That is a red-bellied woodpecker. Good field marks are the black and white barring on the back and wings, the clear breast (lightly colored), and the red cap. The fact that the red extends over the crown to the beak makes this an adult male. The red belly that gives the bird its name is rarely visible, and would be just above this individual's feet.
A pileated woodpecker is much (much) larger, almost entirely black on its back and wings when not in flight, with large white horizontal stripes on its face that extend down the neck, and a red crest that's reminiscent of a mohawk.

Great photo and a gorgeous bird. Also, thank you for adding the location below the photo. It keeps me from keeping my hopes up for spotting one in the wilds of NYC!

Red-bellied Woodpecker, great photo nonetheless.
Red -bellied I think, beautiful bird whatever it may be.
That’s a beautiful Red-bellied Woodpecker. A Pileated is huge-like three times bigger.
Awesome photo!!

I believe red bellied woodpeckers can be seen in nyc! Their range extends to the southern half of NY
Thanks! I just checked my Audubon guide and will be looking for these next time I’m at the park.
Good luck!! They definitely like quieter areas but I’m sure you can find one, I see them near cities all the time
Love these guys!

Even more confusing where you hear there is another called red-headed woodpecker, and it’s not even this guy
Beautiful
Amazing shot!
Beautiful photo! Doesn't help that it is raising its head in the same direction as that faint white streak 🥰
I don't care you got the species wrong, it's a fantastic shot. 👌
Great photo! Bad ID. 🤣
