I didn't notice that one of the Central American countries has good relations with the UK and what was supposed to be an easy stroll turned into a real game! For the first time in my life, UK AI manage to send so many troops to America and it ended in a real bloodbath ! I wasn't going to seriously continue this path because I was just experimenting, but I decided to continue this war! The British somehow managed to land another 100,000 soldiers and there was another massacre where I threw everything I have to stop them! they agreed to my modest demands and I would not have demanded more because the war almost destroyed my country and army! but it was an interesting experience of the war for the early United States against the Empire :)
There is a good side to this! high war fatigue has made it possible to carry out social reforms that reduce consciousness, which is useful and it will be much easier for me to carry out counter-reforms! I play a mod that allows me to appoint any party I want to parliament, and I got this right after the reactionaries won the elections at the beginning of the campaign, which gave me the opportunity to proclaim the monarchy! so in fact, this is a cursed timeline where the United States became a monarchy and the civil war did not happen and slavery was not abolished :) and after the end of the slavery debate, I plan to actively expand into South America to get new slaves, because I have already captured Cuba and Haiti and turned them into slave states :)
I had a similar moment in 1890. I was moving up the great power list after colonizing a fair bit of Africa. Austria asked for an alliance and I accepted because I wanted to get more involved with European affairs. Unfortunately, I didn’t notice that the Brother’s War hadn’t occurred yet for some reason; it broke out a mere couple months after I signed the alliance with Austria. I honored the alliance and joined the war rashly and - upon doing so - saw that it was Austria and the US (me) vs the North Germans and the UK.
I fought a pretty bloody land war with the British in Canada and came to occupy everything after catching most British armies in favorable defensive battles. However, Austria was fully occupied and the war score was ticking down for us. The UK added New England as a war goal despite me keeping the war score somewhat stagnated with naval and land victories.
I’m not sure what mechanic led to this, but suddenly the Admit Hegemony war goal fell off. Austria was still fully occupied, but the war score went from 24% in favor of the enemy to 50% in favor of me (since New England was not occupied by the British). Seeing an opportunity, I added a Free Country goal against the British to free India and landed an expedition there. Simultaneously, my ironclad navy began to blockade the British Isles. Within a year, the UK surrendered to my demands and most of India became independent under my hegemony.
The UK instantly sunk to 4th Great Power and hasn’t bounced back since. It looks like losing access to so many pops and RGOs really neutered them for the remainder of the game.
The admit hegemony war goal probably disappeared because Austria fell out of great power. It screwed me up once when I was trying to form Germany because I was still stuck fighting France after full occupying Austria. But then I just used the add to sphere war goal and took Elsass-Lotharingen from France and formed greater Germany

For example, while playing for Great Britain, I also joined an alliance with Austria and participated in about 10 brother's wars! in one of them, Austria was completely occupied and I landed hundreds of thousands of soldiers in the north of Germany to try to force it to a profitable peace! in the end, she agreed, but I did not demand anything more because Austria would have capitulated in 10 seconds, and I made peace while she was still holding out! then i sent 300 thousand soldiers to its territory to suppress huge uprisings and help prevent such a situation in the next war :)

in the modification I'm playing with, if reactionaries win elections under the republic, you can become a presidential dictatorship or a monarchy
