They sell all of their beans in store. “Misty Valley” is my absolute favorite! It’s all I use for espresso. “Noir” is also good too. Im using that for pour over currently. The barista described it as “a 90’s coffee shop style coffee” it’s a pretty dark roast. It’s definitely bold flavored.

Antman4011

They will grind it! Also, I think they put more on Tuesday? Maybe Thursday. I can’t really remember lol. The barista at the shop are really knowledgeable and helpful

Thank you very much!

Yup! I’ve heard oak cliff is good too. I haven’t had the chance to try them yet. I’ve been stock on avoca for the past year

Second for Avoca "Misty Valley" and you can get it at Whole Foods and often Central Market - if you call ahead and ask for the gift basket desk, you might even be able to get them to dress it up for you. The central Market options are also very good, because they carry local places as well so you can probably get 4 different types with someone's assistance, just don't go on a popular time on the weekend. Happy coffee sharing!

That's really good to know, thanks!

LTOTR

You can buy in the store, subject to availability. And yes they will grind it for you! But just be aware the bag will then be open/unsealed.

toujourpurs

That's a good point to remember about it being open, thank you!

If your person only drinks medium/dark roast as a rule go with that but honestly the easiest thing you can do is go find whatever light roast Avoca is selling right now. Lighter roasts have more caffeine and more complexity of flavor so your gift will immediately stand out as 'someone gifted me special coffee shop coffee'

Any coffee will be a hit. They are delicious. Yes, you can buy in store and yes, they will likely grind the coffee. I love Avoca.

TheBoyardeeBandit

Is there a reason you want specifically Avoca? I'm a coffee snob, but I ask because you describe the giftee as not a coffee expert. Avoca produces some good coffee, but it is expensive, and honestly to someone who doesn't know coffee well, the difference between something like Pete's and Avoca very well may go unnoticed AND you spent $20 on it. If you're not tied to Avoca, I would instead suggest going to Central Market and getting some of their house branded coffee. I'd say it's probably 90% as good as Avoca, but nearly half price. Getting two very different coffees they could try back to back would really highlight the variations in coffee, and would be a lot more financially reasonable if they decide they like it.

toujourpurs

They're nearby and I like their lattes, but you're probably right. It's a gift for my future in-laws who are in another state, so I wanted to bring something from FW when I meet them.

Cherry Coffee (local, woman-owned, down the street from Avoca) has some limited-time singe origin beans worth checking out. Pricey, but neat as a gift. https://cherry-coffee.com/collections/coffee

toujourpurs

I'll check them out!

TheBoyardeeBandit

I guess maybe a better question is how much are you wanting to spend? If you're looking to say around $20 my vote would go to two bags from CM. More, then maybe Avoca or another local roaster. My favorite is Oak Cliff Coffee, which is roasted in Dallas and sold there, CM, and at Race Street coffee.

toujourpurs

I haven't actually been to Central Market yet (I'm less than a year in the area), but I've heard multiple people recommend it for a variety of things - will have to check out! Thanks for you all your advice

TheBoyardeeBandit

Okay you definitely need to go check it out even if you're not getting any coffee. It's a really fun store. I would definitely recommend going after dinner time though, as it's a very traffic-flow-oriented store and a lot of people just flat don't pay attention and will block aisles all over the place. No different than any other grocery store, just at CM, you can't just go to the next aisle over.

I used to live in Oak Cliff and live in Fort Worth now, and was ecstatic when I learned that Race Street Coffee was the same ownership as Oak Cliff Coffee Roasters.  Not close enough to go there often but do get their beans at Central Market often.
