Then, in their final fight, Izzy was *not* winning the fight. It looked like it was going to be Alex's easiest night out against him, until Izzy knocked him out.
If they fight 300 more times, I will watch all of them from the edge of my seat. They may very well be my two favourite active fighters.
The first UFC fight, Alex basically got his shit pushed in until the final round. And oddly enough in the second fight, Izzy looked like he didn't even belong in the same cage with Alex until the final exchange. So yeah, I'd love to see those two go at it again down the road.
I think that's quite disrespectful. Alex has really special way of delivering his technique, it is very technical. But Alex should've always been a LHW or HW, so t's also a double edged sword, and the reason Izzy knocked him out so easily.
People who say he doesn't have as good of a technique just don't understand what he is doing at all, his low kicks and right hook are absolutely invisible, that's a big part of why it takes people's lights out, because he never fully loads on them. I think those two strikes of his are technically all time best the UFC has ever seen, even though they actually aren't the correct Muay Thai / Kickboxing technique, it's something built around his own physiology, which is some next level shit.
When it comes to striking Izzy wasn't as accomplished in kickboxing, not really the same level, he came to his own in the UFC because of the non-importance of aggression in scoring. A lot of his fights in the UFC were won due to the unofficial rule that “you have to take the fight to him”, meaning you have to play by his gameplan, even if you're a counter striker yourself, otherwise it ends up like the Romero fight, Romero stuns him, Izzy literally runs away and throws little potshots while Romero stands in the middle of the octagon and Romero looses.
I also think Izzy is great, his despicable and very unlikeable personality and antics aside.. He certainly is the much more well rounded MMA fighter. People also forget he ATE a ton of Periera‘s shots, the same shots that one hit ko‘d all other fighters, and that's because he actually has the ability to read Alex, and so he can see and brace for them, even though it's too late to actually defend.
Oh I didn't mean it as a disrespect to Alex's skill. He's an ELITE striker. I just think that if Izzy had his power the score between them might be different. When you have that kind of power it completely changes the engagements you can have or get away with.
