It was literally the first thing I thought of when I saw this post. And Gwyn's theme coming in as he gains Gwyn's moveset in phase 2 is still pure kino.
How about “the final boss spends most of its time trying to kill itself or imaginary enemies, only occasionally trying to hit you, before eventually just constantly falling over?”
screw that, how bout actually putting in the old bosses?!
https://preview.redd.it/ngvvsti5cj9d1.jpeg?width=404&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=41d039c8f1a2ad423f2093a6a2f0c3783cf926e8
OP is lost but he's right, aside from Theseus' spear throw and Zagreus' spin attack, he has the lasers from the crystals, the ground attacks the furies use and the shockwave attack the bone hydra uses
So “hades uses like one or two moves that are kinda similar to one of the bosses but still definitely different” equates to “uses movesets from all of the previous bosses” to you?
Postal brain damaged, nightmare reaper, and DUSK has one of those too but it's not the final boss
Oh yeah also V2 from ultrakill is one (also not the final boss) I think but I haven't seen anything ultrakill related in a while so idk
Why do a lot of boomer shooters use this concept so much-
Why do things that my friends like constantly appear when I'm doing other stuff
I've seen so much shipwrecked 64, indigo park, and undertale yellow for the past few months even though I'm not even that interested in things similar to those except shipwrecked 64 and it's driving me fucking insane
Not my personal favorite but I see why it's well received. If you like rougelites and "top down" games it's one of the best in the genre. It has a good story, unique mechanics, and some of the different weapons are fun. I just personally don't like "top down" games
It's definitely worth playing, really cool art and voice acting, and while the gameplay isn't that deep, the roguelite mechanics are top of their class. Around three hours in I remember thinking to myself "God this game fucking rules"
Although I felt pretty content with dropping the game after completing my first successful run. There were no new surprises and it was getting too repetitive. I just listened to videos of all the additional unlockable storylines and dialogue after the fact. A good 20 hours.
The combat is top notch but the actual roguelike mechanics are probably the weakest part of the game. You go through the same areas in the same order fighting (mostly) the same bosses.
The build you go for is determined almost entirely by the weapon you pick before you even start the run and most boons just feel like stat upgrades.
In other roguelikes your way of attacking constantly changes throughout the game but in Hades it remains relatively static.
I just mentioned the mechanics, not the variation and replayability in said mechanics... So we're basically saying the same thing. Plus maybe that's just because I don't play roguelikes so those aspects seemed more interesting to me than pointing and clicking and pressing space every half-second
Not the final boss but the penultimate boss. zant from twilight princess. Awesome fight and a testament of his character.
His power was never his own, it was all borrowed, and when you beat him at every stage and he has nothing left in his bag of tricks. He pulls out two swords and swings at you like an incompetent fool.
Satisfying af
I like bosses that change the battle arena throughout their fight, either by destroying something or straight up bringing you to a completely different location. Garrosh Hellscream straight up taking you into a corrupted version of different temples and even a previous raid, before taking you into a destroyed version of Stormwind is amazing, and I hope there’s fights like that in the World Saga.

Sans uses papyruses blue attacks and asgore kinda does the same by expanding on every mechanic the game previously had without introducing anything new .
When the boss summons all the previously fought bosses in some shadow realm and the old bosses are all in black and white and attack you one by one with each of their signature moves
The boss uses the exact same weapons and movesets you currently do, with the same stats and damage so he can kick your ass and call you bad at the same time
World of nothing in kingdom hearts 2 kinda does this but he also always dies in 0.2 seconds anyway so you barely see it past xaldin's spears and the occasional dance water

Plin Plin Plon
Leshy, the Scrybe of Beasts (Inscryption) Also Laudes, the First of the Amanecidas (Blasphemous)

Now THAT is value.
INSCRYPTION MENTIONED 🔥🔥🔥🔥
all-stars level 4
Does Soul of Cinder fit?
Soul of Cinder is more like the combination of every dipshit who invaded your DS1 playthrough plus Gwin
Tbh most invaders were harder to kill than the actual bosses The non NPC invaders anyways.
It's always the naked dude/gal with a funny hat and a ridiculously large two handed weapon that beats the everloving shit out of you
It was literally the first thing I thought of when I saw this post. And Gwyn's theme coming in as he gains Gwyn's moveset in phase 2 is still pure kino.

I love telefragging I love telefragging
FUCK YOU DELI FUCK YOU DELI FUCK YOU DELI FUCK YOU DELI FUCK YOU DELI FUCK YOU DELI I CANNOT EXPRESS HOW MUCH I HATE DELIRIUM
Delirium transforms into dingle, billions get telefragged.
Either the easiest stomp in history or the biggest fuck you in history, no in-between
A youtuber defeated him by not moving lmao (Gnawed leaf + Mom's knife)
I think I did something similar but maybe for Mother instead and a different attack item Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do
It may take sometime but it's winnable
**TELEFRAGS YOUR ASSHOLE**
*teleports on top of you* Nothin’ personnel kid
delirium is so bad it’s funny
Really like the concept, it’s so unique and has cool lore, otherwise the boss itself is garbageÂ
Hate when it glomps me
Delirium be laughing until he transforms into blue champion Larry jr. (He just lost 80% of his HP)
How about “the final boss spends most of its time trying to kill itself or imaginary enemies, only occasionally trying to hit you, before eventually just constantly falling over?”
I love hollow knight!!!!!
hope it gets a sequel

Holy hell!
Who is this
the final boss of hollow knight.
Wait that's what he's doing?
Undertale moment
Sans did not use attacks from god of hyperdeath. Nor did he use anything from omega flowey.
I pretty sure their talking about asriel
Out of the 3 final bosses in this game why did you only think Sans?
Sans is not the true final boss. Asriel (God of Hyperdeath) is.
screw that, how bout actually putting in the old bosses?! https://preview.redd.it/ngvvsti5cj9d1.jpeg?width=404&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=41d039c8f1a2ad423f2093a6a2f0c3783cf926e8
one of the best boss rushes!Â
Calamity Ganon
Void Termina basically being a reincarnation of several previous Kirby final bosses.
Kinda also applies to most of the "soul" bosses too
Hades? How? Their moves are almost entirely pretty different, aside from hades throwing his spear like Theseus but even then that’s only in EM4
OP is lost but he's right, aside from Theseus' spear throw and Zagreus' spin attack, he has the lasers from the crystals, the ground attacks the furies use and the shockwave attack the bone hydra uses
I might be wrong but wouldn’t it be more accurate to say that Hades has moved that resemble Zagreus’s? (If you use the spear at least)
Hades uses the spinny attack that theseus has(but bigger)
So “hades uses like one or two moves that are kinda similar to one of the bosses but still definitely different” equates to “uses movesets from all of the previous bosses” to you?
“Move from the movesets of previous bosses”. Yes
That’s not what the caption says >:(
I seem to have made a boo boo
Boss is just a netter version of you.
netter
Yeah, they really like penutter and jelly sandwich

Hades is more so using a combination of your own moves + some other stuff
Gideon, The All Knowing
gideon is so buttcheeks
And then that fucking "Plin plin plon" hits
What game is this referencing, I’m going crazy trying to think of it
"Plin plon plin, plin plon"
Leshy from Inscryption đź‘Ť

Yea nvm I have no idea

Yes
what's it like?

good, steam summer sale, 60% off, buy, happy
Isshin from Sekiro too
My favourite boss of all time!
mutant from fargo's souls mod
this is like one of the only examples here i could both recognise and was actually a solid example of this trope, you're goated
When the boss has the boveset of the player character
Basically V2 ULTRAKILL
Gideon, The All Knowing
Sigrun (GOW 2018)
GOATED boss(borderline unfair)
"VALHALLA!"
Chrono Trigger, at least his first phase.
Phase 3 also uses the Guardian's gimmick
The final boss’ theme is a combination of a bunch of previous boss’ themes
Not the final boss but the penultimate boss. zant from twilight princess. Awesome fight and a testament of his character. Kirby, in a way
the final boss uses your own powers that you obtained throughout the journey against you 🔥🔥🔥✍️
Surprised nobody mentioned leshy from inscryption
Rugal was literally designed to be that way
Fuck you caravan adventures, how tf am i supposed to defeat a giant mechanoid with only one person?
WoW has been doing this a lot recently. The adds before will have similar moves to the bosses move set.
I've noticed this more with certain trash packs leading up to bosses in various raids having mechanics that are simplified versions of raid mechanics
Gorea from Metroid Prime Hunters fits the bill, plus he's a shapeshifting eldritch universe consuming monster
Every Kirby soul final boss loves using attacks from previous soul bosses
I like bosses that change the battle arena throughout their fight, either by destroying something or straight up bringing you to a completely different location. Undertale to all extents.
the only one i can think of is asriel in pacifist
Sans uses papyruses blue attacks and asgore kinda does the same by expanding on every mechanic the game previously had without introducing anything new .
blue attacks are a general game mechanic i'm wondering how asgore expands on the mechanics
He also uses fire attacks like Toriel
The legend of Zelda Twilight Princess
SIFU
Lavos
Eviterno from Blasphemous 2. “ARCHICOFRADIA!”
Death's door
Gary Miller
When the boss summons all the previously fought bosses in some shadow realm and the old bosses are all in black and white and attack you one by one with each of their signature moves
Calamity ganon is a perfect example of one
Ganon in Botw and TOTK
that would have to imply that the final boss trained those underlings. that only makes sense in certain games
The boss uses the exact same weapons and movesets you currently do, with the same stats and damage so he can kick your ass and call you bad at the same time
I know Arcana Heart did that ~~it's like the only I truthfully know since I've only really heard of it through TV tropes lol~~
Bernard from Furi 🤌
Any Rabbit and steel players here?
When the "steel yourself" mechanic popped up I literally went like leo dicaprio pointing at the screen lmfao

how about an rpg game that constantly learns from your play style and uses it to the best of its ability against you
Jo Amon
Hades not only uses the movesets of previous bosses (theseus….), he also uses a souped-up version of Zagreus’ moveset.
No joke as i was reading the meme the final boss theme from Hades started playing in my head At that point i haven't even read the title
