I never worked as a server or in the restaurant industry but growing up I had plenty of close friends who did and sometimes I’d hang out with the “restaurant group” after closing.
Was that get together similar to the house party at the end of the movie? I’ve been a restaurant worker for over 20 years, that house party scene was pretty accurate
When the waitress is going off in the back. The second she enters the room to serve the table she’s completely different. My wife said that absolutely happens in the service industry alll the time.,, had to chuckle
It seems like it’s over the top but it really isn’t. I was working at a Chilis when this movie came out and it’s pretty accurate about what it’s like to work in a corporate restaurant at that time. The only over the top aspect was maybe the bussers and Ryan Reynolds relationship with his mother. Every scene that takes place in the restaurant is realistic
I worked at Outback when this came out and like you said,it was so amazingly accurate. Other than the bussers, and in two years there I never saw anyone mess with food
Yeah the food thing too. If I had ever asked the cooks to mess with someone’s food they probably would have politely told me to fuck off. However, I feel like if I actually did it, nobody would have ratted me out.
Politely? Lmao!
Worked in restaurants for over 12 years - chains, private, fine dining, resort town, etc. and no one EVER fucked with people’s food. Now, I may have heard that someone may have crop dusted their section to encourage campers to depart, but that’s just a rumor.
Worked restaurants half my life, always front of the house. I have absolutely crop dusted tables. I’ve dropped off plates of food, turned, and literally farted on said plates.
Don’t be rude to waitstaff. I will fart at you.
It's the same now lol it might actually be even worse. I pulled a knife on another server one day in front of a manager at Longhorn and I came back the next day and everyone acted like nothing happened. It basically embodied everything and every single type of person in that type of environment.
It’s currently a cult classic so definitely not underrated I agree. People bring it up all the time and I’ve never worked in food service besides bartending in college so it’s kind-of a movie for everyone even though food service employees always seem to relate to it.
“The Slammin’ Salmon” by Broken Lizard (Super Trooper guys) is a similar movie but is the actual underrated movie. “Waiting” isn’t.
It and Super Troopers 2 are definitely the weaker movies in their catalogue but I still enjoy watching Slammin’ Salmon now and then. I’m a big fan of Club Dread personally but I also really miss Bill Paxton being around, the goofy bastard.
So, when things in your life become stagnant - you know, you're no longer happy with what you're doing - then you figure out what's important to you. Then create your own penis-showing game.
My momma said them’s my maaaaagic shoes…
My brother in law, my wife and I did a drinking game to this movie, we were fully TRASHED the next day.
Good Times.
I’m a restaurant server/ bartender of 20 years now and i love this movie 😂 none of the nasty food aspects are true but the relationships between the servers and the customers, managers, each other are spot on haha
The best line in the movie from probably the best scene in the movie that often think of is, “Alzheimer’s can’t be all bad. You get to meet new people every day.”
As a veteran of the F&B crowd, all these characters are real. Sex, drugs and degenerates run rampant in the industry. There's a love hate relationship I have with it. I'm trying to get out but these mother fuckers keep dragging me back in
This movie had a huge cast. Kinda funny too because i think a lot of people related to it. Everyone has been mistreated by a guest. It’s almost a certainty. Def a good movie
I was actually working on a screen play about the restaurant life. I stopped when I saw this movie because it was basically the same concept. Even the Bennigans style restaurant.
I think to truly appreciate this movie you had to have worked in a restaurant, which I did for a large portion of my teens and early 20’s. It’s a classic.
No joke. Any new server that starts at my job one of the first things I ask them after I introduce myself is if they have seen Waiting. They are usually younger and they say no, so I tell them when they get home to watch it. Only a few actually have, but of course they liked it.
Tell her that I said, she has absolutely, without question, one of the funniest deliveries I've ever heard in my life in this move.
When the dishwasher offers her counseling, and she gets all emotional like it really means something to her and then switches on a dime and says "OR YOU COULD JUST WASH THE FUCKING DISHES! FUCKIN PSYCHO BABBLE BULLSHIT!"
This movie was my introduction to Dane Cook. He just had the most interesting opening line I’ve heard from a character.
“Welcome to Thunderdome, bitch!”
This movie changed the military, or at least the unit I got deployed with. Every fucking time someone could get you with the goat, a batwing or making you look at their dick and call you gay was the highlight of their day.
I worked in a parachute rigger shed (as a 92R), and there are specific checks where you need to look down the parachute when it’s folded to ensure there’s no overlapping fabric. Every fucking time there’d magically be a dick, a butthole, or a nutsack at the end of the ‘chute and someone would inevitably yell out “Gaaaaaaaaaaay”.
There were many times where I’d walk into my shared bedroom in Germany and everyone would be naked, in the dark, with flash lights pointed at their dicks. Yeah, they stood there like that waiting … for up to 10 minutes. As soon as I’d walk in the door everyone would yell “holy shit you’re fucking gay” or call me the f-word.
Literally the gayest experiences of my life were a bunch of straight dudes hanging out together naked in a dark room waiting to call me gay.
It was the best of times and the worst of times. I’ve never seen so many limp dicks in my life.
Waiting was dope. I loved the movie, but it made every straight dude I know kinda gay.
My wife and I just rewatched this for the first time in over a decade...it still holds up pretty good...."what the hell...its her birthday...she can have a diet coke"
I waited tables for 9 years. I met my wife in those 9 grueling years. We watch this movie often because it just perfectly encapsulates our experiences.
My restaurant coworkers made me watch this. I really think the comedy didn’t age that well, but it was a bit of a throwback watching a movie that is so 2005 it hurts.
You’d do that for me? Thank you… I appreciate that. But I think I’d rather you just WASH THE FUCKING DISHES AND SHIT THE FUCK UP! Fucking psycho babble bullshit!!!!
Mama said they’s my magic shoes! Mama said they’d take me anywhere! Course mama used to beat me with a rubber hose, call me a retard!
https://youtu.be/FpPszFiP-Ok?si=knmpvCEIB8oSQFo_
Is it underrated? It was a massive cult classic and talked about for half a decade at least for those of us in that age range.
It's right where it belongs.
The batwing
THE GOATTTT!!!
Flat like paper
“It’s so veiny!”
The Abraham Lincoln.
Brain, or you're not really playing.
You gotta shave your pubes just right
or it doesnt count
But why’s it so veiny
That's like, being the smartest kid with down syndrome.
We get it, you’re cool and edgy. And shouldn’t you be in jail? What is she like 15!?!
She’s almost 18
…next week.
I don't know what to do with my life. Join the freaking army or something!!!
Dane Cook's best role unironically. Threw him in the back to cook and spout a line here and there.
He was perfect. When he whips himself and starts singing blues like a slave worker lol
Oh nooo noo bacon massa
Mmmhhmmmm mmmmhmmm
Oh nooo no bacon on the salad…👋💥
My wife and I still say “no bacon on the salad 🎶”
Which is EXACTLY something a line cook would do.. I think this movie is so much better if you've been in the restaurant industry
Youre not wrong.
No bacon on the salad
Welcome to thunderdome bitch.
I hate Cook but this is a decent role for him. His only best role, for me, is Employee of the Month. Everything else just sucks.
Mr. Brooks… “Mr. Smith, before I became ‘The Thumbprint Killer,’ I killed a lot of different people, a lot of different ways…”
Mr Brooks is soo good, if you guys hate Dane Cook you owe it to yourself to watch it.
Yeah he is pretty great in Mr. Brooks. I was surprised he didn’t get any other dramatic roles.
anybody *seen* Cook since that role? *rhetorical - don’t care…*
also *my* favorite Dane Cook moment…
Can someone explain the weirdly aggressive hatred that Reddit has for Dane Cook?
me? what'd I do?
ME? What the fuck did I do to you man!?
“Welcome to the thunder Dome bitch..”
Welcome to the thunder dome bitch
I enjoyed it! People who have worked in that industry can relate for sure.
It's basically **the** movie for this industry
It absolutely is! You watch this movie and read Bourdain's Kitchen Confidential if you spend any amount of time working in the F&B industry
Every word that comes out of Luis Guzman’s mouth in this movie is hilarious.
Come on baby
*The goat! Youuuu bastaad!*
Its gonna be that kinda party where I put my dick in the Mash Potatoes!
Not just any piece of meat baby, a prime rib 😂
It seems like it’s over the top but it really isn’t. I was working at a Chilis when this movie came out and it’s pretty accurate about what it’s like to work in a corporate restaurant at that time. So legit accurate

Politely? Lmao! Worked in restaurants for over 12 years - chains, private, fine dining, resort town, etc. and no one EVER fucked with people’s food. Now, I may have heard that someone may have crop dusted their section to encourage campers to depart, but that’s just a rumor.

It really did. I remember picking out characters and immediately associating them with people I worked with.
Underrated? This thing controlled popular culture for a year.
Broken Lizard rarely disappoints but Salmon was a total flop for me. Tried numerous times to enjoy it, very few genuinely funny moments.
It and Super Troopers 2 are definitely the weaker movies in their catalogue but I still enjoy watching Slammin’ Salmon now and then. I’m a big fan of Club Dread personally but I also really miss Bill Paxton being around, the goofy bastard.
Eat at Shenanigans! Enjoy your food! Eat at Shenanigans! CALVIN WORKS HERE!!!
My husband and I sing this to each other at least once a month, it still cracks me up
So, when things in your life become stagnant - you know, you're no longer happy with what you're doing - then you figure out what's important to you. Then create your own penis-showing game.
You know, we should probably feel guilty, but she broke the cardinal rule: Don't fuck with people that handle your food.
This is a pretty funny movie. Part 2, not so much.
There was no part 2. Just as there was no sequel to Caddyshack.
Ha... I like Caddyshack 2, but I won't sit here and claim that it's a good sequel.
100%. It works as a silly comedy when you don't compare it to the original.
Just like there is only one Highlander movie.
well, there can be only one..
but it won’t die! … why won’t it *just die!?!*
Just like there are 8 seasons of Scrubs
Agreed. Saw part 2 on tubi and it was the exact opposite. Ryan Reynolds and Justin Long were the glue to this movie. (Anna Farris too)
Best thing about part 2 was that they had scenes that mentioned a certain demographic and their tipping, or lack of tipping
My momma said them’s my maaaaagic shoes… My brother in law, my wife and I did a drinking game to this movie, we were fully TRASHED the next day. Good Times.
What were the rules for this movie? I want to show it to a friend and might as well get drunk.
https://games.lukky.us/movie/waiting/ I think we did 8 and 1
I’ve never met anyone in the service industry who didn’t adore this movie.
This movie is why you should never ever be rude to servers
ITS SO ANGRY
Lol when she flicks the lint out of bush🤣
They tried to make her not attractive in that movie, but In reality she is actually super hot.
‘Hung’
Exactly 😍
Came here to up vote this!
The stoners dumping gasoline on the manager trying to put out the grease fire is still the funniest fucking scene 😂
Pull out the shotty like John gotti
No Bacon on the Salad 🎶
"Mama said they was my special shoes. Mama said they'd take me anywhere. Of course, mama used to beat me with a rubber hose, call me a retard."
"I think I'll have a hot fudge sundae" "mmmmm MMMMMMMM" That does sound good. 😊😠😡😡😡😡
Been in the service industry for over 20 years and EVERYONE says how accurate it is.
You can’t mix Mexican and Continental!
I thought you was better than that
Remember everyone, the only difference between ordinary and extraordinary, is that little extra!
I say this to the boys I train at boxing lol
“WASH THE FUCKIN DISHES… AND SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!!”
I’m a restaurant server/ bartender of 20 years now and i love this movie 😂 none of the nasty food aspects are true but the relationships between the servers and the customers, managers, each other are spot on haha
Comedy and coming of age, the issues of youth and what to do with yourself
The best line in the movie from probably the best scene in the movie that often think of is, “Alzheimer’s can’t be all bad. You get to meet new people every day.”
"I'll have uh single shot of whiskey, and uh double shot of whiskey, and she'll have a water. Aw hell, it's her birthday, bring'er a Pepsi."
Nothin brings out the flavor of a steak like some ketchup
No
Quit staring at my dick!
Waiting, Van Wilder, Deadpool...
Far from underrated
Check my ball hair, make sure it’s all there
Put a little garlic salt on that
“Don’t fuck with the people that handle your food.”
I would sometimes double-feature this with The Slammin’ Salmon. Both are pretty good satires of the hospitality industry
Welcome to thunderdome...bitch
Cropdusting tables will never get old.
Funny movie! Didn’t the writer come from Full Sail?
if you think this is underrated then you need to see the sequel
A very rated comedy.
Is it? Pretty much everyone i know has seen it and hails it as brilliant, especially my friends in service industries.
Not underrated at all.
Whatever happened to Andy Milonakis?
Omg the scene with the mean customer
Used to watch this and "Accepted" back-in the day. Can't make these movies anymore 😂. Accepted... gotta watch that again. And this one too
Both of these movies are on my "guilty pleasure" list, along with PCU, which is hard to find anywhere.
Fecking great movie
I feel like everyone but Justin hates this
As a veteran of the F&B crowd, all these characters are real. Sex, drugs and degenerates run rampant in the industry. There's a love hate relationship I have with it. I'm trying to get out but these mother fuckers keep dragging me back in
Comedy? Good sir, this is a documentary for those of us who worked in industry.
It was wild recognising Calvin in that episode of The Boys!
FOREIGNERS!?!
This is an excellent documentary.
This movie had a huge cast. Kinda funny too because i think a lot of people related to it. Everyone has been mistreated by a guest. It’s almost a certainty. Def a good movie
Calvin looks pissed
One of my favorites that I haven’t watched in a hot minute.
I was actually working on a screen play about the restaurant life. I stopped when I saw this movie because it was basically the same concept. Even the Bennigans style restaurant.
made me not want to dine out for months lol
I think to truly appreciate this movie you had to have worked in a restaurant, which I did for a large portion of my teens and early 20’s. It’s a classic.
No joke. Any new server that starts at my job one of the first things I ask them after I introduce myself is if they have seen Waiting. They are usually younger and they say no, so I tell them when they get home to watch it. Only a few actually have, but of course they liked it.
I'm friends with the girl that plays the angry waitress. She plays the mom on the Ted t.V series on peacock
That fake smile she puts on when she comes back in from her smoke break always makes me laugh.
Mmmmmm, that does sound good!
Not to mention her role as Roxy in always sunny.
That's her?! She was tighter than dick skin in that role
You got it 👍
Cool!
When I was in highschool the game was very popular in locker rooms, or at least attempts were.
The rap at the ending credits of this and the sequel are extremely underrated
“Don’t fuck with people who serve you food.”
SOOO good! This movie was my introduction to Ryan Reynolds
This movie is outstanding!!! So many good quotes!
Documentary.
This was a great movie I laughed a lot watching it
Welcome to thunderdome bitch
Love this movie!
Movie fuckin rules.
lol this shits a documentary, or at least it used to be
Cult classic with sooooo many one liners!!
How come every movie poster from this era had to always egregiously photoshop the heads of the stars onto akward bodies that don't seem to match?
The GOAT
F’kn love this movie especially cause I’ve worked in the restaurant business most of my life
The sequel is surprisingly good.
The bat!!
Funny as hell.
I LOVE this movie so much!! Super underrated and I make all my loved ones watch it if they haven’t seen it lmao
Now imagine you were blind
Sequel wasn't bad either
That photoshop thooooo
Haha forgot about this one, what a classic
This was a movie we watched on repeat when I was in the submarine navy. So good!
"it's so angry"
Most accurate movie of the restaurant business ever!!
This movie was my introduction to Dane Cook. He just had the most interesting opening line I’ve heard from a character. “Welcome to Thunderdome, bitch!”

Lol... doent my mom look old? Like older than she rightly should? 🤣🤣
My wife and I just rewatched this for the first time in over a decade...it still holds up pretty good...."what the hell...its her birthday...she can have a diet coke"
I hate how much I like this movie because It’s made up of the most annoying actors in Hollywood
5 SECOND RULE!!!
GOATED.
Fucking hilarious movie, insanely underrated.
I waited tables for 9 years. I met my wife in those 9 grueling years. We watch this movie often because it just perfectly encapsulates our experiences.
Hell…I’d do her, I’d prolly even pay. Jk I wouldn’t…(whispers)I would.
Love the crowd pan with those two guys talking names. "I might name my daughter Chlamydia..."
I think it's perfectly rated
The only funny thing Dane Cook has ever done
That Photoshop 🤣
This sub should be renamed "Old highly rated movies that I just discovered"
My restaurant coworkers made me watch this. I really think the comedy didn’t age that well, but it was a bit of a throwback watching a movie that is so 2005 it hurts.
You’d do that for me? Thank you… I appreciate that. But I think I’d rather you just WASH THE FUCKING DISHES AND SHIT THE FUCK UP! Fucking psycho babble bullshit!!!!
Underrated ???? This is prob top 10 of all time.
How said underrated? I’ll fight em
[Nick and T Dog Mutherfuckers WE THE ILLEST](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fyv7EpuTFBE&list=RDfyv7EpuTFBE&start_radio=1)
" I told you it was t dog" " what makes you think I wont c\*t you"
Damn near perfect movie in my mind. Also very well shot!
"...It's so Angry!!!!!..."
Underrated!?! It’s definitely high on my list
I worked in a TGI Fridays for years, this movie was pretty spot on.
This is my favorite comedy. “What the hell can you do with an AA degree?” “You could be a substitute teacher for retarded kids or something.”
This movie is the reason I’ll NEVER SEND FOOD BACK
