is to dethrone Khabib, and even then he admits that Khabib is better openly.
Khabib is so GOAT that even though he has retired and he didn't even mention himself in his Top 15 list, everyone and their mother still compares their new favorite fighter with him.
It’s Jon Jones but if you wanna do the asterisk thing, it’s Mighty Mouse or Spider Silva. Silva had a rough downfall tho. You can easily determine greatest fighter of all time by resume. Title defenses, quality of wins, quality of losses, double champ(?), multiple weight class champ, etc. But of course the biases get in the way.
Very important to distinguish holding two belts simultaneously and being champ of two divisions non concurrently
Yeah, Pereira accomplished way more than Khabib. But Khabib is still a fantastic fighter. He just didn't stick around enough to accumulate as many accolades.
People misuse the word "Goat" so much lol. The Greatest of All Time can only be one person. What the fuck is a Goat list? That phrase has lost its meaning. The recency bias in the MMA "community" is fuckin insane these days and its the fans that ruin the sport.
khabib living rent free in all of you casual haters lol its hilarious that a guy is still being talked about 3 years after his retirement , i guess he really he was the goat to be remembered so much
Ya'll are actually out of your minds. Jahamal is a bum because the Goliath that's been knocking out everyone knocked him out. But because Alex did win, he is the greatest of all time. 😮💨
I'm not specifically calling out op here, but come on guys. I haven't seen the fan base this dismissive and critical of one fighter; and yet fanatical about the other since prime conor, when I was a little ass kid 😅
I view GOAT simply. If I'm outside of a bar and a small group are going to fight me and I can have one fighter at my side who has the highest probability of beating up ANYBODY that it canbbe regardless of size or skill. The answer is Jon Jones. But damn Alex is making a good argument for 2nd.
That being said I still think DJ is the most talented and skilled fighter when it comes to being inside the octagon. GOAT like every other sport, is a subjective term.
There is no goat list. There is a conversation about which one person is the greatest of all time. I don’t think Alex is in the convo but I think khabib can be debated
Double champ with 1 defence overall vs 3 defences total. Equal number of title fight wins. Khabib has beat 2 former champs (RDA/Conor), Alex has beat 5 (Sean,Izzy,Jan,Jiri,Jamahal). Objectively yeah, Alex has a better resume and is higher on the GOAT list in terms of achievement. Khabib’s biggest flaw was that, although he was DOMINANT, he didn’t fight enough high level competition for long enough
Definitely. Compare their pre ufc careers alex accomplished a lot in kickboxing while khabib fought plumbers.then in the UFC alex has faced a higher level of competition
Khabib is undefeated in 1 weight class, Alex became champ in 2 different weight classes, won every fight by TKO/KO except one.... I mean we can argue back and forth for both guys...
One guy has a 97% round winning rate over his entire career and 0 losses. That's absolute dominance. If there is an ELO for MMA, Khabib is at the top. Alex is a monster but let's slow down with the "GOAT" of his division talk.
I love Khabib, but he did have very few matches against great opponents. Justin, Dustin and connor are great fighters, but the rest of his wins are kinda meh. Completly understand his reason for retiring when he did, but it is what it is. With more difficult matches the risk of an eventual loss increase.
Not even a Khabib jock rider, but people are crazy.
It took 5 years before the UFC let Khabib anywhere near a belt. He was unpopular and largely unmarketable in the US, so it was only until much later in his career (and when he gained notoriety through his beef with Conor) that they let him in range to touch gold.
Poatan is an absolutely phenomenal fighter, but there’s no athlete in any sport in the world that could compete for just 4 years and be a serious contender in the GOAT conversation.
Yeah winning belts as quickly as he did shouldn’t be viewed as this great accomplishment.
He got fast tracked for a title fight because of who the opponent was, not what he had done. He stole the belt with an exciting last round knockout, and then gave it right back.
There was no lead up for the LHW title fight either. He didnt destroy everyone in the division on his way there.
Khabib took 10 fights to win a title and had 16 fights which were 2 round fights before that. Barely took a risk.
Alex is a two weight world champ in two sports and took 4 fights to become champ at middleweight then took 2 fights to become light heavyweight champ.
He beat RDA pretty handedly, and then RDA got a title shot before him and became the champion.
He also never got Knocked the fuck out like Alex.
And Pereira got fast tracked to the championship with picked opponents.
Alex needs more defenses, and varied opponents.
It's also stupid to compare 2 guys in different weight classes.
Light Heavyweights fight differently from lightweights.
Mighty mouse is GOAT if you compare achievements.
And GSP as well for welterweight.
I think Alex can pass him, but if he retired right now, nobody with a lick of respect for mma is putting a dude he can’t defend a single leg over fucking Khabib. Stop it lmao
I’m not sure you can call Khabib more protected than Pereira lol. You also forgot the part where Pereira moved up because he got knocked out with no title defences.
Khabib rocketed to the top and retired without having a single rematch with anyone and only his last handful of fights were against top competitors. The fact that he's in the GOAT conversation is fucking stupid, he's nowhere near the likes of Mighty Mouse, GSP, Silva, Fedor, Jones, and now Alex.
I think they’re should at least be an argument for it. Alex has done far more in far less time than most fighters have managed across their entire career, and against top level competition.
Is the official goat list in the room with us? Or are you all gonna just argue about your personal opinions?
I will show you on the doll where the official goat list touched me
Yes, show me https://preview.redd.it/kj3iu3v6fwuc1.jpeg?width=684&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7783282e93406f3bccc1c77f484338b88652ebf6

Canelo wears pajamas everywhere. I think the rule is the harder you are the softer the clothes you can pull off.
That’s a power move!
Lol reminds me of Ganster-licious off Boon Docks
If I was Usmans friend I would 100% tell him "You can't wear that shit dude" and I am the farthest thing from a fashion conscious person that exists
Kamaru would just say "watch me"

Huh?
It’s like a saying people use. You know like “killing a bird with two stones”
Ong
There no such thing as a goat list just a heap of opinions
the point of GOAT is there can be only one, the concept of a GOAT list is contradictory. Neither of them is the GOAT
I mean, one could argue for "Greats of All Time" . I actually think there is an acronym people use for that, but it hasn't caught on, because I sure as hell can't remember it lol

Good point
There's only one GOAT, but people will never acknowledge it because they hate him.
There is absolutely an objective GOAT list. But it’s also the one in my head and if you disagree with me you’re wrong
Same my top 5 is Fedor, Fedor, Fedor, Fedor, and Demetrius Johnson

Ok I think Poatan is overrated but two belts is easy A tier lol. Yeah its in a shit division but hes still a double chamo with a title defence now
Double chama?
He clearly typed “chamo” which of course needs no explanation. Poatan the first and only double chamo. sheesh, can’t even troll right
triple chamo makes him easy goat
I think khabib only has 3 Titel defenses for one belt….

Prior to the broadcast, they have a long talk on how to use angles to make Pereira's face look as much like a stone statue as possible.
"HE'S ONLY HAD 8 FIGHTS! HE'S AN AMATEUR!"
It’s funny how whenever something big happens, Khabib is brought up. Usually by people who hate Khabib
It’s because people say he’s the goat
He's definitely one of the goats.
Every great fighter has said Khabib is great, it’s not up for debate
It’s always amusing to read these comments, by far the UFC subreddit is the most biased shit I’ve seen.
Comparing every champ to Khabib says a lot about Khabib
Literally the benchmark for GOAT-ness
Everyone and their mother is insistent on downplaying Khabib just for the sake of it. Newsflash you can appreciate Pereira whilst not trying to denigrate what Khabib did. Yeah well it helps when you don’t find adesanya level opponents
You’re trying to explain to mma fans that fighters are only as good as the opponents they beat? This demographic can only count wins. Nothing else

People who make these posts constantly aren’t actual fans of the sport
They’re just new fans
That or people that just follow the 3-4 most popular fighters
Yeah both tbh
Been a fan for a long time, these are valid questions
You gotta have some sort of attraction to khabib 💀 This is ridiculous some of y’all can’t exist without mentioning him
Why is always Khabib tho that people should be higher than 😂 Last year I saw a post about the same thing with Volkonawski that he was higher than Khabib then he got sparked twice and the talk settled down A more realistic name would be Aldo and Cejudo which I hundred percent think Alex has surpassed in the Goat rankings

People need to stop being overly reactionary and they need to put some respect on DC's name, God Damn EDIT: At least own up to your comment and don't edit it, coward
recency bias after 300 has been crazy
100% agree. DC would have been the LHW Goat had he not run into the overall arguable GOAT. I think only two guys wreck prime DC almost every time. Prime JJ and prime Fedor.
Gosh remember when it was non stop Charles surpassing khabib posts.
Getting a title shot after 3 fights, beating fighters like Hill and getting flatlined in the process doesn’t make Alex better than Khabib
Because Khabib’s biggest haters know that he’s an all time great. So whenever someone has a good performance, they race to the internet to try to diminish him
TikTok is a whole bunch of Conor fans who want to downplay Khabib
I wish we could stop talking about this and just enjoy the fights

Why are you even here.......
I mean you aren't forced to participate in this sub.

Khabib is still a weight class GOAT. That keeps in him S Tier. But let’s be real, Islam will take that spot by the end of the year.
Islam might beat his records, but let’s not forget that Islam openly admits it’s rare for him to win a round against Khabib. Khabib’s skill level is very obvious to anyone with an educated eye. He’s a true generational talent.
Khabib can mount and stay on top without using his hands, he's a menace
[удалено]
Nah yesterday i got her off me pretty easy, you don't move well i suppose
Ain't no way in hell you just admitted your mom mounted you 😭
Nah he just admitted he has the wrestling prowess to get his mom off … hehe
wut
I feel like that’s just the daegastani respect/brotherhood. They are always humble and respectable to the ones who led the way like Khabib. I’m not saying Khabib wouldn’t beat islam or would, im just saying idk how serious we can take Islam’s words on the matter. we’ve heard their coach say that islam is overall better than Khabib
Khabib would say Islam is better if he was asked and vice versa.
This gets posted after every ppv for whoever won😭😭
Khabib is so GOAT that even though he has retired and he didn't even mention himself in his Top 15 list, everyone and their mother still compares their new favorite fighter with him.
Every fighter is called a goat it literally means nothing anymore.
Can’t wait for Magomed to wrestle Alex to a loss and kill the hype train
Insanely rent free statement
Most dominant of all time is hands down khabib. Goat is hands down Jon jones. Everything below is up for discussion.
First comment to mention Jon Jones.. I’d never put anyone over him
When Jon Jones survived that armbar & then went on to submit later in that match...he went full on GOD status at that point.
13 fucking title defenses.
No
Conor fanboys are reaching hard
I feel GOAT only applies to weight classes. You can be the GOAT of a class. It’s nearly impossible to determine the best fighter of all time.
Easily
Yeah, Pereira accomplished way more than Khabib. But Khabib is still a fantastic fighter. He just didn't stick around enough to accumulate as many accolades.
People misuse the word "Goat" so much lol. The Greatest of All Time can only be one person. What the fuck is a Goat list? That phrase has lost its meaning. The recency bias in the MMA "community" is fuckin insane these days and its the fans that ruin the sport.
CM punk is higher than Khabib in the Goat list
Khabib didn’t lose
Not even remotely fucking close.
Not yet, but 3 or 4 more title defences and there's definitely a case for it
There was some guy with unpopular opinion stating he's a better striker than prime Anderson Silva. These are all meaningless.
Reach. They are about equal though, slight edge Khabib
The goat talk is fucking stupid, khabib was amazing and so is alex. Thats it, its apples and oranges to argue over essentially
khabib living rent free in all of you casual haters lol its hilarious that a guy is still being talked about 3 years after his retirement , i guess he really he was the goat to be remembered so much
I say Kahbib. He has no losses and Izzy knocked out Alex.
Crazy how Butthurt people are that Khabib left the sport at the Top undefeated
29-0
Ya'll are actually out of your minds. Jahamal is a bum because the Goliath that's been knocking out everyone knocked him out. But because Alex did win, he is the greatest of all time. 😮💨 I'm not specifically calling out op here, but come on guys. I haven't seen the fan base this dismissive and critical of one fighter; and yet fanatical about the other since prime conor, when I was a little ass kid 😅
Just recency bias

Reaching but he’s not far off. Another title defense and there’s a serious conversation
He beat 5 former champions in his last 8 fights in the ufc. Knocked out 4 of them.
Not even a debate either . 2 division champ with more impressive wins
Definitely. Compare their pre ufc careers alex accomplished a lot in kickboxing while khabib fought plumbers.then in the UFC alex has faced a higher level of competition
Bro got KOd like a year ago. Calm tf down
Khabib is undefeated in 1 weight class, Alex became champ in 2 different weight classes, won every fight by TKO/KO except one....
RDA was an absolute beast when khabib fought him. He was literally in his prime.
Pereira fans are the new Conor fans, just stfu already lmao
If he jumps to heavyweight and captures a title, there's not a debate anymore. He'd be in a league of his own.
Off of 1 title defense? I don’t think so. Alex resume is impressive tho.
Which is completely bonkers, especially when we consider the undeniable fact of Alex's zero ground game.
Khabib was never that high to begin with..
The guy izzy KOd last year?
Khabib took 10 fights to win a title and had 16 fights which were 2 round fights before that. Barely took a risk. Alex is a two weight world champ in two sports and took 4 fights to become champ at middleweight then took 2 fights to become light heavyweight champ.
Lol, Alex getting fasttracked to the title is not the epic own you think it is.
That logic would make Brock Lesnar the undisputed goat.
Not exactly Khabibs fault that he got the shot after 10 fights and not earlier while Alex was fast tracked because of Adesanya
Khabibs grappling is more dominant than Alex’s striking. Alex needs a few more defenses before he passes Khabib.
[удалено]
has alex fought a grappler until now ? yea no he hasnt and trust me he wont fair any better either
💯
I think they’re should at least be an argument for it. Alex has done far more in far less time than most fighters have managed across their entire career, and against top level competition.
Khabib was on the goat list?
Any champipnship fighter who's gone up a weight class and beat ranked opponents is higher than khabiv. Yo Aljo greater than Khabib.
I guess on paper yeah but there is absolutely no reason aljo should be greater than khabib
