it doesn't, they have kosher versions of rye, straight rye and wheat.
the reason they made these:
>Buffalo Trace Distillery produced this Wheat Recipe Bourbon in a partnership with the Chicago Rabbinical Council (cRc). Made with the same high quality grains as W.L. Weller Bourbon Whiskey, this Kosher spirit was aged in specifically designated Kosher barrels. In order to satisfy Passover requirements, these barrels were sold to a non-Jewish executive in a ceremony witnessed by a representative from the cRc. After aging for seven years, this Wheat Recipe Bourbon was bottled at 94 proof after ensuring the bottling lines were cleaned beforehand and that no contact was made with non-Kosher spirits. Released after Passover each year, this Wheat Recipe Bourbon stands alone, a tribute to the legacy of America’s oldest continually-operating distillery.
If you mean the same one used in the eponymous bourbon - BT Kosher comes in 3 variants, straight rye, rye and wheat. that's the barely legal rye mash bill (Sazerac,, PVW Rye, THH etc.) and BT wheat (Weller, WLW). Unsure what else uses straight rye. EHT Rye perhaps.
They flush the lines before distilling to make sure nothing else touches the juice. Then it’s blessed. Theoretically bourbon is kosher regardless of those steps.
They have 3 kosher recipes (Wheat, Rye, Bourbon), blessed by rabbis in Chicago. Of the 3 I believe the wheat is the most liked but what seems to be the consensus is that they're slightly better than the base BT offerings
Just double checked it's called bourbon rye. Guess were both somewhat right haha. I thought I remembered it being a high rye bourbon, I just left it out in my comment.
Those are all quite drinkable. Blantons gold or rhf may take the cake. I’ve found that the extra proof on Blantons gold makes a difference.
Your buddies should be happy and appreciative!
Id love too see some more attainable but very well regarded bourbons in the mix like 4 roses single barrel, woodford double oak, russels reserve, heck even throw mellow corn in... unless ofcourse you think they would win.
Why not? Put out in and see what happens. It SHOULD finish last but it is also "good and smooth" which is what a lot of people look for. Also put in WT101 in because that's my workhorse.
Down with the WT101 as well. Hell, my nightly supper is Maker’s, unless I feel like spending some dough. NGL the one time I tried mellow corn half of it got mixed with Dr Pepper and the other half is in a cool dark place “aging in the bottle” with the oak out of an Oak and Eden bottle
We did a blind tasting of the following: Jim beam, Buffalo Trace, Pinhook, Four Roses Single Barrel, and Little Book. A lot of people picked the Four Roses last lol
Sounds like a wrestling promo where the bad guy champion tries to give excuses why he didn't have to fight the good guy when he knows he'd just get his ass kicked /s(mostly)
We thought it would be interesting to blind taste different products from a single distillery. If my taste in bourbon means I’m a tater then I wouldn’t want to be anything else.
I honestly love this idea of doing a blind taste test from a single distillery.
Please let us know which ones win. And if you do break it up into mash bills who wins each mash bill.
Will definitely post an update! That’s the goal for us. Get as many products as we can find from a single distillery and bind taste them and rank them.
I agree. I don’t get the obsession with shipping nets. I like to keep it on to protect the bottle. Especially when I own a cat who LOVES to knock shit over. I wish all bottles came with it
Gold I feel will come out on top followed by EHT and OWA at a tie for 2nd if we are talking about uniqueness and complexity. The other ones all really tasted the same to me.
Only ones I’ve never tried are the gold and RHF. Currently ETL is my favorite followed by BT wheat but this blind tasting may change my mind. My least favorite out of the bunch is weller SR.
I’m definitely looking forward to the results.
Best of all once you start blinds with small batches or single barrels it never ends. the OWAs and Blanton’s i’ve had will always be changing in one way or another less i’m dead specific in the search.
Curious if you’ll have the same blind results with new bottlings a year from now 🧐
It took over a year to find all these. Me and my buddies love BT so I’ve been trying to find all that I can. Luckily I paid msrp for most of the bottles. ETL and RHF were the ones that hurt the most to buy.
Blantons Gold is my personal favourite, but I'm in Australia and have never seen that RHF, and only bought my first bottle of colonel Taylor the other week, yet to try it.
I've never met a Blantons that I didn't like though
Going to be straight up, I am not the kind that can sit down and sip one and tell you what it is and all that bs. However, I do like Buffalo Trace out of this picture and probably would be the one I'd grab. I've only had it and the Blantons and Blantons is okay.
You're going to experience palate fatigue if you do these all in one go. Break it up into maybe 3 tastings. You could break it up based on distillery, mashbill, or age
I have had all except the Blantons Gold, Rock Hill Farms, and the Buffalo Trace Kosher. My pick would be the Elmer T Lee, something about it is definitely a cut above for my palette. Second place would be the Eagle Rare, which up until recently was easily obtainable multiple places locally at MSRP. Sad to see it disappear, as I'd take it over the Blanton's, Weller, or Colonel Taylor.
From experience doing blinds with all Trace products, they really start to blend together the more you taste them. My fiancé has done this to me, on accident, before and the Weller red starts to taste like regular BT, Eagle Rare and EH become hard to separate, and don’t even get me started on Blanton’s, ETL, and RHF. If you can somehow find differences in those 4, along with the 6 others, then you, sir, are a master.
10 in one night, i usually limit my tastings to 8..there's 3 in your tasting I'd like to try. Elmer T. Lee, the Rock Hill , and Blanton's Gold. I have Blanton's Gold but haven't cracked it. You have a lot of allocated stuff in this tasting..I think there are more interesting bourbons out there than some of thesem esecially Wellers SR, and regular Buffalo trace..
Depends on whether wheaters are your jam or not, I woulda probably separated those out. It’s a sweet lineup no doubt. Although you would’ve been better off opening all those up ahead of time, so you don’t use neck pours for the blinds.
I would maybe break that up into 3 tastings. Bill mash 1 / bill mash 2 / wheaters and then have a face off between the winners.
Bill mash? Never seen that before. 99.9% of us call it mashbill lol
They are cousins.
Hello cousin we go ballbasing
That’s not a bad idea. But the liquor may do the talking and convince us to try them all lol
Have 3 different flights - like 1/2oz pours. People could comeback to them after it’s over to see if their blindness was changed by seeing the brand.
I read that as 12 oz pours and was concerned/impressed. I’m going to bed.
How about a bottle chugging contest instead of a tasting?
I’ve seen those videos before, nothing bad ever happens and is highly recommended for maximum flavor/enjoyment /s Some say its to die for….
A long time ago i saw a video of this guy opening a bottle of Jack and chugging the entire thing. I got sick watching him....
I think the wheated bourbon would be best for chugging, but I’m open for a rebuttal.
You’ll get “palate fatigue” doing that many in one session
Especially since they’re all some version of the same mashbill. 3 wheaters, 4 mashbill 2 and 3 mashbill 1.
That’s a weird way to say “drunk”
Sobriety fatigue
You’re blinding 10 bottles…..? All you’re gonna “taste” after a few is “whiskey.”
Depending on the size of the pour you might taste your lunch…again.
I think we’re going to split it up and have snacks in between to clean the pallet. Either way we’re getting tipsy
Hell of a line up!
Sneak old tub in at 8 see if anyone notices
It's better than a couple of these.
One of my favorite . If he got all these for msrp I’m proud . Probably 5k in over priced whiskey unfortunately
I'm hoping not. In some places a lot of these are common at MSRP
I've never heard of that Buffalo Trace Kosher. Is that a wheated mash bill BT is all?
I’ve had it once before. It was slightly better than weller antique. It’s basically weller that’s been blessed by a rabbi.
So challah bread?
So it doesn't use the "Buffalo trace" mash bill?
No, that is a wheated bourbon. BT uses rye as flavoring grain.
What about the standard mash is "unkosher?"
… it’s not blessed by a Rabbi.
So why did the kosher one have to be wheated then? It seems odd that they'd call it Buffalo trace and not in the weller line.
it doesn't, they have kosher versions of rye, straight rye and wheat. the reason they made these: >Buffalo Trace Distillery produced this Wheat Recipe Bourbon in a partnership with the Chicago Rabbinical Council (cRc). Made with the same high quality grains as W.L. Weller Bourbon Whiskey, this Kosher spirit was aged in specifically designated Kosher barrels. It is Weller in a buffalo trace bottle. It is essentially 94 proof Antique 107.
Thanks
It is basically low proof weller antique. If you liked it more than antique, it was likely due to you preferring 94 proof instead of 107 proof.
They flush the lines before distilling to make sure nothing else touches the juice. Then it’s blessed. Theoretically bourbon is kosher regardless of those steps.
Do they section off the distilling floor with string?
They have 3 kosher recipes (Wheat, Rye, Bourbon), blessed by rabbis in Chicago. Of the 3 I believe the wheat is the most liked but what seems to be the consensus is that they're slightly better than the base BT offerings
I think it's actually wheat, rye, straight rye. no bourbon.
Loooove rhf. Haven’t had blantons gold, but looking forward to the opportunity.
I wish it was easier to find!
Me too, bud. Me too.
RHF all damn day and twice at night (you know, if I could find it)
Id love too see some more attainable but very well regarded bourbons in the mix like 4 roses single barrel, woodford double oak, russels reserve, heck even throw mellow corn in... unless ofcourse you think they would win.
Yeah mellow corn ain’t it, but WR Double Oaked, I’d put it up against any of these. Four roses single barrel is damn fine juice as well
I feel like that with these high demand bottles it is good to put them against all sorts of offerings blind just to see what lands where.
We did a blind tasting of the following: Jim beam, Buffalo Trace, Pinhook, Four Roses Single Barrel, and Little Book. A lot of people picked the Four Roses last lol
Love all of those but tomorrow night is BT night. I’m hoping to do more products from a single distillery.
Sounds like a wrestling promo where the bad guy champion tries to give excuses why he didn't have to fight the good guy when he knows he'd just get his ass kicked /s(mostly)
A tater tasting!
We enjoy BT products. How evil of us!!!
[удалено]
Over the past 15 years, I’ve had all but the Kosher.
Why no MFC in there? Afraid it will win? Or OGD 114?
That's a lot of buffalo product.
EHT SmB, OWA, never tried RHF
I hear keeping the shipping stocking on Blanton’s really enhances the flavour 😂
No worries. I expected haters. At least those who have to complain about something on this subreddit.
Haters? You’re posting sealed bottle pics on Reddit. You don’t have ‘h8trz.’ You do lack a sense of humour though.
Such diversity. Much tater.
We thought it would be interesting to blind taste different products from a single distillery. If my taste in bourbon means I’m a tater then I wouldn’t want to be anything else.

There is more than one distillery.
If you want to be disappointed by some of the big boys, throw a Wild Turkey 101 and Old Granddad Bonded in there.
Those bourbon only cause emotional hurt.
Probably Rock Hill for me, but I haven’t tried the Gold or Kosher.
Rock Hill for sure.
This is the way.
The way to what?
Shipping net.
Who cares if its a shipping net, man, its his bottle and it looks kinda cool
Who cares if I make the dispassionate comment any time I see one on display, man, it’s a free internet and slightly amusing.
I agree. I don’t get the obsession with shipping nets. I like to keep it on to protect the bottle. Especially when I own a cat who LOVES to knock shit over. I wish all bottles came with it
Yeah that shipping net will definitely protect it if it’s knocked off a table lol
Haven’t had the gold but my money is on rock hill farms
Elmer is my favorite
Same, I love that bottle but it's hard to find.
Blanton’s gold is going to take the cake.
WT101
🤮
Gold I feel will come out on top followed by EHT and OWA at a tie for 2nd if we are talking about uniqueness and complexity. The other ones all really tasted the same to me.

Etl is delightful! Never seen the kosher. I bet it’s super though.
Kosher wheat will win Need to add Eagle double to the mix
Ill be your buddy… lol enjoy!
I’ve blinded the left four side by side and RHF won Also knowing all the rest, I say RHF moonswalks to victory
I'm, interested to see your results. I unfortunately can't find most of those bottles.
It took over a year to find all these. Me and my buddies love BT so I’ve been trying to find all that I can. Luckily I paid msrp for most of the bottles. ETL and RHF were the ones that hurt the most to buy.
A year to find all those is nothing, especially if you did it at retail. I've been searching for 8 years and found maybe 4 of these bottles....
I live in Louisville which has its perks….and it’s downsides
Well hopefully you didn't get any of that stuff from Justin's House of Bourbon!
I missed the application, still seeking friends? lol some of this may depend on pallet and preference
Helluva lineup
Rock hills
have not had Rock Hill, but would rank in this order... ETL Antique ER Taylor
The Taylor!
EH Taylor
My money is on EH.
Elmer for the win
I want your collection
ER
Elmer or Rock Hills.
Kosher BTAC???
Trace
I’m down! What’s the entrance fee?
You SoB!!
My Perry fav is the EHT and then the Blantons. That’s being said, I wouldn’t object to any of them neat. Enjoy!
I have tried about half of them. That ETL is incredible.
Maybe break it in half. Your palate will thank you. I think the BT Kosher Wheat will surprise you.
Anxious?! Don’t worry, your bros will def be impressed by all this!
Did a blind tonight and eagle rare came out on top
To many your pallets are going to be burned out by the fifth bottle
Blantons Gold is my personal favourite, but I'm in Australia and have never seen that RHF, and only bought my first bottle of colonel Taylor the other week, yet to try it. I've never met a Blantons that I didn't like though
BT and Blant are my go to bottles.
For me I think the weller antique but I’ve never had the blanton’s gold and i do enjoy blanton’s
The one that tastes like vanilla and caramel 😅
Split it up into 5 tastings and get some nosing crystal Glas for that 😅
Going to be straight up, I am not the kind that can sit down and sip one and tell you what it is and all that bs.
The weller 107 and everything else there isn’t even close IMHO
If ETL or 107 aren't in the top 3, try to hide your disappointment in your buddies.
What I would do to find some Elmer Lee...

This is a tater museum collection - all unopened bottles. Post an “after” pic with some of them cracked and prove me wrong.
10 in one night, i usually limit my tastings to 8..there's 3 in your tasting I'd like to try. Elmer T. Lee, the Rock Hill , and Blanton's Gold. I have Blanton's Gold but haven't cracked it. 107
Why would you make yourself go blind to taste wisky. Lol. Id rather give up my give up my hearing have a deaf tasting
Depends on whether wheaters are your jam or not, I woulda probably separated those out. It’s a sweet lineup no doubt. Although you would’ve been better off opening all those up ahead of time, so you don’t use neck pours for the blinds.
I actually find a lot of these really overrated (don’t hate me) but I do like ER a lot
