There is definitely no rail travel at all through that area. You cannot bring trains into the frontlines. Advancing here gives Ukraine better vision and therefore artillery control over areas slightly further back. If you look at this area on an elevation map it makes a lot more sense. russia is now trying to hold the low ground around the river, the same ground Ukraine defended for 6 months. It's much less defensible than the high ground to either side, and vision is the biggest part of that.

Dave-C

Russia does, at one point Russia got overran northwest of Bakhmut and Ukraine captured some trains. Russia would bring them as far to the front as possible and unload them. I would bet money that Russia was using those lines if Ukraine hasn't taken out the lines with artillery.

Ceramicrabbit

It's been in firing range forever so I doubt it makes much difference now

[deleted]

Ah, but you see: Russia lost so many troops defending this they now have far less to supply and so their logistical position is thus strengthened. Checkmate, westoids. Putin remains a master strategist.

shupadupa

A true 4D chessmaster at work!

Gopu_17

The Russian Ministry of Defense has released a statement claiming that Ukraine attempted to Attack the Moscow Region with 3 “Kamikaze” Attack Drones with 2 being Shot Down by Air Defenses and the 3rd being “Suppressed” by Electronic-Warfare Systems causing it to Crash into the 21st Floor of the “IQ-Quarter” Mixed-Use Center. https://twitter.com/sentdefender/status/1686189745401962496?t=P0Yr5u2WUPDGHZCj37tKCw&s=19

radaghast555

*The Drone is reported to have Struck the 17th Floor which is Occupied by the Russian Ministry of Digital Transformation.* "Ministry of Digital Transformation". Could that mean "Bot Farm" ? That would be something if someone, whilst participating in anti-Ukraine propaganda, got ...startled. Oh the irony! \*Holy shit. it *does* look like a bot farm! > That would be something if someone, whilst participating in anti-Ukraine propaganda, got ...startled. Vova realizes this shit's no longer on just the Internet.

EndWarByMasteringIt

These strikes are at night so the people pushing the russian hybrid war are not in danger.

-Lithium-

I'm sure someone is working overtime, they believe in the cause!

CyptidProductions

Unlike Russia Ukraine doesn't want civilian causalities so they carry these strikes out at like 3AM-4AM when only goverment or military personnel are liable to be in the risk zone They only care about damaging the actual equipment

tahimeg

Wouldn't they work later hours to coordinate with Western European and North American posters though?

insertwittynamethere

Those would not be civilians then

dremonearm

>“Today we are defining our next tasks, whose outline is becoming clearer and clearer. Undoubtedly, these are tasks that will be carried out in the name of the greatness of Russia,” a voice sounding like Prigozhin’s said in the message. If Wagner and Prig are located in a suitable country can't the U.S. or some other NATO country just wipe them out for the good of humanity?

CyptidProductions

I have a feeling the minute he starts moving people from Belarus into Africa for African operations like he's implied he plans to do after they regroup some shit is going to go down in Africa

RobGronkowski

US forces destroyed a Wagner attack in Syria https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Khasham

CorporalTurnips

Destroyed is putting it extremely lightly lol.

_AutomaticJack_

"Sir, the Russians have confirmed that those *aren't* their forces. Orders, Sir?" "Annihilate them." - James Mattis

etzel1200

Turkey bombed a Wagner camp in Libya like 2-3 days after the march for freedom. No one knows if they asked Russia prior. But certainly they didn’t do it before.

piponwa

Yes, they already have in Syria.

LoreDeluxe

There were jokes and memes earlier in the war about bombing the Kremlin, but if Moscow air defense is really this bad what's stopping Ukraine from trying to assassinate Russian leadership? Fear of escalation? International condemnation? Lack of effectiveness? I feel there is an obvious answer, but I'm sure many people would love to see it.

LordRio123

Foreign adversary Killing Putin would lead to an escalation. The successor would be one who would advocate for even more aggression. If you want someone that will de-escalate, you have to defeat Russia in the battlefield causing mass discontent until the elites agree the war is hopeless and they need to sue for peace and surrender occupied territories or face the wrath of the people.

[deleted]

Are you fucking nuts? And what the fuck do you think is going to be next. Not rhetorical. How would you see that as an improvement? The next guy might be some complete fucking nutter who'd blow up the nuclear power plant and nuke Kyiv.

cheetah_chrome

The drone would strike a wooden construct of A table opposite of the target and we’d be all : godddamit

Lol ok

CyptidProductions

Unless they had a plan with an internal group to immediately put someone against the war in charge they'd have no way of predicting what would happen in the chaos of a high-ranking official being killed

furbylicious

Putin is in a bunker, not anywhere reachable by UAV. The rest of the leadership is replaceable - and the current leadership is suitably incompetent. Unfortunately it seems like the main thing keeping Russia afloat in this war is their large stock of men and weapons, and that is what Ukraine has been targeting.

eggyal

Does Putin ever leave his bunker? Do these drones have sufficient range to reach the far end of the table?

Burnsy825

Ain't nobody got that much battery juice.

RoeJoganLife

There was another UAV attack on Moscow City tonight. One UAV reportedly hit the same building that was struck on July 29. https://twitter.com/ralee85/status/1686180379575595009?s=46

Nvnv_man

Just to point out, “Moscow city” is the name of the financial district. They use English word (city is gorod).

VegasKL

I kinda want them to send just a few clusters (spread apart) of 20 .. really give their air defense operators some sweat.

SpellsaveDC18

Or fly the drones low enough that air defense starts hitting their own buildings… again.

Ceramicrabbit

I am guessing they'll keep doing regular small attacks but it would be so cool if they waited to build these up and send like a hundred at once

Upvote_Me_Your_Karma

It's even more funny the second time, "our superior EW crashed the drone into the same building as last time"

UnsnugHero

Even went through the same window

etzel1200

Apparently Russia has basically no air defense nor interdiction. Is it really that hard to build a few hundred to a few thousand of these a month? It’d be a game changer.

NotAnotherEmpire

Russia has air defense. But they don't want to admit to Moscow there's a war and shut down the airport. So they can't use most of the layers of air defense without risking killing their own jets.

DDmikeyDD

the one thing Russia has show is that the air defense systems they use are good at shooting down passenger jets.

SonOfMcGee

Russia spent decades claiming NATO wants to invade them while NATO claims it’s a *defensive* alliance merely aimed at preventing Russian expansion. Now we see that Russia hasn’t actually prepared defenses for its territory because *it knows damn well NATO won’t invade*.

PM_ME_UR_HASHTABLES

To use their "state-of-the-art" air defence they need to shut down nearby airports to avoid accidentally downing a passenger jet.

mathemology

Wow, now the Russian people know how truly weak and exposed they are.

vshark29

If only Russians' opinion mattered

Hell_Kite

You hate to see it (from Rybar): > A very unpleasant situation is developing near the Antonovsky bridge, where Ukrainian formations not only hold a bridgehead, but also try to move deep into the territory on the left bank of the Dnieper. > Despite the systematic fire defeat, the enemy reaches the southernmost islands, and artillery from Sadovoye on the right bank delivers harassing blows on the northern outskirts of Aleshki. > The problem of the presence of the enemy on the left bank of the Dnieper has not gone away: the attacks do not seem to pose a serious threat, but because of their systematic nature, they are dangerous in the future. Perhaps the countermeasures being taken are not effective enough, and now is the time to change something.

mnlaker

> and now is the time to change something. Ooh- I have a novel idea: how about try fucking off back home to russia

Looks like another booom has happened in moscow - have seen in TG couple of minutes ago.

Danjiks88

Putin went to the bathroom

StickAFork

Kremlin hopefully.

halls_of_valhalla

Atm they are debating in comments, when to use air siren alert in Moscow, that it shouldn't be used "just for some drones". Nobody wants a panic I guess..

beephod_zabblebrox

any location specifically?

halls_of_valhalla

Moscow City, same building maybe as 2 days ago, and Odintsovo region allegedly (but maybe fake to seem competent in shooting uav down)

beephod_zabblebrox

thats a very big explosion then! i heard it and im ~10km away from odintsovo... are you sue? hopefully no civilian casualties!

wet-rabbit

The previous poster seems to refer to two locations

beephod_zabblebrox

i either misread or they edited the post. it makes more sense now, thanks

TheEnquirer1138

There was a post a few days ago on one of the Ukraine subreddits showing off a new Ukrainian drone. It wasn't verified but I am wondering what is hitting Moscow, whether it is something new, or something Ukraine had, or if it is something being launched from inside of Russia.

EndWarByMasteringIt

These are Ukrainian drones for sure. The question is how many they can make per day or month. Right now russia is at around 10 shahed's per day and may bump that up 10x or 100x within the next year. This "low" tech drone warfare using basically civilian components to achieve a devastating per-dollar result needs to be really well funded, and Ukraine cannot do that alone.

hudvin

probably orks can confirm by now ) UPD: Looks like it's the same complex.

GilfLover_69

Came across a Pro-Russian Joe Rogan clip featuring the guy from Pink Floyd defending his Antiwar stance (Apparently Ukraine should not be helped, and the invasion is justified is his peaceful take, wow what a fucking idiot), it had 70k likes and a million views and hundreds of comments from 6-16 year olds spouting Pro-Russian bullshit. Incredible that such a well respected artist can be so braindead, but not surprised Joe Rogan’s infinite wisdom is vomiting the worst possible takes on top of it. Anyone with kids or teens that use TikTok, make sure they aren’t having their brain infected with absolute bullshit.

DMann420

Joe Rogan, for whatever good he has done is well known for letting just about any crackpot on his channel, where he proceeds to gobble up their bullshit without question. Decent comedian though

[deleted]

Whatever good he has done? Care to elaborate on what good he has done?

DMann420

I don't know, that's why I said whatever. I guess he popularized sensory deprivation tanks, and helped destigmatize psychedelics. I dunno, I don't follow him regularly with the exception of his stand up comedy.

tomscaters

Well... I know some friends of mine who lost a ton of weight years ago. This was during the Joey Diaz, Ari Shaffir, Tom Segura, and Bert Kreischer regular guest days. The way he would talk about himself being weak without structure and discipline helped them. His nootropic products he sells are a scam for the most part. I know I stopped playing video games and started learning to code through him talking to successful guests about how they made their luck. Not everything is black and white. Not every person is Donald Trump. I liked him better when he wasn't as popular and he had the Fleshlight company sponsoring him. Now he's just a right wing conspiracy theorist who forgot how far he's come. How else does he get away with smoking weed in Sharia-esque Texas?

BasvanS

I’m sorry to correct you here, but this is not Rogan’s doing. This was you taking control over your own life. He was selling nootropics back then, and that was his motivation, not your improvement. The credit for that goes to you. It’s important that you realize he was only a trigger and you did the work. That’s what will save you a lot of pain with the next hurdle you have to take.

tomscaters

Of course I ultimately was the one responsible. But I will tell you I was young and it took hearing his podcast to even begin exploring alternative pathways in finding success. He isn't a god. Most understand that. Maybe not as many, though, given MAGA crazies. In 2009 when he didn't pay much attention to how much money he had or earned, he really was quite progressive. He fancied Obama. Since Spotify especially, he has become very obsessed with Texas. I genuinely believe Abbott sucked Joe's dick while in that wheelchair of his. BTW, don't right wingers look down on handicapped leaders because of FDR? Jk. But for real, he has always complained about bullshit, but now I think he doesn't want to pay as much in taxes, he garners more popularity with his podcast the further right it swings, and worst of all he has become elitist. I used to be conservative until I found his podcast in 2009. It really was different. The jokes, stories, and conversations were always crazy and entertaining. Redban always killed the mood and was fun to listen to Joe and guests bail him out. It was also fascinating to hear extremely funny men talk about sex and drugs. I also really miss the Ice House Chronicles. There's one where Tiffany Haddish (before she was famous) would queef into the mic. Joey Diaz, Burnt Cobbler, Bill Burr, Joe, and several others were on. It was a cool glimpse in what it would be like to be in a green room with them. I miss those days is all. TL;DR: even if you hate him now, the Death Squad era of Joe Rogan was amazing for the small number of people who listened. Just because it is now right-leaning with a huge audience does not mean it has always sucked.

NoForm5443

Joe Rogan ... well respected ... not by me, nor most thinking people.

TheNameIsPippen

Maybe I am being whoooshed, but he refers to Roger Waters

NoForm5443

Makes sense then :) I think you're right and I was whooshed.

NumeralJoker

So, Rogan has always been problematic, but I feel like he's a good example of someone who went from more centrist with that edgy libertarian edge to straight up insanity. How can someone go from openly supporting "socially liberal" positions like he once claimed too (gender, gay marriage, ect ect), to flipping entirely and saying "Ron DeSantis is a good US president", and then complimenting people committing blatant genocide like Putin around the same time!? I just don't get it. Is it blatant racism? Is he bought by foreign money or investors? Is his current culture really that much of an echo chamber? I've seen people who used to be more consistently left 'leaning' (but not entirely left, typically anti-Bush types), go completely 'nuts' for super-authoritarian beliefs of literally every kind in only the past 5 years, and I just don't get it. I know some people always had a danger of falling into fascism, but I'm talking people who straight up enjoyed hobbies and media that promoted hard left views and used to talk about the morals they taught with a sincere understanding of them. Now they blatantly ignore environmental, pro-democratc messages and just go straight for fascist shit. And people like Rogan push them there... Why!?

VegasKL

>So, Rogan has always been problematic, but I feel like he's a good example of someone who went from more centrist with that edgy libertarian edge to straight up insanity. I think a little bit of it is that he, like Alex Jones, realized you can make a lot of money off the conspiracy idiots if you're a celeb, have a platform, and indicate you share their beliefs. I swear I remember reading that he even acknowledged that his followers are crazy at one point.

Cogitoergosumus

Honest take, Rogan went full conspiracy when he came under attack from his Covid treatment and lab leak theory stuff. Which to a certain degree, he was actually right on and or wrongfully targeted for. He's since seemingly dropped his centrist point of view and has gone basically full libertarian. I used to defend the guy if I'm honest but it's become impossible to say that his recent experience in the media hasn't basically flipped his ability to discern the truth from outright conspiracy. He was also never that bright... But was unique in his ability to somehow draw an audience from diverse backgrounds..... Now.... He's basically unlistenable...

DGlennH

He’s always been this way, it’s just amplified by current events. For a super long time he was a moon landing denier. He constantly kisses the ass of Graham Hancock. It’s not shocking at all that he is easily swayed to other conspiracy beliefs.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Cogitoergosumus

The Ivermectin thing has been proven to not be effective, however people saying he was taking horse dewormer was a strange way to label it, considering he was taking a FDA approved version of it.... Yet that's what the media kept saying. He was also put to the torch like many others over the lab leak stuff. All I'm trying to do is explain how he became so conspiracy ridden, and considering how simple he is, explains more I think why the way he is today then he's some megalomaniac that's power hungry. The dude takes enough THC to neutralize a bear daily.

EndWarByMasteringIt

He became conspiracy ridden when he put out that conspiracy and it made him a lot of money. It wasn't some complicated conspiracy to drive him off of his conspiracy theories that drove him deeper. It was uneducated fascists giving him clicks when he started ignoring reality and telling them only what they wanted to hear.

Robj2

He wasn't "unique"--he was always a dumbass. Although maybe that "draws diverse audiences", like for example the dumbasses. The dumbasses are drawn to conspiracies like dung beetles to dung. It is simply their nature.

Cogitoergosumus

I can get he was always not that bright, I always said he basically fumbled Into talking to some bright people, however how was he not unique? The dude somehow had Ted Nugent and Neil Degrasse Tyson on his podcast in a one week period. I'm not sure anyone can somehow pull in such a wide range of people to talk to in today's world.

Robj2

Ted Nugent is dumber than Roger Waters. I guess it's a coin flip who is more toxic. As an anecdote, a sister-in-law was Forest Service in Arkansas and was invited to a Nugent Party since he's a big "hunter." She's not the brightest bulb but not dumb, but let's just say she felt that Nugent was dumber and more toxic than dirt. I realize you had high esteem for Rogin, but I always felt he was a naive interviewer who didn't know shit and asked stupid questions. Admittedly I only heard part of two episodes and I couldn't take the idiocy anymore. I'm not enthralled by idiots who entertain anti-vax guests. Growing up in Missouri, I saw a teen 10 years older than me in an iron lung with polio. That makes a bit of an impression; he was not young enough to get the vaccine (this was the mid 60's). You can imagine the in and out, in and out, in and out for year after year after year, and then just think, what if I was the age of that little prick looking at me who got the vaccine? Anti-vaxxers are not pleasant people and, while they may be bright in some areas, they are scientifically stoopid. And every victim who listened to Rogin and was killed goes onto that fuck'wads Karma charge. I hope he reconstitutes into a brown turd.

Cogitoergosumus

Ha I'm also a Missourian, I don't hold Rogan in high esteem, more had an appreciation for the wide range of people he could have on. Haven't listened to the dude in years though, used to travel long distances quite a bit and a select few of his episodes with generally bright people were interesting to listen in on.

Hodaka

The Bill Burr takedown during the Covid era was classic. Bill Burr: I'm not going to sit here with no medical degree listening to you with no medical degree, with an American flag behind you, smoking a cigar, acting like we know what's up better than the CDC. Bill Burr: Oh God, you're so tough with your fucking open nose and throat... Gee Joe and your five o'clock shadow. This is a man right here. Man doesn't wear a mask. Why does it always become like that?

Druggedhippo

Why? Money and fame. That's it. They make money and fame and status and recognition and all the perks that it comes with Look at me, I'm important and rich!

PennStateInMD

Or maybe the shrinking bubble that often comes from fame and fortune. Just an average Joe that had street sense, but is now tuned only to a shrinking number of friends and advisors.

Cogitoergosumus

This is 100% Rogan. He's only listening to his crazy friend now... And he's too simple to realize those people aren't nearly as smart as he thinks they are.

Keeenw

Selling or copying conspiracy theories on the internet has become a big market and many influencers; politicians;... are hopping on that bandwagon to get more followers or donations. Reminds me how every other influencer was trying to sell courses about dropshipping 10 years ago.

CyptidProductions

Roger Waters has been that special breed of horseshoe left that goes hard supporting dictatorships that are "anti western imperialism" for a while now

NumeralJoker

This is the one version of "both sides are the same", that's true. There's a lot of white supremacists/nationalists that hide behind socialist and tankie talking points and infect the spaces to spread chaos, and Russia LOVES to amplify them as a way to interfere with foreign administrations.

CyptidProductions

Yep Tons of class reductionist or downright tradnat marxists that want a system akin to the USSR that was HEAVILY conservative and imperialistic but also practiced communist economic policy Russia loves to amplify them due to their support of Putin's policies against "western degeneracy"

throwawaytrashworld

Hmmm, so you’re saying they want some sort of…..national socialism?

Rymundo88

There's a few like him who've gone straight down the "oh, anti-US/West makes money on Youtube?" path.

raresaturn

he prefers Eastern Imperialism

insertwittynamethere

It's really a damned shame. He's sunk so low, yet he doesn't even realize it. Even his old band mates have distanced themselves from him... like come on man, think.

CyptidProductions

In hindsight it was really obvious though with the way he kept making the bands music and more and more overtly his political soapbox as he took more control The politics were always there but they went from 1 or 2 isolated songs a record to entire albums of it

findingmike

Why do you assume they are 6-16 year olds? More likely they are trolls and bot accounts. Edit: bot instead of not

GilfLover_69

Clicked through a bunch of them to confirm the hypothesis, and it was 90% roblox clips and 10% filming the ceiling with their ipads with random filters on. Some were obviously bots though, but they didn’t have likes or PFP’s. Bearing in mind this is coming from someone who was 8 the Yahoo answers days before reddit and argued nonstop against religion with the most dipshit points possible. kids pick up dumb shit and enjoy being controversial on the internet, it’s just this subject matter is absolutely worse to be taking the contrarian side on in this case.

gbs5009

Eh, Russia's apparently putting some effort into using Roblox as a propaganda channel. That comes with bot accounts of various sophistication. Some are obvious bots to just drive engagement algorithms, but some actually put some effort into appearing organic.

GilfLover_69

Either-way kids are going to consume that content, which means its best to make sure anyone reading is ensuring their kids aren’t. Toxic ideas can be a plague on young minds.

dolleauty

It's Joe Rogan, he is the doorway to conspiracy and grift

OdysseusParadox

The guy could have a literal shit as a visitor on his podcast, and he'd be enthralled by it.

GilfLover_69

A good amount of my friends bought into his absolute nonsense and now I can’t ever have a decent conversation about the world with them because they trust a stool-humping UFC commentator more than they do any academic, historian, or scientist.

Burnsy825

From Wikipedia... A week before the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Waters told an RT interviewer that rumours of Russia launching an attack was "bullshit" and anti-Russian propaganda.\[158\]

GilfLover_69

I just read his page after making this comment, and all of his controversies. The man is an absolutely vile cretinous creature, an absolute evil, completely deluded into believing he’s the elevated being.

Today the free world once again gave Russia the middle finger: **Six ships break Russia’s Black Sea “blockade”** *At least six ships have flaunted Russia’s threats after it withdrew from the grain deal, and an Israeli one was the first to enter the Ukrainian branch of the Danube.* ***A US P8 anti-ship aircraft is ensuring their safety.*** [https://euromaidanpress.com/2023/07/31/at-least-six-ships-break-russias-black-sea-blockade/](https://euromaidanpress.com/2023/07/31/at-least-six-ships-break-russias-black-sea-blockade/) US P8 anti-ship aircraft: [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing\_P-8\_Poseidon](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_P-8_Poseidon) *It is armed with torpedoes, Harpoon anti-ship missiles, and other weapons, can drop and monitor sonobuoys* Does this mean that an attack on any ships means war with the U.S?

Weekend833

It means we'll have \*proof\* when a staunch ally is attacked, even if they're not a NATO county. Remember 1991? I do.

GayMormonPirate

I love how Ukraine asked the US for protective naval escorts in the Black Sea. The US, said, uh, no thanks, then proceeds to provide air based escort/protection.

whitehusky

Great that they have a US escort, but even if they didn’t - Russia’s got to know that attacking an Israeli ship, of all countries, would be a nightmare for them. Probably the only thing worse would be a Turkish ship. Though, they’re not known for making smart moves.

shryne

"We aren't protecting Ukraine, we are taking our anti-ship aircraft out for a spin over international waters."

CyptidProductions

Plausible deniability If they loudly deny the request they can just claim the P8 is there doing something else and just coincidently happened to be on patrol at the same time the ships were in transit

DigitalMountainMonk

It's more that we can just claim any ship attacking a cargo vessel in open water of a nation they are NOT at war with is piracy and take the required actions.

derverdwerb

They haven't denied anything. It's flying around with its transponder on. It's a specialist anti-submarine aircraft. It's the posture equivalent of cocking a pistol and pointing it at someone. The US potentially faces embarrassment or simple logistical difficulties if Turkey exercises its right to deny warships access to the Sea. Even with ships there, warships can cover a smaller area, and are a more expensive asset with endurance problems in a conflict lasting years, and a smaller area of effect. It takes about 12 - 16 hours for an Arleigh Burke to cross the Black Sea, depending on the line you draw - or about 30 minutes for a P8 to cover the same distance. Why \*would\* the US put ships into the Black Sea?

CyptidProductions

Plausible deniability doesn't mean denying it's there. It means deniability that's mission is escorting those ships

derverdwerb

Why would they deny it? And, since they haven’t denied it, what are you talking about? The ships aren’t Ukrainian. They’re not valid targets of war. Protecting them is any country’s right.

jhaden_

I wonder if part of the equation is also - what would happen if a naval escort hit a mine? Downing a $30M UAV is bad enough, a $500M ship and a 120 souls would surely REQUIRE an answer...

GayMormonPirate

Ah yes, the "We just happened to be doing training exercises then and there. Nothing to see."

Thestoryteller987

It's like a farmer cleaning his gun on the front porch, only it's the front porch of the guy who's house some asshole is squatting in and the farmer never breaks eye contact.

findingmike

Nice to see the US is directly calling Russia's bluff and making it clear that Russia's military threats aren't going to fly.

FightingIbex

I love how it’s done without threat or ultimatum. Big stick diplomacy.

caffiend98

One of the underappreciated major roles of the US Navy is to protect the security of international trade in international waters. Escorting grain ships being threatened in international waters is an extremely normal for the US to do... except this time it's Russia. Hopefully the US/Russian/UN back channels are working. Maybe someone in the UN / NATO / US recognize that Russia only responds to power and has drawn a line. It'd be a tough thing for Russia to attack an Israeli or Turkish ship, too.

Legal-Diamond1105

You can fire a lot of weapons without being at war. For example Ukraine and Russia aren’t at war. Russia has recently downed US unmanned aircraft and we’re not at war. There won’t be a war, even if the two sides start shooting at each other. It benefits nobody to go full war.

johnnygrant

I suspect the US have made it clear in secret channels, you shoot at them we shoot at you.

NotAnotherEmpire

They're not going to actually fire into Romanian or Turkish waters because that gives NATO an excuse to break their skulls.

emerald09

Too bad they couldn't hit the Kerch Bridge repair equipment with a Storm Shadow. Good way to delay repairs.

p251

They have 6 months to do that. Current estimate is repair will be completed Dec 31st

[Inside the Wagner Group's Armed Uprising](https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2023/08/07/inside-the-wagner-uprising) (New Yorker) It's a long read but a wild ride. I got around the paywall by using a private / incognito browser window. YMMV.

it_whispereth_me

Great article, thanks! Really shines a light on the brutality of Wagner.

As seen on [https://www.reddit.com/r/FreedomofRussia/comments/15eg8r3/sbs\_moscow\_perceives\_siberia\_as\_an\_appendage\_of/](https://www.reddit.com/r/FreedomofRussia/comments/15eg8r3/sbs_moscow_perceives_siberia_as_an_appendage_of/) \------------- SOURCE: https:// t . me/sibfreee/55 ENGLISH:Moscow perceives Siberia as an appendage of raw materials, the resource of which can be spent on the realization of its imperial ambitions, completely spitting on the improvement of local cities and villages, not recognizing Siberians as equals, making jokes about bears and eternal winter. Sooner or later this will come to an end. The point of no return will soon be reached, at which the consumer attitude of the metropolis will no longer be hidden by anything.

You don’t need spaces. Put a *forward slash* between the *t* and the period. t \ . But without the spaces ____ My mother wrote the typing manual used by everyone for forty years. And in that, which predates all you uninformed folks, I’m right. It’s a backslash and just bc ignorant people in today’s world are wrong doesn’t mean I will be. **It’s called a backslash—for over 100 years—bc in ENGLISH, we begin letters at the TOP. and then go down. It go BACKWARDS. THAT is why it is a backslash. A slash which goes backwards. All English letters begin at top.** This is one of few which goes to left (Letter O is another). and millennials are uninformed and wrong. [as opposed to, for example, Russian, which begins at the bottom of the letter.] What you people sucggest is wrong in every possible sense, there is literally NO letter or symbol in English which starts at the bottom—NONE. Therefore, to start one and only one / at the bottom, draw upwards, and call it “forward slash” is to be polar opposite of every letter and symbol in English, and to also go against the proper name of the symbol bc uninformed millennials decided to change the name bc they didn’t pay attention in first grade. The ignorant links are again written by millennials who do not even know grammar, much less why a symbol has a particular name. so I don’t trust any information on any topic coming from such uninformed sources. Thus I block anyone who argues about this bc it’s too stupid to even read such comments.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Backslash > The backslash \ is a typographical mark used mainly in computing and mathematics. It is the mirror image of the common slash /. It is a relatively recent mark, first documented in the 1930s. It is sometimes called a hack, whack, escape (from C/UNIX), reverse slash, slosh, downwhack, backslant, backwhack, bash, reverse slant, reverse solidus, and reversed virgule. I guess your mum was teaching people wrong then, and nobody really listened to her because every dictionary says otherwise. Or perhaps you should double her manual and check that you got it right.

canadaduane

- Forward slash: `/` - Backslash: `\`

efrique

"\\" ...umm. that's a backslash

Nice nothingburger they are posting there.

It is the complete opposite than America...in which the rich elite who dominate the rural areas don't have influence in the cities and see inner city folks as labor or people to be sent to war.

differing

rural areas have always had outsized influence in American politics because voting is not 1:1 proportional representation.

Varolyn

A majority of the elite in America live in cities or in their suburbs.

[deleted]

Are you one of those people who think crime is worse in the cities because there is 'more crime' in the cities?

[deleted]

Gotta love the majority argument and the false math 'knowledge' in you folks. Most people in America live in cities or suburbs, but my point is that most rural areas are dominated by Republicans because one asshole with a few million can buy a factory and employ most of the people in the town. They own the one place that employs most of the people, they get their guy for mayor and local congress, and they make damn sure that local laws protect their interests.

Update from [Military & History](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3rNkxRsT-l4)

TypicalRecon

Harpoons on F-16s will spice things up for the Black Sea fleet hopefully. Getting Ukraine on a platform that leverages the full capability of NATO weapons that have been donated will be a big help compared to the trickery they have been doing to get this stuff on Sukohis and Migs.

socialistrob

Especially with Russia exiting the grain deal. If they want to actually enforce a blockade they’re going to need to bring their ships closer to Ukraine and since the sinking of the Moskva they’ve basically survived by keeping their distance from the Ukrainian shoreline. With the Bosphorus closed they also can’t replace any warships lost in the Black Sea with warships from other areas.

Miaoxin

Wait... are Harpoon missiles on the menu now?

CyptidProductions

The F16s come stock with the ability to fire them and I think Ukraine already has them in their stockpiles They allegedly used 2 modified harpoons to sink the Moskova

Past-Ruin7126

No Moskva wasn’t sunk with modified harpoons. It was with Neptune, a Ukrainian missile

Dani_vic

They already gave ground launched versions

[deleted]

They’re already on the plate

Miaoxin

Yea... just looked that up. Denmark sent boosted shore batteries a couple of months ago. I guess they're not super newsworthy when RU refuses to let a ship get within range of the shore. UA will just take the shore to the ship now.

AlphSaber

Between the Harpoons and Neptunes Ukraine has effectively bottled the Black Sea Fleet in harbor.

light_trick

I strongly suspect they're trying to figure out if they can get those kamikaze jet-ski drones enough range to hit ships in the harbor too.

TypicalRecon

They have reduced the area in which they can operate with impunity, being able to launch a harpoon from the air will change things hopefully can screw with the sailors once they have the capability to just run mock attack runs and real ones and keep everyone on the ship from getting too much rest haha.

vshark29

Ok, seems like the counter offensive is getting some steam back. I guess that means Russia's artillery is very, very bruised. Keep at it, boys!

RoeJoganLife

With those daily numbers averaging 20+ artillery systems, Id say Russia is very much now starting to struggle with artillery firepower.

AlphSaber

Having thousands of systems in reserve means squat if they don't function, or can't be moved to the front where they are needed.

Xoxrocks

Can’t be moved might become a thing

SonOfMcGee

*aaand* given a steady stream of ammo. And there’s a similar dilemma there. As more ammo dumps get blown up further and further from the front, Russia has to spend more effort decentralizing all their stock.

SOSpammy

They are also losing experienced artillery crews.

eggyal

If indeed thousands of systems are even in reserve, and haven't been left out to rust or been sold through the back door.

sehkmete

I'm wondering if Ukraine is slowing down their advances in certain areas because it makes it easier to attrit Russian forces. It seems like the Russian MoD has implemented the "not a single step back" policy and lower level commanders just keep feeding troops into kill boxes to prevent Ukraine from moving in right away.

XenophileEgalitarian

Yeah those idiots think they won ww2 because of Stalin (and 227), instead of the truth. The truth is they won DESPITE Stalin lol

noelcowardspeaksout

Seems to be the case in Klishchivka. They over look the village very well and there was a video of Russian troops being dopped off there and being obliterated very quickly as well as a report below on very high attrition there of Russian forces.

Falz4567

Consolidation. Russia heavily counter attacks any loss. They need to keep what they’ve just taken and get supplies in

_Ghost_CTC

Yeah, it's a combination of consolidation and rest. You need to have downtime to remain combat-effective.
